2013 NFL Mock Draft: Round 3

Last update: Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013. Major changes in all 4 rounds.
Next update: Next week. Follow me @walterfootball for updates.

You can find the complete seven-round 2013 NFL Draft Order by clicking the link.

  1. Kansas City Chiefs: Datone Jones, DE, UCLA
Glenn Dorsey will be a free agent in March and Tyson Jackson is due more than $14 million next year, so it appears as though their disappointing tenures in Kansas City are coming to an end.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

  2. Jacksonville Jaguars: Menelik Watson, OT, Florida State
Cameron Bradfield was overmatched this year. The Jaguars need need to find an upgrade for their new quarterback.

  3. Detroit Lions: Jawan Jamison, RB, Rutgers
The Lions talked about their lacking speed element at running back recently. They had it with Jahvid Best, but he may never play again.

  4. Oakland Raiders: Everett Dawkins, DT, Florida State
Richard Seymour’s contract will be voided at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Tommy Kelly is a bum who doesn’t care about winning, as evidenced when he laughed after prolonging a San Diego drive with a pair of offside penalties. He’s a thug who has played so sluggishly this year in the rare instances when he wasn’t trying to injure the opposing quarterback, so there’s no chance he’s going to see a penny of his $6.5 million salary in 2013. He’s as good as gone, and 15-year-old head coach Dennis Allen lost all respect in the locker room for not cutting him after the opener.

Pick change; previously Blidi Wreh-Wilson, CB

  5. Philadelphia Eagles: Robert Alford, CB, Southeastern Louisiana
Brandon Boykin was a nice pick in the fourth round, but he won’t be enough if Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie leaves via free agency, as Philadelphia wants three high-level cornerbacks. Nnamdi Asomugha will be cut this spring. He was absolutely terrible.

Pick change; previously Will Davis, CB

  6. Cleveland Browns: Jordan Reed, TE, Florida
Ben Watson is a free agent, while Jordan Cameron, drafted by the old regime, hasn’t shown much yet. The Browns will likely search for a tight end upgrade this offseason.

Pick change; previously Landry Jones, QB

  7. Arizona Cardinals: Corey Lemonier, DE/OLB, Auburn
Corey Lemonier, who provides great value here in Round 3, could bolster an inconsistent pass rush and displace the injury-prone O’Brien Schofield.

Pick change; previously Brennan Williams, DE/OLB

  8. Tennessee Titans: Bacarri Rambo, S, Georgia
The Titans have major problems at safety. Jordan Babineaux is just a marginal talent, while Michael Griffin has inexplicably dropped off this year. At first, it was believed he was struggling because he was at strong safety instead of free safety, but he continued to play poorly despite moving back to his natural spot.

Pick change; previously Tony Jefferson, S

  9. Buffalo Bills: Tank Carradine, DE, Florida State
The Bills spent tons of money on Mario Williams and Mark Anderson this offseason, but while the former has picked up his play after the bye, the latter was dreadful whenever he’s been on the field. Buffalo needs to put as much pressure on the quarterback if it wants to unseat the Patriots in the division.

Pick change; previously Corey Lemonier, DE/OLB

  10. New York Jets: D.J. Fluker, OT, Alabama
It’s unclear who the Jets’ starting quarterback will be next year, but whoever that will be needs a better right tackle than Austin Howard. Thanks in part to Howard, New York surrendered a ridiculous 11 sacks to the Chargers late in the season.

Pick change; previously Joseph Randle, RB

  11. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Logan Ryan, CB, Rutgers
The Buccaneers don’t ever shy away from doubling up on positions. They may do so at cornerback, as this was a huge area of need even before the Aqib Talib trade.

Pick change; previously Nickell Robey, CB

  12. San Francisco 49ers: Robert Woods, WR, USC
Mario Manningham could be released in the coming months. He’s owed close to $4 million in non-guaranteed money, and he’s coming off a torn ACL and PCL that he suffered in late December.

  13. New Orleans Saints: Jordan Poyer, CB, Oregon State
The Saints obviously have to upgrade their secondary after sporting one of the worst pass defenses of all time in 2012.

Pick change; previously Oday Aboushi, G/OT

  14. San Diego Chargers: Brennan Williams, OT, North Carolina
Philip Rivers appears to be regressing, but it’s impossible to tell if that’s the case because he’s getting slaughtered behind a pathetic offensive line. San Diego cannot, under any circumstances, enter the 2013 season with Jared Gaither as its starting left tackle. He’s just way too injury-prone and unreliable.

Pick change; previously Tyler Bray, QB

  15. Miami Dolphins: Stedman Bailey, WR, West Virginia
Brian Hartline hasn’t done very much since posting 200-plus yards at Arizona, so it’s clear that he’s not a No. 1. The Dolphins need a top option for the inconsistent Ryan Tannehill.

Pick change; previously John Simon, DE/OLB

  16. St. Louis Rams: David Quessenberry, G/C/OT, San Jose State
Another upgrade for the Rams’ poor offensive line. They need to protect Sam Bradford. David Quessenberry can play virtually every position up front, so he’ll be very useful for his new team.

