Back to Overreaction 2015 NFL Mock Draft: Picks 1-16

  1. New Orleans Saints: Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State
The Saints could trade down and still land a defensive upgrade at cornerback or linebacker. A young cornerback who can match up against No. 1 receivers could really make a big difference for New Orleans’ defense. Having Waynes and Keenan Lewis together could form a tough duo for the Saints.

  2. San Diego Chargers: Cedric Ogbuehi, OT, Texas A&M
As Justin Houston just illustrated, the Chargers need a left tackle to pair with D.J. Fluker. Ogbuehi is a good scheme fit for San Diego.

  3. Dallas Cowboys: Arik Armstead, DE/DT, Oregon
TRADE! The Browns move down again. Dallas has built an excellent offensive line and now has to do so on the other side of the ball. I could see Jerry Jones aggressively landing a lineman who can work inside and outside. Rod Marinelli could use more ends who can get after the quarterback, plus Jones likes lineman with size. Armstead and DeMarcus Lawrence could set the Cowboys up in the long run at defensive end.

  4. Philadelphia Eagles: Jalen Collins, CB, LSU
The Eagles clearly didn’t do enough to address their secondary last offseason, and they’ll have to do something about that with some long-term solutions next year. Philadelphia needs help at both corner and safety. Here, the organization addresses one corner.

  5. Indianapolis Colts: Vic Beasley, OLB, Clemson
You know you lack pass rush when Erik Walden is leading your team in sacks at the end of the regular season. Bjoern Werner is improving, but the Colts could use a pass-rusher on the other side. Beasley could be an immediate upgrade.

  6. Baltimore Ravens: Ronald Darby, CB, Florida State
The Ravens need help at cornerback, wide receiver and running back. Ozzie Newsome has been more inclined to draft for the defense in the first round.

  7. Cincinnati Bengals: Alvin Dupree, DE, Kentucky
The Bengals need a pass-rusher to go on the other side from Carlos Dunlap. Margus Hunt has been a disappointment thus far.

  8. Detroit Lions: Danny Shelton, DT, Washington
The Lions may keep Ndamukong Suh and let Nick Fairley leave in free agency. However, there are a lot of teams that could make a big run at Suh and the money may get too high for Detroit. Don’t be surprised if the Lions are targeting a defensive tackle in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

  9. Arizona Cardinals: Shilique Calhoun, DE, Michigan State
The Cardinals could use an edge rusher to replace John Abraham. Calhoun is a good scheme fit for Arizona.

  10. Pittsburgh Steelers: Kevin Johnson, CB, Wake Forest
The Steelers have to get some young talent at corner and like big cornerbacks. Some say they won’t draft one in the first round, but I heard that while predicting Pittsburgh to take Jarvis Jones. I can see the Steelers addressing cornerback immediately.

  11. Carolina Panthers: Jaelen Strong, WR, Arizona State
Carolina missed out on the top offensive tackles, so it makes sense to move down. The Panthers could target help on at cornerback, on the offensive line, or they could add another receiver for Cam Newton. Strong is the best value at those positions and would give Carolina two big physical receivers.

  12. Cleveland Browns: Kevin White, WR, West Virginia
After moving down, Cleveland could still land a receiver. There are reports that Browns are looking to deal Josh Gordon, but even if they keep him, they need another receiver for their offense. Gordon could land another suspension at any time, and Cleveland knows that it can’t count on him. With Gordon’s lack of reliability, another potential No. 1 receiver makes a ton of sense.

  13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: La’el Collins, OT/G, LSU
TRADE! Tampa Bay moves up with Denver to grab a blocker to protect its new franchise quarterback. The Bucs’ offensive line was horrible in 2014. Collins could step in at guard or tackle for Tampa Bay. It would make sense for the Buccaneers to get in front of Green Bay, New England and Seattle to make sure they bring Collins to Tampa Bay.

  14. Green Bay Packers: Erik Kendricks, OLB, UCLA
The Packers wanted to draft Ryan Shazier last year and still need to upgrade their inside linebackers. Kendricks would be a great fit and could be a steal for Green Bay.

  15. Oakland Raiders: Duke Johnson, RB, Miami
TRADE! The Raiders could use a feature back to pair with Latavius Murray since Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew are done. Johnson would bring an explosive element to the Oakland offense and make Derek Carr’s job easier.

  16. New York Jets: T.J. Yeldon, RB, Alabama
TRADE! The Jets could use a running back to pair with Chris Ivory. Chris Johnson is nearing the end of the line.

Second-Round Picks

  1. Denver Broncos: Denzel Perryman, ILB, Miami
The Broncos grab an improvement for the middle of their defense. Steven Johnson and Nate Irving aren’t the answer for Denver.

  2. New England Patriots: Devin Smith, WR, Ohio State
Danny Amendola hasn’t worked out, while the Patriots’ young wideouts haven’t proven to be long-term answers. New England could use more weapons for Tom Brady. Smith would give the Patriots a deep threat to take the top off a defense.

  1. Seattle Seahawks: Eddie Goldman, DT, Florida State
The Seahawks lost some veteran defensive linemen last offseason. The team has Kevin Williams and Brandon Mebane, but they are short-term veterans. Jordan Hill has impressed lately, but Seattle could grab more defensive line talent to go with him.

  1. Buffalo Bills: Gerod Holliman, S, Louisville
The Bills lost Jairus Byrd last offseason while Da’Norris Searcy is hitting free agency this year. Buffalo could land a ballhawk in Holliman, but the coaches will need to teach him how to tackle.
