Live 2022 NFL Draft Grades: Round 4

These Live 2022 NFL Draft Grades will be posted minutes after each pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Follow @walterfootball for updates.

2022 NFL Draft Grades - Round: Picks 1-16 | Picks 17-32 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | NFL Draft Team Grades

  1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Cade Otton, TE, Washington – B+ Grade
It should come as no surprise that the Buccaneers are picking a tight end to begin Day 3. O.J. Howard is gone, while Rob Gronkowski is a question mark to return, though I think he just wants to skip training camp. Still, the Buccaneers needed a young tight end, and Otton is a solid choice at this spot.

  2. Houston Texans: Dameon Pierce, RB, Florida – A- Grade
The Texans needed a running back, and the Jets stole Breece Hall from them in the second round. Dameon Pierce, a tough runner, is a nice consolation prize here in the fourth round. I thought he’d go a round earlier, so I like this pick.

  3. Cleveland Browns: Perrion Winfrey, DT, Oklahoma – A+ Grade
I slotted Perrion Winfrey to the Browns in the re-draft because it made so much sense. Cleveland needed defensive line help, and Winfrey is someone I had in the second round. This is a major steal for the Browns, as they’re getting someone who dominated in the trenches at Oklahoma.

  4. Seattle Seahawks: Coby Bryant, CB, Cincinnati – B Grade
Coby Bryant is a solid prospect I had in the fourth round for most of my mock draft updates, so I like this range for him. He also fills a need the Seahawks had at cornerback. I just wonder why Seattle hasn’t addressed quarterback yet. The team has no chance with Geno Smith or Drew Lock.

  5. Baltimore Ravens: Daniel Faalele, OT, Minnesota – B+ Grade
It should come at no surprise that the Ravens drafted an absolute mauler to fix their offensive line. Daniel Faaelele is one of the largest human beings on the planet, so the question is if he can move well enough in the NFL. The Ravens believe he can, and if so, he’ll fill a big need at right tackle. He’s worth the risk in the fourth round.

  6. New York Jets: Max Mitchell, OT, Louisiana-Lafayette – B+ Grade
Max Mitchell is a solid tackle prospect I’ve had in the fourth round of my mock drafts on a consistent basis. With the Jets having issues with Mekhi Becton – he reportedly weighed in at 400 pounds recently – it would make sense for them to obtain some insurance.

  7. New York Giants: Daniel Bellinger, TE, San Diego State – B- Grade
I’ve had Daniel Bellinger around this area or a bit later, so I don’t think this is much of a reach. The Giants needed to address tight end with Evan Engram gone. I think there are some better tight ends available, but I don’t dislike this selection.

  8. Washington Redskins: Percy Butler, S, Louisiana-Lafayette – C+ Grade
The Redskins passed on safety in the first two days of the draft, and they were forced into reaching at the position because there isn’t great value available on Day 3. Percy Butler was a fifth-round prospect for me, so this isn’t an egregious reach, but it seems as though the Redskins could’ve handled their strategy differently.

  9. New York Giants: Dane Belton, S, Iowa – C+ Grade
This pick is identical to the one the Redskins just made of Percy Butler. The Giants are reaching a bit for safety because the third-day value sucks at the position. This isn’t a huge reach, like the Butler pick, but I’m not a fan of it.

  10. Denver Broncos: Damarri Mathis, CB, Pittsburgh – B+ Grade
The Broncos had to address their cornerback situation, as it’s not very promising outside of Patrick Surtain. Damarri Mathis could help sooner rather than later, as he’s a solid choice here in the fourth round. I’ve had him in this range in most updates.

  11. Denver Broncos: Eyioma Uwazurike, DT, Iowa State – C Grade
Eyioma Uwazurike impressed during pre-draft workouts and did a good job of improving his draft stock, but I think this is a bit too rich for him. I had him pegged in the sixth round, so I’m not a fan of this pick, though it potentially fills a need.

  12. New York Jets: Micheal Clemons, DE, Texas A&M – B+ Grade
I like this gamble for the Jets, and I’m not surprised Joe Douglas made this pick. Micheal Clemons is a bit of a raw player, but has high upside. He could easily fizzle out, or he could become a solid edge rusher for the Jets. New York needs as many pass rushers as it could get.

