2026 Las Vegas Raiders Offense:
Things were looking up for the Raiders last year. They hired an established coach, spent a first-round pick on a dynamic running back, and signed a top-10 quarterback, according to ESPN’s Mina Kimes. Nothing went according to plan, however. Pete Carroll was fired after one year, Ashton Jeanty was the only running back in the NFL who averaged negative yards before contact last year, and Geno Smith led the NFL in interceptions.

Carroll and Smith are gone, and the Raiders will begin anew with first-time head coach Klint Kubiak and No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza. The reigning Heisman winner has drawn comparisons to a mobile Joe Flacco. Raider fans may have to wait to see him in action, however, as Kubiak has told the media that he does not believe in starting rookie quarterbacks. Kirk Cousins will likely begin the year as the starter, which would have been a positive sign for the Raiders three years ago. Cousins has since regressed because of age and an Achilles tear. It doesn’t seem probable that Cousins will start the entire year, so perhaps Mendoza will take over in the second half of the season.

It would have been foolish for the Raiders to use the top pick on a quarterback and not protect him. They did something similar in the 2025 NFL Draft by selecting Jeanty with no offensive line. The Raiders had to improve their blocking this offseason, and they made a big splash by signing Tyler Linderbaum, one of the best centers in the league. Linderbaum will be a big upgrade in the interior of the Raiders’ previously woeful offensive line. Linderbaum will be sandwiched by third-year Jackson Powers-Johnson and another new offensive lineman, Spencer Burford. Powers-Johnson has been pedestrian thus far in his career. Burford was even worse for the 49ers.

Aside from a lack of talent, one reason why the Raiders’ offensive line was so bad last year was Kolton Miller’s absence. Miller is a fantastic left tackle, but he played just four games last season. His return will be a huge boost to the blocking unit. Right tackle D.J. Glaze is another young lineman who hasn’t lived up to expectations yet.

Miller’s improved health and Linderbaum’s presence will also help Jeanty. As mentioned earlier, Jeanty had a negative yards per contact last year because the offensive line was so terrible. He had to constantly dodge defenders in the backfield, so that will happen far less frequently in 2026.

Jeanty was utilized heavily as a receiver last year following Chip Kelly’s dismissal. That should continue to happen, given the severe lack of talent the Raiders have at wideout. Tre Tucker had some decent games in 2025, but is in no condition to serve as the No. 1 downfield option on any team. Tucker will start across from newly signed Jalen Nailor, who is just a tertiary option at best. Of course, Brock Bowers will be the most productive pass-catcher. The elite tight end didn’t produce as well as he did as a rookie, but should rebound in better conditions.

2026 Las Vegas Raiders Defense:
The Raiders were a part of some major drama this offseason when they tried to trade Maxx Crosby to the Ravens. The deal was initially accepted, but Baltimore backed out at the last second, claiming that Crosby didn’t pass their physical. In a shocking coincidence, Baltimore immediately signed Trey Hendrickson without relinquishing any sort of draft capital.

Crosby still being on the Raiders at least ensures that they will be able to generate quarterback pressure and give their new signal-callers more opportunities to engineer scoring drives. Crosby is a dynamic pass rusher and a monstrous run stopper, though he tends to get banged up often. Crosby was the leader in sacks (10) last year by a wide margin; the runner-up was Malcolm Koonce and his 4.5 sacks. This was an area the Raiders tried to address by signing Kwity Paye. This may not help much, given that Paye logged just four sacks for the Colts in 2025.

The Raiders won’t get a pass rush – or any positive play, for that matter – from their three-man front. The projected starters are Adam Butler at nose tackle and Thomas Booker and Jonah Laulu at end. Butler and Booker are both subpar talents, while Laulu is a woeful player.

The Raiders managed to obtain some upgrades for their defense. Linebacker was the primary position that was bolstered. Two new starters were acquired via free agency: Quay Walker and Nakobe Dean. Neither Walker nor Dean performed well last year, though Dean at least had an excuse because he was coming off an injury. Dean should be better in 2026. Walker, conversely, is a talented player, but has regressed each season as a pro.

Another new addition is Taron Johnson. The former Bills slot cornerback will provide a much-needed boost in the secondary. The rest of the cornerback group, however, is quite poor. The projected starters are Eric Stokes and Darien Porter. Stokes is coming off a surprisingly strong season, but he had performed woefully in Green Bay prior to joining Las Vegas. Porter, conversely, endured a rough rookie year. The Raiders will be hoping that Jermod McCoy can contribute positively soon. McCoy was regarded as the most talented cornerback in the 2026 NFL Draft, but fell to the fourth round because of a dire knee injury.

Rounding out the defense, Las Vegas’ safety situation was mixed last year. Jeremy Chinn was a solid contributor, while Isaiah Pola-Mao was one of the worst starting safeties in the NFL.

2026 Las Vegas Raiders Schedule and Intangibles:
Daniel Carlson was a brilliant kicker for the Raiders, but has been replaced by Matt Gay. He figures to be a downgrade, given that he was just 17-of-23 for both the 49ers and Raiders last season.

