2013 NFL Mock Draft: Round 3

Last update: Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013. Major changes in all 4 rounds.
Next update: Next week. Follow me @walterfootball for updates.

You can find the complete seven-round 2013 NFL Draft Order by clicking the link.

  1. Kansas City Chiefs: William Gholston, DE/DT, Michigan State
Glenn Dorsey will be a free agent in March and Tyson Jackson is due more than $14 million next year, so it appears as though their disappointing tenures in Kansas City are coming to an end.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

Pick change; previously Desmond Trufant, CB

  2. Jacksonville Jaguars: Oday Aboushi, OT, Virginia
Cameron Bradfield was overmatched this year. The Jaguars need need to find an upgrade for their new quarterback.

Pick change; previously Gabe Jackson, G

  3. Detroit Lions: Khaseem Greene, LB, Rutgers
Both of Detroit’s starting outside linebackers are set to hit free agency. Help will obviously be needed if either Justin Durant or DeAndre Levy walk away.

Pick change; previously Blidi Wreh-Wilson, CB

  4. Oakland Raiders: Blidi Wreh-Wilson, CB, Connecticut
The Raiders were without their two starting cornerbacks most of this season. Ronald Bartell was released, while Shawntae Spencer just isn’t very good.

Pick change; previously Kyle Long, OT

  5. Philadelphia Eagles: Will Davis, CB, Utah State
Brandon Boykin was a nice pick in the fourth round, but he won’t be enough if Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie leaves via free agency, as Philadelphia wants three high-level cornerbacks. Nnamdi Asomugha will be cut as soon as the season is over. He’s been absolutely terrible.

Pick change; previously Blidi Wreh-Wilson, CB

  6. Cleveland Browns: Landry Jones, QB, Oklahoma
The Browns have a new front office, so they’ll want to draft a quarterback in the middle rounds if Colt McCoy is traded.

  7. Arizona Cardinals: Brennan Williams, OT, North Carolina
It doesn’t matter who the quarterback is; if the Cardinals can’t pass protect, that signal-caller will struggle.

Pick change; previously Chris Faulk, OT

  8. Tennessee Titans: Travis Frederick, G/C, Wisconsin
Chris Johnson has finally regained CJ2K form in recent weeks, but that doesn’t mean the Titans can’t use an upgrade or two on the offensive line. Help is needed on the interior, and Travis Frederick can play multiple positions up front.

  9. Buffalo Bills: Corey Lemonier, DE/OLB, Auburn
The Bills spent tons of money on Mario Williams and Mark Anderson this offseason, but while the former has picked up his play lately, the latter has been dreadful whenever he’s been on the field. Buffalo needs to put as much pressure on the quarterback if it wants to unseat the Patriots in the division.

Pick change; previously Tank Carradine, DE

  10. New York Jets: Joseph Randle, RB, Oklahoma State
The Jets need to give their next quarterback some weapons to work with. Both the receiver and tight end positions need to be upgraded. Running back must be addressed as well. Shonn Greene’s a free agent, but he wasn’t very good anyway.

Pick change; previously Andre Ellington, RB

  11. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jamar Taylor, CB, Boise State
The Buccaneers don’t ever shy away from doubling up on positions. They may do so at cornerback, as this was a huge area of need even before the Aqib Talib trade.

Pick change; previously Will Davis, CB

  12. San Francisco 49ers: T.J. McDonald, S, USC
Donte Whitner hasn’t been very good this year. Dashon Goldson, meanwhile, was slapped with a franchise tag this prior offseason. The 49ers will need a replacement if they can’t sign him to a long-term deal.

Pick change; previously Corey Lemonier, DE/OLB

  13. New Orleans Saints: John Simon, DE, Ohio State
The Saints didn’t get much pressure on the quarterback this past year. Cameron Jordan improved in this department over the second half of the season, but Will Smith looked like a shell of his former self. He’s due $10 million in 2013, so he obviously won’t be back.

Pick change; previously Justin Pugh, OT

  14. San Diego Chargers: Tyler Bray, QB, Tennessee
Philip Rivers will be a free agent after the 2014 season. Will the Chargers re-sign him to a long-term deal if he continues to choke in the clutch and show signs of regression? They should probably bring in a young quarterback as insurance.

  15. Miami Dolphins: Chris Faulk, OT, LSU
What if the Dolphins can’t retain Jake Long but don’t take Eric Fisher at No. 12 overall? They’ll move Jonathan Martin to left tackle, which will open up a big need on the right side.

Pick change; previously Justin Gilbert, CB

  16. St. Louis Rams: Bacarri Rambo, S, Georgia
The Rams’ defense was great, but they have a couple of areas they need to address. One such spot is the safety position. Craig Dahl must be upgraded.

