Yhonzae Pierre Prospect Preview

By Charlie Campbell

Career Recap:

Pierre barely saw the field in 2024, totaling only six tackles and two passes batted on the season. In 2025, he was a breakout defender in the SEC and was the most disruptive player in the Alabama front seven. He totaled 52 tackles with eight sacks, three forced fumbles, and a pass batted.

2026 Season Outlook:

The best games to watch Pierre include Georgia (Oct. 10), Texas A&M (Oct. 24), and LSU (Nov. 7).

Prospect Summary:

Alabama produced a ton of interior defensive line and edge rushers for the NFL during the Nick Saban era. With Saban retired, Pierre had a breakout season to continue the Crimson Tide’s tradition. Pierre has some natural quarterback-hunting skills with good instincts, vision, and ability to read and react. He can rush from a variety of spots and is a physical defender. Now that he has a year of experience, Pierre could be even better in 2026.

For the NFL, Pierre is a dangerous pass rusher as he attacks offenses in a variety of ways. He is very good at lining up as a linebacker off the line of scrimmage, waiting for openings post-snap, and then exploding to the quarterback. Pierre has good vision to see openings and dart through space in the line. Pierre will read plays well to explode up the middle or loop around the edge. On top of his blitzing read-and-react skills, Pierre can rush off the edge lining up as an end or standing up over the tackle. Pierre has an impressive bull rush and speed to power. While he is not blinding fast, he has quickness and a burst to close.

While Pierre is not a big defender, he has some good strength for his size and shows some ability to set the edge. He has the power to take on and shed some blocks while also being able to hold his ground. However, he will give up a lot of weight to pro tackles, so Pierre could have issues holding up for four quarters as a run defender in the NFL if he is lining up as an end. Hence, he might fit better as a Sam linebacker in the base package and then move over the edge in the sub package.

To improve his ability to produce in the NFL, Pierre could stand to improve his repertoire of moves. Pierre looks like he could have starter grades as an edge defender.
