2013 NFL Mock Draft: Round 3

Last update: Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013. Major changes in all 4 rounds.
Next update: Next week. Follow me @walterfootball for updates.

You can find the complete seven-round 2013 NFL Draft Order by clicking the link.

  1. Kansas City Chiefs: Margus Hunt, DE/DT, SMU
Glenn Dorsey will be a free agent in March and Tyson Jackson is due more than $14 million next year, so it appears as though their disappointing tenures in Kansas City are coming to an end.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

Pick change; previously Kyle Long, G/OT

  2. Jacksonville Jaguars: Darius Slay, CB, Mississippi State
As mentioned in the Jacksonville Jaguars 2013 NFL Team Needs, there seems to be something wrong with every Jacksonville cornerback. Derek Cox is an injury-prone free agent. Aaron Ross isn’t any good. Rashean Mathis is old. William Middleton is about to hit the market as well. Sixth-round rookie Mike Harris played decently until Tom Brady exposed him in Week 16. The new front office needs to find a new No. 1 cornerback.

Pick change; previously Menelik Watson, OT

  3. Detroit Lions: Travis Frederick, G/C, Wisconsin
Travis Frederick can play any position on the interior of the offensive line, including center. Detroit’s current center, the declining Dominic Raiola, will be due $4.05 million in a 2013 walk year. Help is needed at guard as well, as Stephen Peterman was cut recently.

Pick change; previously Jawan Jamison, RB

  4. Oakland Raiders: Blidi Wreh-Wilson, CB, Connecticut
The Raiders were without their two starting cornerbacks most of this season. Ronald Bartell was released, while Shawntae Spencer just isn’t very good.

  5. Philadelphia Eagles: Robert Alford, CB, Southeastern Louisiana
Brandon Boykin was a nice pick in the fourth round, but he won’t be enough if Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie leaves via free agency, as Philadelphia wants three high-level cornerbacks. Nnamdi Asomugha will probably be cut this spring. He was absolutely terrible.

  6. Cleveland Browns: Tyler Wilson, QB, Arkansas
New regimes mean new quarterbacks, so unless Michael Lombardi trades for Ryan Mallett, he could spend an early selection on a developmental signal-caller.

Pick change; previously Darius Slay, CB

  7. Arizona Cardinals: J.J. Wilcox, S, Georgia Southern
Adrian Wilson has been a great player for the Cardinals for many years, but his tenure in Arizona could be over. Wilson, due $3.5 million in 2013, was demoted out of nickel packages in the second half of the season. The Cardinals could release him, which will open up a big need at strong safety.

  8. Tennessee Titans: Alvin Bailey, G, Arkansas
Chris Johnson seemed to regain CJ2K form toward the end of the season, but that doesn’t mean the Titans can’t use an upgrade or two on the offensive line. Help is needed on the interior.

  9. Buffalo Bills: Jordan Reed, TE, Florida
General manager Buddy Nix recently told the media that he plans on upgrading the tight end position. Expect one of his Day 2 selections to be used on this.

Pick change; previously Corey Lemonier, DE/OLB

  10. New York Jets: Quinton Patton, WR, Louisiana Tech
New York desperately needs an upgrade at wideout for obvious reasons. Santonio Holmes is a bum, while Stephen Hill hasn’t really shown much yet.

  11. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: David Amerson, S/CB, N.C. State
The Buccaneers don’t ever shy away from doubling up on positions. They may do so at cornerback, as this was a huge area of need even before the Aqib Talib trade. David Amerson could play corner or safety once Ronde Barber finally retires.

Pick change; previously Khaseem Greene, LB

  12. San Francisco 49ers: Aaron Dobson, WR, Marshall
Mario Manningham could be released in the coming months. He’s owed close to $4 million in non-guaranteed money, and he’s coming off a torn ACL and PCL that he suffered in late December.

  13. New Orleans Saints: Brandon Williams, NT, Missouri Southern
Another piece for New Orleans’ new 3-4. The Saints could use a long-term solution at nose tackle behind Brodrick Bunkley.

  14. San Diego Chargers: Jawan Jamison, RB, Rutgers
The Chargers will probably be looking for a running back early in the 2013 NFL Draft. This new front office has no ties to Ryan Mathews, who is an injury-prone bust.

Pick change; previously Travis Frederick, G/C

  15. Miami Dolphins: Jordan Poyer, CB, Oregon State
The Dolphins have an extra Day 2 pick because they dealt Vontae Davis to the Colts, so they should probably use one of them on a replacement.

Pick change; previously Jordan Reed, TE

  16. St. Louis Rams: Barrett Jones, G/C/OT, Alabama
The Rams desperately need to upgrade their offensive front. Jeff Fisher played against the Texans twice per year when he was with Tennessee, and he watched Houston completely ruin David Carr’s career by not building a competent offensive line around him. He won’t want to make the same mistake with Sam Bradford.

