2026 Dallas Cowboys Offense:
Dak Prescott has proven that he can play at an All-Pro level when everything is perfect around him. That was largely the case last year. CeeDee Lamb missed three games, and the team's best offensive lineman was out for a single contest, but all else went according to plan. As a result, Prescott threw for 4,552 yards, 30 touchdowns, and only 10 interceptions.

Things may not be so great for Prescott this time around because of George Pickens' status. Pickens gave Prescott the dynamic No. 2 receiver he had needed for a long time, but a contract dispute could cause Pickens to be displeased and quit on the team like he did toward the end of 2025. Prescott will still have great weapons to aid him, namely Lamb and tight end Jake Ferguson, but Pickens took the offense to another level last year when he tried hard, so he'll be missed if he's not available for any reason. If Pickens lets Dallas down, the team will be looking for more out of Ryan Flournoy, who had a magnificent game against the Lions late in 2025.

Prescott also figures to be well protected again, which hasn't always been the case during his tenure in Dallas. The best offensive lineman mentioned earlier was Tyler Smith, one of the top guards in the NFL. He and Tyler Booker figure to form one of the top guard tandems in the NFL; Booker was a first-round pick last year who had a terrific rookie campaign. It's reasonable to expect Booker to improve his play now that he has experience. He and Smith will flank Cooper Beebe, another young lineman who thrived last year. Beebe, a third-round selection from the 2024 NFL Draft, has been a quality center thus far. He could also improve now that he has more experience."

The tackle situation isn't as promising for the Cowboys. Tyler Guyton is a recent first-round pick, but he has struggled mightily thus far in his professional career. Right tackle Terence Steele has been better, but only by default.

Despite the mediocre tackle play, Dallas was able to run the ball extremely well last year. Javonte Williams looked like an electric back for the Broncos during his rookie year, but wasn't the same following his ACL tear. That changed last year when he switched teams. Williams eclipsed 1,200 rushing yards, and with all three interior blockers returning, there's no reason to expect Williams to regress in 2026.

2026 Dallas Cowboys Defense:
The Cowboys finished second in yardage gained last year, ranking only behind the Rams. Yet, Dallas won just seven games. The reason for this was the putrid defense, which surrendered the third-most yardage in the NFL.

It's safe to say that Micah Parsons was missed. The Cowboys had some players who were able to generate some quarterback pressure last year from Jadeveon Clowney and Dante Fowler, but this wasn't a consistent phenomenon. They needed to obtain better pass rushers this season, and they did just that. They began by trading for Rashan Gary, who logged 7.5 sacks last year for the Packers. Gary has seemingly been around forever, but he's just 28, so he'll continue to play at a high level. He'll be in a three-man rotation with second-year Donovan Ezeiruaku and first-round rookie Malachi Lawrence. Ezeiruaku showed some major potential last year by registering 36 quarterback pressures despite playing about half the snaps. Lawrence, meanwhile, was a late riser who should be able to contribute in his initial season.

The Cowboys received a huge boost from the defensive line at the trade deadline when they acquired Quinnen Williams. The former Jet was incredibly dominant on his new team, notching 32 quarterback pressures in only seven games with the Cowboys. Williams will start on the three-man defensive line with veteran Kenny Clark and newly signed Otito Ogbonnia. There's also fourth-round rookie LT Overton, who could compete for some snaps. Clark was decent last year, but he turns 31 in October, so he could decline a bit. Ogbonnia, conversely, was rather lackluster for the Chargers in 2025.

Dallas also made changes to its secondary and linebacker corps. Three new players were added to the defensive backfield, including first-round rookie Caleb Downs. The Ohio State product is a dynamic talent and should be an instant upgrade for the Cowboys. He's a natural safety, but could play in the slot as well because Dallas has two starting-caliber safeties, including newly signed Jalen Thompson. The former Cardinal is coming off a solid season, and he will start next to Malik Hooker, who was decent in run support last year.

The cornerbacks, meanwhile, received a boost in the wake of the Cobie Durant signing. Formerly of the Rams, Durant isn't a great player by any means, but he's certainly a big upgrade over the terrible players Dallas had at the position last year. He'll start opposite DaRon Bland, who is coming off an injury-ravaged campaign. Bland should be able to rebound in 2026.

