Rank: 8

The Eagles appear to be a declining team, but perhaps their offensive line will perform on a higher level with a new offensive line coach. We know the defense will still be great, but the offense is a question mark with the blocking and A.J. Brown’s impending departure.

Walt’s Team Needs Assessment
Needs
The Eagles weren’t as dominant in 2025 as they were during their Super Bowl season. They still were able to win the division and claim the No. 3 seed, however, so they don’t have too many needs aside from replacing impending free agents.
- Cornerback: This is the biggest need on defense. The Eagles have two great cornerbacks in Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, but a better option is needed across from the former. Signed Tariq Woolen and Jonathan Jones
- Right Tackle: Lane Johnson endured an injury-ravaged season. Johnson is still an excellent player at 36, but the Eagles need to find a viable backup and future replacement.
- Center: Cam Jurgens hasn’t been nearly as great as Jason Kelce, so the Eagles should consider an upgrade.
- Guard: Landon Dickerson couldn’t stay healthy last year. Philadelphia should consider a better backup or perhaps some competition at the position.
- Defensive End: Jaelan Phillips, Azeez Ojulari, and Josh Uche are all set to enter free agency, so replacements will need to be obtained.
- Safety: Reed Blankenship is coming off a down year, but is expected to bounce back in 2026. He could be doing so on a different team, however, because he’s an impending free agent.
- Linebacker: Nakobe Dean figures to be better in 2026 when he’ll be further removed from injury, but his contract is set to expire. He’ll have to be replaced if he leaves.
- Tight End: Dallas Goedert has been a mainstay in Philadelphia’s offense for some time, but he’s about to enter free agency. Re-signed Dallas Goedert; signed Johnny Mundt
- Wide Receiver: Philadelphia’s depth behind the top two receivers has been lackluster for some time. Jahan Dotson was acquired to fix this, but he’s been a disappointment. Signed Marquise Brown and Elijah Moore
- Punter: Braden Mann will be a free agent in March. Re-signed Braden Mann

Draft Review

C Grade
Walt’s Grade Summary
Philadelphia drafted some talented players, but they may not all pan out like the team hopes. The primary example of this is Makai Lemon. If Lemon didn’t have character concerns, he may have flirted with the top 10, but he had the worst combine interviews imaginable. If he behaves that way in the locker room, he’s not going to be on an NFL roster for very long, no matter how good he is. There is precedent for this with Antonio Brown in his Raider and Buccaneer days, and I’d say Lemon would actually be worse for the locker room than Brown was if his behavior persists.
Another example is Micah Morris. This is less serious because Morris was just a sixth-round pick, but he’s another talented player who has issues. His problems are a lack of work ethic and poor conditioning. He could bust because of those reasons. Meanwhile, the Eagles wasted a fifth-round pick on Cole Payton, who doesn’t have much starting experience and can’t read defenses.
It all sounds negative for the Eagles, but they made some positive draft picks as well. Eli Stowers figures to be a great threat over the middle of the field, while Markell Bell is talented enough to potentially replace Lane Johnson down the road despite being a third-round pick. He’s raw, but can be developed. And speaking of raw, seventh-round defensive tackle Uar Bernard ran a 4.63 at 306 pounds. I’m sure he’ll remind Philadelphia fans of a defensive version of Jordan Mailata.
Despite some positives, I can’t say I’m a fan of the Eagles’ draft. There’s high upside to it, but there’s a very low floor with the Lemon, Morris, and Payton picks.

Scouting Report
There are two sides to this pick. On one hand, the Eagles were able to land a dynamic weapon to help them deal with A.J. Brown’s departure. Lemon was good enough to go No. 13, so this value is great. On the other hand, Lemon had some seriously terrible and weird interviews at the combine. I don’t know if he’ll be welcome on an NFL team for the long term, so the Eagles may not even know how he conducted himself. This pick has great upside, but Lemon may not be around very long if he continues this behavior.
Pick 54
A
Eli Stowers, TE, Vanderbilt
TE
Vanderbilt
Rnk: 108
Dallas Goedert doesn’t have much time remaining in Philadelphia, so with A.J. Brown leaving, and Makai Lemon escorting himself out of the pros very soon, the Eagles needed pass-catchers to complement DeVonta Smith in the future. Eli Stowers is incredibly athletic and could have easily been chosen 10 or so picks earlier than this.
Pick 68
B+
Markel Bell, OT, Miami
OT
Miami
Rnk: 455
The Eagles needed a tackle to succeed Lane Johnson. Markell Bell is a bit raw, but he’s made big strides every year at Miami, so he may continue to improve a lot and become a quality right tackle in the pros. This is a solid pick for the Eagles, who traded for Jonathan Greenard. I’ll have that grade posted once the third round concludes.
Pick 178
C-
Cole Payton, QB, North Dakota State
QB
North Dakota State
Rnk: 192
Cole Payton needs work reading the field and developing a pocket presence, but he’s athletic and accurate. I can’t say I’m a fan of this pick, as there were better quarterbacks available.
Pick 207
C+
Micah Morris, G, Georgia
G
Georgia
Rnk: 131
Micah Morris has good strength, quickness, and athleticism, but his work ethic and conditioning are poor. The Eagles have taken some major character concerns in this draft, so we’ll have to see if it works out for them.
Pick 244
B
Cole Wisniewski, S, Texas Tech
S
Texas Tech
Rnk: 0
Cole Wisniewski is an instinctive safety, but needs to bulk up. He could be a fine backup and special teamer. I had him going 15 selections earlier, so the value is fine.
Pick 251
A-
Uar Bernard, DT, Nigeria
DT
Nigeria
Rnk: 0
That’s right. Nigeria. Uar Bernard is one of the best pure athletes in this class. He’s 306 pounds, yet runs a 4.63. It’s unreal. He’s super raw, but could be developed into something special.
Pick 252
B+
Keyshan James-Newby, DE, New Mexico
DE
New Mexico
Rnk: 514
Keyshawn James-Newby is undersized, but he’s explosive and has a high motor. I had him going in the sixth round, so the Eagles are getting good value with him, although he’s not nearly as exciting as the Nigerian prospect.
