🏈 2026 NFL Free Agent Signing Grades by Team (Synced 3.17.26)
NFL Free Agent Signing Grades: March 19 Updates
Vikings re-sign QB Carson Wentz: B+ Grade
The Vikings calling the Bengals to potentially trade for Joe Burrow made a lot of sense. Signing Kyler Murray to a 1-year contract worth the minimum was also a logical decision. This move is more surprising, as Carson Wentz is returning to join Murray and J.J. McCarthy in a weird three-man competition.
Despite this being an odd signing, I don’t hate it. Wentz is returning for just one year, so there are no long-term ramifications of this contract. Besides, the Vikings are starved for quality quarterback play, so it can’t hurt to have another veteran in the room to compete with two first-round busts.

Browns sign DE A.J. Epenesa: A Grade
I projected the Browns to select David Bailey in my 2026 NFL Mock Draft, citing Cleveland needs a bookend for Myles Garrett. Someone like Bailey would still be in play because this is just a 1-year contract, but the Browns did well to secure an insurance policy just in case Bailey is snatched off the board before their selection.
This is a great signing. Epenesa is an effective edge rusher who didn’t do all that much last year because there were plenty of talented players ahead of him. However, Epenesa wll have more of an opportunity to be on the field in Cleveland, and he’ll be trying his best to earn a larger contract next ofseason.

NFL Free Agent Signing Grades: March 18 Updates
Lions sign WR Greg Dortch: B+ Grade
Greg Dortch hasn’t been an overwhelming producer in the NFL, but he’s had some nice moments. This seems like a quality signing for the Lions, as Dortch is familiar with new offensive coordinator Drew Petzing’s scheme, having played under Petzing in Arizona. Dortch doesn’t have a clear role at the moment, but he provides some fine insurance in the slot if Amon-Ra St. Brown were to suffer an injury.

Colts sign WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine: B- Grade
The Colts managed to re-sign Alec Pierce in free agency, but were forced into trading Michael Pittman Jr. for almost nothing. With Pittman gone, the Colts needed better depth at receiver, which would explain this signing.
Nick Westbrook-Ikhine had a breakout 2024 season with nine touchdowns, but this proved to be a fluke because he barely did anything in Miami last year despite Tyreek Hill missing most of the season. Perhaps Westbrook-Ikhine can revert back to 2024 form, but I have my doubts.

Panthers sign RB A.J. Dillon (1 year): D Grade
When the Eagles signed A.J. Dillon last spring, I gave them a C- and wrote this: “The Eagles usually make great moves, but I don’t understand this one. A.J. Dillon is a former second-round pick who had some amazing games early in his career. However, he has gotten old, fat, and injured in recent years. He would make Green Bay’s offense worse whenever he was on the field. I know this is a 1-year deal for the veteran minimum, so the Eagles won’t be punished if/when Dillon doesn’t pan out, but I would have rather seen Philadelphia give this contract to someone who deserves it.”
A year later, Dillon being signed is worse because he’s older and fatter. There was no reason for the Panthers to waste any time with him.

NFL Free Agent Signing Grades: March 17 Updates
Raiders sign G Spencer Burford (1 year): B+ Grade
The Raiders had the worst offenive line one professional handicapper has ever seen. They improved the interior by signing Tyler Linderbaum, but they still had a lot of work to do to protect Fernando Mendoza. Thus, any cheap offensive line signing should be welcomed.
Spencer Burford is usually a backup, but he started nine games for the 49ers last season. He wasn’t particularly good, but it could be argued that he was still better than what the Raiders had last year. At the very least, he’ll provide needed depth.

Lions sign DE D.J. Wonnum (1 year, $6 million): A Grade
Charlie Campbell reported at the combine that the Lions were interested in Keldric Faulk at No. 17 overall. Detroit wants a bookend for Aidan Hutchinson. The team managed to acquire one, albeit for what appears to be for the short term.
D.J. Wonnum was a fantastic edge rusher for the Vikings prior to 2024. He didn’t do as much in Carolina the past two years, but dealt with injuries. At 28, he could return to full strength and be a great threat on the other side of Hutchinson. If not, then the Lions won’t stand to lose much.

Colts sign CB Cam Taylor-Britt (1 year): A Grade
The Colts have three excellent cornerbacks on their roster, but the depth behind them was lacking. That would explain why they signed Cam Taylor-Britt.
Taylor-Britt had a solid 2024 season for Cincinnati before dealing with injuries last year. He’s only 26, so I like that the Colts got him on a 1-year “prove it” deal. It’s also nice that Taylor-Britt played under Lou Anarumo in Cincinnat, so there won’t be a transition period for him at all.

