Walt’s Latest Redskins Power Ranking

Rank: 16
Previously: 29
The Redskins improved their defense by drafting Sonny Styles and adding a couple of other pieces, including Odafe Oweh, Leo Chenal, and Amik Robertson. The important thing is Jayden Daniels’ health. If Daniels can remain on the field for most of 2026, the Redskins will have a good chance of making a playoff run.

Walt’s Team Needs Assessment
Needs
The Redskins had Super Bowl aspirations heading into 2025, but they were huge disappointments. Jayden Daniels was constantly injured, while the defense was ranked dead last by the end of the season.
- Two Edge Rushers: Dorance Armstrong is a talented pass rusher, but the Redskins don’t have much else on the edge, so they could use an early draft pick to satisfy the position. In fact, they should consider adding two edge players because their pass rush was so weak last year. Signed Odafe Oweh, K’Lavon Chaisson, and Charles Omenihu
- Cornerback: Marshon Lattimore will be back from injury in 2026, but the Redskins struggled at the position otherwise. Signed Amik Robertson
- Safety: The Redskins had one of the weaker safety groups in the NFL last year. The secondary as a whole was an abomination.
- Guard: Right guard is the weak spot on the offensive line. Nick Allegretti has been a big disappointment.
- Defensive Tackle: DaRon Payne can only do so much, given that there’s barely any talent around him. Major help is needed at defensive tackle.
- Linebacker: Bobby Wagner is entering free agency, but he’s an older player who needed to be upgraded anyway. Signed Leo Chenal
- Wide Receiver: The Redskins traded for Deebo Samuel last offseason, and while he played well at times, he wasn’t the difference-maker Washington thought it was getting. Samuel is now set to enter free agency.
- Running Back: Jacory Croskey-Merritt was a fun story for a while, but Daniels needs a serious backfield complement to take some of the pressure off of him. Signed Rachaad White
- Tight End: Zach Ertz suffered a terrible injury and is set to be a free agent anyway.
- Backup Quarterback: Daniels is currently the only quarterback under contract heading into 2026. Re-signed Marcus Mariota
- Punter: Tress Way is heading into free agency.

A Grade
Walt’s Grade Summary
Washington didn’t have much to work with, but it made the most of what it had. Of the four picks the Redskins had in the top 200, all of them scored in the “A” range. They drafted incredibly well, selecting either mega talents or great bargains.
The Redskins planned on taking Carnell Tate, but because he was off the board, that allowed Washington to obtain the better player, as Sonny Styles figures to provide a much-needed colossal upgrade in the middle of the defense. Then, in the third round, Antonio Williams was obtained to provide Jayden Daniels with the upgrade he likely thought he was getting at No. 7.
Washington continued to draft strongly after that, securing a third-round prospect in Joshua Josephs in Round 5, and a fourth-round prospect in Kaytron Allen in the sixth frame. Allen and sixth-round center Matt Gulbin will give Daniels more of a supporting system, while Josephs could bolster a weak pass rush. All of these elements were able to add up to a stellar draft class for Washington.

Pick 7
A
Sonny Styles, LB, Ohio State

Scouting Report
Sonny Styles doesn’t provide positional value, but that’s out the window in this lackluster draft class. The Redskins are getting the best player on the board who fills a huge need for them. They should be able to cover the middle of the field for once, and Styles will be very useful against the Eagles’ offense.
Pick 71
A-
Antonio Williams, WR, Clemson
WR
Clemson
Rnk: 76
Scouting Report
I’ve had Antonio Williams in the second round in a bunch of my mock draft updates, so I obviously like that the Redskins were able to obtain him at this spot. Williams has play-making ability and runs good routes, so he should be able to develop into a solid No. 2 wideout for Washington.
Pick 147
A
Joshua Josephs, DE, Tennessee
DE
Tennessee
Rnk: 105
Joshua Josephs has the potential to be a designated pass rusher in the pros. I had him going at the end of the third round. Washington signed multiple defensive ends this free agency, but two of them were for one year, so Josephs will be a replacement in 2027.
Pick 187
A
Kaytron Allen, RB, Penn State
RB
Penn State
Rnk: 136
Kaytron Allen is a physical runner who generates yards after contact. The Redskins don’t have much going on at running back, so Allen could see a decent number of carries as a rookie. Allen easily could have gone four rounds earlier.
Pick 209
B
Matt Gulbin, C, Michigan
C
Michigan
Rnk: 0
Matt Gublin was a great blocker in school, but didn’t measure well athletically. He should be a fine backup in the NFL, and I thought he would go in this range, so this pick is fine.
Pick 223
B-
Athan Kaliakmanis, QB, Rutgers
QB
Rutgers
Rnk: 462
Athan Kaliakmanis over Garrett Nussmeier is wild. Kaliakmanis has plus intermediate accuracy and a quick release. He had a lot of buzz heading into the draft. He could be a developmental backup.
