This page lists all the 2025 NFL Signings for the Houston Texans. I’ve listed all of the NFL Free Agent Signing Grades here, which included the Signings. Because I’ve begun posting polls for the Signings, I thought it would make sense to list just the NFL Signings here, so archiving the voting would be easier.

April 2025 – Signings
Texans re-sign CB/S Jalen Pitre (3 years, $39 million): B+ Grade
signed on 4/11/2025
Jalen Pitre entered the NFL as a second-round pick but improved every season he’s been in the NFL. He was superb as Houston’s slot cornerback last year before suffering a torn pectoral at the end of November that knocked him out for the rest of the year.
I have to wonder if the Texans may have had to pay more for Pitre if it weren’t for that injury. Re-signing him was a quality decision, as he’s young (26 in June) and talented. He’ll continue to be a key piece of Houston’s secondary at a reasonable price.

March 2025 – Signings
Texans sign LB E.J. Speed (1 year, $5 million): A- Grade
signed on 3/29/2025
The Texans have an outstanding defense, but the linebacking corps is not very deep. It makes sense that they would sign a player at the position for depth purposes.
E.J. Speed is a solid acquisition. He gets lost in coverage, but he’s very effective in run support. He’ll be able to fill in that role well. I also like that the Texans sniped a player from a rival. The only downside is that Speed is now 30, but he should still do well for one season.

Texans sign OT Trent Brown (1 year, $3 million): A Grade
signed on 3/21/2025
Trent Brown would be known as one of the better tackles in the NFL if he could stay healthy. Unfortunately for Brown, his durability has been awful throughout his career. Now that he’s 32, it seems unlikely that this would change.
Despite Brown’s downside, this is an excellent signing. The Texans have a troubled offensive line, so they had to take a chance on someone like Brown. Signing him could really pay off for them. And if Brown continues to constantly be injured, then it’s not like Houston will be punished at all.

Texans re-sign DE Danielle Hunter (1 year, $35.6 million): B+ Grade
signed on 3/19/2025
The Texans dismantled their offensive line this offseason, but their defensive front is at least still intact. That will continue to be the case, as the Texans have given Danielle Hunter a 1-year extension worth $35.6 million.
Hunter is an outstanding edge rusher. He had 12 sacks last year, and 42 over the past three seasons. The only danger here is that Hunter just turned 30, but he has shown no signs of regressing. Thus, I like this move, given that the Texans were able to open up some cap flexibility for the short term.

Texans sign OT Cam Robinson (1 year, $12 million): A Grade
signed on 3/19/2025
C.J. Stroud can now breathe a sign of relief, at least for the short term. The Texans traded away his terrific left tackle, Larmey Tunsil, to the Redskins, so the Texans had a huge hole at the position. That’s no longer the case, with Cam Robinson joining the team for one year.
Robinson will now replace Tunsil after doing so with Christian Darrisaw last year. Robinson was not great by any means, but he did a decent job of filling in for the All-Pro left tackle. He can fill the same role in Houston, and it’s nice that the Texans aren’t taking on a huge risk with this 1-year deal.

Texans sign CB Ronald Darby (1 year, $2.5 million): B+ Grade
signed on 3/17/2025
Back when he was with the Bills and Eagles, Ronald Darby was known as a talented, but injury-prone cornerback. Now, he’s old, mediocre, and injury-prone. Darby, who turned 31 this offseason, isn’t nearly the same player he once was.
Despite this, it’s hard to hate the Texans for signing Darby. He knows the division, given that he played in Jacksonville last year, and he’s a solid depth piece, especially at his cheap price.

Texans re-sign CB Derek Stingley Jr. (3 years, $90 million): B Grade
signed on 3/17/2025
Derek Stingley Jr. had a dismal rookie year, but has improved exponentially since then. He’s become one of the better cornerbacks in the NFL, so it’s hardly a surprise that he received a big contract.
The only downside to this deal is that Stingley has a checkered injury history. However, he played a full season in 2025, so perhaps that’s a sign that he has overcome those issues.

Texans sign DL Mario Edwards (2 years, $9.5 million): B- Grade
signed on 3/11/2025
The Texans have gotten rid of all of their offensive linemen, but at least they’re keeping players on the defensive front. Re-signing Mario Edwards is a fine move. He’s an OK rotational pass rusher, but gets beaten up in run support. This is a slight overpay, but definitely not an egregious one.

Texans sign G Laken Tomlinson (1 year, $4.25 million): C+ Grade
signed on 3/11/2025
The Texans must have looked into what Charley Casserly did to David Carr about 20 years ago and thought he was onto something. In the past week, Houston has jettisoned three starting offensive linemen, including Laremy Tunsil, and only signed Laken Tomlinson in return. C.J. Stroud can’t be very happy right now.
Tomlinsonw as once a solid guard, but those days are long gone. He wasn’t terrible for the Seahawks last year, but he wasn’t good either. He’s a fine backup at this stage of his career, so the details of this contract would suggest that is Houston views him. However, given the holes on the offensive line, Tomlinson currently projects as a starter, which is horrible news for Stroud.

Texans sign DE/OLB Darrell Taylor (1 year, $5.25 million): B+ Grade
signed on 3/10/2025
Bears fans won’t like this signing. Chicago acquired Darrell Taylor, who turned out to be a huge disappointment for them. However, Taylor had 23 sacks in three seasons with the Seahawks, so perhaps he’ll rebound with DeMeco Ryans. Taylor is still fairly young at 28, so there’s no reason to think he won’t have a bounce-back season.

Texans sign WR Braxton Berrios (1 year, $2 million): B- Grade
signed on 3/10/2025
Braxton Berrios is just a depth player at this stage of his career. This would have been a better signing a couple of seasons ago, but Berrios is now a 29-year-old coming off a major knee injury. Houston shouldn’t expect much from him, though that’s what the terms of this contract indicate.