Ravens sign C Danny Pinter (1 year, $2.25 million): B+ Grade
The Ravens have upgraded some aspects of their roster in free agency, but they also lost a key player with Tyler Linderbaum leaving for the Raiders. They need to find a new center, which would explain this signing.
Danny Pinter has been a backup with the Colts throughout his career. He’s filled in well, but he ideally would continue to serve that role. He gives the Ravens an insurance policy just in case they can’t land one of the talented centers in the 2026 NFL Draft class (check out my 2026 NFL Mock Draft for specific players.)

Texans sign G Wyatt Teller (2 years, $16 million): B+ Grade
The Texans were jettisoning offensive linemen like the world was coming to an end earlier this offseason, but they’ve since added new blockers. They acquired two new offensive linemen before this signing – Braden Smith, Evan Brown – and now Wyatt Teller becomes the third blocker added to the front in the past few weeks.
This would have been an amazing signing a couple of years ago. Teller was once considered one of the better guards in the NFL. That’s no longer the case after a couple of down seasons, but Teller can still block well and can serve as a fine stopgap for Houston’s next guard. This is also a cheap enough signing that it won’t hurt Houston very much if Teller proves to be a total bust.

Eagles sign WR Marquise Brown (1 year): C+ Grade
The Eagles plan on trading A.J. Brown, so it would make sense for them to pursue a receiver in free agency. The problem is that Marquise Brown would not be an adequate replacement for A.J. Brown. Marquise Brown had a chance to operate with a great quarterback last year, yet did nothing in a Kansas City receiver room mostly devoid of talent. He had just 587 yards and five touchdowns in 16 games, most of which were with Patrick Mahomes at the helm.
The only nice thing I can say about this signing is that it doesn’t carry much risk. However, there isn’t much upside either, as Marquise Brown appears to be completely washed up.

NFL Free Agent Signing Grades: March 16 Updates
49ers sign WR Christian Kirk (1 year, $6 million): B+ Grade
The 49ers have signed two receivers this offseason, and both happen to be perfect fits for their team. Mike Evans and Christian Kirk both have an extensive history of injuries, and as it so happens, most 49er players in general also have an extensive history of injuries.
Christian Kirk misses plenty of action, but he’s still a very effective player on the rare occasions when he’s healthy. We saw that in his dominant performance against the Steelers in the playoff victory a couple of months ago. Kirk should be productive for the 49ers when he can remain on the field. If he can’t do so, the 49ers won’t take too much of a hit because of the nature of this 1-year “prove it” contract.

Eagles sign TE Dallas Goedert (1 year): A- Grade
It seemed like a foregone conclusion that Dallas Goedert would be leaving Philadelphia this offseason. Somehow, the Eagles and Goedert came to an agreement to keep the talented tight end with the Eagles for at least one more season.
Goedert has been a very productive tight end over the years, though he’s had trouble staying healthy. He’s also 31 now, so age-related regression could be coming this year. However, this pact is just for one season, so there’s almost no risk, so it’s impossible to grade this signing poorly at all.

NFL Free Agent Signing Grades: March 15 Updates
Cardinals sign WR/KR Devin Duvernay (1 year, $2.5 million): B Grade
Devin Duvernay is primarily a return specialist and an occasional deep threat on offense. He’ll help the Cardinals in the former regard, so this signing makes sense. Duvernay made the Pro Bowl for his return ability, so this seems like a quality cheap signing.

NFL Free Agent Signing Grades: March 14 Updates
Panthers re-sign S Nick Scott (1 year, $3.25 million): A Grade
Nick Scott had been a backup for many years, but he started for the Panthers last season and performed very well. It was his best year as a pro, so it’s nice that the Panthers are able to bring him back at such a small price. Scott could regress, especially at his age (31), but it’s not like Carolina is taking on any risk with this move.

Colts re-sign TE Mo Alie-Cox (1 year): A Grade
The Colts have Tyler Warren now, but re-signing Mo Alie-Cox was crucial because of his important role on the team. Alie-Cox is one of the better blocking tight ends in the NFL. He’s 32 now, so he could regress soon, but Alie-Cox was signed to a 1-year deal, so it’s not like the Colts are taking on any risk like some of the other teams that have signed blocking tight ends to massive contracts.

Giants sign WR Darnell Mooney (1 year, $10 million): B Grade
Darnell Mooney had a solid season with the Falcons in 2024, catching 64 passes for nearly 1,000 yards. He was expected to repeat this performance last season, but he battled through numerous injuries and was ineffective overall.
Mooney is healthy now, so there’s a good chance we’ll see him revert to 2024 form. If so, he can be a fine short-term replacement for Wan’Dale Robinson. I don’t like seeing the Giants paying such a hefty price tag for one season, but I don’t have too much of an issue with this signing.

