*** 2016 NFL MOCK DRAFT (2 rounds) updated Sept. 16. This NFL Mock Draft will be updated occasionally for important events. Check out old versions of this 2016 NFL Mock Draft in the archived mock section. Follow @walterfootball for NFL Draft updates. ***
  1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Joey Bosa, DE/DT, Ohio State
The Buccaneers move into the top spot after their dreadful showing against the Titans. They have major problems everywhere, including the defensive line, which put very little pressure on Marcus Mariota outside of Gerald McCoy. Joey Bosa would obviously change that.

Charlie Campbell recently reported that Joey Bosa is regarded by some as a 5-7 overall player; not a top prospect as many believe he is. You can read all about it in the NFL Draft Rumor Mill. However, the one caveat is that Bosa could rise in a weaker class, and I have to think the Buccaneers would love to grab him in an attempt to improve their underwhelming defense.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

Pick change; previously Ronnie Stanley, OT

  2. Oakland Raiders: Laremy Tunsil, OT, Ole Miss
The Raiders are fine now at left tackle with Donald Penn stationed there at the moment. However, Penn is entering his contract year, and given that he’ll turn 33 prior to the 2016 season, Oakland may want to find a long-term blind-side protector.

There’s some strange off-the-field issue going on with Laremy Tunsil right now, but what that is exactly is unclear. I’ll move him down in my mock if it turns out to be bad, but for now, he stays up here.

Pick change; previously Jalen Ramsey, S

  3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Ronnie Stanley, OT, Notre Dame
Can the Jaguars give up on Luke Joeckel yet? It may seem soon, but remember, he was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. By the time the 2016 NFL Draft rolls around, that’ll be three disappointing seasons, and Joeckel will be entering his contract year, anyway. So, yeah, I think Jacksonville will draft an elite left tackle, given the opportunity. Joeckel simply can’t protect Blake Bortles, so the Jaguars need to find a better option before they ruin their quarterback, much like the Texans did with David Carr.

Pick change; previously Laquon Treadwell, WR

  4. Cleveland Browns: Jared Goff, QB, California
You know those Geico “It’s What You Do” commercials? Well, they could easily do one for desperate NFL teams because they reach for quarterbacks. It’s what they do. And it’s hard to blame them, either, given the state the league is in. If you don’t have a quarterback, you’re screwed.

The Browns most certainly don’t have one, and no, Johnny Manziel is not the answer. If the NFL awarded six points for rolling $20s in bathrooms, he would be a Pro Bowler, but sadly, that is not the case. I expect Cleveland to target a signal-caller in the 2016 NFL Draft. In a previous update, that would’ve been Christian Hackenberg, but he has dropped considerably after that ridiculous performance he had versus Temple. Jared Goff has been better, and he could end up being the top signal-caller chosen, with Cardale Jones and Connor Cook underwhelming a bit thus far. It’s a tight, three-way race.

  5. Washington Redskins: Cardale Jones, QB, Ohio State
Jay Gruden has done such a terrific job as the Redskins’ coach thus far, so it’s almost crazy to imagine that he won’t be back in 2016. OK, in all seriousness, Washington is a complete disaster, and it’s easy to envision Daniel Snyder firing everyone after what should be a 2-14 season. Thus, even though Cardale Jones doesn’t fit Gruden’s system, it won’t matter because there will be a new coaching staff in place.

Cardale Jones would’ve been a second-round prospect had he declared for the 2015 NFL Draft, though there was a chance he would’ve gone late in the first via a team trading up. That will hardly be the case in the 2016 NFL Draft. If Jones continues to thrive – he was impressive in the opener, but lackluster in the second game – he’ll be a top-five selection, and he could potentially go No. 1 overall. He has way too much upside and natural talent, displaying Ben Roethlisberger- or Daunte Culpepper-type ability.

