2026 New York Giants Offense:
It didn't take very long for the Giants to turn to first-round rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart last year. Russell Wilson started the first three games, but was benched during the Week 3 loss versus the Chiefs. Dart stepped in and then won his first start against the Chargers. Dart had some very bright moments in his initial season, but there were some dark ones as well, particularly those involving his injuries. Dart was reckless and was checked for a grand total of five potential concussions in just 10 games. He was diagnosed with only one concussion, but given how flimsy NFL doctors can be, there's a chance that Dart was concussed on two or three occasions.
Dart is exciting, but asking him to play it safe would diminish his upside. Thus, the Giants needed to protect him as well as possible and give him plenty of weapons. They certainly failed in the latter objective, but they at least tried to bolster his blocking. They re-signed Jermaine Eluemunor, a solid right tackle who serves as a quality bookend for terrific left tackle Andrew Thomas. The Giants then drafted another tackle, Francis Mauigoa, with the No. 10 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Mauigoa is a talented tackle, but will be asked to play out of position at guard. This was a confusing selection because the Giants could have just drafted the superior guard, Vega Ioane, with that pick. Perhaps Mauigoa will pan out as the team's new right guard, but he doesn't project well in that role.
There's concern with the other two starting offensive linemen as well. Center John Michael Schmitz is a recent second-round pick, but hasn't played up to that level yet. Perhaps he'll be a late bloomer and eventually get there. Left guard Jon Runyan struggled mightily last year. The Giants brought in Daniel Faalele, one of several former Ravens who followed John Harbaugh to New York, to compete for snaps.
As for the receivers, the Giants have a huge problem at the position this year. Malik Nabers is a mega talent, but is coming off a torn ACL that had more complications than usual. There is growing speculation that Nabers may not be available until October, which means that Dart will have to rely on a group of pedestrian veterans as his downfield targets. Darius Slayton is the incumbent, while the likes of Darnell Mooney, Calvin Austin, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Odell Beckham were signed. Beckham used to be the best of the bunch, but he's no longer a viable starter due to age and injuries. Mooney is coming off a dreadful 2025 campaign, but was dealing with an injury all year. It's possible that he could recover and serve as a fine No. 2 option once Nabers returns. There's also third-round rookie Malachi Fields, who has some potential.
Given the state of the receiver corps, Dart will be looking toward his tight ends often. Theo Johnson is an athletic player who developed some chemistry with Dart last year. The Giants, intending to use multi-tight end formations, also signed Isaiah Likely, another former Raven. The extremely athletic Likely had some huge games in Baltimore while serving second fiddle to Mark Andrews. He'll be the primary tight end in New York, meaning he could have his best season yet.
The Giants could also have a great season from Cam Skattebo. The renowned Arizona State product took over as the starter around the same time as Dart last year, and he was terrific as both a runner and a receiver out of the backfield. He suffered a devastating ankle injury in the second matchup against the Eagles, but it's sounding like he'll be ready by Week 1. If not, Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary will once again split the workload in a mediocre rotation.
2026 New York Giants Defense:
It was discussed earlier that the Giants' second opening-round selection, Francis Mauigoa, will be playing out of position, and yet New York could have drafted a better player at that position. Amazingly, the same thing could be said of the Giants' initial first-round pick. It was reported that New York loved Jordyn Tyson, but couldn't resist Arvell Reese when he fell to them at No. 5. Reese was projected by many to be a dynamic edge rusher, but New York has plenty of those with Brian Burns, Abdul Carter, and Kayvon Thibodeaux all stationed at outside linebacker. Reese will be asked to play inside, which may not be a natural fit for him. But even if it is, the Giants could have chosen a better inside linebacker by selecting Sonny Styles.
Nevertheless, Reese will be one of the two inside linebackers, joining Tremaine Edmunds, who was signed over from Chicago. Edmunds is a very athletic player, but has often struggled in coverage. Edmunds, at the very least, will thrive in run support. Reese, conversely, will be learning the position and could struggle before blossoming later. It must be noted, however, that many hybrid linebackers, even those chosen in the top 10, have busted at an alarming rate.
As for the trio of edge rushers mentioned earlier, Burns is the best of the bunch. This was clear when he racked up 16.5 sacks in 2025. Carter has loads of potential as a top-five pick from the 2025 NFL Draft, but he managed just four sacks last year. He also came under scrutiny for openly challenging his quarterback's political beliefs when such matters could have been handled internally. There was some speculation that Thibodeaux (2.5 sacks) could be traded, but in the wake of the antics, it could be Carter who is dealt.
One prominent Giant who was dealt this offseason is Dexter Lawrence. The mega-talented nose tackle is coming off a bit of a down year, but was projected to rebound. Lawrence was shipped off to the Bengals for the No. 10 overall pick, but the Giants were able to replace him with D.J. Reader. This is just a short-term solution, however, given that Reader turned 32 this offseason. Reader will be able to plug running lanes, and he'll be flanked by 2025 third-round pick Darius Alexander and another new addition, Shelby Harris. Alexander will need to make a big leap after struggling mightily as a rookie. Harris is a mediocre veteran who is even older than Reader; he turns 35 in August.
New York also made some additions to the secondary, with two being particularly prominent. Greg Newsome II was signed over from the Jaguars. Newsome is a skilled cornerback who figures to start opposite Paulson Adebo, a mediocre player at the position. Dru Phillips will reprise his role as a fine slot corner.
The other new Giant defensive back is another former Raven. Ar'Darius Washington barely played last year because he was returning from a devastating injury. He should be close to 100 percent now, and if that's the case, he'll be an enormous upgrade at safety. The Giants had mediocre play at the position last season with Jevon Holland and Tyler Nubin. Both will return for 2026, so New York will be hoping that one of them steps up. Nubin is young enough (25) to make a leap, while Holland is still in his prime and could rebound from a disappointing season.
2026 New York Giants Schedule and Intangibles:
The Giants appear to have severe kicking issues. They'll be relying on someone named Ben Sauls or Dominic Zvada this year.
Another former Raven will be punting for the Giants. Jordan Stout was second in net punting last year.
The Giants have a tough fourth-place schedule. They have to go up against the Rams, Seahawks, 49ers, Texans, Jaguars, and Lions.

