2025 NFL Signings Graded by Team: Kansas City Chiefs

This page lists all the 2025 NFL Signings for the Kansas City Chiefs. I’ve listed all of the NFL Free Agent Signing Grades here, which included the Signings. Because I’ve begun posting polls for the Signings, I thought it would make sense to list just the NFL Signings here, so archiving the voting would be easier.

March 2025 – Signings

Chiefs sign WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (1 year, $1.42 million): B Grade
signed on 3/26/2025

It seems like forever ago that JuJu Smith-Schuster was regarded as one of the bright, young receivers in the NFL. Smith-Schuster, however, has declined each year since his brilliant rookie campaign. He had a terrific performance against the Saints last year on a Monday night, but did nothing otherwise.

Re-signing Smith-Schuster is fine, but it won’t move the needle at all. This is just for depth purposes in case the Chiefs suffer a high number of injuries at receiver.

Chiefs sign QB Gardner Minshew (1 year, $1.17 million): A Grade
signed on 3/26/2025

I never thought I’d give a Gardner Minshew contract an “A” grade, yet here we are. It’s a weird timeline, I suppose.

I’ve said this a million times, but average backup quarterbacks make about $4 million per year. I’d say Minshew is an average backup at the very least. Two years ago, he nearly led the Colts to the playoffs, after all. Given that, I don’t understand how he couldn’t find a team to give him $4 million per season. This $1.17 million is a steal. A steal for Minshew, but a steal nonetheless.

Chiefs re-sign DE Charles Omenihu (1 year, $7 million): A Grade
signed on 3/21/2025

It makes sense that Charles Omenihu settled for a 1-year “prove it” deal. He would’ve gotten more than that, but he was coming off a down season because he was returning from a torn ACL. Omenihu is a talented edge rusher and should be able to outplay this contract. I love the great value the Chiefs are getting with him.

Chiefs re-sign RB Kareem Hunt (1 year, $1.5 million): B Grade
signed on 3/14/2025

This signing is confusing. The Chiefs signed Elijah Mitchell, so I assumed they would be going with him as the backup to Isiah Pacheco. I suppose it never hurts to have competition, but it would not be ideal if Hunt won it, barring injury, given how inefficient of a runner he was last year. Hunt is now 30, so the regression will continue.

Chiefs sign CB Kristian Fulton (2 years, $20 million): A Grade
signed on 3/11/2025

I didn’t view cornerback as being a big need for the Chiefs. Then again, this is not a huge contract. In fact, it’s a great bargain for Kristian Fulton, who is coming off his best season as a pro. Fulton, 27, has experienced an inconsistent career in the NFL, but perhaps his 2024 performance is a sign of things to come. I like that the Chiefs stole this player from a rival so they can use him to combat the best opposing quarterback in the division.

Chiefs sign RB Elijah Mitchell (1 year, $3.5 million): A Grade
signed on 3/10/2025

Elijah Mitchell is the second former 49er the Chiefs signed today, joining Jaylon Moore. Mitchell has been a quality backup running back throughout his career, which is exactly what the Chiefs needed after seeing what transpired when Isiah Pacheco got hurt last year. Mitchell would probably be a hot free agent this offseason had he stayed healthy last year once it was apparent that Christian McCaffrey wouldn’t be playing very much. This is a great deal, as Mitchell gives the Chiefs some nice insurance at a cheap price.

Chiefs sign OT Jaylon Moore (2 years, $30 million): A- Grade
signed on 3/10/2025

Jaylon Moore, a fifth-round pick from the 2021 NFL Draft, was once seen as a potential successor for Trent Williams. He’ll now be protecting Patrick Mahomes’ blind side instead.

Moore doesn’t have much experience, but he has performed well when given the chance. He started five games late last year and was terrific in most of them. He could flop, and he’s not super young (28), but Moore should be better than anything the Chiefs had at left tackle last year, which admittedly isn’t saying much.

Chiefs re-sign LB Nick Bolton (3 years, $45 million): B+ Grade
signed on 3/9/2025

The Chiefs have their work cut out for them this offseason in regard to addressing their offensive line. However, they had other tasks to accomplish, one of which was to re-sign Nick Bolton.

A former second-round pick, Bolton is a well-rounded linebacker with no weaknesses. He’s a key member of Kansas City’s defense, so he had to be retained. He’s not an elite linebacker, but this is a fair contract for a young player (25) who will likely continue to improve.

Chiefs re-sign WR Marquise Brown (1 year, $11 million): A+ Grade
signed on 3/8/2025

The Chiefs were working on re-signing Marquise Brown, so it’s definitely a coincidence that they agreed to terms with him several hours after learning of Xavier Worthy’s arrest for domestic assault.

However, given that Worthy is now in danger of missing games in 2025, this signing grade must be adjusted. I already liked it to begin with because there’s not much downside to a 1-year deal for a quality player, but Brown will now have to command a larger role for a portion of the upcoming season. Brown barely played last year, but should be able to emerge as a reliable threat for Patrick Mahomes.