Texans sign G/C Evan Brown (1 year, $3.5 million): B+ Grade
The Texans have severe offensive line issues, so they need as much help as possible with their blocking unit. Evan Brown isn’t an amazing blocker by any means, but he’s a half-decent pass protector who can play both guard and center relatively effectively. He’s a solid, cheap signing who will add some needed versatility.

Chargers re-sign QB Trey Lance (1 year, $6.75 million): B+ Grade
Average backup quarterbacks cost about $5-6 million per year, so by that measure, Trey Lance could be considered an overpay. Lance hasn’t proven that he’s an average-level backup, so it could be argued that he shouldn’t have gotten so much money.
Then again, Lance still possesses plenty of upside. He was the No. 3 overall pick five years ago for a reason. Given how many former busts have thrived, it’s not impossible that Lance could eventually meet expectations and make something of his career, so I’m going to grade this signing favorably.

NFL Free Agent Signing Grades: March 13 Updates
Browns sign DT Kalia Davis (1 year, $3 million): C Grade
Kalia Davis was one of the worst starting defensive tackles in the NFL last year. He played about half the snaps, but did nothing well. He had just nine quarterback pressures all season, and he was a major liability against the run. He’s just a body in the trenches, and it shouldn’t be a surprise if he fails to crack the 53-man roster on a better defense.

Jets re-sign S Andre Cisco (1 year, $5.25 million): A+ Grade
Andre Cisco’s down year did not come at a great time. He’s played very well in the past, but struggled in 2025. He dealt with an injury, which could have been the catalyst for his regression. Cisco, however, is just 26, so there’s a good chance he’ll rebound. The Jets did extremely well to re-sign him to this 1-year “prove it” deal, as they should get him at his best in 2026.

Steelers sign DT Sebastian Joseph-Day (2 years, $11 million): B Grade
Sebastian Joseph-Day is a Jack of all trades type of defensive tackle. He gets after the quarterback on occasion, and is solid, but not great against the run. He’s a fine rotational player, and the Steelers needed depth in this area. This is a decent signing that is appropriately priced.

Lions sign CB Roger McCreary (1 year): B Grade
Roger McCreary was once a starting slot cornerback for the Titans. That changed last year when he was moved to the Rams. McCreary barely played in Los Angeles, so it’s not a surprise that he was available for a mere 1-year contract.
The Lions are in desperate need of defensive back depth, so this signing makes sense. McCreary, 26, can be a quality depth piece in Detroit’s secondary at a cheap price, so it’s hard to criticize this move.

Bills sign S Geno Stone (1 year): B+ Grade
The Bills correctly identified that they had a major problem at safety. That position has been a weakness for a couple of years, so Buffalo signed two players to strengthen the position. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson was added the prior day, and now Geno Stone has been obtained.
Stone had a solid 2023 season for the Ravens, but never played well in two years in Cincinnati. Stone, however, is just 27 (as of April), so he could rebound, especially with a better pass rush supporting him. The Bills are not taking much of a risk here, so this is mostly upside.

Panthers sign OT Rasheed Walker (1 year, $10 million): A+ Grade
The Panthers looked set at tackle with Ikem Ekwonu and Taylor Moton, but tragedy struck in the playoffs and Ekwonu suffered a brutal patellar tendon injury. This sort of injury can knock a player out for a long time, so there’s no guarantee Ekwonu would be able to play in 2026 at all. Thus, it makes sense that the Panthers would bring in a rental like this.
This is yet another outstanding signing by the Panthers. Walker is an excellent blind-side pass protector, and he’ll be a great substitute as Ekwonu recovers.

Chargers sign DT Dalvin Tomlinson (1 year, $7.5 million): C+ Grade
Dalvin Tomlinson signed with the Cardinals recently, but he didn’t last very long. He played just one season in Arizona and was utterly awful. Given how bad he was, it’s surprising that the Chargers signed him to a contract worth $7.5 million in 2026.
The Chargers are obviously banking on Tomlinson reverting to pre-2025 form. Tomlinson wasn’t nearly as bad in 2024, so it’s possible he could rebound and fix the team’s issues at defensive tackle. At 32, Tomlinson isn’t exactly ancient, but then again, maybe he’s just done. Either way, the Chargers should’ve been able to acquire him on a cheaper deal.

Dolphins sign WR Jalen Tolbert (1 year): B- Grade
Jalen Tolbert was hyped up in fantasy circles as a potential tertiary option for Dak Prescott, but he never developed into that role. Tolbert was eventually by Ryan Flournoy, who became what everyone thought Tolbert would be. Tolbert is 27, so there’s still time for him, but it’s hard to feel very optimistic about his chances of transforming into a relevant receiver. This is a cheap 1-year contract, however, so it’s not like there’s any sort of downside.

