2013 NFL Mock Draft: Round 4

Last update: Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013. Major changes in all 4 rounds.
Next update: Next week. Follow me @walterfootball for updates.

You can find the complete seven-round 2013 NFL Draft Order by clicking the link.

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Sean Porter, DE/OLB, Texas A&M
Because Gene Smith was fired, the Jaguars don’t have any allegiance to second-round rookie Andre Branch, who has shown nothing thus far. Sean Porter could function like fellow Aggie Von Miller, playing strongside linebacker on normal downs and rushing the quarterback in passing situations.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

Pick change; previously Ryan Swope, WR

  2. Kansas City Chiefs: Brandon Jenkins, DE/OLB, Florida State
The Chiefs don’t have much depth behind Tamba Hali and Justin Houston – as they discovered in the Week 1 loss to Atlanta – so they could spend an early 2013 NFL Draft pick on a rush linebacker.

Pick change; previously Jamie Collins, DE/OLB

  3. Oakland Raiders: Everett Dawkins, DT, Florida State
Richard Seymour’s contract will be voided at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Tommy Kelly is a bum who doesn’t care about winning, as evidenced when he laughed after prolonging a San Diego drive with a pair of offside penalties. He’s a thug who has played so sluggishly this year in the rare instances when he wasn’t trying to injure the opposing quarterback, so there’s no chance he’s going to see a penny of his $6.5 million salary in 2013. He’s as good as gone, and 15-year-old head coach Dennis Allen lost all respect in the locker room for not cutting him after the opener.

Pick change; previously Menelik Watson, OT

  4. Philadelphia Eagles: Jordan Hill, DT, Penn State
Even if Cullen Jenkins is back next year – he’s due a $1 million roster bonus in March – it’ll likely be his last season in Philadelphia because he’s set to make $4.5 million (with a $2 million roster bonus) in 2014. The Eagles will need someone to play alongside Fletcher Cox.

  5. Minnesota Vikings: Zac Dysert, QB, Miami of Ohio
I think we can confirm that Joe Webb doesn’t have much of a future at quarterback. Christian Ponder may not either; he’s terribly inconsistent and injury-prone, so the Vikings should look into drafting a quarterback in the fourth round because they have an extra pick.

  6. Arizona Cardinals: Arthur Brown, LB, Kansas State
Paris Lenon can’t be allowed to start again. He was awful last year. He’s a free agent anyway.

Pick change; previously Jon Bostic, ILB

  7. Cleveland Browns: Dion Sims, TE, Michigan State
Ben Watson is a free agent, while Jordan Cameron, drafted by the old regime, hasn’t shown much yet. The Browns will likely search for a tight end upgrade this offseason.

  8. Buffalo Bills: Jon Bostic, ILB, Florida
Kelvin Sheppard was a big disappointment in his sophomore campaign. An upgrade is needed at middle linebacker.

Pick change; previously Kevin Reddick, ILB

  9. New York Jets: Kenny Stills, WR, Oklahoma
New York desperately needs an upgrade at wideout for obvious reasons. Santonio Holmes is a bum, while Stephen Hill hasn’t really shown much yet.

  10. Tennessee Titans: Montee Ball, RB, Wisconsin
Chris Johnson’s production picked up at the end of the year, but he still did a ton of dancing at the line of scrimmage. The Titans should add a mid-round running back just in case CJ2K sucks again.

Pick change; previously Levine Toiolo, TE

  11. Carolina Panthers: Quinton Patton, WR, Louisiana Tech
Steve Smith will turn 34 a couple of weeks after the 2013 NFL Draft. The Panthers will need to think about finding a new No. 1 wideout for the future. I’m also not a big Brandon LaFell believer, so an upgrade across from Smith wouldn’t hurt.

  12. New Orleans Saints: Jelani Jenkins, OLB, Florida
The Saints have to keep adding defensive pieces. Jonathan Vilma can’t play anymore. He needs to be upgraded.

Pick change; previously Akeem Spence, DT

  13. San Diego Chargers: Denard Robinson, KR, Michigan
This is a good spot for Denard Robinson, as both of San Diego’s return specialists will be free agents in March. Robinson could also help with some gimmick plays on offense.

  14. Miami Dolphins: Tharold Simon, CB, LSU
I could see the Dolphins doubling up on the cornerback position in the first half of the 2013 NFL Draft if Sean Smith leaves in free agency.

Pick change; previously Shawn Williams, S

  15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Justin Pugh, OT, Syracuse
Donald Penn struggled to close out the year, while Demar Dotson isn’t very good. The Buccaneers will be looking to bring in another tackle.

