Back to Overreaction 2024 NFL Mock Draft: Picks 1-16

  1. team img Jacksonville Jaguars: Xavier Legette, WR, South Carolina
The Jaguars could consider adding a big outside receiver to go with Christian Kirk and Calvin Ridley.

According to multiple team sources, they were impressed with Legette in 2023 and he has risen into first-round contention. On the year, he totaled 71 receptions for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns. The 6-foot-3, 227-pounder has mismatch size and has shown that he has good speed for a big wideout. If he works out and interviews well, Legette could continue to rise as the 2024 NFL Draft nears.
  2. team img Cincinnati Bengals: Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia
Cincinnati has some important veterans to re-sign in the form of Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, D.J. Reader, Jonah Williams and Chidobe Awuzie. Considering the amount of money the Bengals paid Orlando Brown, they probably won’t spend another big contract at the tackle position. Williams could leave, but Cincinnati could use the 2024 NFL Draft to find his replacement.

Mims is a giant monster who manned right tackle for Georgia. He has very little body fat and is a unique physical specimen with size, speed and athleticism. Team sources say Mims has 11.2-inch hands and 36-inch arms, as well as quickness. They noted his physical body is similar to that of Tyron Smith.

Previously, the 6-foot-7, 330-pound Mims was a backup and rotational player for Georgia. He dominated Ohio State to close out the 2022 season and looked like he was toying with the highly touted Buckeyes defensive ends.

NFL team evaluators said Mims was more physical and nasty in 2023, and he was playing dominant football before being sidelined for a while by a lower leg injury. Team sources said that while Mims could be in the running for the best skill set of any player in the 2024 NFL Draft, he could slide to late in the first round because of his lack of playing experience, which was hindered by missing games to injury in 2023.
  3. team img Green Bay Packers: Cooper DeJean, S/CB, Iowa
The Packers grab a young talent who could help them at safety and cornerback. DeJean would be a plug-and-play upgrade for Green Bay.

DeJean recorded 41 tackles, two interceptions and five passes batted in 2023 before his season ended early. He was all over the field for Iowa in 2022, making big plays while totaling 75 tackles, five interceptions and eight passes defended.

The 6-foot-1, 209-pound DeJean is a gritty and instinctive defender. While he played outside cornerback for Iowa, some team sources feel DeJean would be best as a hybrid safety and nickel corner in the NFL, similar to a C.J. Gardner-Johnson or Brian Branch. That would allow DeJean the freedom to use his instincts to make plays. He is expected to be a workout warrior before the 2024 NFL Draft as well.
  4. team img Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Troy Fautanu, OT/G, Washington
Tampa Bay badly needs interior offensive line help. Fautanu could start at guard as well as give the Buccaneers a tackle option in case of injury.

Fautanu (6-3, 317) has been a very reliable and steady left tackle for Michael Penix Jr. this season. Fautanu became the starting left tackle in 2022 and has been a consistent contributor for Washington. Multiple team sources said they like Fautanu and see him as an early-rounder. Some projected him as a second-round pick with a potential move to guard because of length limitations. Others said they thought Fautanu could be a first-round offensive tackle because he has 35-inch arms, similar to Rashawn Slater. Pro evaluators like Fautanu’s athleticism, but he is not real powerful and his anchor is just okay.
  5. team img Arizona Cardinals: Keon Coleman, WR, Florida State
The Cardinals could use a big receiver for Kyler Murray.

In 2023, Coleman totaled 50 catches of 658 yards and 11 touchdowns. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder has good size with quickness, athleticism, and excellent ball skills. In 2022 for Michigan State, he recorded 58 receptions for 798 yards and seven touchdowns while playing. Coleman opened the 2023 season, and his career as a Seminole, with a monster game of nine catches for 122 yards and three touchdowns versus LSU. Coleman also got the better of a future NFL corner in Wake Forest’s Caelen Carson in their matchup. Coleman could be a No. 1 receiver in the NFL.
  6. team img Pittsburgh Steelers: Jordan Morgan, OT, Arizona
The Steelers need more offensive line talent to help establish more consistency on offense.

