2018 Fantasy Football Rankings - Wide Receivers (Sept. 5):
Top 10 | 11-20 | 21-40 | 41-60 | 61-100

  1. Courtland Sutton, WR, Broncos. Bye: 10.
AUG. 4 UPDATE: Kerryon Johnson has been praised for his pass protection, which is important for his rookie-year usage. Also, Jeff Risdon, who covers the Lions, called Johnson “legit.” The rookie runner’s stock is definitely pointing up.

AUG. 2 UPDATE: Courtland Sutton has been tearing up training camp, according to reports. The second-round rookie was discussed as a potential top-15 pick before falling in the draft, so this is hardly a surprise. I wouldn’t draft Sutton just yet, but I’ll list him in the Fantasy Football Sleepers page if he continues to thrive. With Demaryius Thomas slowing down, Sutton could be in for a strong rookie campaign.

Courtland Sutton won’t have an impact this year unless either Demaryius Thomas or Emmanuel Sanders goes down with an injury, which doesn’t sound implausible. Even then, he’s just a second-round rookie, so there’s no reason to draft him in standard leagues.

Projected 2018 Fantasy Stats: 58 catches. 830 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2018 Fantasy Points: 133.
Projected 2018 PPR Fantasy Points: 191.

  2. Golden Tate, WR, Lions. Bye: 6.
Golden Tate just eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards for the third time in four years. He hasn’t caught fewer than 90 passes in that span. There’s some concern with age now – he turns 30 this offseason – but he should continue to be productive as long as Matthew Stafford is healthy.

Projected 2018 Fantasy Stats: 90 catches. 1,020 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2018 Fantasy Points: 132.
Projected 2018 PPR Fantasy Points: 222.

  3. Cameron Meredith, WR, Saints. Bye: 6.
AUG. 16 UPDATE: There was some cause for concern about Cameron Meredith’s health yesterday after missing several practices, but he returned to practice Wednesday, so he should be fine as a mid-round sleeper.

AUG. 15 UPDATE: Cameron Meredith has missed several practices with an undisclosed injury. It’s unclear what this is, but it’s reportedly not related to his surgically repaired knee. I wouldn’t drop Meredith just yet, but this is a situation worth monitoring.

JULY 27 UPDATE: Cameron Meredith has managed to avoid the active/PUP list, which is amazing. The Bears got rid of Meredith because they weren’t optimistic about his health, but this turned out to be a big mistake. Meredith seems like a strong option this year, as he’ll have a huge upgrade at quarterback.

MAY 25 UPDATE: Sean Payton said that Cameron Meredith is ahead of schedule with his knee injury. This is good news, as Meredith has great potential catching passes from Drew Brees in New Orleans’ offense.

Cameron Meredith suffered a brutal injury in the third preseason game in 2017, which was a shame because a lot was expected from him. It’s unclear if Meredith will be the same player this upcoming season, though he got hurt early enough that he has a chance to be productive by the opener. If so, I love Meredith’s upside in the Saints’ offense. He’s someone I’ll closely be monitoring in training camp and the preseason.

Projected 2018 Fantasy Stats: 66 catches. 900 yards. 7 total TDs.
    Projected 2018 Fantasy Points: 132.
Projected 2018 PPR Fantasy Points: 198.

  4. Sterling Shepard, WR, Giants. Bye: 8.
AUG. 25 UPDATE: Sterling Shepard was the star for the Giants in their third preseason game. He saw eight targets, snaring seven of them for 78 yards. His best play was a great catch on a 30-yard fade pass with Buster Skrine draped all over him. It’s important to remember that Odell Beckham Jr. was out, but it’s not like Shepard is going to see less playing time once Beckham returns. Kenny from our podcast is a big fan of Shepard this year, and I’m beginning to agree with him.

Sterling Shepard stepped up in the wake of the injuries to Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall, catching 59 passes for 731 yards and two touchdowns in 11 games. Shepard is ready to take the next leap, and he should be able to with Eli Manning playing behind an improved offensive line.

Projected 2018 Fantasy Stats: 78 catches. 970 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2018 Fantasy Points: 131.
Projected 2018 PPR Fantasy Points: 209.

