2014 NFL Mock Draft: Round 4

The order of this 2014 NFL Mock Draft is based on my NFL Power Rankings.

  1. Houston Texans: Jaylen Watkins, CB, Florida
    There are a few areas the Texans need to address outside of the quarterback position. They need to find a new right tackle, upgrade the outside linebacker position and acquire a better nickel.

  2. Washington Redskins: Brandon Coleman, WR, Rutgers
    The Redskins must improve their defense, but they also have to focus on upgrading the receiver position. A No. 2 wideout is needed.

  3. Atlanta Falcons: Daniel McCullers, NT, Tennessee
    The Falcons have three defensive tackles with expiring contracts, including Corey Peters, a run-stuffer who tore his Achilles in December. A replacement is needed.

  4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Anthony Johnson, DT, LSU
    Akeem Spence had a disappointing rookie campaign playing next to Gerald McCoy, capped off by an arrest for marijuana possession. The Buccaneers may want to bring in another interior defensive lineman.



  5. Jacksonville Jaguars: Chris Watt, G, Notre Dame
    The Jaguars have a major hole at left guard, so they’ll have to shore that up to help protect their new quarterback.

  6. Cleveland Browns: Yawin Smallwood, ILB, Connecticut
    The Browns had a great front seven this past season, but the one liability in the group is Craig Robertson, who was abused in coverage. That’s why Cleveland could double up on inside linebackers.

  7. Oakland Raiders: Ka’Deem Carey, RB, Arizona
    The Raiders will need a running back if they lose either Darren McFadden or Rashad Jennings in free agency this spring.

  8. Minnesota Vikings: Charles Sims, RB, West Virginia
    With Toby Gerhart heading for free agency, the Vikings will need to bring in a new running back to spell Adrian Peterson.

  9. Buffalo Bills: Jackson Jeffcoat, DE, Texas
    Jerry Hughes’ great 2013 campaign came out of nowhere. The Bills should probably obtain some insurance just in case it was a fluke. They could use depth at linebacker anyway.

  10. St. Louis Rams: Dakota Dozier, G, Furman
    The Rams already addressed the offensive line, but they’ll have to do something about the guard position if Rodger Saffold isn’t retained.

  11. Detroit Lions: Demarcus Lawrence, DE/OLB, Boise State
    Willie Young is a free agent. If he’s not retained, Detroit will have to find someone to compete with Devin Taylor to rush the passer across from Ziggy Ansah.

  12. Tennessee Titans: Terrance West, RB, Towson
    There have been reports indicating that Chris Johnson will be cut this offseason. If that’s the case, Tennessee will obviously be searching for a new lead running back.

  13. New York Giants: Jordan Tripp, OLB, Montana
    The Giants had major problems in their linebacking corps this past season. They’ve been hesitant to upgrade this group in recent offseasons, but they’ll have to do it soon.

  14. Jacksonville Jaguars: Brent Urban, DE/DT Virginia
    Surprise, surprise, Tyson Alualu struggled at left end in Jacksonville’s new scheme. An upgrade here is needed for the league’s worst pass rush.

  15. New York Jets: Marcus Smith, DE/OLB, Louisville
    The Jets have a great interior pass rush, but they need to become more potent on the outside. Marcus Smith is one of the top players available.

  16. Miami Dolphins: Calvin Barnett, DT, Oklahoma State
    Both Randy Starks and Paul Soliai happen to be impending free agents. The Dolphins will need to re-sign either Starks or Soliai and acquire one more interior lineman for depth.

  17. Chicago Bears: Pierre Desir, CB, Lindenwood
    It shouldn’t surprise anyone if the Bears double dip at the cornerback position considering the issues they had in their secondary last year.

  18. Pittsburgh Steelers: Morgan Breslin, DE/OLB, USC
    The Steelers will be looking to add some pass-rushing depth if they can’t retain Jason Worilds or have to cut LaMarr Woodley.

  19. Dallas Cowboys: Chris Smith, DE/OLB, Arkansas
    The Cowboys need another pass-rusher, so expect them to add a defensive end in the first few rounds of the 2014 NFL Draft.

  20. Arizona Cardinals: Will Clarke, DE/DT, West Virginia
    Darnell Dockett, 33 in May, is due $5.75 million this upcoming season. He’s no longer the pass-rusher he once was, and Arizona lacks a long-term replacement for him.

  21. Green Bay Packers: A.J. McCarron, QB, Alabama
    Mike McCarthy told the media that he wants to draft a quarterback early. Can you blame him after what happened this past season?

  22. Philadelphia Eagles: Terrance Mitchell, CB, Oregon
    Cary Williams hasn’t been very good and will probably be released next offseason (he’s due $6.5 million in 2015), while Bradley Fletcher can’t be counted on to start 16 games in a year.

  23. Cincinnati Bengals: Antonio Richardson, OT, Tennessee
    Like the Panthers, the Bengals are a team that needs a tackle and may take a chance on a talented player with a medical issue.

  24. Kansas City Chiefs: Jerick McKinnon, RB, Georgia Southern
    The Chiefs will be looking to add a running back, as Knile Davis is not expected to be ready for the 2014 season.

  25. San Diego Chargers: Ross Cockrell, CB, Duke
    The Chargers are cutting all of their cornerbacks as I’m writing this, so perhaps they’ll double up on the position in the 2014 NFL Draft.

  26. New Orleans Saints: Ty Zimmerman, S, Kansas State
    Malcolm Jenkins will be a free agent in March, but he’s never lived up to expectations anyway. New Orleans needs to find a better player next to Kenny Vaccaro.

  27. Cleveland Browns: Dontae Johnson, S, N.C. State
    Here’s some secondary help for the Browns, who could use someone to challenge Tashaun Gipson at safety.

  28. Carolina Panthers: Bruce Ellington, WR, South Carolina
    Steve Smith won’t be around much longer, so the Panthers may want to add two receivers this offseason.

  29. San Francisco 49ers: Adrian Hubbard, DE/OLB, Alabama
    The 49ers may want some pass-rushing insurance just in case Aldon Smith gets into trouble again.

  30. New England Patriots: C.J. Fiedeorowicz, TE, Iowa
    With Aaron Hernandez gone forever and Rob Gronkowski coming off a serious knee injury, the Patriots may want to bring in another talented tight end.

  31. Denver Broncos: Rob Herron, WR, Wyoming
    Eric Decker, coming off a great season, is set to hit free agency (go here to check out my 2014 NFL Free Agent Rankings). He could be too rich for Denver’s blood considering all of the money the front office will have dedicated to Wes Welker, Demaryius Thomas and Julius Thomas.

  32. Seattle Seahawks: Billy Turner, OT, North Dakota State
    It doesn’t sound like the Seahawks will be retaining right tackle Breno Giacomini, so here’s a potential replacement.
