Live 2022 NFL Draft Grades: Round 7

These Live 2022 NFL Draft Grades will be posted minutes after each pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Follow @walterfootball for updates.

2022 NFL Draft Grades - Round: Picks 1-16 | Picks 17-32 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | NFL Draft Team Grades

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Montaric Brown, CB, Arkansas – B Grade
Montaric Brown was always on the cusp of making the final round of my 2022 NFL Mock Draft, but never got in, unfortunately. The good news for him is that he was drafted. He was productive at Arkansas, so perhaps he can give the Jaguars some needed depth at corner.

  2. Cleveland Browns: Isaiah Thomas, DE/OLB, Oklahoma – B+ Grade
Isaiah Thomas was someone I toggled between the sixth and seventh rounds, but didn’t make the final cut in the mock. The Browns need edge-rushing help, so perhaps Thomas will be able to contribute at some point.

  3. Miami Dolphins: Cameron Goode, LB, California – B+ Grade
Cameron Goode was in the sixth round of my final mock, so this is a slight value pick. It also fills a need; once again, the Dolphins brought in so many linebackers for visits, so they really wanted to address this position.

  4. Pittsburgh Steelers: Mark Robinson, LB, Ole Miss – B Grade
I pegged Mark robinson in the seventh round, so he makes sense as the Steelers’ 225th-overall pick. Robinson can provide some much-needed depth the Steelers currently lack at linebacker at the moment.

  5. Chicago Bears: Ja’Tyre Carter, OT/G, Southern – B+ Grade
Ja’Tyre Carter is a very athletic offensive lineman with nice upside, so I’m a fan of this pick in the final round. The Bears, once again, have major blocking issues, so perhaps Carter can eventually make his way into the starting lineup.

  6. Minnesota Vikings: Nick Muse, TE, South Carolina – B Grade
I slotted Nick Muse at No. 223 in the final mock, so this range is perfect for him. The Vikings lost Tyler Conklin this offseason, so they needed to address their depth at tight end.

  7. Green Bay Packers: Tariq Carpenter, S, Georgia Tech – B+ Grade
I mocked this exact pick to the Packers in the seventh round. This fit makes sense, as the Packers needed to address their secondary depth. Green Bay showed interest in Carpenter, so they got their man.

  8. Seattle Seahawks: Bo Melton, WR, Rutgers – A Grade
Bo Melton is an explosive receiver. Just watch some videos of him. He should have been drafted earlier than this. He’ll fill a need if/when the Seahawks trade one of their top two receivers.

  9. Washington Redskins: Chris Paul, G, Tulsa – B Grade
I mocked Chris Paul eight picks after this one, so I like the range for this prospect. Adding offensive line help makes sense as well, given that the Redskins currently don’t have a great blocking unit to shield Carson Wentz or Sam Howell.

  10. Buffalo Bills: Baylon Spector, LB, Clemson – A- Grade
This is a quality value pick, as I thought Baylon Spector could’ve gone as early as the fifth round. Finding more linebacker depth was essential for the Bills.

  11. Denver Broncos: Faion Hicks, CB, Wisconsin – B Grade
Faion Hicks is a small corner (5-10, 185), but he posted some impressive testing numbers at his pro day, including a 4.37 40. With quality upside, he’s worth a shot in the seventh round.

  12. Seattle Seahawks: Dareke Young, WR, Lenoir-Rhyne – B Grade
I’m not sure why the Seahawks needed another receiver, but Dareke Young’s range makes sense to me in the seventh round. I slotted him to the Seahawks at No. 229, so I can’t grade this pick poorly!

  13. Green Bay Packers: Jonathan Ford, NT, Miami – B Grade
The Packers were looking for a monstrous nose tackle to help them stop the run, and Jonathan Ford will definitely help in that regard. He makes sense at this selection in the seventh frame.

