Back to 2013 NFL Draft Rumors: Pick 1-16
-

April 15: Peter King wrote that he agrees with the connection between the Steelers and Jarvis Jones.
April 8: “Talked to 5 scouts on UGA’s Jarvis Jones. All said similar things: We knew he’d work out poorly. But he’s a football player. Think mid-1st.” – Ian Rapoport
April 2: “I’ve had him mentioned as a possible first round pick for them.” – Steelers source on Jarvis Jones. It’s worth noting that Gil Brandt removed Jones from the first round of his 2013 NFL Mock Draft.
March 26: Gerry Dulac said the Steelers really like Cordarrelle Patterson. They are also hesitant to take a rush linebacker in the first round because of the conversion change.
March 19: Mike Tomlin discussed the need for a running back, but this is an area he can easily address in Rounds 2 or 3.
March 3: Dick LeBeau told the media that he wants to bring in a young safety. The Steelers met with Kenny Vaccaro at the Combine. – Behind the Steel Curtain
Feb. 28: “If LSU’s Kevin Minter (6-0, 246) is available at No. 17, do not be surprised to see the Steelers take him with their No. 1 pick. That is more likely than an outside linebacker in the first round.” – Gerry Dulac
Feb. 25: Word is the Pittsburgh Steelers drooling over Ezekial Ansah/BYU as a 3-4 OLB. – Tony Pauline
Jan. 27: “Scratch LB Alec Ogletree off the list of candidates to be drafted by the #Steelers in the first round.” – Ed Bouchette.
Jan. 27: The Steelers plan on drafting a quarterback at some point. – RantSports.com

April 22: “The Cowboys are NOT looking to move down. They are definitely interested in trading up or staying at 18.” – Jeff Sullivan, DallasCowboys.com

April 19: Mike Fisher of FOX Sports Southwest noted Sylvester Williams as a wild card for the Cowboys’ No. 18 pick.
April 17: Cowboys’ writer Bryan Broaddus said that he could see the Cowboys taking Eric Reid at No. 18 if the “top guys” are off the board.
April 14: Cowboys’ writer Bryan Broaddus said that it’s not likely that the Cowboys take D.J. Fluker at 18. He also said that a Chance Warmack-Eric Reid pairing is more likely than a Kenny Vaccaro-Larry Warford one. Broaddus also said the Cowboys like Kyle Long.
April 11: “I will change the #Cowboys pick in my next mock. I think Vaccaro interest is smoke. Kiffin excelled with a bunch of mid-round safeties in TB.” – Charlie Campbell
April 11: Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram tweeted that the Cowboys love Michigan State running back Le’Veon Bell.
April 9: “Heading into the draft, look for safety to continue to be a high priority.” – DallasCowboys.com
April 5: “I know most people don’t believe that will be the case [that Chance Warmack will be available at No. 18], but it wouldn’t be completely shocking based on some of the whispers around the league.” – Adam Schefter
April 2: Tony Pauline says that Jonathan Cooper is one of Dallas’ top first-round targets.
March 26: “Jonathan Cooper is drawing heavy interest from the Titans and Cowboys.” – Tony Pauline
March 10: The Cowboys value Vaccaro immensely but whether or not he’ll fall to No. 18 is uncertain … If Vaccaro is still available at 15 or 16, then the Cowboys might need to trade up and draft him.” – Calvin Watkins, ESPN Dallas
Feb. 11: “DL or OL best player available” at 18. – Bryan Broaddus.
Jan. 27: “The Cowboys will not be taking John Jenkins according to Cowboys’ writer Bryan Broaddus. He doesn’t think Alex Okafor will be the pick either.” – Rotoworld
-
New York Giants:
April 24: Adam Caplan believes the Giants will draft a cornerback or defensive end at No. 19.
April 24: “Intriguing name to watch for #NYG: Miss State CB Darius Slay. Has visited, says Giants have been in touch ‘a lot lately.'” – Art Stapleton, The Record
April 23: Tony Pauline listed the Giants as one of Tank Carradine’s “top suitors.”
April 12: “If Warmack does start to slide I am told the New York Giants would love the opportunity to select him as they feel hes a great fit for their system. Moving towards the draft it seems one of the Giants early targets, Warmacks teammate DJ Fluker, will be out of reach.” – Tony Pauline
April 6: “As one NFC personnel man said Friday morning, the 20th-overall pick might be ‘a tad rich for Te’o.'” – ESPN, which also applies to the Giants.