  16. St. Louis Rams: Levine Toiolo, TE, Stanford
Lance Kendricks had an issue with drops as a rookie. He may resolve that in 2012, but if he doesn’t, the Rams could be looking for a new tight end. Remember, this regime has no allegiance to Kendricks.

Pick change; previously Jonathan Brown, OLB

  17. Dallas Cowboys: E.J. Manuel, QB, Florida State
Tony Romo will turn 33 just prior to the 2013 NFL Draft. The Cowboys will have to think about bringing in a young quarterback.

  18. Pittsburgh Steelers: Robert Alford, CB, Southeastern Louisiana
As I quickly noted in my 2013 Pittsburgh Steelers Offseason Needs, “The Steelers will need some cornerback help if Keenan Lewis leaves via free agency.”

Pick change; previously Aaron Dobson, WR

  19. New York Giants: Leon McFadden, CB, San Diego State
Prince Amukamara looks like the real deal, but the Giants need help across from him. Corey Webster, who was torched often this past year, will likely be cut this spring because he’ll be due $7 million in 2013.

Pick change; previously Gerald Hodges, LB

  20. Chicago Bears: Travis Kelce, TE, Cincinnati
Jon Gruden highlighted the fact that the Bears haven’t had a reliable pass-catching tight end since Greg Olsen was on the team. They jettisoned Olsen because Mike Martz hates receiving tight ends, but Martz is long gone, so it’s time for them to go back to that. Jay Cutler would really benefit from having a dependable target over the middle of the field. After all, Cutler can’t keep throwing it to Brandon Marshall on every single play.

  21. Cincinnati Bengals: Michael Buchanan, DE/OLB, Illinois
Michael Johnson is a free agent. Even if he’s retained, the Bengals could use depth at the position.

  22. Washington Redskins: Phillip Thomas, S, Fresno State
More help for the Redskins’ secondary. Brandon Meriweather cannot be relied upon to stay healthy, and it’s not like he was a Pro Bowl talent anyway.

  23. Minnesota Vikings: Hugh Thornton, G, Illinois
The Vikings could stand to bolster in the interior of their offensive line, as neither Charlie Johnson nor Brandon Fusco played well at guard this year.

  24. Indianapolis Colts: Brian Winters, G, Kent State
If you’ve watched the Colts at all in the final couple of weeks to close out the season, you know that their offensive line must be upgraded because Andrew Luck constantly had defenders in his face. The weakest of Luck’s blockers is right guard Mike McGlynn, who was guilty of four sacks in the final four games.

Pick change; previously Kwame Geathers, NT

  25. Green Bay Packers: Jamie Collins, DE/OLB, Southern Miss
The Packers need to make sure Erik Walden isn’t on the field next year. He is terrible. He’s a free agent anyway.

Pick change; previously Travis Long, DE/OLB

  26. Seattle Seahawks: Gavin Escobar, TE, San Diego State
Here’s some more help for Russell Wilson. Despite Zach Miller’s heroic conversion on third-and-long early against Washington, the Seahawks could look into bringing in a new tight end.

  27. Houston Texans: David Bakhtiari, OT, Colorado
The Texans were interested in bringing in a right tackle early in the 2012 NFL Draft, but they never got the chance. Well, here’s their opportunity. The position will have to be addressed if the currently injured Rashad Butler can’t properly fill in for Eric Winston.

Pick change; previously Ricky Wagner, OT

  28. Denver Broncos: Mike Gillislee, RB, Florida
I don’t think Knowshon Moreno can be trusted. Willis McGahee is old. Ronnie Hillman’s just a change-of-pace back.

  29. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Stepfan Taylor, RB, Stanford
Greg Schiano doesn’t really trust LeGarrette Blount as a No. 2 back, so he could opt to choose a new one in the middle rounds of the 2013 NFL Draft.

  30. Atlanta Falcons: Travis Long, DE/OLB, Washington State
The overpaid Ray Edwards was recently cut. Meanwhile, John Abraham will turn 35 a week after the 2013 NFL Draft. Defensive end will be a priority early in the 2013 NFL Draft, and the Falcons may even double dip at the position in the first few rounds.

Pick change; previously Stansly Maponga, DE/OLB

  31. Baltimore Ravens: Gerald Hodges, LB, Penn State
Ray Lewis is retiring, while Dannell Ellerbe will be a free agent this spring. The Ravens have to find some help at inside linebacker.

Pick change; previously David Bakhtiari, OT

  32. San Francisco 49ers: Le’Veon Bell, RB, Michigan State
The 49ers signed a power back in Brandon Jacobs this past offseason, but that didn’t work out too well. Perhaps this attempt will be more successful.

Pick change; previously Joe Kruger, DE/DT