Dolphins sign G/OT Jamaree Salyer (1 year): A Grade
The Dolphins have maintained one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL recently. They’re tasked with fixing this issue to give Malik Willis the best chance of succeeding, so any upgrade is welcome.
Jamaree Salyer won’t move the needle too drastically, but he’s a very solid player to have on the blocking unit because he has shown that he can play both tackle and guard well. He’s also started 40 games in his caree, so his experience and versatility will be a huge boon for Willis and the Dolphins.

Cowboys sign CB Cobie Durant (1 year, $5.5 million): B+ Grade
Cobie Durant is an inconsistent cornerback, but the Cowboys will take anything they can get at this point at the position, which was a nightmare for them in 2025. Durant played well this past year after a down 2024, so Dallas will be hoping for more of what Durant produced last season.
I’m a fan of this signing. This is all upside, as Durant failing won’t penalize the Cowboys very much.

NFL Free Agent Signing Grades: March 12 Updates
Eagles sign DE/OLB Arnold Ebiketie (1 year, $7.3 million): B+ Grade
Arnold Ebiketie didn’t post amazing stats last year. He logged 25 quarterback pressures and 2.5 sacks, so that won’t wow anyone. However, consider that Ebiketie played about only 20 snaps per game. Considering the lack of usage, he was relatively productive.
The Eagles will have Ebiketie assume the same role in their deep rotation. They lost some depth on the edge this offseason, so it makes sense to bring in Ebiketie on a 1-year deal that won’t carry much risk.

Steelers sign S Jaquan Brisker (1 year): A+ Grade
Jaquan Brisker had a great start to his career in Chicago as a well-rounded safety, but hit a snag in 2024 when he missed most of the season with an injury. He played for most of 2025, but didn’t seem 100 percent.
The Steelers are getting Brisker on a great deal. He’s just 27 (as of April), so he can certainly bounce back and have another stellar season. If not, then Pittsburgh isn’t risking anything. This is all upside.

Eagles sign CB Jonathan Jones (1 year): B Grade
This signing would have been much better a few years ago. Jonathan Jones had many successful years in New England, but he wasn’t quite the same in his first year away from the Patriots this past season. Jones struggled in Washington, though that could be attributed to a poor pass rush. Then again, Jones will turn 33 in September, so it’s just as likely that he’s past his prime and won’t play well again. The good news for the Eagles is that they aren’t taking much of a chance with this signing.

Raiders sign FB/TE Connor Heyward (2 years, $5.5 million): B+ Grade
Ashton Jeanty had a negative yards-before-contact average last year. This means, that on average, he had to dodge defenders in the backfield. The Raiders obviously had to do something about this besides count on Kolton Miller staying healthy. They signed Tyler Linderbaum, but had to do much more.
Enter, Connor Heyward, who will play fullback in Klint Kubiak’s offense. Heyward isn’t the most amazing blocker, but he’s solid in that regard, so he’ll help create some running lanes for Jeanty. If this signing helps contribute turning Jeanty’s yards-before-carry average to a positive, then it’ll have been worth it.

Bills sign S/CB Chauncey Gardner-Johnson (1 year, $6 million): A- Grade
If there was anyone built for 1-year “prove it” deals, it’s Chauncey Gardner-Johnson. There are two things wrong with the versatile defensive back. First, Gardner-Johnson tends to deal with lots of injuries. He was banged up last season and struggled following a brilliant 2024 campaign. Second, Gardner-Johnson tends to be a problem in the locker room.
Despite these issues, I like the Bills taking a chance on Gardner-Johnson. Buffalo is a team long overdue for a Super Bowl appearance, so it needs to take risks to finally get over the hump. Safety has been a problem position over the past couple of seasons, so Gardner-Johnson could be a big upgrade. He could also cause issues, but if the Eagles could win a Super Bowl in 2024 with Gardner-Johnson, then so can the Bills in 2026.

Giants sign WR Calvin Austin (1 year): B+ Grade
The Giants lost Wan’Dale Robinson, so they needed to obtain at least one receiver to replenish depth at the position. The Giants still need to bolster their receiver group, but adding Calvin Austin is an OK start.
My only real issue here is that Austin is an inconsistent deep threat. Between Darius Slayton and Jalin Hyatt, the Giants already have enough inconsistent deep threats, so perhaps they should have tried to obtain another type of receiver. Still, Austin signed for just one year, so it’s not like New York is really risking anything.

Titans sign S Tony Adams (1 year): A Grade
It’s a shame that Tony Adams is constantly injured; otherwise, he would have received a much more lucrative contract than this. Instead, he had to sign a 1-year “prove it” contract with another bad team.
Perhaps Adams will be able to stay on the field every week this year. It doesn’t seem likely, but if Adams does, the Titans will be getting a cheap safety who can play well in coverage.