Jan. 27: A Giants’ scout was overheard saying he likes Lane Johnson. “That’s my left tackle,” he said. – Giants101.com
-
Chicago Bears:
April 26: Tony Pauline tweeted that the Bears are looking hard at Sio Moore.
April 26: “Another scout I trust says he thinks William & Mary CB B.W. Webb would be solid fit for #Bears.” – Brad Biggs
April 25: “Hearing Arizona and Chicago want Mike Glennon. Both will be jockeying for him early in 2nd round. Neither want to use 1st on him.” – Pete Schrager, FOX Sports
April 24: “Interesting #Bears are working out Mike Glennon on eve of NFL Draft. But surprised a source told me #Bears looking “hard” at QBs in draft.” – Sean Jensen
April 24: When asked which pick they feel strongly about that doesn’t involve their own team, one of our sources said “Desmond Trufant to Chicago.”
April 19: General manager Phil Emery was at the Alabama-Texas A&M game, according to ESPN Chicago’s Michael C. Wright.
April 14: The Chicago Tribune’s Dan Pompei has mocked Tyler Eifert to the Bears. “If [Alec] Ogletree is gone, they could go for Eifert’s college teammate Manti Te’o. Tight end isn’t a need, but Eifert would make the offense better.”
April 11: “While it’s unclear what that number is for 2013, NFL sources count former Stanford tight end Zach Ertz among the group of players the Bears are focusing on, with one source saying he’s “very much in play” to be the club’s choice.” – Jeff Dickerson, ESPN Chicago
April 6: “As one NFC personnel man said Friday morning, the 20th-overall pick might be ‘a tad rich for Te’o.'” – ESPN
April 4: “I’ve been told that despite the big contract they handed Martellus Bennett last month the Chicago Bears would still consider a tight end in round one.” – Tony Pauline
April 3: Mel Kiper believes the Bears will draft Manti Te’o.
Jan. 27: The Chicago Tribune reports the Bears will be searching for a vertical threat at receiver this offseason. – Rotoworld
-
Cincinnati Bengals:
April 24: We just received word from a reliable source saying, “The Bengals are all in on Eddie Lacy.”
April 24: With all of the safeties, save for Kenny Vaccaro still available, Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer mocked Eric Reid to the Bengals.

April 8: The Bengals are “now inclined to see if they can find a cheaper and younger replacement for Smith via the draft.” – ProFootballTalk
March 3: Joe Reedy has the Bengals picking Kenny Vaccaro in his recent 2013 NFL Mock Draft. – Cincinnati Enquirer
Feb. 27: @joereedy chances bengals go Manti Teo first round? Slim
Jan. 27: Jay Gruden confirmed that the Bengals’ priority this offseason is to find a “game changer” at running back – Bengals.com
Jan. 27: “The Bengals figure to be in the market for a young quarterback with backup Bruce Gradkowski headed to free agency, but they aren’t looking to push Andy Dalton out of a job so they probably won’t use their early picks on one. But they also want someone competent back there, a guy that can develop into a factor if called upon, which may make the mid rounds rather interesting.” – Bengals.com
-
Washington Redskins:
Jan. 27: The Redskins top offseason priorities are believed to be safety, cornerback and right tackle. – Washington Post
-
Minnesota Vikings:
April 25: John Clayton said that the Vikings would like to find a way to land Manti Te’o.
April 23: Tony Pauline listed the Vikings as one of Tank Carradine’s “top suitors.”
April 21: “So even though the Vikings have legitimate concerns at middle linebacker, wide receiver and the defensive line, and two first-round picks with which to address them, don’t be surprised if they take a cornerback near the top of the draft.” – Ben Goessling, Pioneer Press.
April 20: The Pionerr Press’ Ben Gosseling mocked Sylvester Williams and Manti Te’o to the Vikings. On Williams: “Can play either tackle position and institute Williams Wall 2.0 until he replaces Kevin Williams.” And on Te’o: “Vikings have spent quite a bit of time with him. They need a middle linebacker, and while Teo has flaws, he fits their scheme, particularly in pass coverage. Rick Spielman gets another Notre Dame guy.”
April 18: Ian Rapoport said that he’s hearing the Vikings will try to trade up, possibly targeting Tavon Austin or Cordarrelle Patterson.
April 18: Ben Goessling of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that the Vikings have interest in Florida State defensive end Tank Carradine.
