2027 NFL Scouting Report: Ashton Hampton

Prospect Summary:

The NFL is always looking for cornerbacks who can limit receivers and take away mismatch weapons. Thus, there should be plenty of teams that are interested in drafting Hampton. He is a giant cornerback with excellent height, length, and weight to play at the pro level. While he is big, he also shows quality speed and quickness for a big cornerback. There will probably be plenty of teams looking at Hampton as a future pro starter.

With his excellent height, length, and weight, Hampton is an ideal press-man cover corner. He does an excellent job of staying in phase and turning and running to stay with receivers along the sideline. His size covers up receivers and makes it difficult for quarterbacks to get the ball around him. Hampton’s length, weight, and strength allow him to stay in good position and not get pushed around by big receivers. Hampton is adept at keeping his eyes on the quarterback and knowing when he should look back for the ball.

Hampton showed nice ability to play zone coverage, and did well in off-man for a big cornerback. Many big corners have issues playing off-man, but Hampton was impressive in this regard in 2025. Hampton would fit best in press-man and zone coverage in the NFL.

In the ground game, Hampton is a good contributor. He is a willing tackler, and he will explode downhill. Hampton is superb at defending the flat against screen passes as he will fire his gun and come downhill in a blur. Hampton will dish out some hard hits and shows impressive tackling ability for a cornerback. Hampton should be an asset as a run defender as a pro.

Hampton looks like a reasonably safe pick to turn into a quality starter at outside cornerback in the NFL.
