2015 NFL Mock Draft: Round 2

Last update: Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014.
Next update: Next week. Follow me @walterfootball for updates.

*** This mock draft will be updated at least once per week (Tuesday afternoons and other times for important events.). Check out old versions of this 2015 NFL Mock Draft in the archived mock draft section. Follow @walterfootball for updates. ***

  1. Oakland Raiders: Ty Montgomery, WR, Stanford
The Raiders have a bunch of secondary and tertiary options at receiver, but they don’t have a primary target for Derek Carr or whomever their quarterback will be in 2015.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

Pick change; previously Michael Bennett, DT

  2. New York Giants: Tre Jackson, G, Florida State
Eli Manning has been dreadful this preseason, but he’s not entirely to blame for his team’s incompetence. The offensive line can’t pass protect at all.

  3. Washington Redskins: Cody Prewitt, S, Ole Miss
The issues the Redskins have in their secondary are pretty well documented. They’re counting on Ryan Clark this year, which is bound to be disastrous because the former Steeler is way past his prime.

Pick change; previously Mario Edwards, DE/DT

  4. Dallas Cowboys: Michael Bennett, DT, Ohio State
Another defensive line upgrade. The Cowboys’ horrific defense needs upgrades everywhere, including a couple up front.

Pick change; previously Cody Prewitt, S

  5. Buffalo Bills: Sean Mannion, QB, Oregon State
The Bills can’t get a franchise quarterback in the first round, so perhaps they’ll obtain one here. They don’t really have any other choice. E.J. Manuel is a train wreck.

  6. Cleveland Browns: Jordan Jenkins, OLB, Georgia
Barkevious Mingo literally did nothing in the season opener at Pittsburgh. He also disappointed as a rookie, so if this continues, the Browns will want to bring in a new pass-rusher.

Pick change; previously Corey Robinson, OT

  7. New York Jets: Rashad Greene, WR, Florida State
The Jets reached for a bunch of receivers in the 2014 NFL Draft. Perhaps they’ll take one this year who satisfies proper value.

  8. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jalen Collins, CB, LSU
The Buccaneers made a nice signing in Alterraun Verner, but they’ll need help across from him unless 2013 second-rounder Johnthan Banks steps up. Banks struggled as a rookie, so he’ll get one more chance to prove himself this year.

Pick change; previously Brett Hundley, QB

  9. Kansas City Chiefs: Mario Edwards, DE/DT, Florida State
The Chiefs lost Tyson Jackson this offseason. They seemingly replaced him with Vance Walker, but I’m not sure the former Raider is a good scheme fit.

Pick change; previously A.J. Cann, G

  10. Jacksonville Jaguars: Nick O’Leary, TE, Florida State
Marcedes Lewis has been a huge disappointment since signing his contract, so the Jaguars need an upgrade. Lewis, 31 right after the 2015 NFL Draft, will be due nearly $7 million in the final season of his contract, so Jacksonville may cut him next offseason.

  11. Chicago Bears: Carl Davis, DT, Iowa
More defensive help for the Bears, who couldn’t even stop E.J. Manuel in an embarrassing defeat. Upgrades are needed everywhere.

Pick change; previously Hroniss Grasu, C

  12. Houston Texans: Quandre Diggs, CB, Texas
The Texans had many areas they wanted to fill in the 2014 NFL Draft, so they couldn’t get around to all of them. One need that went ignored was the cornerback position. Houston may opt to upgrade that spot earlier next spring.

Pick change; previously Ray Drew, DE/DT

  13. Baltimore Ravens: Nelson Agholor, WR, USC
Regardless of whether or not the Steve Smith signing pans out – he struggled in the opener outside of catching one long pass – the Ravens know that they have to seriously upgrade the receiver position next spring.

Pick change; previously DeVante Parker, WR

  14. Tennessee Titans: Marcus Peters, CB, Washington
If Coty Sensabaugh and Blidi Wreh-Wilson struggle across from Jason McCourty this year, the Titans will have to find a new starting cornerback.

  15. St. Louis Rams: Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA
Sam Bradford is never going to stay healthy. The Rams should have realized this by now. They’ll have to find a new potential franchise quarterback next spring.

