Trey'Dez Green Prospect Preview

By Charlie Campbell

Prospect Summary:

Over the last 15 years, the NFL has been infatuated with pass-receiving tight ends who can present a mismatch in the aerial offense. Dynamic tight ends can be difficult to find, but they are true assets for a pro offense. They create mismatches lining up tight against the tackle, split out in the slot, or spread out wide. Linebackers struggle to run with an athletic tight end with speed, and defensive backs struggle with the size of tight ends. Tight ends that can be split out wide one-on-one against a defensive back or linebacker are a great weapon on third downs and inside the 10-yard line. Receiving tight ends also make 12 (double tight ends) and 13 (triple tight ends) personnel much more difficult to defend. Thus, there should be plenty of NFL teams targeting Green in the 2027 NFL Draft.

There is no doubt that Green is a dynamic and dangerous receiving weapon. Every play, his extreme height and length make him a threat to produce a big catch downfield. With his size, Green is never covered. Defenders can mirror him precisely, gain good position, and blanket him with perfect coverage, but Green just uses his height and length to make catches over them. Green is deadly on 50-50 passes with an amazing ability to make contested catches over defenders. He has strong hands, leaping ability, and a large frame that make him extremely effective. In the red zone and on third downs, he gives his quarterback a great safety weapon to just throw the ball up and let Green go get it over a defender. Green is a flat-out dominant weapon near the goal line who can split out wide from the box. He can use his size to wall off defenders on slants, outjump them on fades, and block them off going to the sideline. Green is an elite weapon for his quarterback.

Aside from 50-50 passes, Green is good as a possession receiver. He runs quality routes, finds soft spots in zone, and has some run-after-the-catch skills. Green has strong hands to snatch the ball and the speed to get downfield. In the pros, he could be a dynamic F tight end.