2026 New York Giants Analysis: The Giants will be much better this year with an upgraded coach and a quarterback who has professional experience. However, they still have some major weaknesses, and their fourth-place schedule is unforgiving. Still, it's not impossible that the Giants will be able to qualify for the playoffs, provided that Jaxson Dart remains healthy.

Adding talent on the offensive line and to the receiver group would make a lot of sense, though New York is smitten Jeremiyah Love. The Giants also need to focus on improving their defensive line and secondary.
2026 NFL Draft Accomplishments: The Titans opted to pass on Arvell Reese in favor of a receiver. This was the right decision to help their young quarterback even though the edge rush was a huge need for them. The Giants were confronted with the same decision, but decided to do the opposite. They could have helped Dart by selecting Tyson, but they went with Reese instead even though they had far less of a need on the edge than Tennessee did. It's curious as to why the Giants made this decision when they had the opportunity to draft the better of the two receivers.
One could say that New York helped Dart with their next top-10 selection, but that's not entirely true. The Giants spent the 10th-overall choice on Francis Mauigoa, who will have to play out of position until Jermaine Eluemunor leaves the team. A big issue, aside from the positional switch, is that Mauigoa has a back injury and may miss a chunk of his rookie season. This is obviously not ideal for Dart.
Only one pick might aid Dart completely this year, and that was the third-rounder used on Malachi Fields. The Giants also made another great selection with Colton Hood on Day 2, so this haul wasn't a total disaster. The Giants were able to obtain some good players, but this draft class was a disappointment overall because the Giants failed to put Dart into the best possible situation to succeed.

NFL Draft Individual Grades:
5. Arvell Reese, DE/OLB, Ohio State – C- Grade
I guess the Giants didn’t think Arvell Reese would be available, so they passed on Jordyn Tyson for him. Reese may be intriguing, but again, he has no set position and is just a one-year starter. Now, Tyson may not get to the Giants, so it’ll be difficult to find some help for Jaxson Dart. This pick has a ton of upside, but there’s a low floor as well, especially when considering that edge rush was not a need whatsoever.
10. Francis Mauigoa, OT, Miami – D Grade
What in the world are the Giants doing? They initially drafted a developmental player over an explosive receiver to potentially be an edge rusher, which they don’t need, and now they drafted a tackle, which they also don’t need, and yet that tackle may not be able to play this year because of a back injury. New York had loads of potential entering the 2026 NFL Draft and squandered it.
37. Colton Hood, CB, Tennessee – A Grade
The Giants were sniped by the Texans and Chiefs for their picks. They were going to draft Kayden McDonald here and Mansoor Delane at No. 10. It all worked out, however, because Hood is a strong value at this spot, as someone who easily could have gone toward the end of Round 1. Cornerback is a huge need, so this selection should make New York feel better about the sniping.
74. Malachi Fields, WR, Notre Dame – B Grade
The Giants traded a 2027 pick for this, which is not something I like. However, the Giants needed to give Jaxson Dart a play-maker, and Malachi Fields is a big receiver who can be a red zone weapon. I had Fields in the second round, so I definitely like the value (without factoring the trade).
186. Bobby Jamison-Travis, NT, Auburn – B Grade
Bobby Jamison-Travis is stout against the run, but doesn’t offer anything as a pass rusher. With Dexter Lawrence gone, this pick can’t be a surprise. Jamison-Travis makes sense in Round 6.
192. J.C. Davis, OT, Illinois – B+ Grade
J.C. Davis is a vesatile tackle. The Giants need depth on the offensive line to help protect Jaxson Dart, so I like this pick, especially because I had Davis going about a dozen picks earlier.
193. Jack Kelly, LB, BYU – A- Grade
Jack Kelly is a tough linebacker who gives maximum effort. I love this pick, as Kelly is someone I pegged as a fourth-round pick. He could become a locker room leader for the Giants if he pans out.
