This page lists all the 2025 NFL Signings for the Seattle Seahawks. I’ve listed all of the NFL Free Agent Signing Grades here, which included the Signings. Because I’ve begun posting polls for the Signings, I thought it would make sense to list just the NFL Signings here, so archiving the voting would be easier.

April 2025 – Signings
Seahawks sign QB Drew Lock (2 years, $5 million): B Grade
signed on 4/11/2025
The Seahawks signed Sam Darnold to a $100 million contract this offseason, but they needed to add another quarterback for depth purposes. Their backup was Slingin’ Sammy Howell, so this was an area in which they could improve.
I’m not sure if Drew Lock is an improvement, but he at least adds competition and experience to the quarterback room. Lock was tremendous versus the Colts last year, but was dreadful in his other starts. He doesn’t provide much, but he was with the Seahawks earlier in his career, and he’s also very cheap. He’ll have a chance to beat Howell for the No. 2 job, so this is a fine signing.

March 2025 – Signings
Seahawks sign WR Cooper Kupp (3 years, $45 million): MILLEN Grade
signed on 3/14/2025
Wow, this is embarrassing. The Seahawks have a great front office, but this is a huge misstep. I’m absolutely shocked that Cooper Kupp received anything close to $15 million per season on this ridiculous 3-year deal.
I imagine the Seahawks didn’t watch Kupp closely last year because he was completely washed. He struggled to produce anything in the second half of the year. He eventually saw a big reduction in playing time, taking part in just 29 of the 56 snaps against the Vikings. Kupp, now 32, doesn’t appear to have anything left in the tank, so I thought a 1-year deal worth about $3 million would have been appropriate for him. Instead, the Seahawks gave him this mammoth contract because they were desperate at receiver.

Seahawks sign DE DeMarcus Lawrence (3 years, $42 million): D Grade
signed on 3/12/2025
This would have been an A+ signing three years ago. DeMarcus Lawrence, of course, was a great edge rusher back then. That is not the case anymore. Lawrence is 33, and he played in only four games last season.
I could maybe see the argument for this signing if the Seahawks were ready to compete for a Super Bowl this year. Perhaps they believe they can based on the Sam Darnold contract, but it doesn’t seem like that is the case. Either way, there’s no reason to give a 33-year-old a 3-year contract worth $14 million per season.

Seahawks sign WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling (1 year, $5.5 million): A- Grade
signed on 3/12/2025
Marquez Valdes-Scantling has played with some great quarterbacks in his career, but it was Derek Carr of all quarterbacks who turned him into a dynamic force. Valdes-Scantling had some huge games last year. Perhaps this was all a fluke, but he’ll have a chance to prove himself in Seattle with D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett gone.
I like this signing. It’s very cheap, so the Seahawks aren’t putting themselves at risk. They’re also giving their new quarterback a potential downfield play-making threat.

Seahawks sign QB Sam Darnold (3 years, $100.5 million): C Grade
signed on 3/10/2025
The Seahawks made a great trade a couple of days ago when they unloaded mediocre 35-year-old quarterback Geno Smith for a third-round pick. The question was what they were going to do to replace him. A quarterback draft pick made sense. Instead, Seattle signed Sam Darnold.
Seattle probably would have been better off rolling the dice on a quarterback. Darnold has struggled for most of his career. He was great last season, but he won’t have Kevin O’Connell or Justin Jefferson aiding him this time around. Darnold also tends to fold in big moments. However, he’s still young (28) and possesses talent. Plus, he’s familiar with offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, so he should have a smooth transition.

Seahawks re-sign LB Ernest Jones (3 years, $33 million): B- Grade
signed on 3/9/2025
Seattle had a ghastly run defense for the first half of the year. Things changed during the midpoint of the season, which was when the front office traded for Ernest Jones. The former Titans performed well for his new team, and the Seahawks have decided to keep him for $11 million per season.
Jones is a stout run defender, so I can understand why the Seahawks wanted to retain him. However, I’m not too stoked about this signing because this is a ton of money for a linebacker who struggles in coverage. If Jones were even just mediocre in coverage, I’d grade this move very highly, but that is most definitely not the case.

Seahawks re-sign DT Jarran Reed (3 years, $25 million): B or D Grade
signed on 3/9/2025
The Seahawks hit a home run with their trade of Geno Smith two days ago. This new transaction isn’t quite as good, though the grade should be correlated with what’s done at quarterback.
Jarran Reed is a quality interior pass rusher. However, he’ll turn 33 during the 2025 season. If the Seahawks obtain Sam Darnold or another quarterback who can help them win now, keeping Reed will make sense. If, however, the Seahawks go with a rookie quarterback at No. 18 overall, then this will be a complete waste because by the time that quarterback is ready to lead a deep playoff charge, Reed will be way over the hill.