Pick change; previously Dorial Green-Beckham, WR

  16. Carolina Panthers: DeVante Parker, WR, Louisville
The Panthers are concerned that Kevlin Benjamin will see tons of double teams this season because they have nothing else at receiver. That has to be fixed.

Pick change; previously Jaelen Strong, WR

  17. Pittsburgh Steelers: Wayne Lyons, CB, Stanford
How much longer can the Steelers use Ike Taylor as a starting cornerback. He’s terrible.

Pick change; previously Kyler Fackrell, DE/OLB

  18. Minnesota Vikings: Karl Joseph, S, West Virginia
Minnesota’s secondary is so much better now with Captain Munnerlyn added on and Harrison Smith back healthy. However, there’s still a hole next to Smith at one of the safety spots.

Pick change; previously Jaelen Strong, WR

  19. Atlanta Falcons: Lorenzo Mauldin, DE/OLB, Louisville
The Falcons did well with Jake Matthews at No. 6 overall this past May, but they were one pick away from landing Khalil Mack. Here’s their new edge rusher.

Pick change; previously Jordan Jenkins, DE/OLB

  20. Detroit Lions: Christian Covington, DT, Rice
The Lions suddenly need to look at defensive tackles. Ndamukong Suh is entering his contract year, while Nick Fairley has issues with lethargy.

Pick change; previously Carl Davis, DT

  21. Miami Dolphins: Denzel Perryman, ILB, Miami
It’s a bit odd that the Dolphins didn’t address their linebacking corps until the middle of Day 3 of the 2015 NFL Draft, considering the need they have at the position.

  22. Philadelphia Eagles: Jake Fisher, OT, Oregon
Another Oregon player for Chip Kelly. This one can upgrade Todd Herremans at right guard and then move to tackle once Jason Peters retires.

Pick change; previously Benardrick McKinney, ILB

  23. Arizona Cardinals: A.J. Cann, G, South Carolina
Jonathan Cooper has been a mega bust thus far. If he continues to disappoint, the Cardinals may bring in someone to challenge him.

Pick change; previously Josue Matias, G

  24. San Diego Chargers: Hroniss Grasu, C, Oregon
Nick Hardwick said he contemplated retirement last offseason. If he calls it a career, the Chargers will obviously need to find a new center.

Pick change; previously Henry Anderson, DE/DT

  25. Cincinnati Bengals: KeiVarae Russell, CB, Notre Dame
Terence Newman and Pacman Jones have done well in Cincinnati, but neither will be around for much longer. Here’s a long-term replacement.

  26. Indianapolis Colts: Jordan Richards, S, Stanford
Here’s more secondary help for the Colts, who need to upgrade this area if they want to compete with the Broncos and Patriots.

  27. Green Bay Packers: Sean Hickey, OT, Syracuse
Bryan Bulaga, who suffered yet another injury, will be hitting free agency next spring, so the Packers may look into taking a tackle if Derek Sherrod doesn’t show signs of improvement.

Pick change; previously D.J. Humphries, OT

  28. New Orleans Saints: Benardrick McKinney, ILB, Mississippi State
New Orleans’ awful tackling cost the team a victory in Atlanta. The inside linebackers were particularly at fault – mainly David Hawthorne. He’s an upgrade.

Pick change; previously Henry Anderson, DE/DT

  29. New England Patriots: Josue Matias, G, Florida State
I had the Patriots picking a guard in this spot even before the Logan Mankins trade. Dan Connolly will essentially be a 33-year-old free agent next spring, so Bill Belichick may want to draft a guard unless he finds a lesser-rated Rutgers or Florida player.

Pick change; previously Laken Tomlinson, G

  30. San Francisco 49ers: Arik Armstead, DE/DT, Oregon
Both Justin Smith and Ray McDonald will be entering their contract years in 2015. Here’s someone who could start on the defensive line in the future.

Pick change; previously Quandre Diggs, CB

  31. Denver Broncos: Derron Smith, S, Fresno State
Rahim Moore is an impending free agent in March, so here’s a potential replacement for him.

Pick change; previously Karl Joseph, S

  32. Seattle Seahawks: Owamagbe Odighizuwa, DE, UCLA
The Seahawks might have the defensive end position at the top of their needs list entering the 2015 offseason. Chris Clemons is gone, while Cliff Avril will be an impending free agent.

Pick change; previously Trey Flowers, DE/OLB