  5. Chris Godwin, WR, Buccaneers. Bye: 5.

AUG. 7 UPDATE: The Buccaneers are planning to start Chris Godwin across from Mike Evans this season, with DeSean Jackson in the slot. I’m down on the Buccaneers this year, but Godwin could have a solid season with increased usage.

JUNE 14 UPDATE: Chris Godwin has been one of the standouts for the Buccaneers this spring, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. Godwin is a nice sleeper in the late rounds, as he could take targets away from the woefully inefficient DeSean Jackson. Godwin, a third-round pick from 2017, caught seven passes for 111 yards and a touchdown in the 2017 finale.

Chris Godwin had a big performance in the regular-season finale, catching seven passes for 111 yards and a touchdown. Godwin is very talented and has great upside, but he’s stuck behind Mike Evans and DeSean Jackson. It would probably be best if Godwin replaced the disappointing Jackson. Perhaps that’ll happen at some point in 2018. Godwin has some sleeper potential.

Projected 2018 Fantasy Stats: 66 catches. 860 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2018 Fantasy Points: 130.
Projected 2018 PPR Fantasy Points: 196.

  6. Calvin Ridley, WR, Falcons. Bye: 8.
AUG. 26 UPDATE: Calvin Ridley had a rough dress rehearsal. He had a chance to step up with Julio Jones out, but he struggled instead. He saw just one target from Matt Ryan, and he dropped the slant pass. He later dropped a pass from Matt Schaub. The ball took an odd bounce, seemingly off the foot of a Jaguar defender, and then it popped into the arms of another Jacksonville player for an interception. However, replay review ruled it incomplete.

AUG. 18 UPDATE: With Julio Jones out, Calvin Ridley was the star player in Atlanta’s receiving corps in the second preseason game. He really took advantage of the opportunity. He began the night with a nice kickoff return to the 35-yard line. Matt Ryan then targeted him right away, then connected with his rookie wideout again for 36 yards, as Ridley beat David Amerson. Ridley later caught a touchdown while falling to the ground. He finished his night with three grabs for 49 yards and the score.

JULY 30 UPDATE: I expressed a bit of concern about Calvin Ridley’s hamstring yesterday, but he has returned to practice. Head coach Dan Quinn said Ridley left Saturday’s practice as just a precaution.

JULY 29 UPDATE: Calvin Ridley hurt his hamstring in practice Saturday. This may not be a big deal if it’s minor, but soft-tissue injuries can linger. I wouldn’t downgrade Ridley just yet, but the situation must be monitored.

Calvin Ridley is a precise route-runner who should be able to integrate into an NFL offense quite easily, thanks to the superior coaching he received at Alabama. I don’t think I’d draft Ridley before the late rounds, but I could see him ascending into WR2 status if Julio Jones were to suffer an injury.

Projected 2018 Fantasy Stats: 62 catches. 860 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2018 Fantasy Points: 130.
Projected 2018 PPR Fantasy Points: 192.

  7. Taywan Talor, WR, Titans. Bye: 8.
AUG. 24 UPDATE: Rishard Matthews will continue to miss time with a torn meniscus. Matthews could come off the PUP list next week, but he’s missed way too much time for my liking. There’s a good chance he’ll frequently be banged up throughout the season.

Taywan Taylor, a 2017 third-round pick, generated a loud buzz for what he was able to accomplish against the Buccaneers. Taylor caught a pass at the line of scrimmage and then blew by Tampa’s entire defense for a 47-yard touchdown. He made some other grabs from Blaine Gabbert to finish with four receptions for 95 yards and the touchdown. I ordinarily would be skeptical of Taylor in Tennessee’s run-heavy offense, but considering that Rishard Matthews has yet to practice this summer, Taylor will have more of an opportunity to receive substantial targets.

Projected 2018 Fantasy Stats: 65 catches. 900 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2018 Fantasy Points: 130.
Projected 2018 PPR Fantasy Points: 295.

  8. Jamison Crowder, WR, Redskins. Bye: 4.
AUG. 1 UPDATE: Alex Smith has developed a strong rapport throwing to Jamison Crowder, according to Redskins.com. I liked Crowder a lot heading into last year as a sleeper, but his 2017 campaign was derailed by hip and hamstring injuries. He could be a solid WR3 in PPR formats if he stays healthy.

