Las Vegas Raiders: Daviyon Nixon, DE, Iowa
This is a little bit of a reach, but Raiders general manager Mike Mayock has reached with all of his first-round picks – Josh Jacobs being the exception. Las Vegas badly needs an interior pass rusher, and Nixon has a lot of ability and upside as a rusher.
Nixon was very good for Iowa in 2020, recording 5.5 sacks, 45 tackles, a forced fumble and an interception. Nixon totaled 29 tackles and three sacks in his first season of playing time for Iowa as a rotational backup. The 6-foot-3, 305-pound junior is quick at the point of attack with an ability to fire his gape and close on the quarterback. Nixon improved his run defense in 2020 and is a well-rounded defender with a lot of upside. -
Miami Dolphins: Zaven Collins, OLB, Tulsa
The Dolphins could use more linebacker talent and edge rush across from Emmanuel Ogbah. Collins is a great scheme fit for Brian Flores and could help both areas.
Collins had a strong 2020 season, recording four sacks, four interceptions, two passes broken up, two forced fumbles and 54 tackles. He made a lot of highlight-reel plays, such as a 95-yard pick-six in overtime to top Tulane. In 2019, he totaled 97 tackles with two sacks. He had 85 stops and 1.5 sacks in 2018.
The 6-foot-4, 260-pound Collins has a good skill set for the next level and looked massively improved in terms of his pass-rush ability in 2020. He is big, quick, and a versatile athlete also showing the ability to drop into coverage. Team sources are raving about Collins and think he could be a Sam – strong side – linebacker or Mike – middle – linebacker in a 4-3 defense or play outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense.
Check out my video on racism in the NFL, which includes how the Dolphins earned praise from team staffers around the league. -
Washington Redskins: Terrace Marshall Jr., WR, LSU
Ron Rivera could use more receiving talent to go with Terry McLaurin.
Marshall had 48 receptions for 731 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2020 before opting out of LSU’s final two games – against Alabama and Florida. Team sources were impressed with Marshall, who showed off his size, speed, and big-play ability in 2020. He flashed in 2019, recording 46 receptions for 671 yards and three touchdowns. Marshall clearly was capable of producing more, but LSU featured Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson. Marshall (6-3, 200) looks like a first- or second-round talent for the 2021 NFL Draft given his size, speed, route-running and versatility. -
Chicago Bears: Rashawn Slater, G, Northwestern
The Bears could use more talent at wide receiver, and it will be a huge need if Allen Robinson is not re-signed.
Slater decided to sit out the 2020 season, which hasn’t hurt his draft momentum. Some are projecting him high in the first round, while some team sources say they have Slater (6-3, 305) graded in the second round because they think his size limitations makes him a guard or center in the NFL. Slater is a fantastic athlete who has insane speed for an offensive lineman. On the edge, Slater is fast and nimble but he can struggle with length and strength. Some teams might try to play him at tackle similar to a Kelvin Beachum or Isaiah Wynn, but Slater definitely could play guar or center if he doesn’t work out at tackle. -
Indianapolis Colts: Sam Cosmi, OT, Texas
The Colts need a left tackle to replace the retired Anthony Castonzo.
Team sources like Cosmi and think he is a better prospect than Connor Williams was at Texas. They feel Cosmi is raw and needs development, but athletically, he is an interesting prospect. Cosmi (6-6, 295) still needs get stronger for the NFL. Team sources felt he should go back to school if he wanted to be a secure first-round pick in his draft class, and Cosmi wisely decided to return to Austin for 2020. Sources who saw Cosmi toward the start of the 2020 season said it looks like he added some good weight since the end of 2019. As a redshirt freshman, Cosmi earned a starting spot at right tackle for the Longhorns and had an impressive debut. Throughout his time at Texas, Cosmi did a good job in pass protection, showing some length and athleticism on the edge. He could be a dependable left tackle in the NFL to protect the blind side. -
Tennessee Titans: Carlos Basham, 3-4DE, Wake Forest
Vic Beasley didn’t work out, and Jadeveon Clowney only signed a 1-year contract. Here’s a long-term edge rusher for Tennessee.
Basham totaled 28 tackles and five sacks in 2020. The 6-foot-5, 275-pounder showed a big improvement from his sophomore to junior season, going from 4.5 sacks in 2018 to 11 in 2019. His run defense remained steady with 64 tackles as a sophomore and 57 as a junior. In his breakout redshirt junior year, Basham also had three forced fumbles and three passes batted.