Pick change; previously Bacarri Rambo, S

  17. Pittsburgh Steelers: Marquise Goodwin, WR/KR, Texas
The Steelers never shy away from a play-maker if one provides good value. The butterfingered Mike Wallace could be gone this offseason. Marquise Goodwin has drawn comparisons to Wallace (in a good way), so he’d be a good replacement.

Pick change; previously Markus Wheaton, WR

  18. Dallas Cowboys: Alvin Bailey, G, Arkansas
The interior of Dallas’ offensive line is an abomination. The front office found two downgrades at guard last offseason. Hopefully it finds better players this time around.

  19. New York Giants: Khaseem Greene, LB, Rutgers
The Giants have issues in the middle of their defense. The safety position is a problem, as is inside linebacker. Chase Blackburn shouldn’t be starting, while Keith Rivers, a free agent in March, can never get healthy. General manager Jerry Reese said that there needs to be better linebacker play next year.

  20. Miami Dolphins: Justin Pugh, G/OT, Syracuse
Justin Pugh has dinosaur arms, so he might be forced into playing guard. That’s fine for the Dolphins because they need help at both right tackle (if Jake Long leaves) and right guard.

Pick change; previously Chris Faulk, OT

  21. Minnesota Vikings: Tony Jefferson, S, Oklahoma
As noted in my Minnesota Vikings NFL Offseason Needs, Harrison Smith deserves Rookie of the Year consideration, but he’s the only talented safety on Minnesota’s roster.

Pick change; previously A.J. Klein, ILB

  22. Cincinnati Bengals: T.J. McDonald, S, USC
The Bengals had a big need at safety, but they didn’t address the position until the fifth round this past April. They’ll put more effort into finding an upgrade the following offseason because they won’t survive with Reggie Nelson and the benched Taylor Mays (or cornerback Nate Clements, an impending free agent who was playing out of position) as their starters.

Pick change; previously Robert Lester, S

  23. Washington Redskins: Leon McFadden, CB, San Diego State
DeAngelo Hall, who has been inconsistent this year, is due $7.5 million in 2013, but none of it is guaranteed. Josh Wilson, meanwhile, will be entering his contract year. The Redskins will have to add some depth at cornerback.

Pick change; previously Ryan Swope, CB

  24. Indianapolis Colts: John Simon, DE/OLB, Ohio State
Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis won’t be around much longer. The Colts need to find new players who can rush the passer.

Pick change; previously Chase Thomas, DE/OLB

  25. Seattle Seahawks: Gavin Escobar, TE, San Diego State
Here’s some more help for Russell Wilson. Despite Zach Miller’s heroic conversion on third-and-long early against Washington, the Seahawks could look into bringing in a new tight end.

Pick change; previously Tank Carradine, DE

  26. Green Bay Packers: Christine Michael, RB, Texas A&M
James Starks has yet to prove that he can stay healthy, while Alex Green has shown nothing in several starts. Cedric Benson is obviously not a long-term answer, though I’ve been impressed with DuJuan Harris in his limited action. Still, the Packers may address the running back position early in the 2013 NFL Draft. They’ve been linked to Christine Michael per various sources.

Pick change; previously Aaron Dobson, WR

  27. Houston Texans: Joseph Randle, RB, Oklahoma State
This doesn’t fill any sort of current need, but Ben Tate will be a free agent after next season, so the Texans may want to trade him because they can’t exactly pay top dollar to two running backs.

Pick change; previously Andre Ellington, RB

  28. Denver Broncos: Travis Frederick, G/C, Wisconsin
The Broncos need an upgrade on the offensive line. Right guard Manuel Ramirez was not getting the job done for the suddenly injury-prone Chris Kuper, who has barely seen the field this year. Zane Beadles isn’t good on the other side either. Denver can easily find an upgrade this April.

  29. New England Patriots: Tyler Bray, QB, Tennessee
The Patriots have used a third-round pick on a troubled but talented SEC quarterback before. There’s talk that Bill Belichick could trade Ryan Mallett to Michael Lombardi, so if that happens, New England may search for another project at the signal-caller position.

Pick change; previously William Gholston, DE/DT

  30. Atlanta Falcons: Mike Gillislee, RB, Florida
Despite how he performed against the Seahawks in the playoffs, Michael Turner is done. He’s looked like he’s been running in quicksand for most of this season, so he won’t be on the roster much longer.

Pick change; previously Jordan Reed, TE

  31. Baltimore Ravens: Tyrann Mathieu, CB, LSU
The Ravens suddenly have glaring issues at cornerback. Lardarius Webb tore an ACL for the second time in his career, while Cary Williams is a free agent. The Ravens have taken a chance on another troubled cornerback, so they’ll consider Tyrann Mathieu.

  32. San Francisco 49ers: Jonathan Cyprien, S, Florida International
Despite making the Pro Bowl, Donte Whitner hasn’t been very good this year (he surrendered more touchdowns than any safety). Dashon Goldson, meanwhile, was slapped with a franchise tag this prior offseason. The 49ers will need a replacement if they can’t sign him to a long-term deal.

Pick change; previously Shawn Williams, S