I liked Jamison Crowder going into 2017, but he struggled in the first seven weeks of the season. He caught fire after that, so that gives him some promise heading into 2018. It remains to be seen if Alex Smith will utilize Crowder like Kirk Cousins used to.

Projected 2018 Fantasy Stats: 79 catches. 950 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2018 Fantasy Points: 130.
Projected 2018 PPR Fantasy Points: 209.

  9. James Washington, WR, Steelers. Bye: 7.
James Washington has been outstanding this preseason. He’ll play the Martavis Bryant role in Pittsburgh’s offense, except he won’t be a screw-up like Bryant was. Washington could have a huge year if Antonio Brown or JuJu Smith-Schuster were to get hurt.

Projected 2018 Fantasy Stats: 55 catches. 800 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2018 Fantasy Points: 130.
Projected 2018 PPR Fantasy Points: 185.

  10. Sammy Watkins, WR, Chiefs. Bye: 12.
AUG. 18 UPDATE: Sammy Watkins struggled in Kansas City’s second preseason game. Watkins saw three targets, but couldn’t come up with a single catch. He was targeted on Mahomes’ interception, and he didn’t fight for the ball to potentially break up the play. Watkins then dropped a pass that was thrown a bit behind him. Watkins was a big disappointment with the Rams, and he’s not off to a good start in Kansas City.

JUNE 15 UPDATE: The connection between Patrick Mahomes and Sammy Watkins is “real,” according to Chiefs.com’s B.J. Kissel. Watkins struggled last year because he didn’t gel with Jared Goff, but it sounds like he could have a strong bounce-back campaign.

Sammy Watkins inexplicably struggled to post relevant stats this past season despite his teammates, Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp, thrived despite having no history of posting great numbers. This could make Watkins a buy-low candidate for 2018. There’s definitely some risk that he’ll do nothing again, but he should have better chemistry with Patrick Mahomes, if only by default. Watkins could be obtained relatively late in your draft.

Projected 2018 Fantasy Stats: 60 catches. 870 yards. 7 total TDs.
    Projected 2018 Fantasy Points: 129.
Projected 2018 PPR Fantasy Points: 189.

  11. Christian Kirk, WR, Cardinals. Bye: 9.
AUG. 19 UPDATE: Christian Kirk received praise from head coach Steve Wilks following his strong showing in Week 2 of the preseason. Wilks told the media that Kirk has created some separation for the No. 2 wideout role. This is great news, obviously, especially after Kirk struggled earlier in the summer with drops.

AUG. 18 UPDATE: Second-round rookie receiver Christian Kirk led the Cardinals in receiving with four catches for 49 yards and a touchdown. This includes an impressive reception on a crossing route thrown behind him, as well as a 21-yard grab down the seam. Kirk had a middling summer, but showed tremendous rapport with Josh Rosen. I don’t think I’d draft him in standard leagues just yet, but Kirk is definitely way more on my radar after this showing.

JULY 20 UPDATE: Top team reporter Mike Jurecki didn’t include Christian Kirk as the top four receivers on Arizona’s roster, listing Chad Williams, Brice Butler and J.J. Nelson behind Larry Fitzgerald. Jurecki noted that Kirk could be returning kicks. This is disappointing news, as Kirk seemed to have a chance to make big leaps in a weak area on the depth chart. He’s not draftable in re-draft leagues.

Christian Kirk was once viewed as a first-round prospect, but he fell to the middle of the second frame. He should do well in the long term, but he might have a rookie quarterback throwing to him for most of 2018, making him pretty undesirable in standard formats.

Projected 2018 Fantasy Stats: 58 catches. 840 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2018 Fantasy Points: 129.
Projected 2018 PPR Fantasy Points: 187.

  12. Ryan Grant, WR, Colts. Bye: 9.
AUG. 21 UPDATE: I’ve listed Ryan Grant on my Fantasy Football Sleepers page, but I’m starting to re-think my stance on him. Andrew Luck doesn’t appear to be 100 percent, while Grant is proving to be an inefficent receiver. Grant saw two targets versus Baltimore, yet failed to secure either, dropping a ball in the process.