  6. New York Jets: Connor Cook, QB, Michigan State
Blegh. I’m not a fan of Connor Cook because of his accuracy and consistency issues, but in a quarterback-hungry league, he could very easily be chosen in the top five (or six, in this case). The Jets obviously need a franchise quarterback, and Geno Smith, who was already on shaky footing, displayed that he had zero leadership in the locker room when some random linebacker made him look like Glass Joe from the Mike Tyson’s Punchout Nintendon game. Glass Geno, perhaps?

  7. Chicago Bears: Vernon Hargreaves, CB, Florida
Is Alan Ball really starting for the Bears? How did this happen? It goes without saying that this needs to change immediately, and while we’re on the topic of Chicago corners, Kyle Fuller needs to improve his play because he was awful in the opener. Vernon Hargreaves could be the solution.

Pick change; previously Joey Bosa, DE/DT

  8. Tennessee Titans: Jalen Ramsey, S, Florida State
I expect the Titans to target their secondary – in the offseason; not during games, since the latter would be too easy – as they need help at both cornerback and safety. As it turns out, Jalen Ramsey can play both positions.

As Charlie Campbell reported, some teams are concerned about Ramsey moving to cornerback this season, but he’ll ultimately find a home at safety in the NFL, given that he’s seen as such a special talent at that position.

Pick change; previously Vernon Hargreaves, CB

  9. San Francisco 49ers: Laquon Treadwell, WR, Ole Miss
The 49ers need some offensive firepower. Anquan Boldin won’t be in the league much longer, while Torrey Smith will probably prove to be a bust signing. Even if Smith pans out, San Francisco could stand to find a new No. 1 receiver.

Pick change; previously Laremy Tunsil, OT

  10. Pittsburgh Steelers: Robert Nkemdiche, DE/DT, Ole Miss
The Steelers could really use some help in their secondary after that humiliating performance at New England, but there are no corners or safeties worth taking this high. So, they can settle on the top player available for their stop unit. Robert Nkemdiche would allow Pittsburgh to have a strong, deep rotation at defensive end; he would join Cameron Heyward and Stephon Tuitt.

Pick change; previously Cameron Sutton, CB

  11. Houston Texans: Myles Jack, LB/RB, UCLA
The Texans spent a third-round pick on Benardrick McKinney, but they’ll be in the market for another inside linebacker next offseason once they release Brian Cushing, who has struggled in recent years. Myles Jack figures to be an upgrade.

  12. New York Giants: A’Shawn Robinson, DE/DT, Alabama
Johnathan Hankins is a very talented defensive tackle, but that’s all the Giants have at the position. They need to fill the huge void they have next to Hankins, so I expect that to be a priority for them next offseason.

  13. New Orleans Saints: Leonard Floyd, DE/OLB, Georgia
The Saints drafted injury-risk Hau’oli Kikaha in the second round of the 2015 draft. Even if he pans out, the team will need another pass-rusher in the wake of the Junior Galette mess to put pressure on the many talented quarterbacks in the NFC South.

  14. St. Louis Rams: Tyler Boyd, WR, Pittsburgh
The Rams had interest in DeVante Parker as a candidate for No. 10 overall, but they opted to go with Todd Gurley instead. Perhaps they’ll find a top receiver next spring because they absolutely need to get Kenny Britt out of the starting lineup. I thought about dropping Tyler Boyd in this update in the wake of his DUI arrest, but the Rams are a team that tends to take chances on troubled players.

  15. Atlanta Falcons: Scooby Wright, LB, Arizona
The Falcons had to hang on for dear life against the Eagles in what was a furious, second-half charge. Some glaring issues in Atlanta’s defense were exposed, namely the linebackers. Justin Durant and Kroy Biermann were horrible, so the Falcons’ front office will have to look in to upgrading those spots this offseason.

Pick change; previously Nate Andrews, S

  16. Detroit Lions: Taylor Decker, OT, Ohio State
The Lions upgraded the guard position in the 2015 draft, but they still have a huge hole at right tackle. I can’t imagine them failing to address this void two years in a row.