April 8: “I’d like to believe there’s going to be [a middle linebacker] there for us. There’s some good players at the linebacker spot, and we have a need to improve our depth and find a middle linebacker. Hopefully, we’ll get the right guy.” – Leslie Frazier
March 26: “Sylvester Williams is drawing heavy interest from Minnesota.” – Tony Pauline
March 26: “Most people around the league don’t believe he will get out of the first round of the draft. And I think you start about midway through the first round with teams that have needs at the inside linebacker position.” – Adam Schefter, who mentioned the Vikings as a possibility. However…
March 26: We’ve been told by a team needing an inside linebacker drafting in the 20-32 range that they will not take Manti Te’o. Issues with the locker room; too much of a distraction.
March 18: Adam Schefter said Tavon Austin will not make it to Minnesota’s pick.
March 18: Leslie Frazier said that the Vikings “want to potentially draft someone” to play middle linebacker. – Tom Pelissero, 1500ESPN
-
Indianapolis Colts:
-
Seattle Seahawks:
-
Green Bay Packers:
April 14: The Chicago Tribune’s Dan Pompei wrote that SMU defensive end Margus Hunt is the type of player Packers’ general manager Ted Thompson likes.
April 7: The Packers are taking a “long look” at San Jose State lineman David Quessenberry, according to the Green Bay Press Gazette. The Packers prefer linemen who can handle multiple positions, and Quessenberry fits the blocking scheme perfectly.
-
Houston Texans:
April 16: “I’m not a fan of Menelik Watson’s. I think he’s pure projection player at this point who needs tons of work. However, he’s going inside 27.” – Lance Zeirlein, Houston Chronicle
April 16: This only has to do with a late-round pick, but the Texans don’t like North Carolina’s Kevin Reddick. They think he’s stiff and lacks instincts. They’ve given him a sixth-round grade.
April 10: I was told by a reliable source that the Texans will NOT consider Alec Ogletree with the 27th pick because of character concerns.
April 8: John McClain of the Houston Chronicle has the Texans drafting Terrance Williams at No. 27 overall. Williams would be a major reach there, but the fact remains that Houston is hungry for receiver help.
March 21: “I assure you they’re going to add a wide receiver or two in this draft. Somebody that can run and run fast. Their highest priority.” – Chris Mortensen
March 6: Despte owner Bob McNair hinting the Texans would be looking at an inside linebacker at No. 27, the Houston Chronicle’s John McClain was adamant that Houston would not be drafting one with that pick. The Texans do like Kevin Minter, but perhaps they believe they can secure him in the second round. Te’o, meanwhile, will not be considered.
March 5: Antonio Smith: Texans’ locker room would laugh at Manti Te’o – Pro Football Talk
Feb. 10: Well, we have a number of areas that we would like to strengthen ourselves. We need more depth at the inside linebacker (position), we need more depth with our offensive line interior and we need another wide receiver and we could use another cornerback or free safety. Thats it. Everything else is really in good shape. Weve got the core group together, we just need to add a few more pieces here or there, and I think we can do that through the draft. . If we had an outstanding wide receiver who was available at that point in time, I dont doubt wed take him. If there was a football player that was a better player that was an inside linebacker than the wide receiver thats available, wed take him. Were going to take the best player thats available. – owner Bob McNair on HoustonTexans.com
Feb. 3: WalterFootball.com has heard from sources that the Texans would prefer to draft for their defensive front seven and offensive line. Their zone blocking system probably won’t require them to go with an offensive lineman early, but they could target some young depth there in the mid-rounds. Houston has the mindset of going with the best player available, and the front of the defense sounds like an area they would prefer to address. Inside linebacker and the defensive line are the top priorities in the front seven. – Charlie Campbell
Jan. 27: General manager Rick Smith was at the LSU-Alabama game (Kevin Minter, Jesse Williams, Bennie Logan, Sam Montgomery, Barrett Jones, Eric Reid). – Source
-
Denver Broncos:
April 20: “The word is, Denver likes Jamar Taylor more than some other cornerbacks.” – Bill Williamson, ESPN
April 16: Elvis Dumervil on welcoming Manti Te’o to the locker room: “When Manti comes to our locker room, I would make it light, I’d make it fun, I’d make him comfortable.” (Via MileHighReport.com)
April 14: The Denver Post’s Jeff Legwold has mocked Tank Carradine to the Broncos: “The Broncos would look at a nice class of CBs here, but they still need to address Elvis Dumervil’s departure on the depth chart. If they like the medical exams, the pick would be Florida State DE Tank Carradine.”