Buccaneers sign DE Al-Quadin Muhammad (1 year): A Grade
Al-Quadin Muhammad was incredibly productive last year despite playing about 40-50 percent of the team’s defensive snaps. Despite not seeing ample playing time, he logged 11.5 sacks and 53 pressures. The Buccaneers needed an upgraded pass rush, and Muhammad will certainly help.
The one downside to this signing is that Muhammad is 31, so he may not play as well as he did last year. However, the risk is mitigated by this contract being for only one year, so the Buccaneers should be graded highly for this move.

Seahawks sign RB Emanuel Wilson (1 year): A- Grade
The Seahawks had Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet form a solid committee last year, but Walker is gone and Charbonnet is coming off a torn ACL. George Holani was the lone, viable running back remaining, so the Seahawks had to obtain some help at the position.
Emanuel Wilson is a decent signing, considering the Seahawks brought him in for just one year. Wilson has been decent in relief of Josh Jacobs over the past two years, so he could be a fine option if the Seahawks don’t like any of the running back options available to them in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Vikings sign QB Kyler Murray (1 year, minimum): A Grade
There are a wide range of opinions on Kyler Murray. One dingus on NFL Network ranked Murray as his No. 4 overall free agent, even above Trey Hendrickson. This Adam Brody look-alike probably would’ve had a seizure if he read a response from my friend, Joe from the Fantasy Counselor, who said, “Murray is useless.”
Joe is right. Murray has a very extensive injury history and has shown an inability to get the ball to his best players. Murray wasn’t even the best quarterback on the Cardinals last year, as Jacoby Brissett outplayed him. We didn’t think Trey McBride was capable of scoring touchdowns until Brissett took over as the starter. Murray has rushing upside, but that’s about it.
Despite Murray being a pedestrian quarterback, this signing can’t be graded poorly. The Vikings aren’t paying Murray anything above the veteran minimum because the Cardinals are footing the bill. And as bad as Murray’s been, J.J. McCarthy was worse last year. The Vikings will be able to have McCarthy compete with a veteran presence in training camp, so if that pushes him and makes him better, then this signing will be a success.

49ers sign LB Dre Greenlaw (1 year, $7.5 million): A+ Grade
Dre Greenlaw suffered an unfortunate injury in San Francisco’s most recent Super Bowl. He barely played in 2024 and then signed with the Broncos last offseason. Greenlaw once again missed action before returning to the field late in the year. He played relatively well, but wasn’t quite himself.
Now that Greenlaw is another year removed from his injury, he should continue to revert to form. There’s a good chance that Greenlaw, 29 in May, will play like his old self, especially now that he’s back with the 49ers. If he does, this is an amazing bargain for San Francisco. If not, the 49ers won’t lose much because there isn’t much risk to this contract.

Redskins sign RB Rachaad White (1 year): A+ Grade
A lot of things went wrong for the Redskins last year. One of the many problems was Austin Ekeler’s devastating injury. Ekeler was supposed to be a reliable receiving threat for Jayden Daniels out of the backfield, but he tore his Achilles in a Week 2 Thursday night affair against the Packers.
Rachaad White will be what Ekeler was supposed to be, and even better than that because Ekeler was already past his prime last year. White is still in his prime, so he’ll be a very effective receiver out of the backfield. He’s not much of a runner, but he’ll be a reliable weapon for Daniels. Even better, White is serving just a 1-year deal, so there’s hardly any risk involved. I love this signing.

Bengals sign DT Jonathan Allen (2 years, $26 million): C- Grade
The Bengals don’t sign too many free agents, so maybe they’re not aware that teams are supposed to watch film of the players they intend to sign. A crazy concept, but one that occasionally works!
I’m mentioning this because it’s apparent that the Bengals didn’t watch film of how Allen has performed recently. Allen can still get a bit of pressure on the quarterback, but he’s not nearly as good in that regard as he once was. He’s also a huge liability against the run. This is a massive overpay.

Texans sign DL Logan Hall (2 years, $13.7 million): B+ Grade
Houston already had one of the best defensive lines in the NFL. The team added even more talent with Logan Hall, a former second-round pick. This signing was made yesterday, but we just received contract details.
Logan Hall saw his sack total drop from 5.5 in 2024 to 1.5 in 2025. However, that number is misleading because Hall’s quarterback pressure numbers actually rose this past season, so he was unlucky with his sack number. He’ll be able to get to the quarterback in Houston with so much attention being placed on the Texans’ other incredibly talented defensive linemen.

