2025 NFL Signings Graded by Team: Carolina Panthers

This page lists all the 2025 NFL Signings for the Carolina Panthers. I’ve listed all of the NFL Free Agent Signing Grades here, which included the Signings. Because I’ve begun posting polls for the Signings, I thought it would make sense to list just the NFL Signings here, so archiving the voting would be easier.

March 2025 – Signings

Panthers sign RB Rico Dowdle (1 year, $6.25 million): A Grade
signed on 3/12/2025

Poor Jonathon Brooks can’t stay healthy, so the Panthers had to find a running back to share the workload with Chuba Hubbard. They’ve decided on Rico Dowdle, who was signed to a cheap, 1-year deal.

This is a great move for the Panthers. Hubbard and Dowdle will provide the offense with a nice one-two punch. Dowdle can handle the passing-down work, an area in which he thrived last year. The Panthers aren’t taking much of a risk with this signing, so it must be graded highly.

Panthers sign LB Christian Rozeboom (1 year, $3.5 million): C+ Grade
signed on 3/12/2025

Christian Rozeboom was a starting linebacker on the Rams last year. He was in way over his head, however, as he struggled in all facets. He’d be better off as a backup, which is what he’ll presumably be in Carolina, based on this contract. This move is just fine for depth purposes, but the Panthers will be in trouble if Rozeboom has to keep starting.

Panthers re-sign CB Michael Jackson (2 years, $14.5 million): A- Grade
signed on 3/10/2025

Michael Jackson has been a solid cornerback for the Seahawks and Panthers over the past couple of years. He’s not great by any means, but he’s underrated, and judging by this contract, he’s also underpaid. I like this move by the Panthers to retain one of their few competent defenders from last season.

Panthers sign DT Tershawn Wharton (3 years, $54 million): C- Grade
signed on 3/10/2025

Think the Panthers panicked after not getting Milton Williams? This is a colossal overpay. Tershawn Wharton is a nice player who can serve as a potent pass-rushing presence. He logged seven sacks last year, so I don’t hate him as a player. However, he’s undersized and can only play a limited number of snaps as a result. He’s a massive liability against the run. Wharton should have gotten about half as much as he did in this contract.

Panthers sign DT Bobby Brown (3 years, $21 million): B+ Grade
signed on 3/10/2025

The Panthers have done a lot to improve their run defense. Their latest move was signing Bobby Brown, a massive lineman who can help stop the rush. Brown doesn’t provide anything as a pass rusher, but he’ll certainly help on early downs. This contract is fair for Brown, who is very young (24).

Panthers sign DE Patrick Jones (2 years, $20 million): A Grade
signed on 3/10/2025

The Panthers had the worst pressure rate in the NFL last year. It got better when D.J. Wonnum returned from injury, but Carolina’s inability to get to the quarterback was still a huge problem.

Patrick Jones will certainly help in that regard. Serving as just a rotational player last year, Jones had seven sacks and played well against the run. He’ll be more productive in a larger role, and at 26, he has plaenty of potential.

Panthers sign S Trevon Moehrig (3 years, $51 million): B Grade
signed on 3/10/2025

The Raiders haven’t had great play at safety over the years, but Trevon Moehrig was an exception. He hasn’t been very good in coverage, but he’s a tremendous force in run support. He’s also just 26, so there’s room for improvement.

I like this addition for the Panthers, who were woeful against the run last year. It’s a bit expensive, but the Panthers will definitely benefit from having Moehrig on their roster.

Panthers re-sign CB Jaycee Horn (4 years, $100 million): B+ Grade
signed on 3/10/2025

Carolina had some major defensive problems last year. Jaycee Horn was not one of them. Horn didn’t have his best year, as his decline could have been attributed to the league’s worst pass rush, but he still covered very well. He was even better in 2023, albeit in a shortened season due to injury.

Horn is incredibly talented and young (24), so giving him this huge contract makes sense. He projects to be one of the better cornerbacks in the NFL over the next four years, so he deserves this deal. It’s not a bargain, or anything, so I’ll give the Panthers a B+ for this move.

February 2025 – Signings

Panthers re-sign QB Andy Dalton (2 years, $8 million; $6 million guaranteed): B- Grade
signed on 2/20/2025

It seems like ages since Andy Dalton was a starting quarterback in the NFL. He’s been a backup for a while now, and he’s been a top-level reserve for many of those seasons. Things have changed, however, as Dalton will turn 38 in October. He had a great game versus the Raiders last year, but struggled for the most part otherwise.

Given Dalton’s regression, I can’t say I’m a big fan of this signing. However, it doesn’t come with an egregious price tag, and Dalton knows the system, so I think this move is just fine.