AUG. 8 UPDATE: Head coach Frank Reich said that Ryan Grant has distanced himself from the other Indianapolis receivers not named T.Y. Hilton. Grant, who initially received a big offer from the Ravens in free agency, has fantasy appeal with Andrew Luck looking healthy.

Ryan Grant signed a big contract with the Ravens, only to see it torn to shreds when he failed a mysterious physical. The Colts signed him cheaply, and he has a chance to be very productive if Andrew Luck is healthy.

Projected 2018 Fantasy Stats: 70 catches. 920 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2018 Fantasy Points: 128.
Projected 2018 PPR Fantasy Points: 198.

  13. Devin Funchess, WR, Panthers. Bye: 4.
Devin Funchess became Carolina’s No. 1 wideout when the front office traded Kelvin Benjamin to the Bills. Funchess had some strong performances in the wake of the deal – five catches, 92 yards, two touchdowns versus Miami in Week 10 – but he faded down the stretch because of a nagging injury. Funchess should be better in 2018 as long as he can stay healthy.

Projected 2018 Fantasy Stats: 68 catches. 910 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2018 Fantasy Points: 127.
Projected 2018 PPR Fantasy Points: 195.

  14. Tre’Quan Smith, WR, Saints. Bye: 6.
AUG. 31 UPDATE: Third-round rookie receiver Tre’Quan Smith made some nice plays in the preseason finale, catching four passes for 42 yards. Smith made a great reception on third down, and he otherwise did a good job of faking a pick to help Cameron Meredith get open for a touchdown. Smith could be a solid final-round fantasy pick, as he may emerge as a potent offensive threat during the second half of the season. The Saints draft well, and Smith seems like the latest gem.

No Saints receiver should ever be counted out, and third-rounder Tre’Quan Smith could become the No. 2 wideout this year, depending on what happens with Cameron Meredith’s health situation. Still, given that the Saints are more run-oriented, Smith is better left undrafted, barring some impressinve showings in the preseason.

Projected 2018 Fantasy Stats: 55 catches. 770 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2018 Fantasy Points: 127.
Projected 2018 PPR Fantasy Points: 182.

  15. Nelson Agholor, WR, Eagles. Bye: 9.
Nelson Agholor finally lived up to his first-round billing last year, though Carson Wentz’s incredible play certainly helped matters. As long as Wentz is healthy, Agholor will post WR3-caliber numbers, though keep in mind he’ll be inconsistent because Wentz tends to spread the ball around.

Projected 2018 Fantasy Stats: 68 catches. 830 yards. 7 total TDs.
    Projected 2018 Fantasy Points: 125.
Projected 2018 PPR Fantasy Points: 193.

  16. D.J. Moore, WR, Panthers. Bye: 4.
AUG. 31 UPDATE: It appears as though D.J. Moore’s punishment for driving 113 mph continues. He played into the second quarter of the preseason finale, failing to catch his only target. I’m not as high on Moore anymore, though I still think he’s worth a late-round pick.

AUG. 25 UPDATE: D.J. Moore had a disappointing preseason dress rehearsal. He saw one target from Cam Newton, but couldn’t catch it because he stumbled. I don’t have snap count for you, but I didn’t see Moore very often, as Torrey Smith and Curtis Samuel played ahead of him. Moore had a great training camp, so I wonder if Ron Rivera sidelined Moore because he was clocked for going 113 mph in a 65-mph zone a few days ago. I still think Moore will be very good, but he could begin the year slowly because of his off-the-field incident.

AUG. 10 UPDATE: First-round rookie receiver D.J. Moore played the entire game in his preseason debut. He saw targets from both Cam Newton and the third-string quarterback. Newton threw a pass his way on the opening drive, but Shaq Lawson batted the ball down. Moore then caught an 8-yard pass from Newton, but that was negated by a Devin Funchess hold. Moore made up for it by dodging defenders on a 32-yard gain in the fourth quarter. Moore finished with four catches for 75 yards.

JULY 17 UPDATE: D.J. Moore “looked more than ready to contribute” this offseason, according to Panthers.com’s Max Henson. This is yet another glowing report about Moore, who seems like a steal at his 10.12 ADP. JUNE 19 UPDATE: D.J. Moore has “looked the part” this offseason, according to Albert Breer. Moore drew praise in a stock report last week, so this is another positive development. Moore, presumably Carolina’s new No. 1 receiver was the 24th-overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. However, as I pointed out during our draft coverage, one team was set to take Moore in the teens, but didn’t because an unexpected player fell to them.

