2024 NFL Draft Re-Grades: Picks 17-32

2024 NFL Draft Grades - Round: Picks 1-16 | Picks 17-32 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | NFL Draft Team Grades
  1. Minnesota Vikings Minnesota Vikings: Dallas Turner, DE, Alabama – C Grade
    One-Year Grade: C Grade

Dallas Turner logged three sacks as a rookie. He was a part-time player, as he was often played less than 50 percent of snaps. His role is set to expand in his second season, so we’ll be able to see how good of a NFL player he is.

    Original Write-up:

I don’t like that the Vikings are surrendering third- and fourth-round picks next year to move up just six spots. Dallas Turner may seem like a great value to some, but there are teams that flagged him medically, which is why he has fallen so far. I get the need, and Turner is a great talent, but there’s high risk with this pick.

Also, if you haven’t visited the site in a while, you may have noticed the new look. Yes, after nearly two decades, we’ve finally re-designed our site to be more modern. This was not done on a whim, but rather out of necessity because of what occurred during the 2023 NFL Draft. Our site crashed during the entire first day of the draft, which was disastrous for our revenue stream because we make more money during the draft than any other time. The site crashed because a line of code conflicted with the old format of the site, so we had to transition to this new look.

Because we lost so much money during the draft, I want to point out that you can really help support the site by paying for the ad-free version of it. It’s $7.99 per month, but you’ll get a super-fast site with no ads. My developer will be adding new features to paid subscribers as well, so look for that in the near future. If you don’t want to pay, please spread the word about the site through word of mouth. That would also be a big help!

  2. Cincinnati Bengals Cincinnati Bengals: Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia – A Grade
    One-Year Grade: B+ Grade

Amarius Mims got off to a rocky start after missing the first two games of the season. He made his initial start in Week 4 and had some issues in pass protection until the midway point of the season. He then improved his play and finished on a strong note. With experience, Mims figures to perform better in 2025.

    Original Write-up:

This was Cincinnati’s second-preferred player at this spot, with J.C. Latham being the first. You have to love this pick because Cincinnati is making it to protect Joe Burrow. Mims is an immense talent with a high ceiling, so Burrow has to love this selection.

  3. Los Angeles Rams Los Angeles Rams: Jared Verse, DE, Florida State – B- Grade
    One-Year Grade: A+ Grade

I was way too low on Jared Verse. He deserves an A+ grade, given that he won Defensive Rookie of the Year. Verse was a devastating pass rusher whose ability to generate pressure gave the Rams a fighting chance against the Eagles in the divisional round of the playoffs.

    Original Write-up:

It has to be disappointing for the Rams that they couldn’t get Byron Murphy. It makes sense though that they would target a front-seven player because their offense is so explosive. I’m not crazy about this pick because Jared Verse isn’t close to the other two edge rushers who were chosen earlier, yet he’s being taken so close to them. I don’t hate this pick – Verse likely belonged in the 20s – but it’s a bit underwhelming for a team that hadn’t drafted in the first round since 2016.

  4. Pittsburgh Steelers Pittsburgh Steelers: Troy Fautanu, OT/G/C, Washington – B- Grade
    One-Year Grade: Inc. Grade

Here’s another incomplete grade. Troy Fautanu played just one game before being lost for the season. He looked good in his brief action, but there’s obviously a lack of data here to make a determination on how well Fautanu will perform in the future.

    Original Write-up:

The Steelers really need a center. Troy Fautanu is viewed mostly as a right tackle or guard, but he can play center as well. He comes with some major risk, however, as he was flagged medically by some teams. Graham Barton probably would have been the safer pick for Pittsburgh, though Fautanu comes with more upside.

  5. Miami Dolphins Miami Dolphins: Chop Robinson, DE, Penn State – B Grade
    One-Year Grade: A Grade

Chop Robinson began the year with a very limited snap count, but that grew as the season progressed. Robinson rewarded the Dolphins with the extended playing time with some great production. He notched seven sacks despite playing about half the snaps all year. He could have a big 2025 if his role continues to expand.

