2011 NFL Mock Re-Draft: Round Four

Last update: Saturday, April 30, 2011.
This is a 2011 NFL Mock Re-Draft of Rounds 4 and 5 for Saturday’s NFL Draft coverage. With all of the trades that will go down, I don’t expect to get many of these right; in fact, I’ll be thrilled if I nail one or two correctly. But it’s still fun to speculate where the top prospects will go on Day 3 of the 2011 NFL Draft.

Follow me @walterfootball for updates.

  1. Carolina Panthers: Davon House, CB, New Mexico State
Assuming Richard Marshall isn’t re-signed, the Panthers will need corner depth behind Chris Gamble and Captain Munnerlyn.

The Panthers have shown interest in Davon House, one of the top players remaining on the board.

    MISSING

  2. Seattle Seahawks: Brandon Burton, CB, Utah
Seattle has to fix its pass defense. Since it didn’t take Jimmy Smith at No. 25, a corner like Brandon Burton will be an option in Round 4.

  3. Buffalo Bills: Sam Acho, DE/OLB, Texas
I had this pick in Round 3 of my Re-Draft, so let’s keep it the same.

The Bills missed out on Von Miller, so they pick up a much-needed outside pass-rusher atop Round 4.

  4. Cincinnati Bengals: Chimdi Chekwa, CB, Ohio State
The Bengals should probably find an insurance policy just in case Johnathan Joseph doesn’t stay in Cincinnati.

  5. Cleveland Browns: James Brewer, OT, Indiana
Anyone who watched Cleveland’s second game against Pittsburgh last year knows that Colt McCoy’s protection needs to improve.

  6. Arizona Cardinals: Chris Carter, DE/OLB, Fresno State
The Cardinals have to find a pass-rusher with an early Day 3 pick. They’re incredibly weak at rush linebacker.

  7. Philadelphia Eagles: Christian Ballard, DE/DT, Iowa
The Eagles may look for a mid-round weapon at defensive tackle for Jim Washburn. Christian Ballard is one of the top players available and fits Jim Washburn’s system. Ballard failed a drug test at the Combine, but Andy Reid will give him a second chance.

  8. Houston Texans: Quinton Carter, S, Oklahoma
Bernard Pollard is great in run support, but he’s a huge liability in coverage. That’s not a good thing if you’re trying to beat Peyton Manning twice a year.

  9. Minnesota Vikings: Edmond Gates, WR, Abilene Christian
Sidney Rice could be a free agent depending on the CBA, so the Vikings will have to bring in a new receiver. Edmond Gates should have been picked on Friday.

  10. Seattle Seahawks: Tandon Doss, WR, Indiana
Tandon Doss is one of the top players available, and the Seahawks have to find a true No. 1 receiver. I’m not sure Doss qualifies, but he’s worth a shot here in Round 4.

  11. Denver Broncos: Kendall Hunter, RB, Oklahoma State
John Fox likes to utilize multiple running backs, and Kendall Hunter is one of the top players available.

  12. Tennessee Titans: Clint Boling, G, Georgia
The Titans have to improve the interior of their offensive line; Chris Johnson needs better run-blocking, while Jake Locker has to be protected for once in his life. Clint Boling is a major steal.

  13. Dallas Cowboys: Brandon Hogan, CB, West Virginia
The Cowboys have not addressed their secondary yet, which is a major surprise. If they plan on keeping Terence Newman, they can afford to give Brandon Hogan a redshirt year.

  14. Miami Dolphins: Virgil Green, TE, Nevada
Anthony Fasano lost his greatest supporter when Bill Parcells left the front office. The Dolphins will be looking for an upgrade at tight end.

Miami likes Virgil Green. He’s really athletic and possesses a ton of upside.

  15. St. Louis Rams: Taiwan Jones, RB, Eastern Washington
The Rams could use a change-of-pace back for Steven Jackson, who doesn’t have many more peak years ahead of him.

  16. Oakland Raiders: Jordan Cameron, TE, USC
Jordan Cameron is the type of “great playa” Al Davis will be searching for in the middle rounds. Another tight end is needed for Hue Jackson’s multiple tight end sets.