The 6-foot-5, 325-pound Morgan turned in an impressive senior year to help himself with NFL scouts. Morgan has excellent size, including length, height and weight, as well as strength and quickness. Morgan was a mainstay for the Wildcats as a starter over the past three seasons. In 2022, he allowed one sack in 670 total snaps. Morgan earned an invitation to the Senior Bowl, and he could rise into being a first-round pick if he performs well over the pre-draft process.
  7. team img Los Angeles Rams: Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama
Derion Kendrick is a nice player, but the Rams need more cornerback talent to go with him.

Arnold recorded 63 tackles, five interceptions and 12 passes broken up in 2023. He played well for Alabama in 2022, recording 45 tackles, an interception and eight passes broken up. The 6-foot, 188-pounder has quality size to go along with instincts and good technique. Arnold’s only real flaw is not being fast, and that presents some limitations for the NFL. Still, Arnold looks like a good fit for a zone team and a safe pick to be a solid pro.
  8. team img Miami Dolphins: Kris Jenkins, DT, Michigan
Even if Christian Wilkins signs an extension, the Dolphins could use more talent in the middle of their defense next to him.

While Jenkins does not have big pass-rushing numbers, he is consistent about producing pressure from the inside. Jenkins may not be an elite rusher as a pro, but he is a superb run defender who contributes some pass rush. He is athletic with quickness, strength, and has very good instincts. Jenkins has 35 tackles, 2.5 sacks and an interception in 2023. After spending a couple of seasons as a backup, Jenkins (6-3, 305) earned a starting spot in 2022 and had a strong debut with 54 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, two sacks and two hurries.

Kris Jenkins is the son of former Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Kris Jenkins and the nephew of former Packer Cullen Jenkins, so he has good NFL bloodlines. His father and uncle have tutored him well, as Kris Jenkins is a real tactician with advanced development.
  9. team img Kansas City Chiefs: Johnny Newton, DT, Illinois
Even if Chris Jones is re-signed, the Chiefs could use more defensive tackle youth.

Sources with NFL teams said they feel Newton has boom-or-bust potential. On the positive side, he is a dangerous interior rusher who has natural pass-rush ability that is hard to find from a defensive tackle. On the negative side, Newton can get destroyed as a run defender and has size limitations. He also seems to turn his play on and off. Newton will be a heavily debated prospect up to the 2024 NFL Draft.

The fast and athletic Newton produced well in the pass rush over the past few seasons. He totaled 52 tackles, 7.5 sacks, one forced fumble and two passes broken up in 2023. In 2022, Newton recorded 5.5 sacks, 59 tackles and three passes batted. He picked up 3.5 sacks in 2021. At 6-foot-2, 295 pounds, Newton is shorter and lacks length, so he will have to develop the ability to hold up against NFL mass to be a three-down starter. If he can’t develop his run defense, Newton might be a rotational player as an interior designated pass rusher.
  10. team img Philadelphia Eagles: Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB, Alabama
The Eagles could use some young talent at corner.

In 2023, McKinstry recorded 32 tackles, zero interceptions and seven passes broken up. Most freshmen don’t play immediately for Nick Saban, but McKinstry was an anomaly, notching 26 tackles, an interception, a pass broken up and a sack in 2021. In 2022, McKinstry recorded 35 tackles, a sack, an interception and 15 passes broken up. The 6-foot-1, 188-pounder possesses, size, length, straight-line speed, and physicality. However, he is a press-man corner only and does not look like a good fit for a zone or off-man scheme.
  11. team img Detroit Lions: Michael Hall Jr., DT, Ohio State
Brad Holmes made a fabulous pick Alim McNeil in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, but Detroit needs more defensive tackle help next to him. Here’s a three-technique to cause disruption on the inside next to McNeil.

In 2023, Hall recorded 24 tackles and 1.5 sacks while playing out of position at nose tackle. He got off to an impressive start for the 2022 season, showing speed and playmaking ability at the point of attack. Hall recorded 19 tackles and 4.5 sacks that season, but looked like he was just scratching the surface of his potential. While Hall (6-2, 290) is a little light, he is fast off the ball with the ability to fire his gap and is a natural three-technique.
  12. team img Houston Texans: Jared Verse, DE, Florida State
The Texans grab an edge rusher to pair with Will Anderson.