    Original Write-up:

This pick makes a lot of sense. The Dolphins really needed a pass rusher with the team losing so many of them in free agency. Chop Robinson’s range was in the 20s – arguably a bit ahead of Jared Verse, depending on whom you ask – so the Dolphins are getting appropriate value. They needed a pass rusher to hound all the great quarterbacks in the AFC, and Robinson will help them do that.

  6. Philadelphia Eagles Philadelphia Eagles: Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo – A Grade
    One-Year Grade: A+ Grade

The Eagles couldn’t stop the pass at all in 2023. Quinyon Mitchell was a huge factor in that complete reversal for Philadelphia. He and Cooper DeJean were stellar as rookies, as they were both able to lock down opposing receivers as if they were seasoned veterans.

    Original Write-up:

Wow, not a Georgia or Alabama player? Who kidnapped Howie Roseman? This is actually a great pick, and I’m happier about my Eagles 17/1 Super Bowl bet. There was talk about Quinyon Mitchell going No. 13 to the Raiders or No. 15 to the Colts, so the Eagles are getting great value with arguably the top cornerback in the draft at No. 22 overall.

  7. Jacksonville Jaguars Jacksonville Jaguars: Brian Thomas, WR, LSU – A+ Grade
    One-Year Grade: A+ Grade

There were many great selections in the first round, but this was arguably the best pick of them all. Brian Thomas Jr., who might emerge as the best skill player in this draft class, was completely dominant in the second half of the season despite playing with Mac Jones for many games.

    Original Write-up:

Contrary to popular opinion, the Jaguars didn’t want Calvin Ridley back. They viewed him as problematic in the locker room. However, they knew they were going to miss Ridley’s production, which would explain this selection. I love that the Jaguars traded down and acquired Thomas when they could have just as easily taken him at No. 17 without any complaints. This is an A+ pick for that reason.

  8. Detroit Lions Detroit Lions: Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama – A+ Grade
    One-Year Grade: C+ Grade

Terrion Arnold had some coverage issues as a rookie. He had some good games, but struggled while defending receivers for the most part. He was at least good in run support and barely missed any tackles, so there were some positives.

    Original Write-up:

I bet the Lions were absolutely shocked that Terrion Arnold was still on the board at No. 24. He wasn’t going to last until No. 29, so I like Detroit moving up five spots to land someone who was considered the top cornerback in the draft by some. Detroit desperately needed a cornerback in the wake of Cam Sutton’s arrest, and Arnold seems like an instant upgrade.

  9. Green Bay Packers Green Bay Packers: Jordan Morgan, OT, Arizona – B Grade
    One-Year Grade: D Grade

Jordan Morgan failed to crack the starting lineup until Week 9, which was very disappointing. Morgan finally earned a start against the Lions in Week 9, but he suffered an injury and was lost for the season.

    Original Write-up:

I’m a bit surprised that the Packers are drafting Jordan Morgan over Tyler Guyton when Guyton was such a better fit. There’s some questions with Morgan’s toughness, which would worry me. However, he has big upside, and Green Bay is smart to do something to protect “No Cookie” Jordan Love, so this seems like a solid choice.

  10. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Graham Barton, OL, Duke – A Grade
    One-Year Grade: C- Grade

Graham Barton had some decent performances as Tampa Bay’s starting center, but he struggled for the most part. He wasn’t too bad in pass protection, but struggled in run blocking. He also botched a snap at the end of the playoff game versus the Redskins, which was a factor in Tampa Bay’s loss.

    Original Write-up:

I’m listing Graham Barton as “OL” because he can play tackle, guard and center. This is going to be very useful for the Buccaneers, who have immense problems in the interior of the offensive line. I thought Barton would go a bit earlier than this, so I like the value.

  11. Houston Texans NFL Draft 2024 Arizona Cardinals: Darius Robinson, DT, Missouri – B+ Grade
    One-Year Grade: D Grade

Darius Robinson missed the first 12 weeks of the season with an injury. He played about half the snaps from Week 13 onward. He struggled mightily, so the 1-year re-grade has to be much lower than the original grade. I won’t fail Robinson because he may have been playing hurt, so I don’t think we can make a fair assessment on him yet.