  17. Jacksonville Jaguars: Lawrence Wilson, OLB, Connecticut
The oft-injured Justin Durant is a free agent. If he’s not retained, Jacksonville will need a replacement.

Lawrence Wilson is a Gene Smith player. He was a team captain and a 4-year starter at Connecticut.

  18. San Francisco 49ers: Denarius Moore, WR, Tennessee
I still think the 49ers are going to add an explosive weapon across from Michael Crabtree in this draft.

  19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Dion Lewis, RB, Pittsburgh
If the Buccaneers don’t retain Cadillac Williams, they’ll need a new third-down, change-of-pace back behind LeGarrette Blount. Tampa likes Dion Lewis.

  20. New York Giants: Luke Stocker, TE, Tennessee
The Giants take yet another prospect who falls to them.

New York could stand to improve the tight end position; Kevin Boss is a decent player, but he’s nothing special. Luke Stocker is a steal in the middle of Round 4.

    MISSING

  21. Kansas City Chiefs: Ricky Stanzi, QB, Iowa
The Chiefs have shown interest in Ricky Stanzi. They’re looking for a quarterback to groom behind Matt Cassel.

  22. Indianapolis Colts: Tyler Sash, SS, Iowa
Melvin Bullitt is a free agent and Bob Sanders was released. Strong safety has suddenly become a huge need.

An Iowa safety to replace another Iowa safety? Bill Polian does love his Big Ten players.

  23. Philadelphia Eagles: Ross Homan, OLB, Ohio State
The Eagles need to address numerous positions on defense, including strongside linebacker. Stewart Bradley is a free agent who has never fully recovered from a knee injury.

  24. Jacksonville Jaguars: Cliff Matthews, DE, South Carolina
Cliff Matthews is a 4-year starter and a team captain, so he fits Gene Smith’s criteria. More importantly, he fills a big need at defensive end.

  25. Buffalo Bills: Lee Ziemba, OT/G, Auburn
The Bills have to find an upgrade sometime during the 2011 NFL Draft, right?

  26. Baltimore Ravens: Casey Matthews, ILB, Oregon
The Ravens should obtain some competition for Jameel McClain. Ray Lewis will be 36 in May, so Baltimore will need to find a successor as well. The Ravens have expressed interest in Casey Matthews.

  27. Cleveland Browns: Quan Sturdivant, LB, North Carolina
The Browns have found 4-3 personnel for their defensive line. Now they have to think about acquiring some 4-3 linebackers.

  28. Oakland Raiders: Buster Skrine, CB, UT-Chattanooga
It wouldn’t shock me if the Raiders went after two great playas… I mean two cornerbacks in the 2011 NFL Draft.

  29. New York Jets: Jeremy Beal, DE/OLB, Oklahoma
It never hurts to have as many quality pass-rushers as possible when you have to go through Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Ben Roethlisberger every year to get to the Super Bowl.

Jeremy Beal had a terrible Senior Bowl and Combine, so his stock is slipping. But Brandon Spikes, another “falling” prospect, just enjoyed a great rookie campaign for New England. Rex Ryan may want to utilize the same strategy.

  30. Washington Redskins: Jordan Todman, RB, Connecticut
Mike Shanahan’s next 1,000-yard rusher? Jordan Todman is one of the top players available.

  31. Pittsburgh Steelers: Colin McCarthy, LB, Miami
It would not be an NFL Draft if the Steelers didn’t pick a linebacker.

  32. Green Bay Packers: Lawrence Guy, DE/DT, Arizona State
Mike McCarthy recently spoke in the past tense when referring to Cullen Jenkins. Johnny Jolly, meanwhile, was just arrested for drug possession. The Packers really have to look into acquiring a new defensive end.

  33. Tennessee Titans: Greg Salas, WR, Hawaii
The Titans brought in Randy Moss, thinking he could stretch the field and open up some room for Chris Johnson. Of course, teams had already figured out that Moss had nothing left. Tennessee could look for a wideout early on Day 3.

  34. Green Bay Packers: Jalil Brown, CB, Colorado
Cornerback is not much of a need for the Packers, but Jalil Brown is one of the top players available. Green Bay likes tall corners, so Brown fits the bill at 6-1.
