2015 NFL Mock Draft: Round 2

Last update: Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015.
Next update: Next week. Follow me @walterfootball for updates.

*** This mock draft will be updated at least once per week (Tuesday afternoons and other times for important events.). Check out old versions of this 2015 NFL Mock Draft in the archived mock draft section. Follow @walterfootball for updates. ***

  1. Tennessee Titans: Josue Matias, G, Florida State
The Titans need to protect their new quarterback. There’s been speculation that the disappointing Andy Levitre will be cut this offseason.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

  2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Arie Kouandjio, G, Alabama
The Buccaneers may also upgrade the interior of their offensive line. They had major problems blocking last year, so they can’t have that happen again with a rookie quarterback under center.

  3. Oakland Raiders: Paul Dawson, LB, TCU
Miles Burris is perhaps the worst starting linebacker in the NFL. The Raiders desperately need an upgrade in the middle of their defense.

  4. Jacksonville Jaguars: Maxx Williams, TE, Minnesota
Marcedes Lewis has been a huge disappointment since signing his contract, so the Jaguars need an upgrade. Lewis, 31 right after the 2015 NFL Draft, will be due nearly $7 million in the final season of his contract, so Jacksonville may cut him this offseason.

  5. New York Jets: Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA
As I wrote in Round 1, the Jets may have to take a chance on Brett Hundley at this spot if they don’t land one of the top two quarterbacks. They don’t really have a choice.

  6. Washington Redskins: Kevin Johnson, CB, Wake Forest
The Redskins obviously need to make multiple upgrades to their woeful secondary. Help is needed at both corner and safety, so Washington can take the best player available at either position.

  7. Chicago Bears: Malcom Brown, DE/DT, Texas
Here are more pieces of Chicago’s new 3-4 defense. Proper five-techniques are needed for the team’s new scheme.

  8. New York Giants: Shaq Thompson, LB, Washington
The Giants have needed help for their linebacking corps for years. Perhaps this will be the year they finally address the position.

  9. St. Louis Rams: Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Oklahoma
Brian Quick looked good prior to his injury, and both Kenny Britt and Stedman Bailey have had their moments in the second half of the season, but the Rams lack a true No. 1 receiver, which is something they can obtain with this selection.

  10. Atlanta Falcons: Tevin Coleman, RB, Indiana
I don’t think the Falcons will go out of their way to draft a running back, but they may have to if someone as talented as Tevin Coleman falls to them. Steven Jackson is as good as gone; both Jacquizz Rodgers and Antone Smith are free agents; and Devonta Freeman wasn’t very impressive as a rookie, so the position will need to be addressed.

  11. Cleveland Browns: Garrett Grayson, QB, Colorado State
Johnny Manziel is more interested in rolling $20s and partying like some normal college kid than being a professional quarterback. He put on the worst quarterbacking performance I have ever seen against the Bengals, so it’s unlikely that he’ll get another shot because he’s an utter embarrassment. Cleveland has to find a new signal-caller.

  12. New Orleans Saints: Benardrick McKinney, LB, Mississippi State
More upgrades for the Saints’ defense. The team needs a major boost in the middle of its stop unit, as Curtis Lofton has been a major disappointment for them.

Pick change; previously Alex Carter, CB

  13. Minnesota Vikings: Jaelen Strong, WR, Arizona State
The Vikings will definitely think about bringing in another receiver to both serve as a competition for apparent bust Cordarrelle Patterson and be a successor for Greg Jennings.

  14. San Francisco 49ers: A.J. Cann, G, South Carolina
Mike Iupati is an impending free agent, while Alex Boone will be entering his contract year in 2015. The 49ers will be looking for some line help this offseason.

  15. Miami Dolphins: Mario Edwards, DE/DT, Florida State
Jared Odrick played so well this year that he’ll command lots of money in free agency this upcoming spring (go here for our NFL Free Agent Rankings.) The Dolphins may have to find a new defensive tackle as a consequence.

  16. San Diego Chargers: Jordan Phillips, NT, Oklahoma
San Diego doesn’t have a quality nose tackle, which would explain why the team was just mediocre against the run.

