2015 NFL Mock Draft: Round 3

Last update: Wednesday, March 11, 2015.

*** This mock draft will be updated at least once per week (Tuesday afternoons and other times for important events.). Check out old versions of this 2015 NFL Mock Draft in the archived mock draft section. Follow @walterfootball for updates. ***

  1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Nate Orchard, DE/OLB, Utah
Gerald McCoy is the only Buccaneer who put consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks. That needs to change, especially considering the other quarterbacks in the division.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

Pick change; previously Jeremiah Poutasi, OT

  2. Tennessee Titans: Damarious Randall, S, Arizona State
The Titans desperately need to find some help in the secondary at both corner and safety. The latter position is the bigger area of need.

Pick change; previously Nate Orchard, DE/OLB

  3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Hroniss Grasu, C, Oregon
It’s no secret that the Jaguars need help all over their offensive line. That includes the center position, which has been a problem since Brad Meester retired.

Pick change; previously Jeremiah Poutasi, OT

  4. Oakland Raiders: T.J. Yeldon, RB, Alabama
With Darren McFadden gone, the Raiders could look into drafting a running back to complement Latavius Murray. T.J. Yeldon had a rough Combine, but he’s a steal here.

  5. Washington Redskins: James Sample, S, Louisville
The issues the Redskins have in their secondary are pretty well documented. They were counting on Ryan Clark this past year, which proved to be disastrous because the former Steeler is way past his prime.

  6. New York Jets: Garrett Grayson, QB, Colorado State
The Jets have a new front office, so they may want to bring in their own quarterback. Having Garrett Grayson sit for a year or two would make sense.

Pick change; previously Duke Johnson, RB

  7. Chicago Bears: A.J. Cann, G, South Carolina
Jay Cutler played like trash last year, but it didn’t help that his offensive line frequently broke down and didn’t give him much time to throw. The Bears will have to endure Cutler’s lethargy again next season, so they can at least improve his blocking.

  8. St. Louis Rams: Gabe Wright, DT, Auburn
The Rams just cut Kendall Langford, so they need to find some depth behind Michael Brockers and Aaron Donald on the interior of their defensive line.

  9. Atlanta Falcons: Duke Johnson, RB, Miami
I don’t think the Falcons will go out of their way to draft a running back, but they may have to if someone as talented as Duke Johnson falls to them in the third round.

Pick change; previously Nick O’Leary, TE

  10. New York Giants: Jeremiah Poutasi, OT, Utah
The Giants have to address their offensive line at some point. They could look for an upgrade up front with their first-round pick. If they don’t, they’ll have to target an upgrade at the right tackle position on the second day to keep Eli Manning upright.

Pick change; previously Tre Jackson, G

  11. New Orleans Saints: Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, CB, Oregon
The Saints desperately have to upgrade their pass defense, so it shouldn’t surprise anyone if they double up on cornerbacks in the early stages of the 2015 NFL Draft.

  12. Minnesota Vikings: Ali Marpet, OT/G, Hobart
Matt Kalil was a human turnstile this past year, but he dealt with an injury. He’ll almost definitely get one more chance next season. The fast-rising Ali Marpet could be drafted as insurance, though. In the meantime, Marpet can take over at the left guard position, which has been problematic for quite some time.

  13. Cleveland Browns: Steve Nelson, CB, Oregon State
A cornerback is a possibility in Rounds 2-4. Buster Skrine is a free agent, while Justin Gilbert had a troublesome rookie campaign.

  14. Miami Dolphins: Jaquiski Tartt, S, Samford
Louis Delmas, who will be hitting the market in March, tore his ACL. An early draft choice has to be used to find someone who can play next to Reshad Jones.

  15. San Francisco 49ers: Rashad Greene, WR, Florida State
The 49ers are really hurting for receiving help. Michael Crabtree, a huge disappointment this past year, will probably be gone this offseason. Anquan Boldin played well, but he can’t possibly perform at a high level much longer. Stevie Johnson proved to be a bust.

