*** 2021 NFL MOCK DRAFT updated Jan. 2. This mock draft will be updated occasionally. Follow @walterfootball for NFL Draft updates. ***
  1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
The Jaguars were gifted the No. 1 overall pick due to the Jets’ incompetence. This was a franchise-altering turn of events that even had the mayor of Jacksonville thanking the Jets via Twitter. The Jaguars have clinched the No. 1 overall pick, and it’ll be an obvious one. The Gardner Minshew experience was fun, but it’s sadly coming to an end. Minshew is a feisty quarterback, but will be relegated to backup duties because he can’t throw passes longer than 15 yards.

Trevor Lawrence is locked in as the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He has it all, and that includes size (6-6, 215), a big arm, accuracy and mobility.

  2. New York Jets: Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State
The Jets made a very foolish decision to beat the Rams (and the Browns.) Now, they have a dilemma. Do they select the second-best quarterback in the class or stick with Sam Darnold? Considering that Darnold has shown no signs of becoming a franchise quarterback and has admitted to “seeing ghosts,” it would be best to trade him, especially given that New York will have to pay him a large contract to retain him. It would be smart to move him for a second- or third-round pick.

Justin Fields made the egregious mistake of committing to a program with a talented, young quarterback in Jake Fromm, so he was blocked from starting. Fields, however, was able to transfer to Ohio State, where he dominated in his first season. He continued his strong play into the shortened 2020 campaign, aside from sloppy performances against Indiana and Northwestern.

  3. Miami Dolphins: Penei Sewell, OT, Oregon
The Dolphins need to protect Tua Tagovailoa to aid his development. They spent a first-round pick on a tackle last year, but that was a later selection in the opening frame, and Jackson doesn’t project as an elite player.

Penei Sewell was so good as a sophomore, he received a second-place Heisman vote.

Pick change; previously Micah Parsons, LB

  4. Atlanta Falcons: Gregory Rousseau, DE, Miami
The Falcons have needed to improve their pass rush for years. They need help on their defensive line, whether that’s in the interior or on the edge.

Gregory Rousseau logged double-digit sacks as a redshirt freshman in 2019. He was compared to Calais Campbell entering Miami.

  5. Cincinnati Bengals: Ja’Marr Chase, WR, LSU
Joe Burrow had a great rookie year prior to his injury. The Bengals must build around him, and they could upgrade every position except running back with this selection. That includes receiver, as A.J. Green won’t be on the roster next year. Cincinnati’s offense would be very explosive with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins on the outside and Tyler Boyd in the slot.

Chase caught 17 passes in his freshman year, then took a huge step forward in 2019, displaying the ability of a top-10 prospect.

Pick change; previously Penei Sewell, OT

  6. Philadelphia Eagles: Jaycee Horn, CB, South Carolina
The Eagles have some obvious problems on defense. They’ve been poor against the pass for years. They’ve tried different No. 1 cornerbacks, but it’s time for a permanent solution.

Jaycee Horn is a fast, fluid athlete. Team sources have told Charlie Campbell that Horn is a better prospect than his teammate, Israel Mukuamu.

  7. Detroit Lions: Kwity Paye, DE/DT, Michigan
The Lions need to address every position on defense, and this includes the front line, which took a hit with some offseason losses prior to 2020.

Kwity Paye has a chance to move into the upper half of the first round; he’s shown some upside in his only year as a starter.

Pick change; previously Carlos Basham, DE/DT

  8. New York Giants: DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama
The Giants have a bunch of secondary and tertiary options at receiver. They need a No. 1 target to help Daniel Jones’ development.

DeVonta Smith is an excellent route runner with great hands and tremendous run-after-catch ability.

Pick change; previously Rashawn Slater, OT

  9. Carolina Panthers: Kyle Pitts, TE, Florida
Both Robby Anderson and Curtis Samuel are impending free agents. The Panthers will need some new weapons to pair with Teddy Bridgewater.

Kyle Pitts is a matchup nightmare, as he’s too fast for linebackers and too big for safeties.

Pick change; previously Ja’Marr Chase, WR

  10. Denver Broncos: Micah Parsons, LB, Penn State
The Broncos have been looking for a stud linebacker for years. They could finally address that need in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Looking like the next great linebacker to come out of Penn State, Micah Parsons was very productive. That was not a surprise, as Parsons was a highly athletic five-star recruit.

Pick change; previously Christian Darrisaw, OT

  11. Dallas Cowboys: Carlos Basham, DE/DT, Wake Forest
The Cowboys have dealt with numerous injuries this year, which is part of the reason they’ve struggled so much defensively. However, they still need an injection of talent, and a dynamic pass rusher would go a long way in helping the secondary.

Carlos Basham always stuffed the run well, but his pass rush improved tremendously from 2018 to 2019.

Pick change; previously Kwity Paye, DE/DT

  12. Los Angeles Chargers: Alijah Vera-Tucker, OT, USC
The Chargers need to protect Justin Herbert as well as possible. They have a huge hole at left tackle that must be addressed.

Alijah Vera-Tucker made a great decision to opt back in to the season. He has played extremely well at left tackle for the Trojans.

  13. Minnesota Vikings: Christian Barmore, DE/DT, Alabama
The Vikings need as much defensive help as possible. They have to bolster their defensive line to replace some recent departures.

Christian Barmore has nice length, quickness and athleticism.

Pick change; previously Carlos Basham, DE/DT

  14. New England Patriots: Zach Wilson, QB, BYU
Bill Belichick needs to solve his quarterback dilemma. He didn’t draft a quarterback last year, so he almost has to this April.

Zach Wilson is a smart quarterback with decent arm talent. However, there are off-the-field and injury issues. Go here to read about Teams Having Concerns with Zach Wilson.

Pick change; previously Jaylen Waddle, WR

  15. San Francisco 49ers: Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama
The 49ers have some excellent cornerbacks, but with Richard Sherman and Jason Verrett entering free agency, help will likely be needed at the position.

Son of former Dolphins star cornerback Patrick Surtain Sr., Surtain II was tested early by teams, yet was able to punish opponents for doing so. The 6-foot-2 cornerback projects as a top-15 pick in the future.

  16. Las Vegas Raiders: Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB, Notre Dame
It was shocking that the Raiders didn’t select Patrick Queen at No. 19 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. Perhaps they’ll obtain a linebacker here instead.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah is a fast linebacker who has drawn comparisons to Telvin Smith, per Charlie Campbell’s sources.