  14. Los Angeles Rams: Daniel Hardy, DE, Montana State – A Grade
I love this value for the Rams. I had Daniel Hardy pegged as a fifth-round prospect, as he was a highly productive player at Montana State. The Rams needed a replacement for Von Miller, so perhaps Hardy can contribute at some point.

  15. Los Angeles Chargers: Deane Leonard, CB, Ole Miss – B Grade
Deane Leonard wasn’t on my radar at all until he ran a 4.39 40 at 6-1. He has quality upside, which is what you want from your late-round picks. Besides, the Chargers need as much corner help as possible.

  16. Detroit Lions: Chase Lucas, CB, Arizona State – A Grade
Chase Lucas was in the second round of my 2022 NFL Mock Draft once upon a time. He doesn’t have big upside, but he was a productive player at Arizona State, and I thought he would be chosen in the fifth frame. This seems like a good value at a position of need.

  17. Las Vegas Raiders: Thayer Munford, G, Ohio State – B+ Grade
Thayer Munford played tackle at Ohio State, but he can’t handle edge rushers, so he’ll have to play at guard. Pass protection will still be an issue, but he should run block well. This is nice value for him.

  18. Indianapolis Colts: Rodney Thomas, S, Yale – C+ Grade
Rodney Thomas II, much like Rodney Thomas I, was not considered to be a draftable prospect by anyone. I’m not even sure if he’s a real person, but I guess we’ll find out soon.

  19. Washington Redskins: Christian Holmes, CB, Oklahoma State – B Grade
I just missed on Christian Holmes, mocking him 239th instead of 240th! Darn it, my mock is ruined! At any rate, Christian Holmes is a tall corner, so there’s that. Cornerback is a huge need, so perhaps Holmes will have a chance to make the final roster.

  20. Pittsburgh Steelers: Chris Oladokun, QB, South Dakota State – B Grade
A quarterback to challenge Kenny Pickett once he begins fumbling a dozen times per game. I’m kidding, well, sort of. Chris Oladokun projects as a possible No. 2 quarterback in the NFL, and I thought he could go a bit earlier than this. It might be difficult for him to make the final roster though.

  21. Carolina Panthers: Kalon Barnes, CB, Baylor – A+ Grade
Wow, what a steal! I had Kalon Barnes in the fourth round. Leave it to a former Seahawks executive to obtain a high-upside cornerback in the late rounds. Kalon Barnes is extremely fast, so at the very worst, he’ll contribute on special teams.

  22. Kansas City Chiefs: Jaylen Watson, CB, Washington State – A+ Grade
What is happening!? How are these talented cornerbacks falling to the seventh round? As with Kalon Barnes, I had Jaylen Watson projected to the fourth round. The tall cornerback is a great value for the Chiefs in the final frame.

  23. Arizona Cardinals: Christian Matthew, CB, Valdosta State – B- Grade
Christian Matthew was a productive player at Valdosta State, but I didn’t think he would be drafted. It’s never a bad idea to add a cornerback when needing to battle the Rams twice per year though.

  24. New England Patriots: Andrew Steuber, OT/G, Michigan – B+ Grade
It should come as no surprise that the Patriots drafted a versatile offensive lineman. Andrew Steuber can play both tackle and guard. I like this pick – it’s true, Bill – as Steuber could’ve been taken a bit earlier than this.

  25. Cleveland Browns: Dawson Deaton, C, Texas Tech – B+ Grade
I mocked Dawson Deaton at 250 rather than 246, but I like this pick for the Browns because they really needed insurance at center. They lost J.C. Tretter, so they needed someone to compete with Nick Harris for the job.

  26. Miami Dolphins: Skylar Thompson, QB, Kansas State – C Grade
The Dolphins may view Skylar Thompson as their Taysom Hill, but with so few picks, they couldn’t really afford to take a gadget player like this. Besides, Hill hasn’t been all that good for the Saints anyway.