April 10: “I’d say there’s a 33 percent chance the Broncos will draft a running back in the first round.” – Mike Klis
April 8: “Broncos won’t take a QB in first 3 rounds.” – Mike Klis
March 24: “Know this: The Broncos will draft a cornerback, running back and defensive lineman in the first three rounds. Maybe in that order.” – Mike Klis, Denver Post
Feb. 21: “Positions the Broncos will be looking to strengthen this offseason are cornerback, defensive tackle, interior offensive line, running back and wide receiver.” – Denver Post
-
New England Patriots:
April 8: “Makes sense the Pats worked out Boise State CB Jamar Taylor. They’ve been all over him through the process.” – Jeff Howe, Boston Herald
March 6: The Patriots have shown interest in Mississippi State cornerback Johnthan Banks according to Tony Pauline.
-
Atlanta Falcons:
April 25: Ian Rapoport reports that the Falcons could be moving up for Barkevious Mingo.
April 24: “Source I trust tells me Atlanta trying to trade up to get one of two top CBs in draft — MIlliner or Rhodes.” – Clark Judge, CBS
April 24: “Continue to hear Jamar Taylor/CB/Boise St very likely to Falcons @ 30” – Tony Pauline
April 22: Our own source said that Dee Milliner and Dion Jordan are the targets for an Atlanta trade up, but there probably won’t be a crazy Julio Jones-type move.
April 22: Peter King wrote that the Falcons are targeting Sheldon Richardson with a possible trade up.
April 17: “Hearing the Falcons are trying to trade up from number 30 in the first round” – Peter King
Jan. 27: Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff stated that the only way Atlanta will take a DE is if they can trade up for an elite on or if one falls. He seems much more focused on the OL and WR positions. – Atlanta radio interview.
-
San Francisco 49ers:
April 26: “Hearing @49ers really like Zach Ertz at 34. Nice combo w/ Vernon Davis.” – Gil Brandt
April 25: “Smart speculation for Falcons trade up: D.J. Hayden or Jamar Taylor. Both fit what Mike Nolan wants in CB with adaptability.” – Adam Caplan
April 25: “Increasing chatter of SF coming up into top 15. 49ers looking to strengthen an already tough defense.” – Adam Schefter
April 24: “Stay put, and safety or cornerback or maybe even a wide receiver makes sense.” – Matt Barrows
April 21: “It’s believed by at least one GM that the Niners are interested in moving up to the 13th or 14th overall pick. … The talk around the league is that the 49ers would like to get a defensive lineman who can eventually step in for veteran Justin Smith.” – Jason Cole, Yahoo!
April 17: “49ers to send contingent to look at FSU defensive lineman Tank Carradine.” – Matt Barrows, Sacramento Bee
April 17: “I’ve heard a lot of buzz about teams targeting Margus Hunt at the top of the 2nd rd.” – Daniel Jeremiah NFL Network. Hunt is a possibility for the 49ers at No. 34 as seen in my 2013 NFL Mock Draft.
March 30: There’s been some speculation that the 49ers may use some of their extra picks to move up for Tavon Austin, but the Sacramento Bee’s Matt Barrows doesn’t believe San Francisco will make that move.
March 3: “We understand both the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints will look hard at defensive backs in the early rounds of the draft.” – Tony Pauline
-
Baltimore Ravens:
April 24: The Baltimore Sun says the Ravens would be interested in trading up for Lane Johnson.
April 19: The NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah, who used to work with Ozzie Newsome in Baltimore, mocked Matt Elam to the Ravens on Friday’s show. Jeremiah stated that Newsome wants “sure things” and “8-to-10-year starters” at big schools in the first round. Jeremiah noted Keenan Allen as a possibility a month ago.
April 18: “Manti Te’o would be in play for the Ravens at No. 32 overall, sources said, but I don’t see a scenario developing where they take him — if they can get value moving up for a left tackle that’s in play, receivers could make sense here and they like LSU inside linebacker Kevin Minter very much, too, though he has a second-round grade.” – Jason La Canfora
March 27: Five teams have told Yahoo’s Jason Cole that they don’t consider Manti Te’o a first-round prospect. Make it six if he didn’t talk to the team that told us it won’t be drafting Te’o in the 20-32 range. Te’o did not accept the draft invitation, which is an indication that he probably won’t be a first-round pick.
March 25: “League sources have told WalterFootball.com that they think the Ravens could be targeting John Jenkins in the first round.” – Charlie Campbell Jan. 27: “We talked about it — the middle of the defense,” Newsome said. “We think we have to get better at defensive tackle.” – Baltimore Sun
