*** This mock draft will be updated at least once per week (Tuesday afternoons and other times for important events.). Check out old versions of this 2014 NFL Mock Draft in the archived mock draft section. Follow @walterfootball for updates. ***

  1. Houston Texans: Terrence Brooks, S, Florida State
The Texans may consider a safety in the middle rounds as competition for D.J. Swearinger, who struggled last year.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

Pick change; previously E.J. Gaines, CB

  2. Washington Redskins: Cyril Richardson, G/OT, Baylor
The Redskins signed Shawn Lauvao, but they might be interested in adding another guard if a talented one is available, given that Chris Chester is pretty pedestrian.

Pick change; previously Rashaad Reynolds, CB

  3. Atlanta Falcons: Charles Sims, RB, West Virginia
The Falcons may search for their running back of the future in the middle rounds. Steven Jackson won’t be around much longer if he keeps playing like he did in 2013.

  4. New York Jets: Dri Archer, RB/WR, Kent State
Here’s another weapon for Geno Smith. Dri Archer could serve as a dangerous weapon coming out of the backfield. Sorry I don’t have Archer in the first round, by the way. Perhaps if I had agents feeding me shaky info, I could move him up.

  5. Jacksonville Jaguars: Chris Watt, G, Notre Dame
The Jaguars have a major hole at left guard, so they’ll have to shore that up to help protect their new quarterback.

  6. Cleveland Browns: Marcus Smith, DE/OLB, Louisville
Paul Kruger predictably failed to live up to his price tag this past season. The Browns may want to bring in another pass-rusher if they have plans on releasing Kruger after the 2014 season.

  7. Oakland Raiders: Billy Turner, OT, North Dakota State
The Raiders signed Austin Howard to play guard. That means they have a gaping hole at right tackle. They’ll need to find help to protect their new quarterback.

  8. Minnesota Vikings: Tre Boston, S, North Carolina
The Vikings did a good job of addressing their pedestrian secondary this offseason, but they still need a safety next to Harrison Smith.

  9. Buffalo Bills: Christian Kirksey, LB, Iowa
I hope the Bills don’t think that Keith Rivers is a long-term option (or any sort of option) for them at linebacker.

  10. St. Louis Rams: Dakota Dozier, G, Furman
The Rams still have a hole at one of the guard positions, even after retaining Rodger Saffold.

  11. Detroit Lions: Caraun Reid, DT, Princeton
The Lions have said that they plan on drafting a defensive tackle to push Nick Fairley. There’s a chance that’ll happen at No. 10 with Aaron Donald, but it’s more likely to be a Round 2-4 pick.

  12. Tennessee Titans: Trevor Reilly, DE/OLB, Utah
The Titans signed Shaun Phillips, but he’s just a temporarily solution at outside linebacker. A long-term answer is needed.

  13. New York Giants: Jordan Zumwalt, LB, UCLA
The Giants found some linebacker help in free agency, but they still could use another player to strengthen the group.

  14. Jacksonville Jaguars: Will Sutton, DT, Arizona State
The Jaguars have just one interior defensive lineman who can rush the passer (Sen’Derrick Marks). They may want to add another to bolster their rotation.

  15. New York Jets: Yawin Smallwood, ILB, Connecticut
The Jets may spend a mid-round choice to upgrade their depth at inside linebacker, which is lacking right now.

  16. Miami Dolphins: Daniel McCullers, NT, Tennessee
The Dolphins retained Randy Starks, but lost Paul Soliai to the Falcons. Here’s a big body to replace him.

  17. Chicago Bears: Brock Vereen, S, Minnesota
Brock Vereen’s stock is on the rise, and he’s the type of prospect Phil Emery likes. The Bears will likely add multiple safeties in the 2014 NFL Draft.

  18. Pittsburgh Steelers: Brent Urban, DE/DT Virginia
The Steelers lost Ziggy Hood and Al Woods in free agency. Neither was an impactful player, but the team is severely lacking in depth up front.

  19. Dallas Cowboys: Chris Smith, DE/OLB, Arkansas
The Cowboys need another pass-rusher, so expect them to add a defensive end in the first few rounds of the 2014 NFL Draft.

