2023 NFL Mock Draft: Round 1 – Picks 17-32

Last update: Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021.

The order of this 2023 NFL Mock Draft is random. First-round picks from the 2021 NFL Mock Draft and 2022 NFL Mock Draft have been factored into the picks.

Because these prospects are entering college, I had our Senior College Football Recruiting Analyst Corey Long write the blurbs on each player. You can check out our College Football Recruiting Rankings via this link.

  1. Detroit Lions: Justin Flowe, LB, Oregon
2021 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/16): Ja’Marr Chase, WR
2022 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/12): Tyler Shough, QB; Jalen Green, CB

Jamie Collins was just a temporary solution at linebacker. The Lions need an answer for the long haul.

Justin Flowe is how you draw up your perfect inside linebacker. He goes downhill and leaves nothing behind when it comes to delivering big hits. Normally, a player with the physical talents of Flowe doesn’t always have the mentality to play hard, but Flowe seems to play every snap like his life depended on it.

Flowe’s motor shows when he makes big plays in the backfield or on backside pursuit when he has to track a play down from behind. He had back-to-back seasons of over 100 tackles at Upland (California) High School. Flowe will improve his all-around game at Oregon and should be one of the best linebackers in the nation going into the 2022 season.

  2. Dallas Cowboys: Jordan Burch, DE/DT, South Carolina
2021 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/16): Rashawn Slater, OT/G/C
2022 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/12): Drake Jackson, DT

The Cowboys have a defensive line that could use multiple upgrades.

The incredible top-end depth of the 2020 recruiting class in terms of defensive linemen strikes again. In any other season, Jordan Burch is probably the first or second defensive linemen off the board. He might be the fifth or sixth in the 2023 NFL Draft and he could still go in the first 25 picks.

Burch has the size, frame and length to be a traditional 4-3 defensive end if he can keep his weight at 280 or below but I think he’s too good of a run defender not to kick to the inside. Burch also has spent some time at running back and has plus-level speed that translates over to defense, especially with his quick first step.

  3. Houston Texans: Kelee Ringo, CB, Georgia
2021 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/16): None
2022 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/12): Sam Howell, QB

If Bill O’Brien were still running things, he would consider trading this pick for Rex Burkhead. He’s gone, so perhaps the Texans will finally obtain the cornerback help they have needed ever since A.J. Bouye departed.

A big big athlete at cornerback and he’ll likely get even bigger and considerably stronger in a college weight room program. Ringo’s length and size are great, but it’s his ability to run that puts him at the top of the list. His reported 4.47 in the 40-yard dash and 10.54 in the 100 meters is a difference maker on a 6-foot-2, 205-pound frame.

Ringo’s size and speed make him a pain for larger receivers used to having their way physically with cornerbacks. He’s a monster in man coverage and likes to play close to his man and stick. Ringo has plus level ball skills as well. The physicality and athleticism is going to put Ringo over the top in this class of cornerbacks.

Ringo missed all of 2020 with an injury, but he’s a likely starter heading into 2021.

  4. Green Bay Packers: Rakim Jarrett, WR, Maryland
2021 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/16): Terrace Marshall Jr., WR
2022 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/12): Kaiir Elam, CB

The Packers could double up on receivers, given their huge issues at the position.

Rakim Jarrett has scheme versatility to be a big slot receiver or work on the outside. Jarrett is a strong athlete, good luck trying to jam him. He can make the big plays and the routine catches. Jarrett has great hands and is very competitive.

  5. New York Giants: Nick Broeker, OT/G, Ole Miss
2021 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/16): Jaylen Waddle, WR
2022 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/12): Zach Harrison, DE

The Giants need to make sure their pass protection can hold up for Daniel Jones.

Nick Broeker made his debut in the Rebels’ season opener against Memphis and didn’t look back, playing 474 snaps as a true freshman and allowed just one sack all season. He was the best blocker on the field against LSU in Week 10 and helped the Rebels rush for 447 yards against LSU. Broeker made a host of Freshman All-American teams. Size may see him be projected as an interior blocker in the NFL, but he’s going to be off the board early.

  6. Miami Dolphins: Zachary Evans, RB, TCU
2021 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/16): DeVonta Smith, WR; Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB
2022 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/12): Charles Cross, OT

The Dolphins don’t have a great running game, so they could spend a first-round pick on a running back in the near future.

I feel confident in my belief that Zachary Evans will leave school after his junior year since he hasn’t even decided which school he’s going to play for in college. Evans was clearly the most talented of the running backs in the 2020 recruiting class, but he was also one of the bigger mysteries. He rushed for over 1,500 yards as a senior despite being suspended for multiple games. He endedd up rushing for 415 yards on just 54 carries for TCU in his freshman year.

  7. Seattle Seahawks: Alex Wright, DE/OLB, UAB
2021 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/16): None
2022 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/12): None

The Seahawks don’t have any sort of pass rush, so they’ll need to address that soon.

Alex Wright came on late in the season for the Blazers, but did enough to lead all Conference-USA freshmen in tackles for loss and sacks. He had 8.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks with two fumble recoveries without the benefit of full-time starter snaps. That’s going to change for Wright as a sophomore, as he’ll be on the field a lot and a likely candidate to have multiple seasons with double-digit sacks.

