2025 NFL Signings Graded by Team: Los Angeles Chargers

Change Team:

This page lists all the 2025 NFL Signings for the Los Angeles Chargers. I’ve listed all of the NFL Free Agent Signing Grades here, which included the Signings. Because I’ve begun posting polls for the Signings, I thought it would make sense to list just the NFL Signings here, so archiving the voting would be easier.

April 2025 – Signings

Chargers sign QB Trey Lance (1 year, $6.2 million): A Grade
signed on 4/4/2025

This compensation is a far cry from what the Cowboys surrendered for Trey Lance. Jerry Jones gave away a fourth-round pick for Lance, yet watched as the coaching staff refused to play him during the latter stages of a ruined season. Now, Lance will be signing just a 1-year “prove it” deal.

I like this move for the Chargers. I mean, why not do it? Lance is still young (25 in May) and has plenty of potential. He has shown no signs of reaching his upside, but perhaps Jim Harbaugh will be able to work his magic and then fool another team into trading a fourth-round pick for him.

March 2025 – Signings

Chargers sign TE Tyler Conklin (1 year, $3 million): B+ Grade
signed on 3/21/2025

Tyler Conklin was a disappointing stat producer last year, though that could be said of all the Jets. Conklin was expected to be a target for Aaron Rodgers in the end zone, but he found the end zone on just four occasions. However, that doesn’t mean that this is a bad signing. The Chargers don’t have much going on at tight end, and Conklin is a capable blocker. This is a fair price for him.

Chargers sign C Andre James (1 year, $1.17 million): A+ Grade
signed on 3/20/2025

I don’t understand how Andre James didn’t generate more interest in the open market. He’s coming off a down, injury-plagued year, but he’s played on a high level in the past. He’s still just 28, so he can certainly rebound in 2025.

Given that, this is an amazing signing. There’s a good chance James will be able to supplant Bradley Bozeman, who was a liability last season.

Chargers sign G/OT Mekhi Becton (2 years, $20 million): B Grade
signed on 3/15/2025

Mekhi Becton is trending to be this generation’s Robert Gallery. The former Raider lineman was a huge bust as a highly drafted offensive tackle, but thrived after moving to guard. Becton was awful for the Jets at tackle, but he signed with the Eagles and then was excellent upon shifting to guard.

This could end up being a great signing. The Chargers were already set at tackle, but needed help in the interior, which Becton could provide. The concern is that Becton has weight-control issues, and this $20 million contract could make him fat and happy.

Chargers sign CB Benjamin St-Juste (1 year, $2.5 million): C- Grade
signed on 3/14/2025

It was hilarious to see some of the reaction from Redskins fans when a fake account posted that Washington re-signed Benjamin St-Juste to a 3-year, $30 million contract. St-Juste has been one of the worst starting cornerbacks in the NFL, so it’s unclear why the Chargers had any interest. This contract suggests that he’ll be a backup, but he won’t be a very good one.

Chargers re-sign QB Taylor Heinicke (1 year, $6.2 million): B Grade
signed on 3/13/2025

Average backup quarterbacks tend to make about $4 million per year. Better No. 2 signal-callers make a bit more, and that’s what Taylor Heinicke is. He’s not an elite backup, but he’s definitely a very good one. The Chargers will be in good hands with him if he’s forced into starting a few games in 2025.

Chargers sign DT Da'Shawn Hand (1 year, $3.3 million): B Grade
signed on 3/13/2025

Da’Shawn Hand is a Jack of all trades, master of nothing. He’s sub par when it comes to run support and pass rush. He has just five career sacks. Still, he can be OK body for depth purposes on the defensive line, and it’s not like the Chargers are very deep there, so this signing makes sense.

Chargers sign WR Mike Williams (1 year, $6 million): A Grade
signed on 3/12/2025

Mike Williams returns home. After playing for the Jets and Steelers last year, Williams has returned to San Angeles to play for the Chargers once again for $6 million.

I love this signing. Williams did nothing last year, but that was predictable, given that he was coming off a torn ACL. Now another year removed from that, Williams figures to bounce back with a much better 2025 campaign. There is one concern, and that would be age (30), but it’s not like Williams is well into his 30s yet.

Chargers re-sign LB Denzel Perryman (1 year, $3.65 million): A+ Grade
signed on 3/12/2025

You can tell whenever Denzel Perryman is out of the lineup. His team suddenly gets so much worse against the run. This is what transpired last year, as the Chargers struggled versus the rush when Perryman missed time.

The Chargers did a great job to retain Perryman. There’s a chance he could decline at the age of 32, but given what he’s asked to do, he should be fine. Even still, any decline isn’t a big deal, given that this is a cheap, 1-year contract.

Chargers re-sign C Bradley Bozeman (2 years, $6.5 million): B+ Grade
signed on 3/12/2025

Bradley Bozeman re-signed with the Chargers a couple of days ago, but we’re finally getting the contract details. Bozeman’s 2-year deal is worth $6.25 million, which is very cheap considering that it was initially reported that he received $12 million per year.

Bozeman is not a very good center because he struggles in pass protection. However, he’s a solid run blocker, which is what Jim Harbaugh wants out of his linemen. This is a decent signing, given the cheap price.

Chargers sign RB Najee Harris (1 year, $9.25 million): A Grade
signed on 3/10/2025

If Najee Harris weren’t a former first-round pick, no one would be talking about him as being a bust. In fact, people would be praising him for panning out, given that he has rushed for at least 1,000 yards in each of his first four seasons. However, Harris was a first-round pick and hasn’t been special enough to warrant such a resource.

Of course, the Chargers aren’t tied to this compensation. In fact, they’re getting him for just one season, so there aren’t any damaging long-term ramifications from this contract. Harris will be a more durable back than what the Chargers had last year in J.K. Dobbins.

Chargers sign CB Donte Jackson (2 years, $13 million): B Grade
signed on 3/10/2025

There was some optimism for the Steelers when they acquired Donte Jackson last offseason. However, he struggled with Pittsburgh and lasted only a year with the team. There’s a chance he’ll rebound with the Chargers, who needed a cornerback, so I like that he was obtained cheaply. Then again, there’s a chance that Jackson is just past his prime at 29 and never recovers.

Chargers re-sign OLB Khalil Mack (1 year, $18 million): A Grade
signed on 3/10/2025

The Chargers cut Joey Bosa this offseason. Losing both Bosa and Khalil Mack would have been extremely taxing on the defense, so it’s a good thing that they managed to retain the latter.

Mack is 34, so some major regression is coming soon. We haven’t seen any signs of that the past two years, however. Mack logged 18 sacks in 2023 and played better than his seven-sack campaign indicates in 2024. The Chargers are mostly protected with this being a 1-year deal, so they must be graded accordingly for keeping their star edge rusher.

February 2025 – Signings

Chargers re-sign S Elijah Molden (3 years, $18.75 million; $13.5 million guaranteed): B+ Grade
signed on 2/21/2025

It’s safe to say that the Titans didn’t know what they had in Elijah Molden. They dealt him away for nothing ahead of the beginning of the 2024 regular season. Molden went on to have a strong year, particularly in coverage.

It makes sense for the Chargers to re-sign Molden, who is only 26. He could continue to improve, which might make this contract seem like a great bargain in the future. Then again, Molden could end up being just a 1-year wonder, so this could end up being an overpay as well.