JUNE 16 UPDATE: D.J. Moore has been “smooth” at minicamp, according to the Panthers’ official Web site. Take this source with a grain of salt, but good news is better than bad news, and Moore could end up being Carolina’s No. 1 receiver this season.

The Panthers lacked a No. 1 receiver heading into the 2018 NFL Draft, but now they have one. Moore, taken 24th overall, was getting consideration from two teams picking in the teens, so teams obviously liked his talent. I’m sure Cam Newton will as well. The Newton-to-Moore connection is one to watch in the preseason, as it may dictate how great of a fantasy option Moore is this year.

Projected 2018 Fantasy Stats: 57 catches. 770 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2018 Fantasy Points: 125.
Projected 2018 PPR Fantasy Points: 182.

  17. Kenny Golladay, WR, Lions. Bye: 6.
JUNE 7 UPDATE: Kenny Golladay has “looked like a veteran” at minicamp, according to the Lions’ official Web site. Golladay flashed as a rookie, but didn’t get much of a chance because he was behind Golden Tate, Marvin Jones and Eric Ebron in the pecking order. Ebron is gone, so Golladay’s outlook is brighter in his second season.

Kenny Golladay flashed at times as a rookie, but understandably wasn’t a consistent option, thanks in part to injuries. He caught 28 passes for 477 yards and three touchdowns despite missing five games. Golladay will be better next year, but will have to fight Golden Tate and Marvin Jones for targets. His stock will increase if one of those receivers gets hurt.

Projected 2018 Fantasy Stats: 61 catches. 830 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2018 Fantasy Points: 124.
Projected 2018 PPR Fantasy Points: 185.

  18. John Brown, WR, Ravens. Bye: 10.
AUG. 15 UPDATE: Multiple beat writers have showered praise on John Brown in the past couple of days, while Joe Flacco credited his improved downfield passing this offseason to Brown. There’s a decent chance Brown has a strong 2018 campaign, though there must be some worry about his health. He’s a solid late-round flier.

JULY 31 UPDATE: Joe Flacco has been enjoying his best training camp in an extremely long time, according to a Ravens observer. Flacco has mailed it in the past several years, but has been motivated by the drafting of Lamar Jackson. This bodes well for both John Brown and Michael Crabtree; the former had already been thriving in camp.

JULY 29 UPDATE: John Brown has really stood out in training camp thus far, according to team reporter Jeff Zrebiec. Brown, once upon a time, was a dynamic receiver for the Cardinals, but injuries have derailed his past several seasons. If Brown is healthy again, he could have a nice 2018 campaign, though he obviously comes with substantial risk.

John Brown hasn’t been able to stay healthy for the past two years because of lingering medical conditions. Bruce Arians even expressed his frustrations with Brown’s durability when he coached the team. Brown simply cannot be trusted, even in his new home. That said, he’s worth monitoring in case he’s finally fully healthy.

Projected 2018 Fantasy Stats: 55 catches. 890 total yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2018 Fantasy Points: 124.
Projected 2018 PPR Fantasy Points: 179.

  19. Julian Edelman, WR, Patriots. Bye: 11.
JULY 4 UPDATE: Julian Edelman attempted to appeal his four-game suspension, but he was denied. Edelman will, in fact, be out until Week 5. There’s a chance Edelman could be obtained for value, but his ADP right now is 7.09, which is far too early for someone who a non-elite player who will miss four contests.

JUNE 8 UPDATE: Julian Edelman is facing a four-game suspension for violating the PED policy. Edelman is appealing. Luckily, this process is occurring well before most fantasy drafts are taking place, so we’ll know if he’s suspended or not in the near future.

Julian Edelman missed all of 2017 with a torn ACL. The good news is that he suffered the injury in August, so he’ll be 100 percent or close to it by the season opener. Edelman will continue to be a force in PPR leagues, though age (32 in May) is beginning to become a concern.

Projected 2018 Fantasy Stats: 67 catches. 740 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2018 Fantasy Points: 123.
Projected 2018 PPR Fantasy Points: 190.
