*** 2017 NFL MOCK DRAFT (2 rounds) updated Oct. 13. This mock draft will be updated occasionally. Check out old versions of this 2017 NFL Mock Draft in the archived mock section. Follow @walterfootball for NFL Draft updates. ***
  1. Cleveland Browns: DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame
The Browns traded away the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft to the Eagles, passing on the possibility of drafting a quarterback. This seemed like a great idea at the time, but they have to be kicking themselves now, with Carson Wentz playing so well and their other pick set to be in the late 20s or even in the 30s. Cody Kessler has been fine as a replacement for Josh McCown, but he’s not a franchise quarterback.

DeShone Kizer is currently the favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick. Some team sources have said that they favor him over Deshaun Watson and Brad Kaaya, and it’s easy to see why, thanks to his arm strength, accuracy and mobility.

  2. San Diego Chargers: Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M
The Chargers have three excellent cornerbacks, so imagine how potent their defense would be if it could put consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks. They’d be able to do so with Myles Garrett, as he would start across from Melvin Ingram, though Ingram may not return next year because he’s an impending free agent. Jeremiah Attaochu, meanwhile, has struggled and needs to be upgraded.

Garrett is a monstrous pass-rusher, and he happens to be the top prospect in this class. He’s a no-brainer for San Diego at No. 2 overall. The pass rush the Chargers would generate with him, Joey Bosa and possibly Ingram would be devastating.

  3. Miami Dolphins: Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson
The Ryan Tannehill experiment may end soon. There might be a chance Adam Gase gives Tannehill another season to prove himself, but he may want to bring in his own quarterback. Tannehill hasn’t shown much improvement over the years, so the Dolphins may just decide to move on with another franchise signal-caller.

College football’s version of Russell Wilson, Deshaun Watson had an amazing run despite being just a mere sophomore. The sky’s the limit for him, despite his slow start this season. I realize Watson may not be a perfect fit for Adam Gase’s system, but he’s the best quarterback available, and good coaches adjust scheme to talent; not the opposite.

  4. San Francisco 49ers: Brad Kaaya, QB, Miami
The 49ers missed out on a quarterback in last week’s update. Now that they’re 1-4, however, they can nab a potential franchise signal-caller. That’s obviously something they need to do; Blaine Gabbert has been benched, while Colin Kaepernick has transformed into a pick-six machine because he refuses to study film and improve the mental part of his game.

Brad Kaaya has played brilliantly this year, so I can’t see the 49ers or another quarterback-needy team passing on him.

Pick change; previously Charles Harris, DE/OLB

  5. Chicago Bears: Cam Robinson, OT, Alabama
The Bears are now the team that misses out on a quarterback, so they could trade up. Then again, maybe John Fox will give Brian Hoyer a shot, based on how well he has performed since taking over for Jay Cutler.

Regardless, the Bears need to bolster their offensive line, particularly at tackle, where they’re especially weak.

Pick change; previously Mike McGlinchey, OT

  6. New York Jets: Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU
The Jets would love to land one of the three quarterbacks, so perhaps they’d be willing to trade up. If not, they can still bolster their backfield by selecting the top offensive player in the class, Leonard Fournette.

Fournette would’ve been considered the top running back prospect since Adrian Peterson if it weren’t for Todd Gurley, and he’s someone the Jets could build their offense around.

Pick change; previously Brad Kaaya, QB

  7. Carolina Panthers: Jalen Tabor, CB, Florida
The Panthers tend to draft the best player available, and this is one instance in which the best prospect remaining on the board happens to fill a huge need.

There’s no question that Carolina is hurting at cornerback. Releasing Josh Norman proved to be a huge mistake, but the Panthers can make amends for it here by selecting the top corner in the class.

Pick change; previously Dalvin Cook, RB

  8. Jacksonville Jaguars: Jonathan Allen, DE/DT, Alabama
Despite their six sacks of Andrew Luck, the Jaguars don’t pressure the quarterback consistently. They have some promising edge rushers in Dante Fowler and Yannick Ngakoue, and while they could strengthen that position, they could also stand to bolster the interior of the defensive front.

Jonathan Allen is currently in the top five of our 2017 NFL Draft Big Board, as he has been dominant this year.

  9. New Orleans Saints: Marlon Humphrey, CB, Alabama
The Saints need to draft the best defensive player available. That could be Marlon Humphrey, who would offer a tremendous boost at cornerback. The Saints lost Keenan Lewis this offseason and now is incredibly thin at the position. Delvin Breaux is a good player, but New Orleans needs to find someone to start across from him.

Pick change; previously Adoree Jackson, CB

  10. Indianapolis Colts: Jabrill Peppers, S/LB, Michigan
General manager Ryan Grigson made excuses to the media recently, citing Andrew Luck’s contract as the reason why Indianapolis’ defense is horrible. Well, here’s Grigson’s big chance to improve the stop unit. Jabrill Peppers is the top defensive talent on the board, by my estimation, and he would add some greatly needed speed to the Colts’ ridiculously slow linebacking corps.

Pick change; previously Cam Robinson, OT

  11. Detroit Lions: Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State
The Lions have a talented running back in Ameer Abdullah, but he hasn’t been able to stay healthy. Detroit knows all about injury-prone backs, so they’ll consider one of the top two running backs to help Matthew Stafford. Dalvin Cook is the top prospect available, so he makes a ton of sense at this juncture.

Pick change; previously Leonard Fournette, RB

  12. Arizona Cardinals: Adoree Jackson, CB/KR, USC
The Cardinals made the mistake of rolling into the season with a former running back as one of the starting cornerbacks, and they were punished for it. They’ve since replaced Brandon Williams with Marcus Cooper, which has worked out. However, Cooper is just a temporary solution, and he’s an impending free agent anyway. The Cardinals need a long-term option across from Patrick Peterson.

Pick change; previously Jalen Tabor, CB

  13. Cincinnati Bengals: Malik Hooker, S, Ohio State
The Bengals had a number of key free agents this offseason. They re-signed some of them, but failed to keep Reggie Nelson, who was a valuable member of their defense. Here’s a much-needed replacement if Shawn Williams doesn’t come through. Williams is not off to a good start, but the season is still young.

  14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jamal Adams, S, LSU
The Buccaneers may have the worst safeties in the NFL. They’ve been torched on a weekly basis, and this obviously has to improve, given that Tampa is in a division with Cam Newton, Matt Ryan and Drew Brees. Fortunately for the Buccaneers, there appear to be three safeties worth taking in the top 15.

Pick change; previously Marlon Humphrey, CB

  15. Tennessee Titans: JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, USC
I dropped JuJu Smith-Schuster into the second round of my previous three updates because he had gotten off to a very slow start, but he has improved recently, so I’m willing to slot him into the middle of the first round again. The Titans would be interested in him, as they’re devoid of talent at receiver outside of Tajae Sharpe, who is more of a No. 2.

Pick change; previously Tre’Davious White, CB

  16. New York Giants: Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame
The Giants tried to select Jack Conklin in the 2016 NFL Draft, but the Titans leapt them. New York paid the price, as its tackle play this season has been atrocious. Moving Ereck Flowers to right tackle and drafting a new blind-side protector would work very well.

Pick change; previously Quinton Nelson, G