Basham has good size size for the NFL in terms of height and weight, plus he is faster and more athletic than one would expect. With Basham’s skill set, he has upside for the next level. He is a well-balanced defender who is tough at the point of attack. Basham is not a pure speed demon off the edge and overwhelming pass rusher, but is a consistent and well-rounded defender who should be a solid left defensive end in the NFL. -
Houston Texans: Tyson Campbell, CB, Georgia
Cornerback has been an issue the past few seasons for the Texans and they could use a difference maker at the position. With Trevor Lawrence coming into the division, the Texans definitely need to upgrade their cornerback talent.
Campbell recorded 29 tackles, an interception and four passes broken up in 2020. He did a superb job of blanketing Auburn wide receiver Seth Williams in Week 2, and Williams was incapable of generating separation from Campbell. Campbell played well in every game of 2020, other than against Florida as he had some struggles with star tight end Kyle Pitts, who got the better of him. In 2019, Campbell had 15 tackles with four passes broken up.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder has ability, which he flashed for Georgia during 2018. Over those two seasons, Campbell was a streaky player with some ups and downs, but showed that he has plenty of upside to develop and was more consistent in 2020. -
Pittsburgh Steelers: Travis Etienne, RB, Clemson
The Steelers need a difference-maker in the backfield. Etienne would add big-play potential to the Pittsburgh offense.
Etienne is not the biggest of backs, but he runs hard for his size and is fast with the ability to rip off long runs on any carry. He also could be an excellent receiving weapon in the NFL as Etienne is a threat to take short check downs for long gains. Etienne totaled 168 carries for 914 yards – 5.4 average – and 14 touchdowns with 48 receptions for 588 yards and two scores in 2020. He also suffered from ball-security issues over the course of the season, fumbling against Boston College, Syracuse and Georgia Tech.
The 5-foot-10, 200-pounder played well for Clemson in 2019, showing the speed to break off long gains on any carry. He averaged 7.8 yards per carry for 1,614 yards with 18 touchdowns. He also made 37 receptions for 432 yards and four touchdowns. Etienne averaged 8.1 yards per carry in 2018 for 1,658 yards with 24 touchdowns. He also caught 12 passes for 78 yards and two scores. -
Jacksonville Jaguars: Christian Darrisaw, OT, Virginia Tech
Jacksonville could stand to improve its offensive line to protect Trevor Lawrence. Even if Cam Robinson is brought back, the Jaguars could add another tackle and move Jawann Taylor inside to guard as a replacement/upgrade over A.J. Cann.
The 6-foot-5, 314-pound Darrisaw played well in 2020, creating a buzz. The junior has good size for the NFL and will enter the league as a 2-year starter at left tackle, assuming he declares for the 2021 NFL Draft. Team sources have a love/hate responses to Darrisaw. Some see him as worthy of going early in the first round and think he is a legit first-rounder. Other sources, including a director of college scouting, said Darrisaw is a second-round pick, at best. -
Cleveland Browns: Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, OLB, Notre Dame
The Browns could use some young talent on the defensive line and at linebacker. Of those needs, Owusu-Koromoah is the best value available, plus he could be a good defender for matching up with Cleveland’s division rivals.
Owusu-Koramoah (6-1, 215) has a shot at going in the opening night of the 2021 NFL Draft, but he is not the same caliber of prospect as Devin White, Roquan Smith or Patrick Willis. In 2020, Owusu-Koramoah had 61 tackles, 1.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, three passes broken up and an interception. In 2019, he had 79 tackles with 8.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and four passes defended.
Owusu-Koramoah is a fast linebacker with cover skills, and some team sources have compared him to former Jaguar Telvin Smith. Like Smith, Owusu-Koramoah could weigh in the 215-220-pound range, which is closer to the size of a safety than a linebacker. Some teams won’t be as high on a linebacker who is underweight for the NFL. -
Baltimore Ravens: Rashad Weaver, 3-4OLB, Pittsburgh
The Ravens could lose their top-four edge rushers in free agency. Even if they re-sign Matt Judon or Yannick Ngakoue, they probably won’t be able to afford both. Here’s a cheap 5-year edge rusher to go with Judon or Ngakoue.
