Live 2020 NFL Draft Grades: Round 6

These Live 2020 NFL Draft Grades will be posted minutes after each pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Follow @walterfootball for updates.

2020 NFL Draft Grades - Round: Picks 1-16 | Picks 17-32 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | NFL Draft Team Grades

  1. Cincinnati Bengals: Hakeem Adeniji, G, Kansas – B+ Grade
Hakeem Adeniji will have to move to guard in the NFL, but that’s fine because the Bengals need help at that spot. Adeniji makes sense in this range, so I like this pick because Cincinnati had to improve its offensive line.

  2. Denver Broncos: Netane Muti, G, Fresno State – A+ Grade
Netane Muti is a medical nightmare. He would’ve been a second- or third-round pick if healthy, but he has some major health issues. Let’s hope he can play in the NFL. Either way, this is a swing-for-the-fences pick, which I love in the sixth round.

  3. New England Patriots: Michael Onwenu, G, Michigan – B Grade
Michael Onwenu is a massive run-blocking offensive lineman (6-3, 344). He should help open up some running lanes for Sony Michel. He’s a decent pick at this spot.

  4. New York Giants: Cameron Brown, LB, Penn State – C- Grade
I’m not interested in linebackers with poor instincts. Cameron Brown is a good athlete, but he’ll be lost on defense, so he’ll have to stick to special teams.

  5. Carolina Panthers: Bravvion Roy, DT, Baylor – D- Grade
I’m stumped. I didn’t have this guy on any list anywhere. Is this a joke? Did the Panthers do this to protest ESPN’s horrible draft coverage? I don’t know.

  6. Miami Dolphins: Blake Ferguson, LS, LSU – O’BRIEN Grade
Drafting a long snapper is a Bill O’Brien-type move. Let’s just move on.

  7. Los Angeles Chargers: Alohi Gilman, S, Notre Dame – B Grade
Alohi Gilman is an inconsistent tackler and cover player, but he has enough potential to be worth a sixth-round pick. This is a solid choice.

  8. Cleveland Browns: Donovan Peoples-Jones, WR, Michigan – D Grade
I’ve seen some people freaking out on Twitter about why Donovan Peoples-Jones hasn’t been drafted yet, and I’m wondering why because I never placed him in a mock draft. Peoples-Jones is just an athlete. He’s a horrific football player. He shouldn’t have been drafted.

  9. Buffalo Bills: Tyler Bass, K, Georgia Southern – C Grade
I’m more OK with a kicker in the sixth round, especially when it’s one of the top two players at the “position.” Still, this is meh.

  10. Jacksonville Jaguars: Jake Luton, QB, Oregon State – B+ Grade
Jake Luton was a hot name as the draft approached, and Charlie Campbell listed him in the stock report, I believe. Luton has a good chance to be a high-end backup in the NFL, which is what the Jaguars will need behind Trevor Lawrence in 2021 and beyond.

  11. San Francisco 49ers: Charlie Woerner, TE, Georgia – D Grade
Charlie Woerner had just nine catches in 2019, so I imagine the 49ers are looking at him as a special-teamer and a deep backup. This is someone they could’ve obtained as a UDFA.

  12. New York Jets: Braden Mann, P, Texas A&M – O’BRIEN Grade
Stop drafting punters before Round 7. Please. And no, Rich Eisen, punters are not people, too. They’re horrible abominations.

  13. Green Bay Packers: Jon Runyan Jr., G/OT, Michigan – B Grade
Jon Runyan Jr. performed well at the combine, and I eventually moved him into the seventh round. He has some potential to becoming a starter, and he has versatility, so I like this pick for the Packers. Finally.

  14. Indianapolis Colts: Robert Windsor, DT, Penn State – B+ Grade
We’ll see if Robert Windsor can become an every-down player, but he should be an effective pass rusher on passing downs. He has some nice potential, so this is a solid selection.

  15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Khalil Davis, DT, Nebraska – B Grade
Khalil Davis was an excellent tester at the combine, so he put himself on the map. He has potential for sure, so I like this upside pick in the sixth round.

  16. New England Patriots: Justin Herron, OT/G, Wake Forest – B+ Grade
No one should be shocked that Bill Belichick drafted an offensive lineman who happens to be versatile. Justin Herron is a good athlete with plenty of potential, so this might just be a steal.

  17. Philadelphia Eagles: Shaun Bradley, LB, Temple – A- Grade
This is a bad vibe for Philly fans because Shawn Bradley was a huge bust for the 76ers. Shaun Bradley should be better though. Bradley had speed concerns, but he answered those at the combine. Given the Eagles’ issues at linebacker, I could see him cracking the starting lineup at some point.

  18. Detroit Lions: John Penisini, DT, Utah – B Grade
John Penisini is a quality pass rusher who has good technique, so he makes sense here in the sixth round, though I didn’t have him drafted. The athleticism isn’t good, but Penisini could end up being a fine rotational player.