    Original Write-up:

The Cardinals wanted Jordan Morgan or Darius Robinson with this pick. Morgan was off the board, so Robinson it is. Robinson will help fill a huge need for the Cardinals, who lost so much talent on the defensive line in recent years. Robinson is effective at rushing the passer, so he’ll help stop the Rams and 49ers passing offenses.

  12. Kansas City Chiefs Kansas City Chiefs: Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas – C+ Grade
    One-Year Grade: A Grade

Xavier Worthy struggled in the first half of the season. The Chiefs constantly tried to find ways to get him the ball, and he would constantly disappoint. However, the switched flipped for Worthy in the second half of the year. He suddenly became a dynamic play-maker who put together some stellar performances.

    Original Write-up:

No one should be surprised that the Chiefs selected a receiver. It was already a need before Rashee Rice got into trouble. However, I don’t see why the Chiefs needed to trade up for Worthy. There are so many solid receivers still available, and almost all of them would have been available at No. 32, so a trade like this doesn’t seem very necessary.

  13. Dallas Cowboys Dallas Cowboys: Tyler Guyton, OT, Oklahoma – A+ Grade
    One-Year Grade: F Grade

Tyler Guyton had an awful rookie year. It’s too early to give up on him because he’s athletic and has some potential, but he played like a colossal bust last season.

    Original Write-up:

This was a sharp move by the Cowboys. With Troy Fautanu gone, the Cowboys liked Tyler Guyton and Graham Barton the most as candidates for No. 24 overall. They could have taken either there, but they moved down five spots and acquired most assets, and yet they still got their man. This was excellent drafting after last year’s debacle.

  14. Baltimore Ravens Baltimore Ravens: Nate Wiggins, CB, Clemson – B Grade
    One-Year Grade: A Grade

The Ravens had some severe issues at cornerback last year, but don’t blame Nate Wiggins. The Clemson product didn’t become a full-time player until Week 6, but he thrived in the second half of the season. He was especially great in the final four weeks of the season, though he did have the luxury of battling some bad quarterbacks in that span.

    Original Write-up:

Nate Wiggins is a talented player who could have gone earlier than this. He also fills a big need for the Ravens’ declining cornerback group. However, my concern is that Wiggins is a bit brittle, so he comes with some risk. I actually thought he might fall as a result, and I’m a bit surprised that he was chosen over Kool-Aid McKinstry.

  15. San Francisco 49ers San Francisco 49ers: Ricky Pearsall, WR, Florida – C Grade
    One-Year Grade: A- Grade

I almost gave this pick an incomplete because Ricky Pearsall missed a chunk of the season after getting shot in August. Pearsall was able to take the field for the first time in Week 7. He didn’t have a very big role until the final three weeks of the season, but that’s when he really took off and put together some big performances. Between Jauan Jennings and Pearsall, the 49ers have to feel optimistic that they can replace Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel next year.

    Original Write-up:

I guess Brandon Aiyuk is on the move. The 49ers drafting a receiver is not a surprise, but Ricky Pearsall in the first round is something I haven’t seen. I don’t hate this value, but I think it’s a bit too early for Pearsall. I wish San Francisco would have traded down instead.

  16. Carolina Panthers Carolina Panthers: Xavier Legette, WR, South Carolina – A- Grade
    One-Year Grade: C+ Grade

Xavier Legette looked like he could become a No. 2 possession receiver in the NFL, but his lack of explosiveness and separation skills hurt him. He also cost the Panthers a victory against the Eagles with a drop late in the game.

    Original Write-up:

Xavier Legette said he would be taken by the Panthers. He also said he visited Carolina four times, somehow. It was all true, as Legette is a great selection by the Panthers. Wide receiver was a huge need, even with Diontae Johnson on the team. Legette will try to help turn around Bryce Young’s disappointing career.
