Sammy Brown Prospect Preview

By Charlie Campbell

Career Recap:

Over the past two seasons, Brown has been a rock-solid defender for Clemson and has shown next-level ability. In his debut in 2024, he had an impressive season with 80 tackles, five sacks, and three passes broken up. In 2025, Brown was even better with 106 tackles, five sacks, one forced fumble, an interception, and five passes broken up.

2026 Season Outlook:

Brown will see some quality opponents in 2026, and the best games to watch him include LSU (Sep. 5) and Miami (Oct. 3). LSU has good receiving tight ends to test his pass coverage while Miami features a hard-nosed runner and mobile quarterback.

Prospect Summary:

Over the past couple of seasons, there has been a renewed emphasis on employing a smashmouth rushing offense as it has propelled franchises like the Eagles, Lions, and Patriots to wins and championships. NFL teams are paying running backs big contracts again, and with teams running the ball more, run stuffers are more in demand, and Brown looks like a future three-down starting middle linebacker.

For the NFL, Brown is a rock-solid run defender who is tough in the tackle box. Brown is a very instinctive linebacker and is fast to read his keys to get in position to make plays. With impressive play recognition and diagnosis skills, Brown will regularly blow up runs in the backfield and make tackles near the line of scrimmage. He is quick to read his keys, fire his gun, and explode to the ball carrier. Brown is a superb form tackler who wraps up ball carriers and does not miss tackles because he is going for a knockout blow. With good speed, Brown can defend runs to the flat and is capable of going sideline-to-sideline. Brown has the size to take on blocks and has no fear of contact. Brown looks like he will be an asset as a run defender as soon as his rookie season in the NFL.

In pass coverage, Brown is a good zone linebacker who covers a lot of ground. He has good instincts, can get depth in his drop, and disrupts passing lanes. Brown also is a dangerous blitzer, showing a nice ability to surprise quarterbacks with blitzes up the middle or around the edge. For the NFL, Brown may not be an elite man coverage linebacker to go against receiving tight ends, but he should be a solid contributor in coverage.

Brown has a good skill set, instincts, and is a well-rounded player. He looks like a safe pick to turn into a quality starter in the NFL.
