2026 Cincinnati Bengals Offense:
For the first time in years, the Bengals are entering an NFL season in which there’s no drama. Joe Burrow is not coming off a calf injury or some other malady. The receivers are not begging for new contracts. There hasn’t been a mass exodus of key players. There’s nothing working against the Bengals at the moment, which has created a bullish outlook for the team.

If the Bengals can remain at full strength all season, they’re quite capable of explosive results. Burrow, who missed a chunk of 2025, is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, and he has the best receiver tandem in the league at his disposal. Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins are still both young, so they’ll continue to produce great numbers with their starting quarterback. Andrei Iosivas and tight end Mike Gesicki have filled in well when called upon, while fourth-round rookie Colbie Young could receive some playing time.

Chase Brown is another young Cincinnati skill-position player who will generate quality numbers. Brown isn’t the best runner, but he’s a solid back who can make plenty of plays as a receiver out of the backfield. Reliable Samaje Perine will continue to handle some of the third-down work.

The only concern regarding the offense is how the blocking unit has performed over the years. Everyone remembers the image of Burrow being flat on his back during the final drive of the Super Bowl versus the Rams when attempting to stage a comeback. The Bengals don’t have the best linemen, but they have some talented players. For instance, right tackle Amarius Mims is a recent first-round pick who had a decent 2025 campaign. He could continue to improve, while Orlando Brown Jr. might be able to bounce back from a slightly down year and return to the level he showed with the Chiefs.

The best player on the interior offensive line is Dalton Risner, who was re-signed this offseason. Risner is a quality guard who missed three games last year. He’s projected to start alongside center Ted Karras and Dylan Fairchild. Karras is a fine player, while Fairchild was a slight disappointment as a third-round rookie last season, but could improve. The Bengals used a fourth-round draft choice on Connor Lew, who could challenge Karras for playing time.

2026 Cincinnati Bengals Defense:
Despite the Bengals’ great offensive firepower, they haven’t been to the playoffs since 2022. Part of the reason for this futility was Joe Burrow’s injury last year, but Cincinnati’s primary issue has been its inability to stop anyone since the team lost several talented defenders to free agency.

Believe it or not, the Bengals may actually field a half-decent defense this year. Everyone believed that the front office would address this side of the ball with the 10th-overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and they did, in a matter of speaking. They traded the selection to the Giants for Dexter Lawrence, a monstrous nose tackle who can stuff the run and generate quarterback pressure. The Bengals have sorely missed D.J. Reader since he departed for Detroit. Lawrence is the replacement they’ve needed all this time. Lawrence will start next to another new Bengal, Jonathan Allen. While Allen is past his prime, he’s still an upgrade over what Cincinnati had at the position in recent seasons.

While the Bengals added a Pro Bowl talent to their defensive line, they also lost one. Trey Hendrickson signed a big contract with rival Baltimore, creating a void on the edge. However, it could be argued that this already existed because Hendrickson played only seven games last season. To counter Hendrickson’s departure, Cincinnati signed Boye Mafe away from the Seahawks and then used a second-round draft choice on Cashius Howell to complement Myles Murphy and Shemar Stewart. Mafe performed well for the Seahawks last year, albeit in a deep rotation. Howell has some length issues, but possesses enough talent to become a quality player in the pros. As for the incumbents, Murphy led the team with 5.5 sacks last year, while Stewart was a first-round rookie, though he wasn’t any sort of factor in 2025.

Lawrence isn’t the only dynamic talent the Bengals acquired to counter the loss of Hendrickson. They also signed Bryan Cook in free agency. Cook was one of the best safeties in the NFL last season, so he’ll be an enormous upgrade in Cincinnati’s secondary. He’ll start next to Jordan Battle, a recent third-round pick who had a decent year. The Bengals also signed Kyle Dugger, though he struggled in New England last season.

While Cook and Dugger were signed to bolster the safety situation, the Bengals didn’t address their cornerbacks, save for a third-round choice used on Tacario Davis. The Bengals will continue to start Dax Hill and D.J. Turner at the position. Turner was Cincinnati’s best defensive back last season, while Hill was a solid performer. Nickel corner Jalen Davis has been a career backup, but he’ll get a chance to start this year.

The Bengals also didn’t add anything to their linebacker corps. Logan Wilson was dealt at the trade deadline last year, so Demetius Knight and Barrett Carter will continue to start. Knight and Carter were both rookies chosen in the second and fourth rounds, respectively, so they should be able to enhance their level of play now that they have some experience. They’ll certainly need to do that because they both struggled mightily as rookies.

