The Ravens are coming off a disappointing year, but they had an insane number of injuries, including one to Lamar Jackson, who got hurt in Week 4 and never truly recovered. With everyone healthy, the Ravens will continue to be one of the best teams in the NFL, especially with Trey Hendrickson enhancing the pass rush and Vega Ioane bolstering the interior of the offensive line. A new head coach could breathe new life into the team as well. Also, keep in mind that the Ravens have a very easy schedule.

Walt’s Team Needs Assessment
Needs
The Ravens struggled early in the year with countless injuries, but were one of the hottest teams in the NFL in the middle of the season. They had a chance to reach the playoffs with a win over the Steelers, but a missed field goal ended their season.
- Two Edge Rushers: The Ravens ranked 20th in quarterback pressures last year. Two new edge rushers are needed. Signed Trey Hendrickson
- Two Guards: The Ravens are strong at tackle and center, but they had weak guards last year. Daniel Faalele, the better of the two guards, is entering free agency. Signed John Simpson
- Wide Receiver: Will the Ravens finally obtain a viable receiver outside of Zay Flowers? DeAndre Hopkins did not count.
- Running Back: Baltimore felt as though it couldn’t use Derrick Henry late in games. Henry was still effective, but just turned 32. A running back of the future will be needed at some point.
- Cornerback: The Ravens could lose Chidobe Awuzie, so he’ll need to be re-signed or replaced. Re-signed Chidobe Awuzie
- Tight End: Mark Andrews is getting up there in age, while Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar are both heading into free agency.
- Punter: Jordan Stout was the league’s best punter last year, but he’s an impending free agent.

Walt’s Grade Summary
The Ravens are known as a team that always seems to land great values throughout the draft. This year was no exception, as Baltimore somehow snagged Zion Young off the board at No. 45 even though he was seen as someone who could easily be chosen in the 20s. This was after the Ravens took care of the other side of the line of scrimmage by obtaining the best guard in the class at No. 14. Vega Ioane is a better prospect than Tyler Booker, who went 12th last year. He’ll provide a huge boost for Lamar Jackson.
Three of Baltimore’s next five picks scored a B+ grade or better. This includes fourth-round receiver Elijah Sarratt, who was projected by some to be chosen in the second round. He was a better value than Ja’Kobi Lane in the third, which was a rare mishap for Baltimore’s front office.
The Ravens had a strong third day. Following the Sarratt pick, they landed some quality values in Chandler Rivers and Josh Cuevas, who could remind some of Mark Andrews. Rayshaun Benny was then a steal at No. 250.
I can’t see why the Ravens shouldn’t be graded highly. They messed up a couple of times, but this was yet another draft full of great values for them.

The Ravens, as usual, were able to get a great value. Vega Ioane may not be considered as such because he was projected to go in this area, but only because of his position. This is a poor draft class, so you can throw positional value out the window. There’s a good chance Ioane will be considered a top-five player from this class, and he’ll provide the Ravens with a big upgrade at guard. Baltimore, unlike Los Angeles, understood that it needed to use this pick to help it win a Super Bowl.

Here’s the player the Lions should have drafted. The Ravens, instead, land yet another steal, which is what they do every single year because other teams don’t know how to draft. Young is extremely talented and easily could have gone in the first round. He has character concerns, but nothing nearly as egregious as Makai Lemon.

I had Ja’Kobi Lane going in the middle of Day 3, so this is an unusual reach for the Ravens. They’re addressing a big need, however, as the Ravens have needed help at receiver outside of Zay Flowers for a while. Lane could be a big end zone threat in the NFL.

Matt Hibner is a quality receiving threat with the potential to be a very good blocker. The Ravens needed another tight end after losing two this offseason, and I thought he could go around this range, though I’m not a fan of his age (24).

Chandler Rivers is an instinctive and tough corneback, but is short. He can play in the slot and perhaps eventually be an upgrade for the Ravens, who needed to address their secondary. I had Rivers going a bit earlier than this.

Josh Cuevas flashed some ability as a receiver, though he wasn’t overly productive at Alabama. With two tight ends departing this offseason, the Ravens needed to address this area on multiple occasions. I had Cuevas going to the Ravens at No. 154, so I have to like this pick.
