2026 Philadelphia Eagles Offense:
It's astonishing to think that some football analysts deemed the Jalen Hurts selection to be one of the worst draft picks of all time. Hurts, who was once benched in favor of Tua Tagovailoa at Alabama, became the MVP frontrunner during various points of the 2022 and 2023 NFL seasons. Hurts has piloted one of the most explosive offenses in the past couple of years, and he has been the key cog of the unstoppable fourth-down play, which is known as the Tush Push. The play has become so dominant that nearly two-thirds of the NFL wanted to ban it, but there weren't enough votes last offseason to do so.
Hurts was not in MVP conversation in 2025 because he had a down passing year. He'll now be without his No. 1 target, A.J. Brown, but this could be a case of addition by subtraction because the two didn't get along very well. Brown even dogged it in the playoff loss to the 49ers with three horrible drops. DeVonta Smith will take over as the new main threat, and he should thrive in that role. Smith posted some excellent numbers when Brown was hurt during the 2023 season, so he's proven that he's capable of being the top threat. The Eagles signed some receivers to go with him - Dontayvion Wicks, Marquise Brown, Elijah Moore - but they'll be counting on Makai Lemon the most. The first-round pick is a talented player, but comes with some severe personality issues that nearly sunk his draft stock. If those persist, he will not be in the NFL for very long.
The Eagles also used their second-round pick on an offensive player, choosing Eli Stowers. The young tight end set combine records with his elite athletic traits, and he'll be involved early with Dallas Goedert in two-tight end sets. Goedert has been highly productive when either Brown or Smith have been hurt, so he should have a big year, which could be his last in Philadelphia.
With Brown gone, the Eagles may also use Saquon Barkley more as a receiver out of the backfield. Barkley is coming off a down year in the wake of his 2,000-yard campaign in 2024. Barkley is still young, so he could easily rebound with another stellar season, especially if the offensive line holds up well.
The offensive line was a big issue last year. This was a surprise because Philadelphia arguably had the best blocking unit in the NFL in 2024, but that was far from the case this past season. Injuries played a role, as Lane Johnson missed eight games, including the home playoff loss to the 49ers. Landon Dickerson missed just two contests, but it was clear that he was not 100 percent. And then there was center Cam Jurgens, who was out for three games, but did not play well last year.
There are some bright spots on the offensive line, however. If Johnson and Dickerson can remain healthy, they'll both perform at high levels, particularly the former, who is routinely ranked as the best right tackle in the NFL. Jordan Mailata, meanwhile, is one of the better blind-side protectors in the NFL. Right guard Tyler Steen was also a pleasant surprise as a first-year starter.
2026 Philadelphia Eagles Defense:
The Eagles maintained a great offense when they won the Super Bowl in 2024, but their defense was also stellar. Philadelphia was impenetrable at times, completely clamping down on the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. They still maintained a great defensive unit this past season, but they allowed about 30 more yards per game compared to 2024.
The pass rush wasn't as dominant this time. The Eagles still put plenty of pressure on opposing quarterbacks, but they were a bit weaker in that regard last year. Part of the reason was that the Eagles lost some key depth like Milton Williams and Josh Sweat, who signed with the Patriots and Cardinals, respectively, prior to 2025. Philadelphia took notice of this and traded for Jonathan Greenard in exchange for a pair of third-round picks. Greenard is a dynamic edge-rushing threat, and he'll form a dangerous trio of edge rushers with Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt. Smith was a bit of a disappointment last year, but Hunt managed to lead the team in sacks with 6.5.
Philadelphia will continue to be strongest on the defensive line. The three-man group will be comprised of Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and Moro Ojomo. Carter and Davis are two of the better defensive linemen in the NFL, though Carter didn't play up to his standards last year. Ojomo, conversely, enjoyed a solid first year as a starter.
If the Eagles can generate more quarterback pressure from Greenard and an improved Carter, it would obviously help a secondary that had some problems last season. They had no issues with Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean last year, as the duo served as one of the better cornerback tandems in the NFL. However, there was a problem opposite Mitchell. Adoree Jackson was used there, but he was atrocious at times. Tariq Woolen might be better by default, but he was benched last year in Seattle.
While the Eagles added Woolen to their secondary, they lost Reed Blankenship. With the very skilled Blankenship gone, the Eagles will have to go with the duo of Andrew Mukuba and Marcus Epps at safety. Mukuba had a fine, but not great rookie year as a second-round selection. Epps, conversely, is a 30-year-old journeyman who struggled for the most part in 2026.
Blankenship was one of two defenders the Eagles lost in the middle of their defense this offseason. The other was Nakobe Dean, who joined the Raiders. The talented linebacker was expendable, however, because Philadelphia has two dynamic players at the position. Zack Baun has developed into one of the better off-ball linebackers in the NFL. Jihaad Campbell, meanwhile, is a first-round pick from the 2025 NFL Draft. Campbell had a terrific rookie campaign in all facets, and he should continue to get better.
2026 Philadelphia Eagles Schedule and Intangibles:
Jake Elliott made a name for himself when he drilled a 61-yard, game-winning kick against the Giants in 2017. He has regressed of late, however. He was just 20-of-27 in 2025.
Braden Mann was 10th in net punting average in 2024 and 12th in that category in 2025.
The Eagles have some tough games against the Bears, Rams, Jaguars, Seahawks, Texans, and 49ers. There are some easy games as well versus the Titans, Steelers, Cardinals, and Colts.