Pick change; previously Da’Rick Rogers, WR

  17. Pittsburgh Steelers: Chase Thomas, DE/OLB, Stanford
James Harrison may not be back next year. He’ll be due $6.6 million as a 35-year-old who is having trouble staying healthy. The Steelers may spend an early pick on a rush linebacker.

Pick change; previously Cobi Hamilton, WR

  18. Dallas Cowboys: Alvin Bailey, G, Arkansas
The interior of Dallas’ offensive line is an abomination. The front office found two downgrades at guard last offseason. Hopefully it finds better players this time around.

  19. New York Giants: Everett Dawkins, DT, Florida State
Marvin Austin has shown nothing thus far in his career, so the Giants may bring in another young defensive tackle with Rocky Bernard set to hit free agency.

  20. Miami Dolphins: Jordan Reed, TE, Florida
The Dolphins spent a third-round pick on a tight end last year, but it’s unlikely that Michael Egnew will be on the roster in September. Ryan Tannehill needs a real intermediate option.

Pick change; previously Arthur Brown, LB

  21. Minnesota Vikings: Arthur Brown, LB, Kansas State
Jasper Brinkley needs to be upgraded, so the Vikings will be looking for middle linebacker help at some point this offseason. Manti Te’o, Alec Ogletree and Kevin Minter are strong possibilities in Round 1. If Minnesota takes someone else, a prospect like Jon Bostic would make sense at this juncture.

Pick change; previously Jon Bostic, ILB

  22. Cincinnati Bengals: Sean Porter, DE/OLB, Texas A&M
The Bengals have to make some changes in their linebacking corps, one of which is at strongside linebacker. Manny Lawson is a free agent, so here’s a replacement if he leaves.

Pick change; previously Chase Thomas, DE/OLB

  23. Washington Redskins: Cobi Hamilton, WR, Arkansas
Robert Griffin needs someone to throw to besides Pierre Garcon. Santana Moss will be 34 in June.

Pick change; previously Bacarri Rambo, S

  24. Indianapolis Colts: Brandon Jenkins, DE/OLB, Florida State
Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis won’t be around much longer. The Colts need to find new players who can rush the passer.

  25. Seattle Seahawks: Tank Carradine, DE, Florida State
Chris Clemons tore his ACL. He’ll be 32 in October, and he’s due $13.5 million over the next two years. Here’s some insurance just in case he doesn’t recover fully.

Pick change; previously Sean Porter, DE/OLB

  26. Green Bay Packers: Markus Wheaton, WR, Oregon State
Greg Jennings will be a free agent in March. He’s proven to be unreliable in terms of staying healthy, so the Packers may choose not to re-sign him. If so, they may target a receiver early in the 2013 NFL Draft.

  27. Houston Texans: Andre Ellington, RB, Clemson
This doesn’t fill any sort of current need, but Ben Tate will be a free agent after next season, so the Texans may want to trade him because they can’t exactly pay top dollar to two running backs.

Pick change; previously Montee Ball, RB

  28. Denver Broncos: Robert Lester, S, Alabama
As you may have seen in that playoff game, safety help is needed. Rahim Moore looked dumb on that 70-yard touchdown, but it’s Michael Adams who isn’t very good. He’s going to be a 32-year-old entering his contract season.

  29. Baltimore Ravens: Tyrann Mathieu, CB, LSU
The Ravens suddenly have glaring issues at cornerback. Lardarius Webb tore an ACL for the second time in his career, while Cary Williams is a free agent. The Ravens have taken a chance on another troubled cornerback, so they’ll consider Tyrann Mathieu.

  30. San Francisco 49ers: Tharold Simon, CB, LSU
Teams are always looking for cornerback depth, especially if they have extra picks. Besides, Carlos Rogers isn’t playing as well this season. He’s been solid at times, but has been inconsistent.

Pick change; previously Ryan Swope, WR

  31. New England Patriots: Datone Jones, DE, UCLA
Chandler Jones has had a monstrous rookie campaign thus far, but the Patriots need someone across from him to get to the quarterback, as Jermaine Cunningham has been a disappointment. Undrafted free agent Justin Francis broke out in the season finale, so perhaps he could be seen as the solution with more strong performances.

Pick change; previously William Gholston, DE/DT

  32. Atlanta Falcons: Montee Ball, RB, Wisconsin
Despite how he performed against the Seahawks in the playoffs, Michael Turner is done. He’s looked like he’s been running in quicksand for most of this season, so he won’t be on the roster much longer.

Pick change; previously Eddie Lacy, RB