The new player in Dallas' linebacker group is Dee Winters. Signed over from the Rams, Winters is much like Durant. He's not very good at all, but he's still a lot better than what the Cowboys had at the position last season. He'll play next to DeMarvion Overshown, a very talented linebacker who has missed lots of recent action due to injury.

2026 Dallas Cowboys Schedule and Intangibles:
Brandon Aubrey is arguably the best kicker in the NFL. He was 36-of-42 last year, hitting a ridiculous 11-of-17 from 50-plus. In the past two seasons, he's 25-of-34 from beyond 50.

Bryan Anger is coming off a down year. He went from ranking second in net punting average to 13th, and he didn't place the ball inside the 20 very consistently.

The Cowboys have a mixed non-divisional schedule. They have to take on the Ravens, Texans, 49ers, Seahawks, Rams and Jaguars. On the bright side, they also get the Buccaneers, Cardinals, Colts, and Titans.

2026 Dallas Cowboys Analysis: The Cowboys had one of the worst defenses in the NFL last year. This prevented them from reaching the playoffs despite owning the NFL's No. 2 offense. Dallas still has some holes on the defensive side of the ball, but it made some big improvements this offseason. As long as the Cowboys can maintain their offense close to the level they possessed in 2025, they'll be in postseason contention. In fact, a deep run into the playoffs can't be discounted.

NFL Draft Team Grade: A Grade

Goals Entering the 2026 NFL Draft: The Cowboys have an explosive offense, but couldn't stop anyone last year. They added Rashan Gary to their defense, but still need one more superstar to make the appropriate improvement to give themselves a chance to make a playoff run in 2026. They'll need to consider moving up for an edge rusher or Sonny Styles and then use some other picks to add another potential defensive starter or two.

2026 NFL Draft Accomplishments: Dallas had six draft choices prior to Round 7, and five of those were spent on defense. This couldn't have been surprising to anyone, given how poor the Cowboys were defensively last year.

But were the picks good? Well, the Cowboys landed the top safety in the draft at No. 11, and then followed that up with a very speedy edge rusher, whom they obtained after trading down three spots. The Cowboys landed another talented edge rusher in the third round and then acquired a ballhawking cornerback in the fourth frame. Caleb Downs, Malachi Lawrence, Jaishawn Barham, and Devin Moore all scored "B" or better individually.

The Cowboys had to improve their defense, and that's exactly what they did. It wasn't a perfect draft, but Jerry Jones had a great weekend.

NFL Draft Individual Grades:

11. Caleb Downs, S, Ohio State – B Grade

I don’t know why the Cowboys would move up to No. 11 when they had their choice of Caleb Downs and Rueben Bain. They just wasted two fifth-round picks, which isn’t the end of the world, but is still a poor use of resources. That spoils what would otherwise be an “A” pick because Downs is one of the top players in this class. The Cowboys desperately needed to find play-makers for their defense, and they certainly obtained one.

23. Malachi Lawrence, DE, Central Florida – A- Grade

I like that the Cowboys traded down three spots and were able to obtain a player they could have easily chosen at their natural selection. Malachi Lawrence is an explosive pass rusher who should be able to help Dallas get to the quarterback for a change. He’s a liability against the run, but Dallas needed a pass-rushing replacement for Micah Parsons.

92. Jaishawn Barham, DE/OLB, Michigan – A Grade

This is a great value pick for the Cowboys. I had Jaishawn Barham in the second round. He’s a linebacker who can generate a good pass rush. I wouldn’t be crazy about him dropping into coverage, however.

112. Drew Shelton, OT/G/C, Penn State – A+ Grade

The Cowboys needed to go defense, defense, defense, but they also needed depth on their offensive line. Drew Shelton is a perfect player for depth because he can play every single position. I thought Shelton could’ve gone much higher than Round 4 for that reason, so I love this selection.

114. Devin Moore, CB, Florida – B+ Grade

Devin Moore is a very tall cornerback with a knack for intercepting passes. This sounds great, but he has an extensive injury history. If he can get over it, the Cowboys could be getting a solid starter with this pick, but there’s definitely a major downside.

137. L.T. Overton, DE, Alabama – A Grade

LT Overton is a tough defender with good quickness and athleticism. I had him going in the third round, so the Cowboys are getting a steal and filling a position of need. It’s hard not to like this pick.

218. Anthony Smith, WR, East Carolina – C Grade

Anthony Smith is not someone I had in my top-400 prospects. The Cowboys probably would have been better off drafting players who can help their defense.
