*** 2015 NFL Mock Draft (2 rounds) updated Sept. 10. This NFL Mock Draft will be updated at least once per week (Tuesday afternoons and other times for important events.). Check out old versions of this 2015 NFL Mock Draft in the archived mock draft section. Follow @walterfootball for NFL Draft updates. ***

  1. Oakland Raiders: Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon
The obvious question regarding this pick: What about Derek Carr? Well, Carr was atrocious in the season opener, failing to go downfield at all until garbage time. If Carr continues to play this way, Oakland will have the worst record in the NFL, and it’ll be in position to draft either Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston. We’ve seen franchises give up on second-round signal-callers after one year, so that’s what would happen in this scenario. If, however, Carr improves, it’ll be a moot point because Oakland won’t be selecting first overall.

It’s a close call between Mariota and Winston in terms of talent, but the former has a slight edge right now. With most things being equal, Mariota is clean off the field. Winston, meanwhile, has several off-the-field issues that could scare some teams away.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

Pick change; previously Andrus Peat, OT

  2. New York Giants: Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State
As CoryCurren from the forums put it, “Winless for Winston.” The Giants, like the Raiders, are an abomination right now. It all starts with Eli Manning. I don’t know what happened to him, but he has somehow aged a decade in an entire offseason. Being unable to complete routine passes, Manning resembles a rotting carcass right now. He’s done, and the Giants need to start over.

Jameis Winston has the talent to go No. 1 overall, but character issues could drop him. I believe talent will win out, however, and that Winston will be a top-five pick. We’ve even had one NFL GM tell us that Jameis Winston is the real deal.

  3. Washington Redskins: Leonard Williams, DE/DT, USC
The Redskins signed Jason Hatcher this offseason, but he’ll be 33 right after the 2015 NFL Draft, so a long-term solution will be needed, especially with Jarvis Jenkins hitting free agency in the spring. Besides, Leonard Williams is the best defensive player in this class, and Washington needs all the help it can get on that side of the ball.

Pick change; previously Landon Collins, S

  4. Dallas Cowboys: Randy Gregory, DE/OLB, Nebraska
Jeremy Mincey is expected to play a big role in Dallas’ defense this year. Think about that for a second. The Cowboys lost DeMarcus Ware and Jason Hatcher this offseason, and Anthony Spencer is due to hit free agency in March. Another pass-rusher (or three) is needed.

Pick change; previously Leonard Williams, DE/DT

  5. Cleveland Browns: Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford
The Browns were considering finding an upgrade over right tackle Mitchell Schwartz this offseason, and they would’ve considered Greg Robinson if he fell to them. Schwartz didn’t play well in the preseason and surrendered a sack in the regular-season opener, so here’s a possible solution. Andrus Peat is way too talented to pass up anyway.

Pick change; previously Marcus Mariota, QB

  6. Cleveland Browns: Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama
It would be nice if the Browns actually spent a draft pick on a receiver this time. I’m sure Brian Hoyer/Johnny Manziel would love having Amari Cooper to throw to. An offense comprised of Cooper, Josh Gordon, Andrew Hawkins, Jordan Cameron and Ben Tate/Terrance West coming out of the backfield actually sounds pretty lethal.

  7. New York Jets: Landon Collins, S, Alabama
Rex Ryan’s defense isn’t nearly as lethal if he doesn’t have the talent in the secondary to work with. So, make it three consecutive drafts spend on a defensive back. Calvin Pryor looks promising thus far, but he needs someone better to play next to.

Pick change; previously Randy Gregory, DE/OLB

  8. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Connor Cook, QB, Michigan State
If throwing the ball while falling down was a positive attribute, Josh McCown would be the best quarterback in the NFL. Unfortunately, it’s not, and McCown played like garbage in the season opener. If this continues, the Buccaneers might consider reaching a bit for a first-round signal-caller; they were going to strongly consider Blake Bortles if he fell to them at No. 7.

Pick change; previously Ronald Darby, CB

  9. Kansas City Chiefs: Cedric Ogbuhei, OT, Texas A&M
The Chiefs have some major offensive line woes right now. The entire unit struggled in the opener. Andy Reid will spend multiple selections on upgrades next spring, if his past tendencies are any indication. Improvement at right tackle is needed.

Pick change; previously Shawn Oakman, DE/DT

  10. Jacksonville Jaguars: Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia
Toby Gerhart is listed as one of my top Fantasy Football Busts this year. I just don’t have much faith that the former Viking plodder will do much this year. If I’m right, Jacksonville could be in the market for a new running back to help Blake Bortles.

For those who don’t believe three or four running backs will be chosen in the first round next spring, this class has stud players at the position, so it’s going to happen. Besides, Trent Richardson was chosen No. 3 overall a couple of years ago.

  11. Chicago Bears: P.J. Williams, CB, Florida State
The Bears need help all over their defense, including the cornerback position. Charles Tillman has been re-signed, but only to a 1-year deal.

Pick change; previously Trae Waynes, CB

  12. Houston Texans: Shawn Oakman, DE/DT, Baylor
The Texans had a lot of needs, so they waited until the sixth round to try to replace the departed Antonio Smith. Here’s a better solution. Shawn Oakman, who has loads of potential, was dominant in his first game this season.

Pick change; previously P.J. Williams, CB

  13. Baltimore Ravens: T.J. Yeldon, RB, Alabama
I had the Ravens making this selection even before Ray Rice’s contract was terminated. Rice was in quick decline, while Bernard Pierce hasn’t shown the ability to stay healthy.

Ozzie Newsome loves his Alabama players. He may take another one here to upgrade the running back position.

  14. Tennessee Titans: Shilique Calhoun, DE/OLB, Michigan State
I didn’t like the fact that Tennessee transitioned to the 3-4, but the defense was dominant in the opener. Then again, Alex Smith never offers much of a challenge. We’ll see what happens, but personnel is still needed for this scheme, and that includes a top-notch edge rusher.

  15. St. Louis Rams: Ronald Darby, CB, Florida State
I’d like to have the Rams pick a quarterback, but I’m not sure Jeff Fisher would reach for one at this juncture.

St. Louis doesn’t have much at the cornerback position, so it might take one of the better players left on the board.

Pick change; previously Connor Cook, QB

  16. Carolina Panthers: La’El Collins, OT/G, LSU
The Panthers didn’t want to reach for a left tackle at No. 28. The problem is that they didn’t address the position at all. They won’t be reaching for La’El Collins at this juncture.

Pick change; previously Cedric Ogbuhei, OT