Bears sign WR/KR Kalif Raymond (1 year, $3.2 million): B+ Grade
Kalif Raymond was signed a couple of days ago, but we just received the numbers on his contract. He’ll be getting $3.2 million for one season.
This is a solid move by the Bears. Raymond isn’t much of a receiver outside of an occasional deep threat, but he’s an asset on special teams as a return specialist. He’ll contribute in that regard, and I like that the Bears were able to steal him away from a divisional rival.

Titans sign DE/OLB Jacob Martin (2 years, $11 million): A Grade
The Titans have had a mixed free agency period thus far. They’ve overpaid for some players, but they’ve also made some quality signings. This counts as the latter.
Jacob Martin is not a household name by any means, but he’s an underrated edge rusher. He had 45 quarterback pressures last year, which was No. 1 on the Redskins by nine (Von Miller, 36). Being atop that chart on the Redskins is a low bar, but the fact remains that Martin placed a healthy amoutn of pressure on opposing signal-callers, making this signing a great bargain.

Chargers sign RB Keaton Mitchell (2 years, $9.3 million): B+ Grade
The Chargers had massive injury issues on offense last year. Everyone remembers their top two tackles being sidelined, but their top two running backs were also out for a chunk of the season. With Najee Harris being a big question mark, it made sense for the Chargers to obtain a better backup behind Omarion Hampton so they wouldn’t have to rely on Kimani Vidal again.
Keaton Mitchell is an electric back who can take it the distance whenever he touches the ball. He’s a nice signing at this cheap price.

NFL Free Agent Signing Grades: March 11 Updates
Redskins sign DE Charles Omenihu (1 year, $7 million): B+ Grade
Make that three edge rushers the Redskins have added this offseason. We’ll probably know soon enough from Charlie, but I don’t think these signings will preclude the Redskins from addressing the edge rush at No. 7 overall, especially with two of the new pass rushers being on 1-year deals, including Charles Omenihu.
Omenihu had 3.5 sacks last year and seven two seasons prior. He’s a decent rotational edge player who will provide valuable depth at a position that was a huge weakness for Washington last year.

Buccaneers sign DT A’Shawn Robinson (1 year, $10 million): B Grade
I’m all for 1-year “prove it” contracts, but there has to be a limit. After all, there’s only so much A’Shawn Robinson can prove. I don’t see a reality in which he ever meets this $10 million value.
Robinson was able to get a fair amount of pressure on the quarterback last year. He tallied 31 pressures and three sacks, so it’s not like he was a bad player. However, Robinson turns 31 next week, so it’s possible that the Buccaneers won’t see the version of Robinson the Panthers had last year.

Everyone expected Jacory Croskey-Merritt to handle the workload in Washington, but that never materialized because Chris Rodriguez wouldn’t relinquish the job. Rodriguez is a tough runner who had some nice performances last season. He has a chance to become a fantasy sleeper this year, given that Liam Coen is a running back whisperer. He’ll likely split the workload with Bhayshul Tutan in a committee that will likely outperform expectations.

Andrew Wingard was undrafted in 2019, but did well to make the best of his career. He can be a liability in coverage, but he’s stout in run support. Considering how much the other three teams in the NFC West love to run the ball, Wingard will have a role in Arizona. He’s a solid addition at this cheap price.

I love it when teams poach a talented player from a rival. That’s what the Packers did in this instance, snatching Javon Hargrave off the market about an hour after the Vikings cut him.
Hargrave is 33, so he could regress this year, but he was still capable of putting ample pressure on opposing quarterbacks last season. The Packers needed defensive line help with Rashan Gary gone, and Hargrave should be a viable, short-term replacement.

Bills sign DE Bradley Chubb (3 years, $43.5 million): A Grade
There seems to be an arms race between the Bills and Ravens to be the top team in the AFC. Baltimore made a blockbuster deal to obtain Trey Hendrickson on Wednesday morning, and the Bills responded by signing Bradley Chubb.
Chubb wasn’t expected to do much in 2025 because he was coming off a torn ACL. However, he was still able to accumulate 8.5 sacks. He’s turning 30 this offseason, but he should be better in 2026 because he’ll be two years removed from his knee injury. Chubb will give Buffalo a huge pass-rushing boost, which will help the team advance deep into the playoffs this upcoming season.

Jedrick Wills had a great start to his career as Cleveland’s left tackle. Things fell apart over the past few years, however, as Wills developed knee injuries. Wills almost seems like a lost cause at this point, but there’s a chance, albeit a slight one, that he reverts to pre-2023 form. The Bears aren’t risking much to sign Wills, but I don’t really think they’ll get anything out of it.

Jake Browning’s stock fell off a cliff this past year. He was once seen as a potential starting quarterback after some solid backup stints with the Bengals, but he was horrendous in relief of Joe Burrow this past season. Browning cannot be a No. 2 quarterback in the NFL, but that is his role at the moment because Baker Mayfield is the only viable signal-caller on Tampa Bay’s roster right now.