Verse recorded 41 tackles, nine sacks and two passes batted in 2023. He had a great start to open 2022, showing pass-rush ability and speed around the corner in a dominant performance versus LSU while recording three sacks and seven tackles. In 2022, Verse recorded 47 tackles and nine sacks. He displayed functional strength, athleticism, and a steady drive. In 2021 playing for Albany, Verse recorded 10 tackles for a loss, four sacks and 22 tackles. The 6-foot-4, 250-pounder has a good motor and upside.
  13. team img Buffalo Bills: Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas
The Bills could use more receiving weapons for Josh Allen.

Worthy totaled 75 receptions in 2023 for 1,014 yards and five touchdowns. The 6-foot-1, 163-pounder is a quick, shifty, undersized playmaker who can get open vertically and is a threat to score on any reception. Worthy had an impressive debut in 2021 with 62 catches for 981 yards and 12 touchdowns. In 2022, he turned 60 receptions into 760 yards and nine scores.
  14. team img Dallas Cowboys: Kingsley Suamataia, OT, BYU
The Cowboys add an understudy for Tyron Smith.

Suamataia was a top recruit who landed at Oregon and redshirted. In 2022, Suamataia transferred to BYU and broke out, including not allowing a sack all season. The 6-foot-6, 325-pounder has shocking speed and athleticism for an edge blocker of his size. He is superb in pass protection while also showing toughness as a run blocker. Suamataia could stand to add some lower body strength, but he has a lot of upside and could be a very good starter at left or right tackle in the NFL.
  15. team img San Francisco 49ers: Tyler Guyton, OT, Oklahoma
The 49ers could use an understudy for Trent Williams.

The 6-foot-7, 328-pound Guyton is said to be an athletic freak with a special combination of size, speed and length. He started five games in 2022 for the Sooners after starting out his career at TCU. In 2021, he played offensive tackle and h-back with the Horned Frogs. Team sources say Guyton has all the ability but needs to get more consistent. Guyton has a lot of upside to grow as he gains experience. Multiple team sources said Guyton has first-round potential and think he could be a riser for the 2024 NFL Draft.
  16. team img Baltimore Ravens: Kamari Lassiter, CB, Georgia
The Ravens could use more youth at cornerback.

Lassiter (6-0, 180) has a good skill set and established himself as the top cover corner for the Bulldogs in 2023. Lassiter is very instinctive and impressed with his ability to sustain coverage. In 2023, he recorded 37 tackles and eight passes broken up while providing steady blanket coverage on the opposing team’s top receiver. He totaled 38 tackles and four passes batted in 2022.
  17. team img Carolina Panthers: Adonai Mitchell, WR, Texas
The Panthers badly need wide receiver talent to help Bryce Young. Here’s a weapon to get open.

Mitchell notched 55 catches in 2023 for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns. For the NFL, Mitchell has a big-time skill set and a ton of upside to develop. The 6-foot-4, 196-pounder has mismatch size and length, including a large catch radius. Mitchell possesses some straight-line speed, but lacks quick explosion and change-of-direction juice. He also needs to get stronger for the NFL. One can see why Mitchell was a top recruit at Georgia, and he was wise to transfer to Texas, which finally put him in an offense that features a passing attack and gets the receivers more involved. Mitchell looks like a potential first-round pick for the 2024 NFL Draft.
  1. team img Cleveland Browns: Emeka Egbuka, WR, Ohio State
The Browns could use more wide receiver talent to go with Amari Cooper.

In 2023, Egbuka notched 41 catches for 515 yards and four touchdowns. The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder turned in 74 receptions for 1,151 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2022. He emerged as a potential No. 1 receiver or really good No. 2 wideout. At other schools, Egbuka would have had an even bigger year, but he was the No. 2 receiver for Ohio State across from Marvin Harrison Jr. While injuries were definitely a factor in the 2023 numbers, Egbuka still needs good workouts before the 2024 NFL Draft because he looked much faster in 2022 compared to his 2023 performance. Egbuka could be a steal of a second-day pick if rebounds to his 2022 form.
