Charlie Campbell's 2012 NFL Mock Re-Draft: Round Five

Last update: Saturday, April 28, 2012.
This is a 2012 NFL Mock Re-Draft of Rounds 4 and 5 for Saturday's NFL Draft coverage. With all of the trades that will go down, I don't expect to get many of these right, but it's still fun to speculate where the top prospects will go on Day 3 of the 2012 NFL Draft.

  1. Indianapolis Colts: Alameda Ta'amu, NT, Washington
    The Colts grab a nose tackle to man the middle of their 3-4 defense.

    Pick change; previously Cyrus Gray, RB



  2. Denver Broncos: Joe Adams, WR, Arkansas
    The Broncos add a speedy slot receiver for Peyton Manning to work with.


  3. Minnesota Vikings: Senio Kelemete, OT/G, Washington
    The Vikings need tons of help on their offensive line. Kelemete has received a lot of interest from Minnesota.


  4. Minnesota Vikings: Nick Toon, WR, Wisconsin
    The Vikings need a wide receiver to complement Percy Harvin and Adrian Peterson.

  5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Taylor Thompson, TE, SMU
    The Buccaneers want to add a backup tight end. They've brought Thompson in for a pre-draft visit and are interested.


  6. Washington Redskins: Philip Thomas, S, Syracuse
    After signing Tanard Jackson, the Redskins add their second troubled Syracuse product. Washington has had Thomas in for a visit.


  7. Jacksonville Jaguars: Leonard Johnson, CB, Iowa State
    Gene Smith drafted a punter in the third round. He may just led his final draft as Jaguars general manager. The Jags passed on a lot of good corners in doing so.

  8. Carolina Panthers: Chris Givens, WR, Wake Forest
    The Panthers land an understudy to Steve Smith.

  9. Buffalo Bills: Malik Jackson, DE, Tennessee
    The Bills select a backup defensive end to go behind their veteran free agents.


  10. Miami Dolphins: Tommy Streeter, WR, Miami
    The Dolphins could use more help at wide receiver, and Streeter is a nice value in the fifth round.


  11. Kansas City Chiefs: James-Michael Johnson, ILB, Nevada
    The Chiefs could use depth at inside linebacker.

  12. Buffalo Bills: Jaye Howard, DT, Florida
    The Bills get a defensive tackle to fortify their depth.




  13. Oakland Raiders: Frank Alexander, DE/OLB, Oklahoma
    The Raiders need more youth on their defensive line on both the edge and the interior. Alexander and Chapman are good values for Oakland in the fifth round.


  14. San Diego Chargers: Lamar Miller, RB, Miami
    The Chargers could use a running back to replace Darren Sproles. I'm guessing there are some character concerns pushing Miller down.

  15. St. Louis Rams: Brandon Washington, G, Miami
    The Bears grab some offensive line depth.

  16. Arizona Cardinals: Nate Potter, OT, Boise State
    The Cardinals could use a better pass protector like Potter.

  17. Dallas Cowboys: Ronald Leary, G, Memphis
    Sources have indicated that the Cowboys have a serious interest in Leary. He's went to Dallas for a pre-draft visit.


  18. Philadelphia Eagles: Janzen Jackson, S, McNeese State
    The Eagles get some safety help and have shown interest in Jackson in the form of a pre-draft visit.


  19. Seattle Seahawks: Kheeston Randall, DE/DT, Texas
    The Seahawks could use more help on the defensive line.

    Pick change; previously Terrance Ganaway, RB/FB (NYJ)


  20. Tennessee Titans: Tim Fugger, DE, Vanderbilt
    The Titans are interested in Fugger and are having him visit before the draft.




  21. Cincinnati Bengals: Terrell Manning, OLB, North Carolina State
    Cincinnati may need some depth at linebacker after trading away Keith Rivers.

    Pick change; previously Demario Davis, OLB


  22. Atlanta Falcons: Ladarius Green, TE, Louisiana-Lafayette
    The Falcons could use a backup tight end. They brought Green in for a visit.

  23. Detroit Lions: Travis Lewis, OLB, Oklahoma
    The Lions need linebacker help and are brought in Lewis for a pre-draft visit.


  24. Pittsburgh Steelers: Vick Ballard, RB, Mississippi State
    Here, the Steelers get some depth at running back. They'll need it.

  25. Cleveland Browns: Dwight Jones, WR, North Carolina
    The Browns get a receiver.

    Pick change; previously Travian Robertson, DE/DT


  26. Houston Texans: Tim Benford, WR, Tennessee Tech
    The Texans go with a speedy receiving threat.


  27. New Orleans Saints: Deangelo Peterson, TE, LSU
    New Orleans wants to improve its backup tight ends, and Peterson could be a nice fit in the team's offense.


  28. New England Patriots: James Brown, OT, Troy
    The Patriots get an offensive tackle for depth.

  29. Atlanta Falcons: Travian Robertson, DE/DT, South Carolina
    The Falcons could use depth on the D-line.

  30. San Francisco 49ers: Jared Crick, DE/DT, Nebraska
    San Francisco goes with some defensive-line depth.

    Pick change; previously Cliff Harris, CB/PR


  31. Cincinnati Bengals: Winston Guy, Jr., S, Kentucky
    The Bengals grab a safety since it is a need on the roster.


  32. Cincinnati Bengals: Cyrus Gray, RB, Texas A&M
    Cincinnati adds a running back that is a good scheme fit.

  33. Oakland Raiders: Josh Chapman, DT, Alabama
    The Raiders grab a defensive tackle to continue to add talent to their front seven.

    The Ravens could use some depth at wide receiver.


  35. Indianapolis Colts: Keith Tandy, CB, West Virginia
    The Colts get a cornerback for their secondary. They had Tandy in for a visit.

Steelers will not draft Adams even if given the chance. They traded away a superbowl mvp in holmes for being charged with possession, the same thing Adams was just caught for.

Current biggest needs are a starting CB, interior OL and ILB depth.

Somehow ILB waits until the 6th round and interior OL doesn't happen at all. Just another Charlie on the shortbus draft.

The reason why Chandler Jones is mocked that high because is hi stock is rising. NFL Networks' Mike Mayock said "Jones is the 9th rated player on my draft board". Hes similar to Aldon Smith of the 49ers, who was drafted 7th overall last year. Smith had 14 sacks in his rookie year. A half of a sack short of tying the NFL rookie record, for sacks in a season. Its held by Jevon Kearse, who had 14.5, in the 1999 NFL season.

Love the Steelers draft Charlie.

The only pick I think you missed on is David Paulson in the 4th. Too early. He will be a 5th or 6th.

Other than that, it was great.

DE, WR, CB, LB, OL, DE, LB Projected by Charlie for my Bears. I have no problems with that. As a matter of fact that would be a great Draft us. All positions of need and/or provide depth for our aging or ineffective positions. If Tice can possibly pull a rabbit out of his hat and make our O-Line solid we can realistically compete this year.

At 15, NO WAY eagles go for a CB. They need a slot guy, which Gilmore isnt. Id bet on a trade up late 1st early 2nd for Jenkins or maybe Hosley, but not Gilmore.

So San Diego takes the fifth ranked pass rusher on your rankings when 2-4 are available? Is there inside info I'm missing on why Jones continues to be mocked to SD when the other guys (Upshaw,Mercilus,McClellin) are generally higher ranked and are a better fit for SD?

1 - Tannehill was originally beat out for the starting QB job in college.
2 - Coach Sherman got fired from a college team with Tannehill as the QB.

I don't care if he is a great teammate and willing to play WR instead of QB. He is not a top 10 pick at QB, WR or any other position.