The Jets had lots of work to do with their interior offensive line entering free agency. Signing a former Raider blocker doesn’t sound very promising, but Dylan Parham was the lone bright spot on Las Vegas’ offensive line last year once Kolton Miller suffered an injury.
Parham was solid last season, though he was much better in 2024. Still, he should serve as an upgrade for the Jets at a very reasonable price.

49ers re-sign TE Jake Tonges (2 years, $8 million): A+ Grade
San Francisco’s pass offense felt doomed last year when George Kittle suffered a multi-week injury. With Brandon Aiyuk sidelined, the 49ers didn’t have many threats remaining. San Francisco kept winning, however, because other players stepped up, and one of those players as Jake Tonges, who performed on a very high level in relief of Kittle.
Kittle tore his ACL in the playoff game against the Eagles, so Tonges will sorely be needed in the first half of the season. Tonges also could be considered to be the long-term replacement for Kittle, so to get such a player on such a cheap deal is definitely worth an A+.

Falcons sign DE/OLB Azeez Ojulari (1 year): A Grade
The Falcons used two first-round picks on edge rushers last April, but they still need help at the position because one of those players is facing 90 years in prison. Yikes! It makes sense for the Falcons to sign Azeez Ojulari from a needs perspective. The 1-year “prove it” contract is logical as well because Ojulari barely played in Philadelphia last year because of injuries. Ojulari is only 26, so I love this move as a risk-free, buy-low opportunity for Atlanta.

Ravens sign TE Durham Smythe: C Grade
The Ravens lost two talented tight ends this offseason, with Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar departing. A new tight end had to be obtained, but the Ravens should have aimed higher than Durham Smythe. The Ravens are having a great day. They initially were able to recoup their two first-round picks via a near-lateral move by going from Maxx Crosby to Trey Hendrickson, and they followed that up by signing a replacement for Ar’Darius Washington for a very reasonable price.
Jaylinn Hawkins was once known as a journeyman safety, but he played very well in New England. He thrived in coverage, so if he continues to perform that way, the Ravens will be getting a steal with him at just $5 million per season.

Redskins sign S Nick Cross (2 years, $14 million): B+ Grade
I like this signing much more than Washington’s previous acquisition of Chig Okonkwo. Of course, Nick Cross is set to make much less, so that obviously factors heavily into this grade.
Nick Cross is a 25-year-old safety with plenty of upside. He’s strong in run support, but has gotten beaten in coverage quite a bit. However, he’s young enough to improve in that regard, so I like this chance the Redskins are taking on him at a very reasonable price.

Redskins sign TE Chig Okonkwo (3 years, $30 million): C- Grade
If this signing seems familiar to you, it’s because it already happened. A young, athletic tight end signed with an NFC team for three years and $30 million two days ago. That was Cade Otton, and I gave the Buccaneers a C- grade for giving him that contract.
I’m going to assign a C- to the Redskins as well. Washington needed a tight end in the wake of Zach Ertz’s injury, and Okonkwo, like Otton, is an athletic tight end with upside. However, this is an overpay, as there’s a long history of teams regretting giving big contracts to non-elite tight ends.

Kevin Byard was once one of the better safeties in the NFL. Those days are long gone, but Byard still played well for Chicago last year. He’s worth signing to a 1-year “prove it” deal, but there’s a good chance that at 33, Byard will suffer age-related regression and struggle in 2026. The beauty of this contract is that the Patriots won’t be very penalized if Byard fails.

Ravens re-sign CB Chidobe Awuzie (1 year, $5 million): A- Grade
Chidobe Awuzie slipped and allowed a huge play against the Steelers in the regular-season finale, so it’s nice to see that he’ll be able to redeem himself. Awuzie will have to do so on a 1-year “prove it” deal, which is completely justified based on his lengthy injury history and age (31). There’s a very real chance that Awuzie’s play falls off a cliff this year, but even if it does, the Ravens won’t really stand to lose anything.

Micheal Clemons – yes, that’s the correct spelling of his first name – has been a pretty pedestrian player for the Jets. Dolphins sign DE Josh Uche (1 year): A Grade
The Eagles obtained a pass rusher from Miami just prior to the trade deadline last season. Now, the Dolphins are returning the favor, claiming an edge rusher who played for the Eagles the previous year. The difference is that Miami was not kind enough to give Philadelphia a draft pick.
Then again, Josh Uche isn’t nearly as good as Jaelan Phillips. Uche is an effective rotational edge rusher, but he missed a chunk of the 2025 season with an injury. It remains to be seen if Uche can remain healthy, but the Dolphins aren’t taking a risk with this 1-year “prove it” deal. It’s all upside for them.