  27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Andre Anthony, DE/OLB, LSU – B Grade
The Buccaneers needed edge-rushing depth, so perhaps Andre Anthony will be able to make the final roster. I tried slotting him in the seventh round, but never fit him into the mock. This is a fine pick though.

  28. Green Bay Packers: Rasheed Walker, OT, Penn State – A+ Grade
Another great value pick. I had Rasheed Walker in the fourth round. He never quite lived up to his potential, but he has great upside and perhaps could become a solid pro with good NFL coaching. I love this gamble for the Packers, who needed offensive line help.

  29. Las Vegas Raiderss: Brittain Brown, RB, UCLA – C Grade
I never thought Brittain brown would be drafted, as he was just a “meh” running back at UCLA. I’m not sure what the Raiders see in him.

  30. Kansas City Chiefs: Isaih Pacheco, RB, Rutgers – C Grade
Isaih Pacheco was fast in college, but I don’t think that’ll translate to the NFL. He doesn’t break any tackles and doesn’t possess any positive tools for an NFL running back.

  31. Cincinnati Bengals: Jeffery Gunter, DE, Coastal Carolina – B+ Grade
This is a decent value pick for the Bengals, who wanted to address their pass rush in the 2022 NFL Draft. I had Jeffery Gunter slotted in the fifth or sixth rounds of my mock draft on a consistent basis.

  32. Los Angeles Rams: Russ Yeast, S, Louisville – B Grade
Russ Yeast may have been chosen earlier in the 2022 NFL Draft if he didn’t have a knee concern, but he’s worth a shot toward the seventh round.

  33. Chicago Bears: Elijah Hicks, S, California – B- Grade
Elijah Hicks was a productive player at California, but he’s a bit undersized, so I didn’t think he’d be drafted. We’re in the compensatory portion of the seventh round though, so this isn’t a big deal.

  34. Chicago Bears: Trenton Gill, P, N.C. State – B Grade
Though punters are demonic abominations, they are worth picking in the seventh round as opposed to the fourth frame. I’m fine with this selection, though it’s not very exciting.

  35. Arizona Cardinals: Jesse Luketa, DE/OLB, Penn State – A Grade
This is another great value pick in the seventh round. I had Jesse Luketa pegged in the fifth frame. He potentially fills a need as well, given that Chandler Jones departed this offseason.

  36. Arizona Cardinals: Marquis Hayes, G, Oklaoma – A Grade
The Cardinals are dominating the compensatory portion of the seventh round! Marquis Hayes, like Jesse Luketa, is someone I had in the fourth round, so I’m loving the value. Like Luketa, he fills a need as a blocker for Kyler Murray.

  37. Green Bay Packers: Samori Toure, WR, Nebraska – A- Grade
I like this as a value pick as well, though a bit less so. Samori Toure became a known name in March when he thrived in his pro day. He has nice upside, so perhaps Aaron Rodgers will be able to turn him into a viable NFL receiver.

  38. Kansas City Chiefs: Nazeeh Johnson, S, Marshall – B- Grade
Nazeeh Johnson was not on my radar at all as a draftable prospect. I’d go into the “C” range if this were not in the compensatory portion of the seventh round.

  39. San Angeles Chargers: Zander Horvath, FB, Purdue – B Grade
I’m not opposed to the Chargers closing out their draft class with a fullback with the antepenultimate pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Austin Ekeler and the rest of the backs will be happy about this.

  40. Los Angeles Rams: A.J. Arcuri, OT/G, Michigan State – B- Grade
I didn’t think A.J. Arcuri was a draftable prospect. He started at tackle at Michigan State, but may have to move to guard because of his expected issues with pass rushers. I don’t know if he has the strength to do that.

  41. San Francisco 49ers: Brock Purdy, QB, Iowa State – B Grade
Brock Purdy has no chance of becoming a starting quarterback in the NFL, but he might be a quality backup. He can compete with Nate Sudfeld behind Trey Lance once Jimmy Garoppolo is traded. I would have preferred Carson Strong though.