Weaver flashed his pre-injury form in 2020 and showed the ability to get after the quarterback. He totaled 34 tackles, 7.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and two passes defended in 2020. Weaver had a strong 2018 season to get on the radar for NFL advance scouts, but his redshirt junior year – 2019 – ended before it started with a season-ending injury suffered in training camp. In 2018, he had 47 tackles with 6.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and four passes broken up. The 6-foot-5, 270-pounder has good size to go with speed and athleticism. -
New Orleans Saints: Christian Barmore, DT, Alabama
Before too long, the Saints could move on from Sheldon Rankins. Even if he comes back, they could consider adding an interior rusher to go with him.
Barmore recorded 37 tackles, eight sacks, three forced fumbles and three passes batted in 2020. He was a dangerous interior pass rusher capable of putting consistent heat on the quarterback. His run defense, however, needs work for the NFL. Barmore flashed ability as part of Alabama’s rotation in 2019, recording 26 tackles and two sacks. It was only his redshirt freshman season, so he could develop and become more well-rounded as he gains experience.
Some team sources are high on Barmore, while others want to see him become a more well-rounded player and a better run defender before they project him to be a high first-rounder. Hence, he might end up being more of a mid-first-round pick. The 6-foot-5, 310-pound Barmore has good size with length at the point of attack to go along with quickness and athleticism, so if he works out well he could rise. -
Green Bay Packers: Rodarius Williams, CB, Oklahoma State
The Packers need more cornerback talent to go with Jaire Alexander.
Sources from multiple teams say that Williams play was massively improved in 2020 and they think that he will be no worse than a second-day pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Williams did not produce a huge stat line in 2020, collecting 18 tackles and seven passes broken up, but scouts raved about the coverage ability he showed.
The 6-foot, 195-pound Williams has quality size and will enter the NFL with significant experience after playing all four years for the Cowboys. However in his first three years, teams threw at Williams and his play was that of a late-rounder according to team evaluators. Williams’ draft stock could continue to rise. -
Buffalo Bills: Liam Eichenberg, OT, Notre Dame
The Bills go with the best player available and grab some offensive line talent to protect Josh Allen.
Eichenberg won the left tackle job for 2018 as the replacement for Mike McGlinchey. The 6-foot-6, 305-pound Eichenberg was solid, but not overly impressive, for Notre Dame in 2019. He was wise to return for his senior year. Eichenberg was dominated by Michigan edge rusher Chase Winovich in the 2018 season opener, but after that, Eichenberg was much better for the Fighting Irish. Eichenberg possesses some physical talent, but he needs to improve his ability to handle speed rushers. -
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Dayo Odeyingbo, 3-4DE, Vanderbilt
The Bucs could use some youth on the edge. Jason Pierre-Paul is aging, while Shaq Barrett has not been signed long term. Even if Barrett is kept around, Tampa Bay could use an end to rotate with them. Odeyingbo also can rush from the inside in the sub package or play five-technique defensive end. He would be a nice fit in Todd Bowles’ defense.
Odeyingbo totaled 32 tackles, 5.5 sacks and a pass batted in 2020. He played better than the numbers illustrate and produced steady pressure on the quarterback. The 6-foot-6, 276-pound Odeyingbo is strong at the point of attack and possesses enough power to bull his way into the pocket and hold his ground in run defense. With his quality first-step and a second gear to get upfield, Odeyingbo can use a speed rush to put heat on the quarterback. He looks like a potential second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. -
Kansas City Chiefs: Alex Leatherwood, OT, Alabama
The Chiefs could use more offensive line youth to help protect Pat Mahomes and open holes for Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Kansas City has a ton of money invested in its offense and having more cheap young talent on the offensive line would help the team get more return on its investment. Leatherwood could start out at right tackle and eventually replace Eric Fisher as Mahomes’ blind-side protector.
Leatherwood (6-6, 322) played well for Alabama in 2019, showing that he has a first-round skill set of size, quickness and athleticism. Leatherwood did a nice job in 2020 as well, displaying good athleticism, feel, vision, and reaction skills. He produced a good tape against Georgia. In his first season, Leatherwood rotated into the game and replaced an injured Jonah Williams at left tackle to help Alabama win another National Championship. As a sophomore, Leatherwood started at right guard for the Crimson Tide.