  17. Kansas City Chiefs: Jeremiah Putasi, OT, Utah
The Chiefs had pass protection issues this past season – only six teams surrendered more sacks – and I doubt Andy Reid will pass on an offensive lineman in the first couple of rounds.

  18. Buffalo Bills: Ameer Abdullah, RB, Nebraska
The Bills may want to look into addressing the running back position, which is what I have happening in my 2016 NFL Mock Draft. Fred Jackson is done, C.J. Spiller is finished in Buffalo, and Bryce Brown has not lived up to expectations.

  19. Houston Texans: Phillip Dorsett, WR, Miami
It’s unknown how much longer Andre Johnson will last, but the Texans could look into adding a future No. 2 wideout across from DeAndre Hopkins. Phillip Dorsett has moved up an entire round after a tremendous Senior Bowl.

Pick change; previously Denzel Perryman, ILB

  20. Philadelphia Eagles: Nate Orchard, DE/OLB, Utah
The Eagles have to fix their secondary, but they also need to look into finding a new edge rusher. Brandon Graham will be gone, while Trent Cole, 33 in October, won’t be with the team much longer.

  21. Cincinnati Bengals: Carl Davis, DT, Iowa
Domata Peko has not played well this year, so the Bengals may want to consider finding some help for the interior of their defensive line.

Pick change; previously Corey Robinson, OT

  22. Detroit Lions: Tre Jackson, G, Florida State
The Lions are desperate for multiple upgrades on the offensive line; the offense sputtered this past season because the unit couldn’t protect Matthew Stafford.

  23. Arizona Cardinals: Marcus Peters, CB, Washington
Marcus Peters was dismissed from the team this past season. The Cardinals have taken chances on troubled players before, so perhaps they’d give Peters a shot. Peters, who has top-15 talent, could fill in for Antonio Cromartie if the stud corner isn’t re-signed.

  24. Pittsburgh Steelers: Lorenzo Mauldin, DE/OLB, Louisville
The Steelers hate drafting edge rushers early on because of scheme transition issues, but they really need to upgrade their pass rush. It was better at the end of the season, but Pittsburgh can’t count on James Harrison playing well forever.

  25. Carolina Panthers: Rashad Greene, WR, Florida State
The Panthers likely will select the top available player from the tackle or receiver position in the first few rounds. Those are their two big areas of need. They have to find someone to draw attention away from Kelvin Benjamin.

  26. Baltimore Ravens: Nelson Agholor, WR, USC
Steve Smith looked done in 2013, but he actually tried this past season, and it paid off for Baltimore. However, Steve Smith won’t last much longer, while Torrey Smith is an impending free agent, so the Ravens will have to find a new receiver.

  27. Denver Broncos: Devin Funchess, TE, Michigan
Julius Thomas is a free agent, and considering Denver’s cap issues, he may not be back next year. He’s a replacement if he leaves.

  28. Dallas Cowboys: Jaquiski Tartt, S, Samford
The Cowboys are still hurting in the secondary, and they could use an upgrade at both corner and safety.

  29. Indianapolis Colts: Quinten Rollins, CB, Miami of Ohio
Greg Toler performed well in the playoffs, but the Colts could use a better No. 2 corner. Quinten Rollins is another player whose stock is rising.

Pick change; previously T.J. Yeldon, RB

  30. Green Bay Packers: Ellis McCarthy, NT, UCLA
Both B.J. Raji and Letroy Guion are free agents. At least one won’t be back, which means the Packers will need another big body up front.

  31. Seattle Seahawks: Christian Covington, DT, Rice
The Seahawks were really missing Brandon Mebane. They need some help at defensive tackle, even once Mebane returns from his hamstring injury next year.

  32. New England Patriots: Michael Bennett, DT, Ohio State
There currently isn’t a huge need for a defensive tackle, but Vince Wilfork, Chris Jones and Sealver Siliga will all be heading into their contract years by the 2016 season, so this is a selection for the future.
