*** 2020 NFL MOCK DRAFT (1 round) updated May 1. This mock draft will be updated occasionally. Check out old versions of this 2020 NFL Mock Draft in the archived mock section. Follow @walterfootball for NFL Draft updates. ***

  1. Miami Dolphins: Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama
The Dolphins have made it known that they are tanking. Miami is the worst team in my NFL Power Rankings, which is why it’s atop the 2020 NFL Draft. It acquired Josh Rosen, but that doesn’t matter. Teams have selected plenty of first-round quarterbacks after using a pick in the second frame on a signal-caller the year before. The Cardinals even established precedent for doing so with consecutive first-rounders!

The hero of the national championship against Georgia, Tua Tagovailoa has a big arm and scrambling ability, and will undoubtedly draw comparisons to Russell Wilson.

  2. Cincinnati Bengals: Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia
It was reported that the Bengals tried to trade up for Greg “Mr. Reliable” Little in the second round, but they were beaten out by the Panthers in that regard. They clearly want an upgrade at tackle, so here it is.

Andrew Thomas has been very impressive, using his great athleticism and length. NFL personnel believe he has tremendous potential.

Pick change; previously Trey Smith, OT

  3. New York Giants: Jerry Jeudy, WR, Alabama
The Giants inexplicably traded Odell Beckham Jr. to the Browns, so they’ll obviously need a replacement. There was no dynamic No. 1 receiver in the 2019 NFL Draft class, but there currently project to be two next April (possibly three if Tarik Black can remain healthy for once.)

Jerry Jeudy is a height-weight-speed freak in the mold of a Julio Jones. He’s the next great Alabama receiver, and if he performs up to his skill set, he’ll have a great chance to be a top-10 pick.

  4. Detroit Lions: Derrick Brown, DE/DT, Auburn
The Lions continue to rebuild their horrific front seven. They added a stud in Trey Flowers in free agency and Jahlani Tavai and Austin Bryant in the 2019 NFL Draft. Obtaining a stud like this would take the front seven over the top.

Derrick Brown has great size (6-5, 316) and tons of upside. He can be a great interior disruptor if he lives up to his potential. He had a chance to be a top-five pick (No. 4 overall?) in the 2019 NFL Draft before he returned to school.

  5. Las Vegas Raiders: Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon
Jon Gruden didn’t address his quarterback situation at all in the 2019 NFL Draft. Perhaps he had an eye on the 2020 class, which is far superior at the position (and overall as well.)

Justin Herbert had an up-and-down 2018 season, which included a great performance against Stanford. He was considered the top quarterback prospect for the 2019 NFL Draft before making the mistake of returning to school, where he’ll risk injury and regression.

Pick change; previously Jake Fromm, QB

  6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jake Fromm, QB, Georgia
The Buccaneers will give Jameis Winston one more chance this season. If he continues to play very inconsistently under Bruce Arians, or if he continues to grope Uber drivers, he won’t be back for 2020. Given that Tampa landed the No. 6 pick in this 2020 NFL Mock Draft, it’s safe to say that in this scenario, Winston did one of the two. If so, Tampa will move on from him.

Jake Fromm was tremendous as a rookie for SEC champion Georgia. He has a great skill set and was the very early favorite to be the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He struggled versus LSU, but that doesn’t appear to be a downward trend.

Pick change; previously Justin Herbert, QB

  7. Baltimore Ravens: A.J. Epenesa, DE/OLB, Iowa
The Ravens selected Marquise Brown in the opening round of the 2019 NFL Draft, but I get the sense that they were hoping Clelin Ferrell would fall to them. They need to find replacements for Terrell Suggs and Za’Darius Smith.

A.J. Epenesa was a five-star recruit who showed some major promise as a freshman, registering 4.5 sacks. He was excellent in 2018.

Pick change; previously Laviska Shenault, WR

  8. Arizona Cardinals: Walker Little, OT, Stanford
Another quarterback? Meh, maybe not. Instead, the Cardinals may want to protect their new franchise signal-caller. Right tackle Marcus Gilbert is just a temporary solution, while left tackle D.J. Humphries struggles to stay healthy.

Walker Little was the 25th-overall player in his recruiting class. An athletic tackle who is proficient in both pass protection and run blocking, Little could be a top-five pick in the future.

Pick change; previously Andrew Thomas, OT

  9. Buffalo Bills: Laviska Shenault, WR, Colorado
The Bills signed some solid wide receivers in free agency, but wanted to find a No. 1 target for Josh Allen. The problem was that this sort of player didn’t exist in the 2019 class. That’s hardly the case in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Laviska Shenault drew rave reviews during spring practices preceding the 2018 campaign, and he didn’t disappoint. The 6-foot-2 play-maker was college football’s best receiver as a mere sophomore (at least prior to his injury.)

Pick change; previously A.J. Epenesa, DE/OLB

  10. Denver Broncos: Grant Delpit, S, LSU
The Broncos have some excellent aspects of their defense, but they’re weak in the middle. They need linebacker and safety help.

Grant Delpit is an exceptional talent who figures to be a top-10 prospect when he declares.

  11. San Francisco 49ers: Isaiah Simmons, S, Clemson
The 49ers came away with a solid draft class, save for the fact that they didn’t address their horrid secondary until the sixth round. Perhaps they’re aware that the corners and safeties in the 2020 class are far superior to those in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Isaiah Simmons flew all around the field and was a physical presence for Clemson this year.

Pick change; previously Tarik Black, WR

  12. Carolina Panthers: Raekwon Davis, DE/DT, Alabama
The Panthers found a couple of edge rushers in the 2019 NFL Draft, but they still need an upgrade on their new three-man front.

Raekwon Davis had a dominant performance in the national championship win over Georgia to cap off his excellent 2017 season in which he logged 8.5 sacks.

Pick change; previously Isaiah Simmons, S

  13. Minnesota Vikings: Chase Young, DE, Ohio State
It remains to be seen as to what’ll happen with Everson Griffen. I imagine the Vikings will want to protect themselves in case he has another episode.

Chase Young has enjoyed a breakout season in the wake of Nick Bosa’s injury. He’s a very athletic edge player with great size (6-5, 265).

Pick change; previously Walker Little, OT

  14. Washington Redskins: Albert Okwuegbunam, TE, Missouri
The Redskins will give Jordan Reed one more chance to stay healthy, but I don’t see that happening. I imagine Washington will be interested in the tight end market next offseason.

The athletic Albert Okwuegbunan had a coming-out party against Georgia and should be the first tight end off the board in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Pick change; previously Chase Young, DE

  15. Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevon Diggs, CB, Alabama
Jalen Ramsey has been causing issues in the locker room. If this continues, the Jaguars may trade him and begin the search for a new No. 1 cornerback.

Trevon Diggs, younger brother of Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs, began as a receiver at Alabama, but was tremendous this season at cornerback before suffering a foot injury.

Pick change; previously Raekwon Davis, DE/DT

  16. Houston Texans: Najee Harris, RB, Alabama
The Texans need to give Deshaun Watson better blocking and a superior rushing attack. Lamar Miller can’t handle the workload for an entire season, while D’Onta Foreman is an unknown. Here’s a dynamic backfield mate for Watson.

Najee Harris was one of the top recruits in the country in 2017, and he showed off his talents as a freshman. He’s been tremendous again this season.