Pick change; previously Jay Ajayi, RB

  16. Kansas City Chiefs: Justin Hardy, WR, East Carolina
It’s amazing that the Chiefs went the entire year without having any of their receivers score a single touchdown. Alex Smith was partly to blame, but the receiving corps was just abysmal.

Pick change; previously Gerod Holliman, S

  17. Buffalo Bills: Chris Hackett, S, TCU
Da’Norris Searcy played well in place of Jairus Byrd this past season, but now he, like Byrd last spring, happens to be a free agent.

Pick change; previously Cameron Artis-Payne, RB

  18. Houston Texans: Charles Gaines, CB, Louisville
The Texans could use some depth at corner, as they were in trouble last year when some of their starters went down.

Pick change; previously David Johnson, RB

  19. San Diego Chargers: Ellis McCarthy, NT, UCLA
San Diego doesn’t have a quality nose tackle, which would explain why the team was just mediocre against the run.

  20. Philadelphia Eagles: Jake Fisher, OT, Oregon
Another Oregon player for Chip Kelly. This one can upgrade Todd Herremans at right guard and then move to tackle once Jason Peters retires.

  21. Cincinnati Bengals: Trey Flowers, DE/OLB, Arkansas
The Bengals’ pass rush was inconsistent this past year, as the team has missed Michael Johnson’s presence. They may re-sign Johnson if he’s cut. If not, an early-round choice could be used on a defensive end.

Pick change; previously Corey Robinson, OT

  22. Arizona Cardinals: Mike Davis, RB, South Carolina
Andre Ellington can’t carry the load by himself, and the Cardinals need a new No. 2 running back anyway.

  23. Pittsburgh Steelers: Lorenzo Mauldin, DE/OLB, Louisville
The Steelers hate drafting edge rushers early on because of scheme transition issues, but they really need to upgrade their pass rush. It was better at the end of the season, but Pittsburgh can’t count on James Harrison playing well forever.

  24. Detroit Lions: Cedric Ogbuhei, OT, Texas A&M
Detroit absolutely has to fix its pass protection, and its biggest problem is at right tackle. LaAdrian Waddle, who is just a marginal talent, was banged up often last year.

Pick change; previously Sean Hickey, OT

  25. Carolina Panthers: David Johnson, RB, Northern Iowa
Jonathan Stewart finished the year on a strong note, but the Panthers can’t depend on him because he’s so frequently banged up. With DeAngelo Williams officially gone, Carolina will have to add another running back.

Pick change; previously Buck Allen, RB

  26. Baltimore Ravens: Jay Ajayi, RB, Boise State
Justin Forsett came out of nowhere to have a huge year for the Ravens in the wake of Ray Rice’s suspension. Unfortunately for the Ravens, Forsett is a free agent, and it could be difficult to keep him because he may command a lot of money this offseason.

Pick change; previously Nick O’Leary, TE

  27. Dallas Cowboys: Gerod Holliman, S, Louisville
The Cowboys have major issues in their secondary, so it shouldn’t surprise anyone if they spend multiple picks on upgrades.

Pick change; previously James Sample, S

  28. Denver Broncos: Reese Dismukes, C, Auburn
Another offensive line upgrade for the Broncos, as they need to make sure Peyton Manning and his decaying arm are well protected next year.

  29. Indianapolis Colts: Buck Allen, RB, USC
The Colts just signed Frank Gore – check out my grade in the NFL Free Agent Signing Grades page – but he’s just a short-term solution. A long-term option is needed.

Pick change; previously Chris Hackett, S

  30. Green Bay Packers: Cameron Artis-Payne, RB, Auburn
The Packers want to bring in a running back to ease Eddie Lacy’s workload, and there should be plenty of good ones available at the end of Round 2.

Pick change; previously Stephone Anthony, ILB

  31. Seattle Seahawks: Christian Covington, DT, Rice
The Seahawks were really missing Brandon Mebane. They need some help at defensive tackle, even once Mebane returns from his hamstring injury next year.

  32. New England Patriots: Michael Bennett, DT, Ohio State
There currently isn’t a huge need for a defensive tackle, but Vince Wilfork, Chris Jones and Sealver Siliga will all be heading into their contract years by the 2016 season, so this is a selection for the future.