  20. Arizona Cardinals: Shayne Skov, ILB, Stanford
Last year’s second-round pick, Kevin Minter, will likely start for the departed Karlos Dansby. Depth is needed at inside linebacker, however.

  21. Green Bay Packers: Will Clarke, DE/DT, West Virginia
As mentioned earlier, the Packers are trying to get much faster on defense. They also need help up front, as B.J. Raji signed back on for just one more year.

  22. Philadelphia Eagles: Dontae Johnson, S, N.C. State
Philadelphia’s defense was terrible for many reasons, one of which is the safety position. Malcolm Jenkins was signed, but help is still needed there. Nate Allen is just too unreliable to be one of the starters.

  23. Cincinnati Bengals: Aaron Murray, QB, Georgia
The Bengals will keep sticking with Andy Dalton, but they’ll need to develop a quarterback just in case Dalton can’t get them over the first-round hump.

  24. Kansas City Chiefs: Lache Seastrunk, RB, Baylor
The Chiefs will be looking to add a running back, as Knile Davis is not expected to be ready for the 2014 season.

  25. San Diego Chargers: Rashaad Reynolds, CB, Oregon State
It should surprise no one if the Chargers double up on the cornerback position in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Pick change; previously Brandon Thomas, OT/G

  26. New Orleans Saints: Chris Davis, CB, Auburn
The Saints have some issues at cornerback. Jabari Greer was recently released, as he was coming off a torn ACL.

  27. Cleveland Browns: Kenny Ladler, S, Vanderbilt
The Browns need safety depth and perhaps someone to challenge Tashaun Gipson for the starting job.

  28. Carolina Panthers: Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, G, Canada
The Panthers have to draft multiple linemen – preferably ones who won’t retire anytime soon.

  29. San Francisco 49ers: Logan Thomas, QB, Virginia Tech
The 49ers have so many picks that they’ll probably use a mid-rounder on a developmental quarterback. Jim Harbaugh has shown interest in Logan Thomas.

  30. New England Patriots: C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, Iowa
With Aaron Hernandez gone forever and Rob Gronkowski coming off a serious knee injury, the Patriots may want to bring in another talented tight end.

  31. Denver Broncos: Rob Herron, WR, Wyoming
Wes Welker will be a 34-year-old free agent next spring, so the Broncos may want to think about bringing in a young slot receiver.

Pick change; previously JaWuan James, OT

  32. Seattle Seahawks: Xavier Grimble, TE, USC
There’s a chance Zach Miller won’t be back next year, so the Seahawks will have to find another tight end to go along with Luke Willson.

  33. Detroit Lions: Brandon Coleman, WR, Rutgers
If the Lions don’t move up for Sammy Watkins or Mike Evans, they’ll have to settle for a much-less talented receiver later on during the draft.

  34. Baltimore Ravens: Victor Hampton, CB, South Carolina
The Ravens don’t have much depth at corner, so they may use one of their new compensatory picks to fix that.

  35. Houston Texans: Arthur Lynch, TE, Georgia
The Texans are looking to add a new tight end after cutting Owen Daniels.

  36. Detroit Lions: Jon Halapio, G, Florida
More interior offensive line depth for the Lions, who are really hurting in that area.

  37. New York Jets: Morgan Breslin, DE/OLB, USC
The Jets have a great interior pass rush, but they need to become more potent on the outside.

Pick change; previously Yawin Smallwood, ILB

  38. Baltimore Ravens: Justin Ellis, NT, Louisiana Tech
The Ravens plan on moving Haloti Ngata outside, so they’ll need to add some competition and/or depth at nose tackle.

  39. Atlanta Falcons: Crockett Gilmore, TE, Colorado State
Tony Gonzalez could always return, but the Falcons need to add another tight end because chances are that he’s gone for good.

  40. New England Patriots: Jordan Tripp, OLB, Montana
The Patriots want to add a speedy linebacker, which is why they brought in Wesley Woodyard for a visit. They couldn’t sign him, so they’ll have to acquire one in the draft instead.
