Rank: 27 Previously: 21
It’s unclear which quarterback the Falcons will use this year, but Kevin Stefanski’s presence should help matters. However, that is far from Atlanta’s only concern. Kaleb McGary retired, while the defensive line is lacking in talent. The Falcons are 120/1 to win the Super Bowl at one sportsbook, and I don’t have any interest.

Walt’s Team Needs Assessment

Needs
The Falcons had the best roster in the NFC South, but they failed to win the division because of coaching incompetence. A new coaching staff might be able to get this team over the hump.
  • Wide Receiver: Drake London is a great receiver, but he’s all the Falcons have at the position. There’s also Darnell Mooney, but he’s just a tertiary option at best. Signed Jahan Dotson
  • Cornerback: The Falcons have a great front seven, but they need help in the secondary, specifically across from A.J. Terrell.
  • Defensive Tackle: David Onyemata just had a great season, but his contract will be expiring in March, so he’ll need to be re-signed or replaced.
  • Linebacker: Kaden Elliss is another important front-seven player the Falcons may lose in free agency.
  • Tight End: Kyle Pitts never lived up to his No. 4 overall potential, but he was still very productive at times. He’s now due to enter free agency. Franchised Kyle Pitts; signed Austin Hooper
  • Backup Running Back: Tyler Allgeier has been a great complement to Bijan Robinson, but he’s set to enter free agency. Signed Brian Robinson
  • Punter: Bradley Pinion is an impending free agent as well.

Walt’s 2026 NFL Draft – Overall Team Grade and Selection Grades

Draft Review
Walt’s Draft Grade: B Grade
Walt’s Grade Summary
Though the Falcons didn’t have a first-round pick, they certainly had an interesting draft. This is primarily because of their second-round pick, Avieon Terell. The Clemson product was the team’s initial selection, which was a special one because his big brother, A.J., is a great player for the Falcons. It’s possible that both Terrells will be starting in the same secondary.

Another thing that stands out about Atlanta’s draft is the Zachariah Branch pick. Branch is an explosive receiver who was tabbed as a second-round prospect until he was arrested a couple of weeks prior to the draft. It was unclear how far he would fall, but the Falcons took him in the third frame. He could be a great value for Atlanta if he stays out of trouble.

Of the Falcons’ six picks, only one scored worse than a B-, which was the C- given to Kendal Daniels, a linebacker-safety tweener. The best value was Harold Perkins, a fourth-round prospect who fell to No. 215.

The Falcons had their ups and downs, and it was all interesting. Despite not having a first-round choice, Atlanta made some improvements to its roster.

Draft Picks / Prospect Links
Pick 48
A+
Avieon Terrell, CB, Clemson
Avieon Terrell, CB, Clemson
CB Clemson
The Falcons had some inside info on Avieon Terrell, given that his older brother plays the same position for the team. Avieon isn’t as talented as A.J., but Avieon is a smart and instinctive cornerback who easily could have gone at the end of the first round. Terrell is dinged for being small, but he plays bigger than his size.
Pick 79
B-
Zachariah Branch, WR, Georgia
Zachariah Branch, WR, Georgia
WR Georgia
I had Zachariah Branch one spot earlier in my mock draft, but I had him slotted in the second round a few weeks ago – before he was arrested. If the Falcons can keep him out of trouble, this should be a success. Branch is small, but he’s also a very explosive player who can go the distance whenever he touches the ball. The Falcons needed someone like that in their offense.
Pick 134
C-
Kendal Daniels, S, Oklahoma State
S Oklahoma State
Rnk: 284
Kendal Daniels might be considered a linebacker-safety tweener. I had him going with the penultimate pick in the draft. There’s not much value here.
Pick 208
B
Anterio Thompson, DT, Washington
DT Washington
Rnk: 488
Anterio Thompson had great workouts prior to the draft, which helped his draft stock. I had him slotted in the seventh round, so this is close enough for the Falcons, who needed to bolster the interior of their defensive line.
Pick 215
A
Harold Perkins, OLB, LSU
Harold Perkins, OLB, LSU
OLB LSU
Harold Perkins is an explosive player with tremendous instincts. I had Perkins in the fourth round, so this is another steal. With James Pearce getting into trouble, the Falcons had to add another edge rusher.
Pick 231
B
Ethan Onianwa, OT, Ohio State
OT Ohio State
Rnk: 98
Ethan Onianwa is a huge tackle who may have to move inside. The Falcons have known issues on their offensive line, so this pick makes sense. I had Onianwa going 10 slots later.