  8. Los Angeles Chargers: Sav’ell Smalls, OLB, Washington
2021 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/16): Alijah Vera-Tucker, OT
2022 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/12): Aidan Hutchinson, DE

Melvin Ingram is entering free agency soon, so the Chargers may need a new edge rusher to pair with Joey Bosa.

Ask five different people and you’ll get five different opinions of where Smalls’ best fit is on a football field. I think he can get to the quarterback as a stand-up guy off the edge or with his hand in the ground. He’s got the best first step of any prospect in the 2020 recruiting class.

Smalls has also played linebacker and tight end, so he’s got a lot of additional skills that will make him one of the most versatile players in college football and a very attractive draft choice for a team rebuilding on defense and looking for a centerpiece.

  9. Chicago Bears: Harry Miller, OG/OC, Ohio State
2021 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/16): Christian Darrisaw, OT
2022 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/12): George Pickens, WR

Chicago’s poor offensive line needs multiple upgrades over the next few offseasons.

Harry Miller played 181 snaps as a true freshman backing up Josh Myers, but then made starts at both guard and center in 2020. Miller has the ability to lineup anywhere from right tackle inward, if necessary.

  10. Denver Broncos: Bryce Young, QB, Alabama
2021 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/16): Caleb Farley, CB
2022 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/12): DeMarvin Leal, DE/DT

The Broncos tried to trade for Matthew Stafford, so they’re obviously not very pleased with Drew Lock.

Bryce Young’s size (5-11, 197) could hurt his draft stock, but that ultimately didn’t matter for Kyler Murray. If Young has a great collegiate career like Murray, he’ll likely end up in the first round of the NFL Draft.

  11. San Francisco 49ers: Trey Wedig, OT, Wisconsin
2021 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/16): Trey Lance, QB
2022 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/12): Sevyn Banks, CB

Trent Williams won’t be around by the 2023 NFL Draft, so the 49ers will need a long-term solution on the blind side.

Trey Wedig had one of best 20-yard shuttles of any offensive linemen in the 2020 recruiting class, which shows the foot quickness, lateral movement and his ability to play low. He is a hulk in the weight room and is built from the lower body up with a massive frame. Put it all together and he will flatten defenders, especially in the run game.

  12. Buffalo Bills: Kendall Milton, RB, Georgia
2021 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/16): Levi Onwuzurike, DT
2022 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/12): Perrion Winfrey, DT

The Bills struggled to run the ball in 2020, so that must change if they want to overtake the Chiefs and their poor ground defense.

Kendall Milton would join the long line of Georgia running backs that have become high draft picks including Todd Gurley, Nick Chubb, Sony Michel and likely D’Andre Swift. Milton rushed for over 3,000 yards in high school and will see the field as a true freshman as part of a platoon of running backs.

Beyond the lineage of being a Georgia running back, Milton is a bigger back and he got a great combination of power and speed. He’s a lot faster than some times have reported him out of high school. Put it all together and he should be a productive back in college and one of the first off the board in the 2023 Draft.

  13. Minnesota Vikings: Pierce Quick, OT, Alabama
2021 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/16): Christian Barmore, DE/DT
2022 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/12): George Karlaftis, DE

Riley Reiff just turned 32, so it’s unlikely he’ll be on the roster by the 2023 NFL Draft. Here’s a new left tackle.

Pierce Quick doesn’t have much playing experience yet, but as a former five-star tackle recruit, he has loads of potential for 2021 and beyond.

  14. Baltimore Ravens: Daxton Hill, S/CB, Michigan
2021 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/16): Alex Leatherwood, OT/G
2022 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/12): Chris Olave, WR

The Ravens have an excellent secondary right now, but their aging veterans will have moved on by the time the 2023 NFL Draft arrives, so here’s a replacement for one of them.

Daxton Hill has played more safety than cornerback at Michigan, and he has become the best player in the Wolverines’ secondary.

  15. New Orleans Saints: Darnell Washington, TE, Georgia
2021 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/16): Jevon Holland, S
2022 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/12): John Metchie, WR

The Saints will try Adam Trautman as their starting tight end in 2021 and beyond. If he fails, they could target an upgrade at this juncture.

Darnell Washington is one of the biggest wild cards out there. He’s a big, impressive athlete that can run extremely well for his size. He’s pretty raw and if can he find himself as a tight end in three years at Georgia, he will be one the great mismatches in college football. If Washington struggles at tight end could he become a top defensive line prospect? Or maybe a high-end left tackle? Very possible because you can’t teach his height, length and 4.7 time in the 40-yard dash. If Washington does what he’s capable of doing in college, he’s a potential first-round pick.

  16. Kansas City Chiefs: Julian Fleming, WR, Ohio State
2021 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/16): Liam Eichenberg, OT
2022 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 2/12): D.J. Dale, DT

Sammy Watkins and Mecole Hardman have been disappointments, so the Chiefs may want to find a new No. 2 receiver.

Julian Fleming has yet to do anything at Ohio State, but he has great size (6-2, 199) and athleticism to emerge as a first-round prospect.