  13. Minnesota Vikings: Akayleb Evans, CB, Missouri – B Grade
There’s good cornerback value here in the fourth round, so I don’t think the Vikings needed to trade up necessarily. They surrendered a 2023 fourth-rounder to get Akayleb Evans, so that’ll weigh down this grade. I like Evans though, as he’s a tall corner with good athleticism, and we know the Vikings need corners.

  14. Baltimore Ravens: Jalyn Armour-Davis, CB, Alabama – A- Grade
It turns out that the Ravens still pick players from Alabama after all! I like this selection, as I had Jalyn Armour-Davis slotted a bit earlier than this. He’s a tall cornerback who will help with Baltimore’s abysmal depth that killed them last year.

  15. Carolina Panthers: Brandon Smith, LB, Penn State – B+ Grade
Brandon Smith has great athleticism and upside, so I like the Panthers taking a shot on him in the fourth round. He’s also a versatile player who will be able to help the Panthers’ defense in a number of ways, provided he lives up to his potential.

  16. New England Patriots: Jack Jones, CB, Arizona State – C+ Grade
Surprise, surprise, the Patriots reached for a player! It’s not as bad to do so on Day 3, but I had Jack Jones in the sixth or seventh round in some of my updates. He thrived at the combine, but he could have been chosen later than this. Still, it makes sense that New England would take a cornerback, and Bill Belichick knows a thing or two about players at that position.

  17. Las Vegas Raiders: Zamir White, RB, Georgia – B+ Grade
Zamir White is the next of impressive backs to come out of Georgia, along with James Cook. He’s a solid pick here in the fourth round, as the Raiders need to figure out what to do with Josh Jacobs, who has been very inconsistent for them.

  18. Los Angeles Chargers: Isaiah Spiller, RB, Texas A&M – A- Grade
I didn’t think running back was atop the Chargers’ needs list, but I can’t blame them for not passing on a talented running back like Isaiah Spiller. I thought Spiller should’ve been chosen a round earlier, so I love this value San Angeles is getting with someone who will provide good insurance for Austin Ekeler.

  19. Cleveland Browns: Cade York, K, LSU – O’BRIEN Grade
Ugh, come on. I know the Browns had kicker woes, but kickers can be found on the street. Seriously, just walk down the street and ask people to try out for kicker, and you’ll find a half-decent one. There’s no need to waste a significant pick on one.

  20. Miami Dolphins: Erik Ezukanma, WR, Texas Tech – C Grade
It feels like the one thing the Dolphins didn’t need was a receiver, so why spend a pick on one with so few selections. Erik Ezukanma is an intruging receiver with nice size, but where does he fit into the roster?

  21. Las Vegas Raiders: Neil Farrell, NT, LSU – B- Grade
Neil Farrell is a big nose tackle who can help the Patriots stop the run. The problem is that the rest of the AFC West is all about passing, so I’m not sure about this fit. Farrell makes sense in this range as a fourth-round prospect though.

  22. New England Patriots: Pierre Strong, RB, South Dakota State – C- Grade
Bill Belichick might send me hate mail after this draft, but I don’t like this pick either. Pierre Strong is a bit of a reach, and the Patriots have no need for a running back with so much talent at the position.

  23. Baltimore Ravens: Charlie Kolar, TE, Iowa State – A- Grade
The Ravens, as usual, are making a solid value pick. Charlie Kolar is a nice route runner with good hands, and I thought he could’ve gone a bit earlier than this. He doesn’t fill a need, but Baltimore has so many picks.

  24. Dallas Cowboys: Jake Ferguson, TE, Wisconsin – B- Grade
I mocked Jake Ferguson to the Cowboys, but in the fifth round. He makes sense for them despite this being a bit of a reach though. Dallas fears that it’ll lose Dalton Schultz after this season, so Ferguson could take over as the starter in 2023 and beyond, assuming that he doesn’t flop.

  25. Baltimore Ravens: Jordan Stout, P, Penn State – O’MILLEN GRADE
Rich Eisen says that punters are people. I disagree. They are demonic abominations. Regardless of what they are, they do not belong in the fourth round of any draft, even in one as weak as this class.

