*** 2015 NFL Mock Draft (3 rounds) updated Oct. 8. This NFL Mock Draft will be updated at least once per week (Tuesday afternoons and other times for important events.). Check out old versions of this 2015 NFL Mock Draft in the archived mock draft section. Follow @walterfootball for NFL Draft updates. ***

  1. Oakland Raiders: Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon
The Panthers used a second-round pick on a quarterback in 2010. They bottomed out that season and came away with the No. 1 pick. Many, including Mel Kiper and Todd McShay, projected them to draft players like Nick Fairley or Da’Quan Bowers, but ultimately, Cam Newton was the pick. The Panthers fell in love with Newton’s tape and intangibles. That’s what will happen with the Raiders.

Derek Carr hasn’t been awful thus far, but he hasn’t shown promise that he can be a franchise quarterback. Many will project the Raiders to select Leonard Williams or Randy Gregory, but they’ll ultimately fall in love with everything Marcus Mariota will have to offer. If the Raiders are drafting first, they’ll take Mariota. No question about it. And it’s the right move because Oakland will suddenly become relevant upon making this selection.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

  2. Jacksonville Jaguars: Leonard Williams, DE/DT, USC
If the Jaguars secure the top pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, they will trade it to the highest bidder. There are plenty of teams – Buccaneers, Rams, Texans, Raiders (if Derek Carr struggles) – that will be desperate to land Marcus Mariota. Jacksonville will deal the selection to the highest bidder.

It’s all moot because Jacksonville is picking second in this scenario, so I’m going to slot the top non-quarterback talent to them anyway. The Jaguars’ defensive line was projected to be a strength this year, but the group hasn’t come close to meeting expectations. It’s not the biggest weakness, but a better pass rush will mask issues in the back seven.

  3. Tennessee Titans: Randy Gregory, DE/OLB, Nebraska
Apparently, Tennessee’s defensive performance in the season opener was a mirage. The Titans need to find a pass-rushing upgrade because Kamerion Wimbley is not getting the job done. They’d love to land Randy Gregory, who is the top edge rusher in this class. It’s possible that he’ll go as high as No. 2 to the Jaguars.

  4. New York Jets: Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama
The Jets would be thrilled if Amari Cooper fell to them. They have zero receiving talent outside of Eric Decker, who can’t seem to stay healthy. Decker is just a No. 2 option anyway, so Cooper, who is being touted as the next A.J. Green/Julio Jones type, would step in and instantly become the top receiver.

Pick change; previously Todd Gurley, RB

  5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State
If throwing the ball while falling down was a positive attribute, Josh McCown would be the best quarterback in the NFL. Unfortunately, it’s not, and McCown has played like garbage in two of his three games this year. Mike Glennon was decent against the Steelers and Saints, but I don’t expect him to finish the year out well.

This was a tough one. If Glennon struggles in most of his upcoming games – we’ll see how he fares versus tougher defenses – the Buccaneers will consider Jameis Winston. It won’t be a slam dunk like the Raiders taking Marcus Mariota because Winston has Johnny Manziel-type character issues, but his talent could be too much for Tampa to resist. I’d worry about Winston in Ybor, but there’s no question that he would be a massive upgrade at quarterback, and he would provide the team with a potential franchise player at the position for the first time since… Trent Dilfer?

  6. Washington Redskins: Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford
Jason Whitlock said the Redskins were trying to focus on obtaining Jameis Winston with this pick when he ruined a recent episode of PTI. It’s more likely that they’ll either upgrade their secondary or find some protection for Robert Griffin or Kirk Cousins. They couldn’t keep the Giants out of the backfield during that Thursday night loss.

  7. Cleveland Browns: Cedric Ogbuhei, OT, Texas A&M
The Browns were considering finding an upgrade over right tackle Mitchell Schwartz this offseason, and they would’ve considered Greg Robinson if he fell to them. Schwartz didn’t play well in the preseason and has just been average in the early going, so here’s a possible solution.

Pick change; previously Amari Cooper, WR

  8. St. Louis Rams: Connor Cook, QB, Michigan State
Austin Davis had a nice first start against the Buccaneers and then followed that up with a decent performance before melting down against Dallas. He was also solid against the Eagles. Perhaps the Rams will roll with him in 2015 if he keeps it up. If not, they’ll strongly consider a quarterback with one of their first two picks.

I’m going back and forth between my No. 3 quarterback, but I was very disappointed by Brett Hundley’s performance against Utah, as he showed zero ability to deal with a pass rush. Connor Cook should be the third signal-caller off the board.

Pick change; previously Brett Hundley, QB

  9. Houston Texans: Shawn Oakman, DE/DT, Baylor
The Texans have struggled against the run this year because they miss Antonio Smith, whom they failed to replace this past offseason. Here’s an upgrade who will make their defensive front even more formidable.

Pick change; previously Landon Collins, S

  10. Carolina Panthers: Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia
After Carolina’s former general manager spent so much money on DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, a first-round running back might be the last think Panther fans may want to see. Then again, Todd Gurley is the next great running back, and he’d help Cam Newton immensely.

For those who don’t believe three or four running backs will be chosen in the first round next spring, this class has stud players at the position, so it’s going to happen. Besides, Trent Richardson was chosen No. 3 overall a couple of years ago. If Richardson can go third, the more-talented Gurley can be chosen at No. 10.

  11. Chicago Bears: P.J. Williams, CB, Florida State
Kyle Fuller has looked great so far – he just completely shut down Kelvin Benjamin – but the Bears will need another corner with Charles Tillman likely done. Chicago is taking the best talent available anyway.

Pick change; previously Ronald Darby, CB

  12. Cleveland Browns: Vic Beasley, DE/OLB, Clemson
Barkevious Mingo does some things well, but he has failed to develop into a great pass-rusher. Jabaal Sheard, meanwhile, will be hitting free agency in March. With all that in mind, if Mingo continues to disappoint in terms of getting to the quarterback, the Browns will want to bring in someone who can accomplish that.

Pick change; previously Brandon Scherff, OT

  13. Miami Dolphins: Landon Collins, S, Alabama
Both Louis Delmas and Jimmy Wilson will be impending free agents this upcoming offseason, and all the Dolphins have waiting in the wings is 2014 fourth-rounder Walt Aikens. Miami will have to get younger and better at the safety position.

Pick change; previously P.J. Williams, CB

  14. Minnesota Vikings: Dante Fowler, DE, Florida
The top players on the board don’t match Minnesota’s needs, so I’m giving them the best prospect available who makes sense for them. Brian Robison will turn 32 right after the 2015 NFL Draft, so a successor will be needed.

  15. Pittsburgh Steelers: Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, CB, Oregon
Ike Taylor suffered a terrible injury several Sunday nights ago. He’ll be back later in the year, but the Steelers need to get younger and better at cornerback regardless.

  16. Atlanta Falcons: Markus Golden, DE/OLB, Missouri
The Falcons can’t be too upset with obtaining Jake Matthews at No. 6 overall this past May, but they were one pick away from landing Khalil Mack. Here’s their new edge rusher.

Pick change; previously Vic Beasley, DE/OLB
