2020 NFL Draft Re-Mock: Round 1 Continued

This is a 2020 NFL Draft Re-Mock. I’m going back to 2020 and re-distributing all of the 2020 NFL Draft prospects to all of the teams in the 2020 NFL Draft order. This 2020 NFL Draft Re-Mock is based on how these players have performed in their careers, as well as the needs each team had back in 2020.

  1. Dallas Cowboys: Trevon Diggs, CB, Alabama
    Actual 2020 NFL Draft Pick: CeeDee Lamb, WR
    My 2020 NFL Mock Draft Pick: K’Lavon Chaisson, LB

    I considered Trevon Diggs as an alternate option for the Cowboys five years ago. They still landed him despite snatching CeeDee Lamb with this pick. Lamb is gone, but Dallas can still get Diggs.



  2. Miami Dolphins: Xavier McKinney, S, Alabama
    Actual 2020 NFL Draft Pick: Austin Jackson, OT
    My 2020 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Mekhi Becton, OT

    A tackle would be ideal to protect Tua Tag-, I mean Justin Herbert. However, all the top tackles are gone, and Xavier McKinney is the best player on the board. He would have been a colossal upgrade for the terrible safeties Miami had on its roster at this time.



  3. Las Vegas Raiders: Jaylon Johnson, CB, Utah
    Actual 2020 NFL Draft Pick: Damon Arnette, CB
    My 2020 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Patrick Queen, LB

    Amazingly, Damon Arnette was a worse pick than Henry Ruggs, and Ruggs went to prison! I don’t know what Mike Mayock was thinking with this selection, but Jaylon Johnson would have been a much better cornerback selection.



  4. Jacksonville Jaguars: Alex Highsmith, DE, Charlotte
    Actual 2020 NFL Draft Pick: K’Lavon Chaisson, DE
    My 2020 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Xavier McKinney, S

    Jacksonville seemed to get a great value with K’Lavon Chaisson at the time, but he turned into a huge bust. Here’s a better edge rusher. Some would argue that Alex Highsmith benefits from T.J. Watt, but Highsmith would certainly out-produce what Chaisson provided for Jacksonville.



  5. Philadelphia Eagles: Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama
    Actual 2020 NFL Draft Pick: Jalen Reagor, WR
    My 2020 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Justin Jefferson, WR

    It’s truly amazing that Philadelphia’s elite front office botched this pick so badly by taking Jalen Reagor over Justin Jefferson. This wasn’t even hindsight, as Reagor was considered a much worse prospect at the time. I didn’t even have him in my first round.

    At any rate, the Eagles shocked the world by selecting Jalen Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft despite just signing Carson Wentz to a huge deal. Taking Hurts seemed to be a big blunder at the time, but the real mistake was paying Wentz so much. Here, the Eagles get the “other” Alabama quarterback from the national champion roster.



  6. Minnesota Vikings: L’Jarius Sneed, S/CB, Louisiana Tech
    Actual 2020 NFL Draft Pick: Justin Jefferson, WR
    My 2020 NFL Mock Draft Pick: A.J. Terrell, CB

    The Vikings miss out on Justin Jefferson in this re-draft by a mile. I mocked A.J. Terrell to them, thinking that Jefferson would be gone by No. 22. With Jefferson gone in this re-draft, Minnesota can take the top cornerback available.



  7. New England Patriots: Logan Wilson, LB, Wyoming
    Actual 2020 NFL Draft Pick: Kyle Dugger, S
    My 2020 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Adam Trautman, TE

    I can’t believe I had Adam Trautman in the first round of my mock draft, though I noted that I expected New England to trade down – which is exactly what Bill Belichick did. Belichick is always down to draft linebackers, and the Patriots had an issue at the position at this time.



  8. Cleveland Browns: Brandon Aiyuk, WR, Arizona State
    Actual 2020 NFL Draft Pick: Grant Delpit, S
    My 2020 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Ezra Cleveland, OT

    I listed Brandon Aiyuk as a possibility for the Browns in my mock draft five years ago. Aiyuk is available, so he would be the pick in this re-draft. It’d be interesting to see if Ayiuk would have panned out in Cleveland, given that he spent some time in Kyle Shanahan’s dog house.



  9. Minnesota Vikings: Tyler Biadasz, C, Wisconsin
    Actual 2020 NFL Draft Pick: Jeff Gladney, CB
    My 2020 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Matt Hennessy, C/G

    I projected a center to the Vikings with their second pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. They moved down and took the now-late Jeff Gladney instead. Here, they get to re-write history and obtain a stud center.



  10. Miami Dolphins: Robert Hunt, OT/G, Louisiana-Lafayette
    Actual 2020 NFL Draft Pick: Noah Igbinoghene, CB
    My 2020 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Josh Jones, OT

    The Dolphins would eventually select Robert Hunt in the second round. Hunt was a terrific interior blocker for them, and he was sorely missed in 2024 when he departed for Carolina. If we’re re-writing history, perhaps Miami would keep him to help Tua Tagovailoa and the running game.



  11. Seattle Seahawks: Damien Lewis, G, LSU
    Actual 2020 NFL Draft Pick: Jordyn Brooks, LB
    My 2020 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Isaiah Wilson, OT

    Seattle’s top player from this class turned out to be Damien Lewis, who was chosen in the third round. Like the Dolphins with Robert Hunt, the Seahawks will need to do a better job of retaining their talented guard.



  12. Baltimore Ravens: Zack Baun, LB, Wisconsin
    Actual 2020 NFL Draft Pick: Patrick Queen, LB
    My 2020 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Yetur Gross-Matos, DE

    I actually listed Zack Baun as another possibility for the Ravens. Patrick Queen is gone, but Baun would have been a viable alternative, given how great he was for the Eagles in 2024.



  13. Tennessee Titans: Ezra Cleveland, OT, Boise State
    Actual 2020 NFL Draft Pick: Isaiah Wilson, OT
    My 2020 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Austin Jackson, OT

    The Titans whiffed big time with Isaiah Wilson. They can still satisfy their big need at offensive tackle with another player. Ezra Cleveland plays guard now, but he was considered a viable tackle prospect.



  14. Green Bay Packers: Michael Pittman Jr., WR, USC
    Actual 2020 NFL Draft Pick: Jordan Love, QB
    My 2020 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Denzel Mims, WR

    The Packers were heavily criticized for drafting Jordan Love. This wasn’t because Love was a terrible prospect, but rather, they passed on an opportunity to really help themselves win another championship with Aaron Rodgers. Had a strong No. 2 receiver like Michael Pittman Jr. been on the roster, Green Bay may have beaten the Buccaneers in the NFC Championship.



  15. San Francisco 49ers: Cesar Ruiz, C, Michigan
    Actual 2020 NFL Draft Pick: Brandon Aiyuk, WR
    My 2020 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Cesar Ruiz, C

    Here’s why I mocked Cesar Ruiz to the 49ers: “Weston Richburg tore his patellar tendon, and there’s usually no coming back from that. The 49ers need to make sure they have a viable starting center. San Francisco would love to trade down, but if it can’t move out of this pick, Cesar Ruiz is a top possibility.”



  16. Kansas City Chiefs: D.J. Wonnum, DE/OLB, South Carolina
    Actual 2020 NFL Draft Pick: Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB
    My 2020 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Jeff Gladney, CB

    No running back for the Chiefs in this re-draft. Instead, they can focus on addressing their edge rush, which lacked talent outside of Frank Clark.
