The order of this 2023 NFL Mock Draft is often determined by the NFL Power Rankings, but for this update, it’s determined by the projected record in the NFL Season Previews for 2022.

*** This mock draft will be updated occasionally. Follow @walterfootball for NFL Draft updates. ***

  1. Houston Texans: Zacch Pickens, DT, South Carolina
The Texans must improve their run defense and pass rush, so obtaining some defensive line help makes sense.

Zacch Pickens had a great ’21 campaign. He has plus size, quickness and athleticism.

Pick change; previously Bryan Bresee, DT

  2. Pittsburgh Steelers: Jaylon Jones, CB, Texas A&M Texas A&M
T.J. Watt’s return has bolstered Pittsburgh’s pass defense, but help is still needed at cornerback.

Jaylon Jones is an instinctive cornerback with good speed and athleticism.

  3. Arizona Cardinals: Cam Mitchell, CB, Northwestern Northwestern
The Cardinals have a weak group of cornerbacks, which is an issue against the talented receivers in the NFC West. They could double up on corners.

Cam Mitchell is an instinctive, phsyical cornerback with good size.

  4. Seattle Seahawks: Jarrett Patterson, C, Notre Dame Notre Dame
The Seahawks could stand to bolster the interior of their offensive line.

Heading into 2022, Jarrett Patterson has yet to surrender a sack in his collegiate career.

  5. Indianapolis Colts: Zion Nelson, OT, Miami Miami
The Colts haven’t been able to keep their quarterbacks upright, so they need to finally obtain a replacement for Anthony Castonzo.

Zion Nelson was inconsistent this past season, but he has the potential to break out eventually.

  6. Los Angeles Rams: Felix Anudike-Uzomah, DE/OLB, Kansas State Kansas State
The Rams really miss Von Miller, so they’ll have to find a new edge rusher.

Best fit for the 3-4, Felix Anudike-Uzomah was highly productive in ’21.

  7. Atlanta Falcons: Steve Avila, C/G, TCU TCU
The Falcons will need to add better protection for their new quarterback, which entails an upgrade at center.

Steve Avila is a versatile lineman who can play center, guard and right tackle.

Pick change; previously Spencer Rattler, QB

  8. Las Vegas Raiders: Noah Sewell, LB, Oregon Oregon
The Raiders have a pathetic defense, so they must find help at every level.

  9. New Orleans Saints: Henry To’o To’o, LB, Alabama
The Saints had interest in Quay Walker at No. 19, but opted for a tackle instead. Here’s the linebacker help they were seeking.

Henry To’o To’o is an instinctive linebacker. See where he ranks in our 2023 NFL Draft Prospect Rankings.

  10. Cleveland Browns: Mike Morris, DE, Michigan Notre Dame
Cleveland’s pass rush is a bit weak outside of Myles Garrett. This is a problem, given how many great passing attacks reside in the AFC.

Mike Morris made big improvements as a pass-rusher during his final year.

  11. Carolina Panthers: Tanner McKee, QB, Stanford Stanford
The Panthers thought they fixed their dilemma by trading for Baker Mayfield, but that deal backfired. Mayfield was terrible prior to his release, so Carolina will search for a franchise quarterback.

Tanner McKee has a strong arm. He excited some evaluators with his play this year.

  12. Tennessee Titans: B.J. Ojulari, DE/OLB, LSU LSU
Bud Dupree could be released after this season because he has not produced up to his salary.

B.J. Ojulari did a great job of taking over for the injured Ali Gaye in 2021.

  13. New England Patriots: Malachi Moore, CB/S, Alabama Alabama
Bill Belichick loves his versatile defensive backs. He’ll need one with Devin McCourty nearing retirement.

Malachi Moore is an instinctive defensive back who can play anywhere in the defensive backfield.

  14. New York Jets: Daiyan Henley, LB, Washington State Washington State
The Jets are weak in the middle of the field, so they could stand to upgrade their linebacking corps.

Daiyan Henley has great sideline-to-sideline speed.

  15. Pittsburgh Steelers: Gervon Dexter, DT, Florida Florida
The Steelers can continue to bolster their miserable pass defense by bolstering the trenches to improve their ability to get to the quarterback.
Gervon Dexter is a lengthy defensive lineman with plus quickness and strength.