  19. Pittsburgh Steelers: Antoine Brooks, LB/S, Maryland – A Grade
This is a nice bargain, as I think Antoine Brooks could’ve been chosen in the fourth round. Brooks is a bit of a tweener, but he’s an excellent tackler who should be able to help Pittsburgh in run support. Coverage might be an issue, but he can play two downs.

  20. Los Angeles Rams: Jordan Fuller, S, Ohio State – B+ Grade
The Rams needed a backup safety, and Jordan Fuller is a fine option in the sixth round. He’s a tough player, but his instincts need to improve. Still, he has potential, so he’s a decent selection.

  21. Philadelphia Eagles: Quez Watkins, WR, Southern Miss – B+ Grade
Nothing will make up for the worst draft pick we’ve seen in 20 or more years, but the Eagles made a nice selection with Quez Watkins in the sixth round. Watkins is a terrific athlete with loads of potential. It wouldn’t surprise me if he eventually became a starter.

  22. Baltimore Ravens: James Proche, WR, SMU – A+ Grade
The Ravens are owning the 2020 NFL Draft. They just traded up to acquire a steal in James Proche. I imagine Proche dropped because of injury concerns, but he’s a terrific route runner who should be able to contribute sometime soon for Baltimore.

  23. Arizona Cardinals: Evan Weaver, LB, California – B Grade
Evan Weaver is a very smart and instinctive linebacker. Unfortunately, he may not have the athleticism to make it in the NFL. He should be able to help on special teams, at the very least. I wouldn’t bet against Weaver though, so I think this is a fine choice.

  24. Minnesota Vikings: Blake Brandel, G, Oregon State – C- Grade
I didn’t have Blake Brandel as a draftable prospect, but we’re in the middle of Round 6, so this isn’t the worst pick. I’m all for helping Kirk Cousins because he needs all the aid he can get.

  25. New England Patriots: Caash Malula, LB, Wyoming – BELICHICK’S DOG Grade
Caash Malula is not on my list anywhere, and I have more than 600 people on my list. I’m not even sure if he’s a real person. Nice try, Bill Belichick’s dog.

  26. Minnesota Vikings: Josh Metellus, S, Michigan – B Grade
It made sense for the Vikings to add some insurance for Anthony Harris. Josh Metellus will get torched in coverage, but he’s a tough tackler who plays the run well. He projects to be a solid backup.

  27. Jacksonville Jaguars: Tyler Davis, TE, Georgia Tech – C- Grade
I was hoping the Jaguars would add a better tight end for Trevor Lawrence, but it’s hard to be optimistic about this pick. I didn’t have Tyler Davis as a draftable prospect, so he could’ve been obtained as a UDFA.

  28. Buffalo Bills: Isaiah Hodgins, WR, Oregon State – C+ Grade
I don’t know if Isaiah Hodgins can beat NFL coverage, but he’s a huge target at 6-4, 210, and he has nice ball skills. There’s some potential here, so I don’t hate the pick, but Buffalo may have a receiving corps that’s too crowded for Hodgins.

  29. Green Bay Packers: Jake Hanson, C, Oregon – A Grade
I like this pick for the Packers, so they’ve finally rebounded. It’s too late, unfortunately. Nevertheless, Jake Hanson is a solid center who can eventually emerge as a starter if he improves his strength.

  30. Green Bay Packers: Simon Stepaniak, OT/G, Indiana – B Grade
The Packers continue to bolster their offensive line depth well with a player who is versatile. Simon Stepaniak can play guard or right tackle, and he projects as a good run blocker. Pass protection must improve, so he’s a project.

  31. Philadelphia Eagles: Prince Tega Wanogho, OT, Auburn – A+ Grade
Prince Tega Wanogho – who is an actual prince – would have been chosen much earlier in the 2020 NFL Draft had there not been any injury concerns. You could say he’s a risk, but aren’t most draft picks risks? I love taking the chance on someone so talented in Round 6.

  32. Indianapolis Colts: Isaiah Rodgers, CB, UMass – B- Grade
The Colts needed cornerback help, and Isaiah Rodgers fits the range as a decent slot corner. This is a semi-decent pick.

  33. Indianapolis Colts: Dezmon Patmon, WR, Washington State – B- Grade
Dezmon Patmon is an athletic freak, but never lived up to his potential at Washington State. Perhaps Patmon will improve if he’s coached up very well, but we’ll see if his heart is in the game. I’m fine with taking a shot on someone like Patmon at this juncture.

  34. Indianapolis Colts: Jordan Glasgow, LB/S, Michigan – C+ Grade
Jordan Glasgow has no home on defense, as he’s a tweener. However, he was dynamic on special teams at Michigan, which is why the Colts chose him at the end of the sixth round. I’m OK with taking special teams-only players this late. It’s not exciting, but Glasgow can contribute on fourth down.

  35. Seattle Seahawks: Freddie Swain, WR, Florida – C+ Grade
Freddie Swain has some decent athleticism and size, but he’s a horrid route runner. I get that the Seahawks needed some receiving depth, but they could’ve done better than this.