Pick change; previously David Amerson, S/CB

  17. Pittsburgh Steelers: Montee Ball, RB, Wisconsin
Rashard Mendenhall won’t be back next year and Jonathan Dwyer isn’t viewed as a starter per reports, so the Steelers will need to find a new running back.

Pick change; previously Mike Gillislee, RB

  18. Dallas Cowboys: Brennan Williams, OT, North Carolina
Doug Free is expected to be released sometime soon. The Cowboys need to upgrade the right tackle position.

  19. New York Giants: Logan Ryan, CB, Rutgers
Prince Amukamara looks like the real deal, but the Giants need help across from him. Corey Webster, who was torched often this past year, will likely be cut this spring because he’ll be due $7 million in 2013.

  20. Miami Dolphins: Justin Pugh, G/OT, Syracuse
Justin Pugh has dinosaur arms, so he might be forced into playing guard. That’s fine for the Dolphins because they need help at both right tackle (if Jake Long leaves) and right guard.

Pick change; previously Stedman Bailey, WR

  21. Minnesota Vikings: Bacarri Rambo, S, Georgia
As noted in my Minnesota Vikings NFL Offseason Needs, Harrison Smith deserves Rookie of the Year consideration, but he’s the only talented safety on Minnesota’s roster.

  22. Cincinnati Bengals: Tyrann Mathieu, CB, LSU
Nate Clements will be a free agent in March, while Terence Newman won’t be around much longer. The Bengals will need a more permanent solution to go along with Leon Hall and Dre Kirkpatrick.

Pick change; previously T.J. McDonald, S

  23. Washington Redskins: David Bakhtiari, OT, Colorado
As written in my Washington Redskins NFL Offseason Needs, the biggest hole on Washington’s front is easily right tackle. Jammal Brown is always hurt, while backup Tyler Polumbus performed miserably in his absence.

  24. Indianapolis Colts: Corey Lemonier, DE/OLB, Auburn
Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis won’t be around much longer. The Colts need to find new players who can rush the passer.

Pick change; previously Jordan Poyer, CB

  25. Seattle Seahawks: Marquise Goodwin, WR/KR, Texas
The Seahawks’ receiving corps really needs to be upgraded. Sidney Rice is constantly laboring through injuries and has struggled to get any sort of separation for most of the season. Golden Tate, meanwhile, is way too inconsistent, though he was better at the end of the season. Russell Wilson kept improving every week, so Pete Carroll needs to bolster his wideout corps.

Pick change; previously Gavin Escobar, TE

  26. Green Bay Packers: David Quessenberry, G/C/OT, San Jose State
Can anyone explain why Jeff Saturday was voted to the Pro Bowl? He didn’t even start at the end of the season. The Packers had major problems at center after letting Scott Wells walk away, so they’ll have to address that area this spring. Ted Thompson will like David Quessenberry’s versatility, as the San Jose State product can play every position up front, including center.

  27. Houston Texans: Cobi Hamilton, WR, Arkansas
The Texans have needed a No. 2 receiver for years, but now that Andre Johnson is into his 30s, it won’t be long before they have to secure a new No. 1 wideout for Matt Schaub.

  28. Denver Broncos: Everett Dawkins, DT, Florida State
The Broncos spent a second-rounder last April on Derek Wolfe, but he played defensive end and moved inside on nickel situations. That’s why Denver still needs a ton of help at defensive tackle.

  29. New England Patriots: Tyler Bray, QB, Tennessee
The Patriots have used a third-round pick on a troubled but talented SEC quarterback before. There’s talk that Bill Belichick could trade Ryan Mallett to Michael Lombardi, so if that happens, New England may search for another project at the signal-caller position.

  30. Atlanta Falcons: Mike Gillislee, RB, Florida
Despite how he performed against the Seahawks in the playoffs, Michael Turner is done. He looked like he was running in quicksand for most of this past season, so he won’t be on the roster much longer at his enormous salary.

Pick change; previously Marquise Goodwin, WR/KR

  31. San Francisco 49ers: Leon McFadden, CB, San Diego State
Teams are always looking for cornerback depth, especially if they have extra picks. Besides, Carlos Rogers didn’t play as well this past season. He was solid at times, but was inconsistent.

Pick change; previously Tyrann Mathieu, CB

  32. Baltimore Ravens: Da’Rick Rogers, WR, Tennessee Tech
The Ravens take chances on players like Da’Rick Rogers. If Rogers stays out of trouble, he could be a solid weapon for Joe Flacco. The expensive Anquan Boldin will be entering his contract year and will have to be replaced soon.