Pick change; previously Zacch Pickens, DT

  16. Green Bay Packers: Will McDonald, DE, Iowa State Iowa State
The Packers should add another talented edge rusher so they don’t have to blitz as often.

Will McDonald is a fast and athletic edge rusher.

  17. Detroit Lions: Quan Martin, CB/S, Illinois Illinois
The Lions could stand to double up on cornerbacks, given how bad they are against the pass.

Quan Martin is a smooth athlete who can play anywhere in the secondary.

  18. Seattle Seahawks: Trey Dean, S, Florida Florida
Jamaal Adams can’t stay healthy, so the Seahawks will be looking for a new safety.

Trey Dean is a tough run defender.

  19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Anthony Richardson, QB, Florida Florida
The Buccaneers need a future replacement for Tom Brady, as Kyle Trask has not shown any signs of being a franchise quarterback.

Anthony Richardson is raw, but has a huge arm and great athleticism. He had a great 2022 debut, but struggled versus Kentucky the following week. He’s been inconsistent ever since.

  20. Jacksonville Jaguars: O’Cyrus Torrence, G, Florida
The Jaguars could stand to bolster their offensive line so Trevor Lawrence takes his play to another level.

O’Cyrus Torrence is a huge interior blocker with surprising atleticism.

Pick change; previously Zacch Pickens, DT

  21. Washington Redskins: Nick Broeker, OT/G, Ole Miss
The Redskins need to address the interior of their offensive line, which has been a big liability this year.

Nick Broeker may have to switch to guard in the NFL.

  22. Miami Dolphins: Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Alabama Alabama
Chase Edmonds has been a disappointment, but he’s gone now anyway. The Dolphins will need a pass-catcher to pair with Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr.

Jahmyr Gibbs is an instinctive back who runs with power and catches passes well.

  23. New York Giants: Mekhi Garner, CB, LSU LSU
The Giants need to find a new cornerback to replace James Bradberry. They also need a second cornerback, so they could double up at the position.

Mekhi Garner is a tall cornerback with good instincts.

  24. Los Angeles Chargers: Nolan Smith, DE, Georgia Georgia
Khalil Mack is just a temporary solution across from Joey Bosa. Someone is needed for the long haul.

Nolan Smith needs to get stronger, but he has great speed off the edge.

  25. Chicago Bears: Anton Harrison, OT, Oklahoma Oklahoma
The Bears need everything, but most of all, they have to improve their offensive line because Justin Fields is being pressured way too often.

Anton Harrison has quality athleticism and quickness for a tackle.

  26. Dallas Cowboys: Jammie Robinson, S, Florida State
The Cowboys could stand to improve their secondary to help complement their pass rush.

Jammie Robinson has been a solid run defender for Florida State.

  27. Cincinnati Bengals: Michael Mayer, TE, Notre Dame Notre Dame
Cincinnati was interested in Trey McBride in last year’s draft, so perhaps they’ll use a second-day pick on a tight end.

The next NFL tight end to come out of Notre Dame, Michael Mayer murdered opponents with high production over the middle of the field.

Pick change; previously Emmanuel Forbes, CB

  28. Carolina Panthers: Kenny McIntosh, RB, Georgia
The Panthers lost Christian McCaffrey, so they’ll need to find a new lead back.

Kenny McIntosh flashed in a relief role prior to the ’22 season. He’s an excellent receiver.

  29. Detroit Lions: Spencer Rattler, QB, South Carolina
The Lions will be interested in obtaining a young quarterback to groom behind Jared Goff.

Spencer Rattler has big-time upside with plus arm strength and athleticism, but has erratic decision-making.

Pick change; previously Mazi Smith, DT

  30. Kansas City Chiefs: Zach Evans, RB, Ole Miss Ole Miss
The Chiefs have no running game because Clyde Edwards-Helaire has been a huge bust. The Chiefs could target a running back on Day 2.

Zach Evans is undersized, but explosive.

  31. Buffalo Bills: Jaxon Kirkland, G, Washington Washington
The Bills still have a hole at guard they need to plug.

Jaxon Kirkland can play right tackle, but seems like a better fit at guard.

Pick change; previously O’Cyrus Torrence, G

  32. Philadelphia Eagles: Demarvioun Overshown, LB, Texas Texas
No one in Philadelphia will ever be upset about the Eagles spending a high resource on a linebacker.

Demarvioun Overshown was flying all over the field at times in ’21.
