2018 Fantasy Football PPR Mock Draft

Aug. 9, 2018.

This is a 2018 Fantasy Football PPR Mock Draft I took part in with 11 friends on Facebook and followers on Twitter (@walterfootball. As usual, I’ll have analysis of my picks, as well as the best and worst selections every two rounds.

Just a heads up that we have 2018 Fantasy Football Mock Drafts every Wednesday afternoon or evening. Check out the forum or follow me on Twitter to find out when the next mock draft will be.

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 1-2: This was a tough call. I wanted to go receiver-receiver, but I didn’t expect Leonard Fournette to drop to me. Wideouts dry up by the end of Round 3, so I risked being very thin at the position. However, Fournette was too good to pass up, and I wanted to stay true to my cheat sheet.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 1-2: Michael Thomas was the other receiver I was considering to go along with Keenan Allen, so that was my favorite pick from these two rounds. Joe Mixon also went slightly later than expected.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 1-2: Maybe this is a cop out, but I can’t say I hate any pick in these two rounds. Maybe Julio Jones and Rob Gronkowski went three picks earlier than they should have, but that’s not a big deal at all.

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 3-4: Phew. Jarvis Landry was the last of the receivers I was willing to take at the Round 3-4 turn. I was hoping he would fall to me, so I was fortunate. Taking Leonard Fournette paid off. However, if Landry weren’t available, I would’ve been forced into going double running back, making my receiving corps extremely thin. I wish I could have taken both Landry and someone like JuJu Smith-Schuster, but I had to settle for Kenyan Drake instead.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 3-4: Smith-Schuster is my favorite pick, as I really wanted him at 3.12. Larry Fitzgerald, Tyreek Hill and Amari Cooper are other wideouts I was going to consider with my choices.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 3-4: I think the fourth round is too early to take quarterbacks in fantasy this year, especially in PPR leagues. I’d also say Travis Kelce was a major reach. I like Kelce, but running back and receiver are too thin for that sort of pick.

Also, Josh Gordon is very questionable in the fourth round. There’s no guarantee Gordon will be available for most of the year, given his extensive off-the-field problems.

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 5-6: Once again, there was only one receiver remaining on the board whom I would’ve taken at the turn, and that was Will Fuller. I’ve said it countless times this summer, but make sure you draft receivers early because there really aren’t many viable ones worth taking.

As for Tarik Cohen, I’m expecting big things from him in Matt Nagy’s offense. Cohen seems like a great flex option in PPR formats.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 5-6: Blash had a killer draft. He once again stole one of the players I wanted, snagging Kerryon Johnson. I was also hoping to land Marquise Goodwin, who has shown tremendous rapport with Jimmy Garoppolo.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 5-6: Don’t draft Lamar Miller. The Texans don’t believe in him, so you shouldn’t either. He’s atop my Fantasy Football Busts list.

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 7-8: It finally happened. There were no receivers worth taking at the turn. I was hoping to get one of Emmanuel Sanders or Kelvin Benjamin, but both were taken early.

That said, I’m happy with my two picks. Jamaal Williams and Sony Michel should both have solid seasons, and they seem like potential steals where I drafted them.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 7-8: Sanders and Benjamin definitely are great picks. I think I would’ve considered Kyle Rudolph as well with one of my two picks, but I still think I would’ve gone with the two running backs.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 7-8: Rashaad Penny is injured and overweight, so I’d avoid him in the seventh round. Another rookie running back, Ronald Jones, has also been a big disappointment this summer. I think I’d stay away from him all together.

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 9-10: After missing out receivers in the Round 7-8 turn, I had to take one here, and Mike Williams is someone I didn’t think would be available. Williams has great potential as the seventh-overall pick from the 2017 NFL Draft.

Matt Ryan is one of several quarterbacks I could’ve chosen. I like that he gets the crappy Buccaneer and Panther secondaries twice in 2018.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 9-10: I keep missing out on Michael Gallup even though he’s listed highly in my Fantasy Football Sleepers list. That was a good pick. I also was a big fan of Jacob’s two picks. Trey Burton has a chance to set franchise records for the Bears this year, while Corey Clement will have a big year if Jay Ajayi goes down. But unlike other handcuffs, Clement will produce even if the guy ahead of him doesn’t get hurt.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 9-10: The defense pick, by far, is the worst selection. There’s no need to take a defense this early.

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 11-12: I wanted a good backup quarterback in case Matt Ryan doesn’t progress in Steve Sarkisian’s scheme, and Patrick Mahomes is a great QB2 to own because of his upside.

Ricky Seals-Jones is a very athletic tight end. Mike Jurecki, the top team reporter in the NFL, loves Seals-Jones, so that’s all I need to hear.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 11-12: Cameron Meredith, Anthony Miller, Jordan Wilkins and Kenny Golladay are all high-upside picks I love. I’m also intrigued with John Brown, though I worry about his ability to stay healthy.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 11-12: You want high-upside players in the double-digit rounds. You also want to avoid the converse. Players like Marqise Lee and Bilal Powell offer very little potential. The defense picks were bad as well.

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 13-15: I had just four receivers, so I needed another one. Dede Westbrook appears to be Jacksonville’s best receiver, so I like him as a high-upside choice in the 13th round.

The Ravens battle the Bills, Bengals and Broncos to start the year, so I can use them until Week 4. Then there’s Clint Stister, who happens to be this week’s meme kicker.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 13-15: High-upside picks include: Chris Godwin, Geronimo Allison, Adrian Peterson, Taywan Taylor and James Washington.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 13-15: Low-upside picks include: Tyler Lockett and Rob Kelley.

‘ll be adjusting some of my Fantasy Football Rankings based on these draft results, so check them out. Also, we’ll be doing mock drafts every Wednesday afternoon or evening, so come join us!

My Fantasy Team:

QB – Matt Ryan, Falcons
RB – Leonard Fournette, Jaguars
RB – Kenyan Drake, Dolphins
WR – Keenan Allen, Chargers
WR – Jarvis Landry, Browns
RB/WR – Tarik Cohen, RB, Bears
TE – Ricky Jeals-Jones, Cardinals
K – Clint Stistser, Free Agent
DEF – Ravens Defense

BN – Will Fuller, WR, Texans
BN – Jamaal Williams, RB, Packers
BN – Sony Michel, RB, Patriots
BN – Mike Williams, WR, Chargers
BN – Patrick Mahomes, QB, Chiefs
BN – Dede Westbrook, WR, Jaguars

I think this team is fine for being in the No. 12 hole. I think my running back and receiver positions are fairly balanced. I wish I had a bit more depth at receiver, but I like my top three guys at the position. I’m weaker at quarterback and tight end than most, but not by a significant margin.