2026 Cincinnati Bengals Schedule and Intangibles:
Cincinnati has developed a strong home-field advantage recently, going 59-41-1 over the past 12 seasons, excluding 2019, which was a lost year.

Evan McPherson has kicked well for the Bengals over the past few years. He did well to rebound from a dismal 2024 season, going 25-of-28. He was 5-of-8 from 50-plus.

Ryan Rehkow was ninth in net punting in 2024 and 10th in that category last year. He did well to pin the opposition inside the 20.

The Bengals have the easiest schedule in the NFL. They have a couple of tough non-divisional opponents – Texans, Jaguars, Chiefs, potentially the Redskins – but they have so many easy foes on the slate, including the Falcons, Buccaneers, Saints, Panthers, Colts, Titans, and Dolphins.

2026 Cincinnati Bengals Analysis: Aside from a couple of defensive spots, there’s nothing wrong with the Bengals right now. Joe Burrow is healthy, the receivers are happy, and the defense is greatly improved. The schedule is also incredibly easy. Barring a catastrophic injury, the Bengals are a great bet to reach the Super Bowl this year.

NFL Draft Team Grade: B- Grade

Goals Entering the 2026 NFL Draft: Defense, defense, defense. And then, more defense. The Bengals can’t stop anyone, so they need to address every level of their defense. They could stand to add another offensive lineman and a better backup for Chase Brown, but most of their picks need to be spent on the stop unit.

2026 NFL Draft Accomplishments: The Bengals used the 10th-overall pick on defense, but not in the way most fans were expecting a few weeks ago. The Bengals traded for Dexter Lawrence, who will provide an immediate boost to a weak interior defensive front. No one the Bengals could have obtained at No. 10 in a weak draft class could provide the immediate spark that Lawrence will generate, unless he becomes fat and happy from his new contract.

It came as no surprise that the Bengals used both of their second-day picks on defense, though the Tacario Davis selection was underwhelming. Davis is a very stiff cornerback who was chosen two rounds too early.

Oddly enough, the Bengals didn’t use another draft choice on defense until they were on the clock in the middle of the seventh round. While there were some quality choices spent on offensive linemen to protect Joe Burrow and a potent receiving tight end threat, the Bengals also wasted a fifth-round pick on a receiver when this asset could’ve been used to further bolster the weak defense. These missteps are enough to downgrade the Bengals after a strong start with Lawrence and Cashius Howell.

NFL Draft Individual Grades:

41. Cashius Howell, DE, Texas A&M – A- Grade

The Bengals have made some big improvements to their defensive line. They traded for Dexter Lawrence and now found themselves an explosive edge rusher. If Howell had longer arms, he would have been a first-round pick. Howell won’t quite replace Trey Hendrickson, but he’ll certainly help fill the void.

72. Tacario Davis, CB, Washington – C Grade

Tacario Davis is a huge cornerback, but he’s too big because he’s stiff. I had Davis going in the fifth round, so this is a reach. The Bengals are at least addressing a need, but why not just take a shot on Jermod McCoy?

128. Connor Lew, C, Auburn – A Grade

I can’t ever fault the Bengals for drafting a talented lineman to protect Joe Burrow. Connor Lew is a strong and agile blocker. I thought he had a chance to go at the end of Round 2, so I love this value for Cincinnati.

140. Colbie Young, WR, Georgia – D Grade

Colbie Young is an absolutely massive receiver and can run routes well, but speed is a big concern. I didn’t have Young going in my mock draft, and this obviously doesn’t satisfy a need.

189. Brian Parker, C, Duke – B Grade

Brian Parker is a quality athlete who pass protects well. He needs to get stronger for the pros. He can play multiple positions, so that should help protect Joe Burrow, which, again, is always a good thing.

221. Jack Endries, TE, Texas – A Grade

Jack Endries is a dangerous receiving tight end who needs to improve as a blocker. The Bengals need defense, but they could also use another intermediate target for Joe Burrow. I had Endries going in the fourth round, so this is an amazing value.

226. Landon Robinson, DT, Navy – B+ Grade

Landon Robinson is explosive off the snap, but struggles in run defense and is not lengthy at all. You know Robinson is going to work hard, and he could help Cincinnati’s poor defense. I had him going five spots earlier.