2026 Philadelphia Eagles Analysis: The Eagles were the pick to win the Super Bowl on this Web site two years ago. That was not the case last season, but the Eagles could rebound if their offensive line improves. They have the offensive playmakers and the defense to contend, but the blocking was so much worse in 2025, and yet Philadelphia still won the division. The Eagles will be one of the favorites in the NFC if their offensive line woes are resolved.

NFL Draft Team Grade: C Grade
Goals Entering the 2026 NFL Draft: The Eagles need to concentrate on the offensive line and receiver corps. Lane Johnson is frequently injured and will retire soon, while A.J. Brown will likely be moved to the Patriots after June 1. Philadelphia also has a need at guard, and it wouldn't hurt if the team found an eventual replacement for Dallas Goedert.
2026 NFL Draft Accomplishments: Philadelphia drafted some talented players, but they may not all pan out like the team hopes. The primary example of this is Makai Lemon. If Lemon didn't have character concerns, he may have flirted with the top 10, but he had the worst combine interviews imaginable. If he behaves that way in the locker room, he's not going to be on an NFL roster for very long, no matter how good he is. There is precedent for this with Antonio Brown in his Raider and Buccaneer days, and I'd say Lemon would actually be worse for the locker room than Brown was if his behavior persists.
Another example is Micah Morris. This is less serious because Morris was just a sixth-round pick, but he's another talented player who has issues. His problems are a lack of work ethic and poor conditioning. He could bust because of those reasons. Meanwhile, the Eagles wasted a fifth-round pick on Cole Payton, who doesn't have much starting experience and can't read defenses.
It all sounds negative for the Eagles, but they made some positive draft picks as well. Eli Stowers figures to be a great threat over the middle of the field, while Markell Bell is talented enough to potentially replace Lane Johnson down the road despite being a third-round pick. He's raw, but can be developed. And speaking of raw, seventh-round defensive tackle Uar Bernard ran a 4.63 at 306 pounds. I'm sure he'll remind Philadelphia fans of a defensive version of Jordan Mailata.
Despite some positives, I can't say I'm a fan of the Eagles' draft. There's high upside to it, but there's a very low floor with the Lemon, Morris, and Payton picks.

NFL Draft Individual Grades:
20. Makai Lemon, WR, USC – C Grade
There are two sides to this pick. On one hand, the Eagles were able to land a dynamic weapon to help them deal with A.J. Brown’s departure. Lemon was good enough to go No. 13, so this value is great. On the other hand, Lemon had some seriously terrible and weird interviews at the combine. I don’t know if he’ll be welcome on an NFL team for the long term, so the Eagles may not even know how he conducted himself. This pick has great upside, but Lemon may not be around very long if he continues this behavior.
54. Eli Stowers, TE, Vanderbilt – A Grade
Dallas Goedert doesn’t have much time remaining in Philadelphia, so with A.J. Brown leaving, and Makai Lemon escorting himself out of the pros very soon, the Eagles needed pass-catchers to complement DeVonta Smith in the future. Eli Stowers is incredibly athletic and could have easily been chosen 10 or so picks earlier than this.
68. Markell Bell, OT, Miami – B+ Grade
The Eagles needed a tackle to succeed Lane Johnson. Markell Bell is a bit raw, but he’s made big strides every year at Miami, so he may continue to improve a lot and become a quality right tackle in the pros. This is a solid pick for the Eagles, who traded for Jonathan Greenard. I’ll have that grade posted once the third round concludes.
178. Cole Payton, QB, North Dakota State – C- Grade
Cole Payton needs work reading the field and developing a pocket presence, but he’s athletic and accurate. I can’t say I’m a fan of this pick, as there were better quarterbacks available.
207. Micah Morris, G, Georgia – C+ Grade
Micah Morris has good strength, quickness, and athleticism, but his work ethic and conditioning are poor. The Eagles have taken some major character concerns in this draft, so we’ll have to see if it works out for them.
244. Cole Wisniewski, S, Texas – B Grade
Cole Wisniewski is an instinctive safety, but needs to bulk up. He could be a fine backup and special teamer. I had him going 15 selections earlier, so the value is fine.
251. Uar Bernard, DT, Nigeria – B+ Grade
That’s right. Nigeria. Uar Bernard is one of the best pure athletes in this class. He’s 306 pounds, yet runs a 4.63. It’s unreal. He’s super raw, but could be developed into something special.
252. Keyshan James-Newby, DE/OLB, New Mexico – B+ Grade
Keyshawn James-Newby is undersized, but he’s explosive and has a high motor. I had him going in the sixth round, so the Eagles are getting good value with him, although he’s not nearly as exciting as the Nigerian prospect.
