*** 2015 NFL Mock Draft (3 rounds) updated Oct. 21. This NFL Mock Draft will be updated at least once per week (Tuesday afternoons and other times for important events.). Check out old versions of this 2015 NFL Mock Draft in the archived mock draft section. Follow @walterfootball for NFL Draft updates. ***

  1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon
TRADE! OK, a little too early to project trades, especially given that the draft order isn’t even close to being set yet, but if the Raiders are picking No. 1, as they were in this update, one of two things will happen: They’ll either fall in love with Marcus Mariota and pick him, much like the Panthers did with Cam Newton after spending a second-rounder on Jimmy Clausen; or they’ll auction off the top selection to the highest bidder. I’m projecting a trade here for the Raiders based on how Derek Carr performed against the Chargers (and not so much versus Arizona). He showed promise, and what the Raiders plan on doing with him depends on how he finishes the season.

There will be plenty of interest from teams looking to land Mariota, and the Buccaneers might be most desperate after what transpired against the Ravens. Tampa has to find a franchise quarterback to be competitive in the NFC South.

To move up to No. 1, the Buccaneers dealt the third-overall pick, their second-round selection and their 2016 first-rounder.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

  2. Jacksonville Jaguars: Leonard Williams, DE/DT, USC
If the Jaguars secure the top pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, they will trade it to the highest bidder. There are plenty of teams – Buccaneers, Jets, Rams, Texans, Titans, Raiders (if Derek Carr struggles), Browns (if they want to give up on Johnny Manziel and his antics) – that will be desperate to land Marcus Mariota. Jacksonville will deal the selection to the highest bidder.

It’s all moot because Jacksonville is picking second in this scenario, so I’m going to slot the top non-quarterback talent to them anyway. The Jaguars’ defensive line was projected to be a strength this year, but Sen’Derrick Marks has been the only consistent pass-rusher. The group isn’t nearly the team’s biggest weakness, but a better pass rush will mask issues in the back seven.

  3. Oakland Raiders: Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford
The Raiders will strongly consider Marcus Mariota if they can get him (if Derek Carr finishes the year poorly), but they could deal the pick if Carr shows promise, which he did against San Diego.

Oakland will instead focus on finding someone to protect Carr. Donald Penn is not a long-term option at left tackle, while neither Khalif Barnes nor Menelik Watson should not be starting going forward.

Pick change; previously Cedric Ogbuhei, OT

  4. Tennessee Titans: Randy Gregory, DE/OLB, Nebraska
Apparently, Tennessee’s defensive performance in the season opener was a mirage. The Titans need to find a pass-rushing upgrade because Kamerion Wimbley is not getting the job done. They’d love to land Randy Gregory, who is the top edge rusher in this class. It’s possible that he’ll go as high as No. 2 to the Jaguars.

  5. Washington Redskins: Shane Ray, DE/OLB, Missouri
I’m giving the Redskins the best-available player who makes sense for them. Shane Ray has been a monster this year and could definitely be chosen in the top five.

A pass-rusher doesn’t seem like an obvious need, but Brian Orakpo is an impending free agent coming off a third chest tear, while Ryan Kerrigan will be entering the final year of his contract in 2015.

Pick change; previously Andrus Peat, OT

  6. New York Jets: Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama
Yes, even in the wake of the Percy Harvin trade. If all of the reports of Harvin being such a problematic character in the locker room are true, he’s not going to be on the Jets very long – especially at his salary. We’ll see what happens, but Amari Cooper is very much in play for the Jets at this moment.

  7. Minnesota Vikings: Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia
It goes without saying that this selection is contingent on what happens with Adrian Peterson. It’s completely possible that Peterson will return to Minnesota in 2015, but there’s also a good chance that the Vikings will want to take a PR stand by getting rid of him.

If the latter scenario occurs, the Vikings would be open to spending another top-10 pick on a blue-chip running back. Major help is needed in the backfield, as Jerick McKinnon is just a change-of-pace option.

For those who don’t believe three or four running backs will be chosen in the first round next spring, this class has stud players at the position, so it’s going to happen. Besides, Trent Richardson was chosen No. 3 overall a couple of years ago. If Richardson can go third, the more-talented Gurley can be chosen at No. 8.

  8. St. Louis Rams: Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State
There is so much controversy surrounding Jameis Winston, from the alleged sexual assault, to the crab legs, to the autographs, to his suspension for shouting a stupid meme in the student union (funny that the old farts running Florida State didn’t know what it meant). However, Winston is too talented not to go in the first round. There are plenty of teams desperate for a quarterback, including the Rams.

Jeff Fisher’s tenure in St. Louis won’t be long unless he finds a solution at the signal-caller position. Fisher has overlooked character issues in the past, so I think he would take a chance on Winston.

  9. Atlanta Falcons: Dante Fowler, DE, Florida
The Falcons can’t be too upset with obtaining Jake Matthews at No. 6 overall this past May – though his recent struggles have been alarming – but they were one pick away from landing Khalil Mack. Here’s their new edge rusher.

  10. Houston Texans: Landon Collins, S, Alabama
I’d be tempted to slot Jameis Winston here if he were available, but I’m not sure the Texans would want to deal with his antics. Connor Cook will also be considered, but we’ve seen the Texans pass on a quarterback for a greatly superior prospect, and that’s what’s happening here. Landon Collins is a stud, and he would offer a major upgrade at a position of need.

  11. Cleveland Browns: Brandon Scherff, OT/G, Iowa
The Browns were considering finding an upgrade over right tackle Mitchell Schwartz this offseason, and they would’ve considered Greg Robinson if he fell to them. Schwartz didn’t play well in the preseason and has just been average in the early going, so here’s a possible solution.

  12. Pittsburgh Steelers: Kevin White, WR, West Virginia
Ben Roethlisberger is starved for play-makers outside of Antonio Brown. Markus Wheaton has been a huge disappointment, while Martavis Bryant seems like just a situational deep threat. The Steelers need a No. 2 wideout, and Kevin White, who has dominated this season, would be a big upgrade.

Pick change; previously P.J. Williams, CB

  13. Cleveland Browns: Leonard Floyd, DE/OLB, Georgia
Barkevious Mingo does some things well, but he has failed to develop into a great pass-rusher. Jabaal Sheard, meanwhile, will be hitting free agency in March. With all that in mind, if Mingo continues to disappoint in terms of getting to the quarterback, the Browns will want to bring in someone who can accomplish that.

Pick change; previously Shane Ray, DE/OLB

  14. Chicago Bears: P.J. Williams, CB, Florida State
Kyle Fuller has looked great so far – he recently completely shut down Kelvin Benjamin – but the Bears will need another corner with Charles Tillman likely done. Chicago is taking the best talent available anyway.

Pick change; previously Ronald Darby, CB

  15. Carolina Panthers: La’El Collins, OT/G, LSU
Most people focus on Carolina’s receiving corps, but the team’s offensive line can’t block whatsoever for Cam Newton. That absolutely must change for the Panthers to be a playoff contender again.

Pick change; previously Melvin Gordon, RB

  16. New York Giants: Shilique Calhoun, DE/OLB, Michigan State
Jerry Reese never has any qualms about adding talented pass-rushers. Both Mathias Kiwanuka and Robert Ayers will be entering their contract years in 2015, so Reese may want to add a starter at defensive end for 2016 and beyond.