A.J. Cole has ranked in the top five of net punting in each of the four seasons prior to 2025. He regressed last year, finishing 22nd in that category.

The Raiders had an easy schedule last year. That’s no longer the case. They get to battle the Dolphins, Jets, Browns, Cardinals, and Titans, but they also have to take on the Bills, Patriots, Rams, Seahawks, 49ers, and the three superior teams in their division.

2026 Las Vegas Raiders Analysis: The first year of Fernando Mendoza’s tenure with the Raiders will come with some growing pains. Mendoza may not even see the field very much, but when he does, there will be some mistakes, especially with an offensive line that hasn’t fully been optimized yet, and a receiver group sorely lacking in talent. However, the future is bright for the Raiders for the first time in a long while.

NFL Draft Team Grade: C- Grade

Goals Entering the 2026 NFL Draft: The Raiders will have a new franchise quarterback in Fernando Mendoza, but they have to make sure that he doesn’t fail because of poor protection or a lack of weapons. The Raiders must surround Mendoza with as much talent as possible to make sure Mendoza has the best chance to succeed in the pros.

2026 NFL Draft Accomplishments: Charlie Campbell said it best on Twitter when he opined that the Raiders’ current regime doesn’t know how to draft. He correctly pointed out that the Raiders constantly reached and neglected Mendoza. This is the opposite of what they needed to do in the 2026 NFL Draft.

The Raiders have an atrocious group of receivers, yet they only addressed the position at No. 195, which could really hurt Mendoza’s development. Only one offensive lineman was acquired prior to Round 7. This was irresponsible drafting.

It wasn’t all bad for the Raiders. Keyron Crawford should be a quality edge rusher, while Jermod McCoy might be a steal. Plus, Mendoza must be factored into the equation. However, this draft, as a whole, was a huge disappointment, and Mendoza should feel very discouraged with what happened after the first round.

NFL Draft Individual Grades:

1. Fernando Mendoza, QB, Indiana –  A Grade

It’s great that the Raiders didn’t listen to Dan Orlovsky and his army of 15 NFL general managers he allegedly spoke to who agreed with him that Ty Simpson was a better prospect than Fernand Mendoza. This was complete nonsense, and the Raiders made the correct choice. One of Charlie Campbell’s sources compared Mendoza to Joe Flacco with mobility, so if that holds up, the Raiders will be very happy with this pick.

38. Treydan Stukes, CB/S, Arizona – MILLEN Grade

It’s only fitting that the Raiders get a Millen grade. What a dumb selection. How do they not realize that they needed to help Fernando Mendoza? It’s fairly obvious, given the huge needs at receiver and the offensive line. Instead, the Raiders selected a 24-year-old defensive back. Nice job!

67. Keyron Crawford, DE, Auburn – B- Grade

I guess Fernando Mendoza will have to do everything himself. Keyron Crawford is a solid pick, unlike the second-round choice. Crawford has high upside and was productive in school. Edge rusher was a need with Maxx Crosby on his way out of Las Vegas soon.

91. Trey Zuhn, C, Texas A&M – C Grade

I can’t hate too much on the Raiders drafting a lineman. However, the Raiders already have a center, and I don’t like him too much at guard. Zuhn is a terrific pass blocker and a great presence in the locker room. He has short arms, however, and he needs to impove his run blocking. I had him going much later.

101. Jermod McCoy, CB, Tennessee – A+ Grade

This is a risk, but every draft pick is a risk. If Jermod McCoy didn’t have a knee problem, he would’ve been a top-10 pick. However, his knee issue is degenerative, so he may never have a good NFL career, but there’s a chance that he’ll get over it and have a great career.

122. Mike Washington, RB, Arkansas – B Grade

There are two sides to this pick. On one hand, I like Mike Washington as a prospect and think he should’ve gone in the third round. On the other hand, the Raiders traded up for a running back, which is one of the two positions they both need.

150. Dalton Johnson, S, Arizona – B Grade

Dalton Johnson is undersized and is an inconsistent tackler, but has great coverage skills. The Raiders need defense, and Johnson fits this range, so this is a fine pick.

175. Hezekiah Masses, CB, California – D Grade

Hezekiah Masses is a lengthy cornerback, but he is frail and commits lots of penalties. The Raiders should be concentrating more on offense instead of drafting seventh-round cornerbacks.

195. Malik Benson, WR, Oregon – A Grade

Malik Benson is a speedy threat whose hands improved over his collegiate career, but happens to be a limited route runner. He could end up being a good weapon for Fernando Mendoza. I like this pick, thanks to the great value; I had Benson in the fourth round.

229. Brandon Cleveland, OT, N.C. State – B Grade

Brandon Cleveland is a stout run defender, but has short arms and lacking athleticism. He was seen as a seventh-round prospect, so this makes sense for the Raiders, who had to continue to add blockers.