  26. Tennessee Titans: Hassan Haskins, RB, Michigan – C- Grade
Hassan Haskins was in and out of my mock draft in the sixth and seventh round. He didn’t make the final cut, but easily could have. With that in mind, this is a reach. The Titans could’ve found a similar running back later, though it does make sense that they’d find some insurance for Derrick Henry.

  27. Green Bay Packers: Romeo Doubs, WR, Nevada – A- Grade
Aaron Rodgers has to be thrilled that his team is picking another receiver. Romeo Doubs had some great pre-draft workouts at the Senior Bowl to put himself on the map, and I liked him in this range. He obviously potentially fills a huge need.

  28. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jake Camarda, P, Georgia – MILLEN-19 GRADE
I’m so sick of these punter and kicker picks, yet they’re great at the same time because I can make fun of them for being so bad.

  29. San Francisco 49ers: Spencer Burford, OT, Texas-San Antonio – B+ Grade
It makes sense for the 49ers to find some tackle insurance because Trent Williams is in his mid-30s and could regress at any time. Burford provides nice value – I had him earlier in this round – and he could eventually be a starter for San Francisco.

  30. Kansas City Chiefs: Joshua Williams, WR, Fayetteville State – A Grade
I’m a big fan of this pick for the Chiefs. They really needed to shore up their ailing secondary, so another defensive back pick makes sense. Joshua Williams is someone I had mocked in the third round on some occasions, so I love this value.

  31. Cincinnati Bengals: Cordell Volson, OT, North Dakota State – D Grade
This pick neither fills a need nor provides any value. I didn’t have Cordell Volson in my mock draft in any update, though I considered him in the seventh round. The Bengals signed so many offensive linemen, so it didn’t seem like they needed another one.

  32. New England Patriots: Bailey, Zappe, QB, Western Kentucky – D Grade
Yeah, I’m definitely getting hate mail from Bill Belichick, and I’ll publish it for sure. What is this? Did the Patriots forget that he has Mac Jones on his roster? I know the fourth round is a time for backup quarterbacks, but it’s not like Bailey Zappe is the best player at the position. This seems like a wasted selection.

  33. Pittsburgh Steelers: Calvin Austin, WR/KR, Memphis – A- Grade
I’m surprised Calvin Austin lasted this long, as I’ve had him in the third round consistently. He’s a very small receiver, but he’s incredibly fast and explosive. Given the receiving talent already on Pittsburgh’s roster, Austin will likely settle in as the return specialist.

  34. Baltimore Ravens: Isaiah Likely, TE, Coastal Carolina – C Grade
OK, I get picking one tight end for the value, but two seems a bit ridiculous. It’s not like this is a good tight end class. Isaiah Likely has nice upside, but the Ravens now have a log jam at the position.

  35. Green Bay Packers: Zach Tom, OT/C, Wake Forest – A+ Grade
I love the value and the need, as well as the player. Zach Tom is a versatile offensive lineman who can basically play tackle and center. The Packers had to find some better blockers for Aaron Rodgers, as the offensive line was a major issue, and Tom seems to qualify. I had him slotted in the third round consistently, so it’s nice that Tom was available at this juncture.

  36. Baltimore Ravens: Damarion Williams, CB, Houston – C+ Grade
I get that the Ravens want to obtain another cornerback, given the big problems they had there last year. Damarion Williams, however, is a bit of an underwhelming prospect, as I had him in the sixth-seventh range.

  37. Los Angeles Rams: Cobie Durant, CB, South Carolina State – C Grade
The Rams are reaching here, as Cobie Durant never entered any of my mock drafts. I considered him in the seventh round, but he never made the cut. I get the Rams picking a cornerback though, as they have a thin secondary that had to be addressed.

  38. Tennessee Titans: Chig Okonkwo, TE, Maryland – B Grade
I liked one or two tight ends better than Chig Okonkwo, but the Titans are making a fine selection to conclude the fourth round. They’ve lacked good tight end play for quite some time, so maybe Okonkwo can help in that regard.