Colts re-sign QB Daniel Jones (2 years, $88 million): B Grade
This looks like a completely absurd contract, but it’s a tough grade, mostly because we don’t know how healthy Daniel Jones will be to start the season.
Given the way Jones played last year, he definitely deserves to be paid at this rate. Jones was performing on an MVP level, leading what looked like the best team in the NFL on a potential Super Bowl run. He was great until he fractured his fibula and then tore his Achilles. However, the torn Achilles can’t be easily dismissed. We’ve recently seen two quarterbacks – Aaron Rodgers, Kirk Cousins – perform miserably after tearing their Achilles. Granted, they were much older than Jones is right now, but Jones relies much more on his scrambling than Rodgers and Cousins, so that aspect of his game could be compromised in 2026.
In the end, I’m fine enough with this contract to give it a “B.” It certainly can’t be graded higher because there’s a chance Jones will struggle mightily this upcoming season. However, the upside to this deal is high, and given that the contract is “just” for two years, it’s not like it’s the riskiest transaction we’ve ever seen.

Redskins sign DE K’Lavon Chaisson (1 year, $12 million): B Grade
It feels like K’Lavon Chaisson has been in the league for a decade, yet he’s just 27. So, he’s not signing this 1-year “prove it” deal because of age-related reasons. Chaisson is actually coming off a solid 7.5-sack season with the Patriots, so it’s not clear why he couldn’t find a deal with two or more years.
This is a solid move for the Redskins. Some may say that $12 million is a lot, but there isn’t too much risk to this signing because it’s only for one season. The Redskins are desperate to upgrade their pass rush, and Chaisson will certainly help in that regard.

Ravens sign DE Trey Hendrickson (4 years, $112 million): A Grade
When the Ravens canceled the Maxx Crosby trade as a result of Crosby failing his physical, I thought my futures on the Ravens went up in smoke. Luckily, the Ravens still found their elite edge rusher, signing Trey Hendrickson to a monster contract.
There’s a downside and an upside to this signing compared to the Crosby trade. The former pertains to Hendrickson’s age, which is 31. He’s two years older than Crosby, so age-related regression is more possible for him. However, I would consider Hendrickson likely to perform on a high level for the next year or two. As for the upside, the Ravens didn’t have to surrender two first-round picks for him, so being able to keep their draft capital, all while acquiring an elite pass-rushing presence, makes this entire ordeal a huge win.

Even though the Chargers just gave Trey Pipkins $10 million, they’re hoping that they never see him take the field. There’s always a chance Savage could rebound because he was seen as having plenty of talent entering the NFL, but I wouldn’t bet on it. There’s a better possibility that Savage won’t even make the final 53-man roster.

He can fill in at both center and guard, which is crucial for a Pittsburgh team that doesn’t have much depth on the offensive line. The Steelers lost their best blocker, Isaac Seumalo, so unless someone else is acquired, a backup from last year will have to fill in for Seumalo, leaving Hoffman to take the original reserve’s spot.

It’s hardly a surprise that the Giants signed Patrick Ricard. John Harbaugh has already signed a couple of former Ravens, and Patrick Ricard has always been a favorite of his.
Ricard has been a favorite of Derrick Henry’s as well. Henry has repeatedly praised Ricard for his elite blocking, so I’m sure he’ll miss him. Meanwhile, Cam Skattebo and the other Giants backs will really benefit from having a terrific lead blocker in front of them. The Giants will run the ball so much better with this cheap upgrade, so this signing must be graded very highly.

I always complain about blocking tight ends making too much money, so it would be hypocritical of me to not praise a team signing a quality blocking tight end for a cheap price. Jaguar fans might be confused about this signing because Luke Fortner was so terrible for them. Fortner went to New Orleans last year and wasn’t that bad when forced into action in the wake of injuries.
Fortner showed that he can be a quality backup or half-decent spot starter with what he did in New Orleans. That’s what the Panthers are looking for with Cade Mays gone. Fortner should be a valuable backup in Carolina with Austin Corbett constantly injured.

Is anyone remaining on Kansas City’s roster besides Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Kenneth Walker, Chris Jones, and Tyquan Thornton? It feels like everyone’s gone, as Leo Chenal has become the latest Chief player to depart. Chenal No. 54 signed with the Redskins to potentially bolster a horrible group of linebackers.
The problem with this signing is that the Redskins needed to find linebackers who can help in coverage. Chenal is more of a run defender, so Washington will continue to have issues covering the middle of the field. Chenal is still a good player, but linebacker remains a need.

Kaden Elliss began his career in New Orleans. He spent three years there, then moved to Atlanta, where he also played three years. Now, Elliss is returning to his original team once more to aid a defense that lost its top linebacker to free agency.
Elliss does everything. He’s strong in run support, he can play well in coverage, and he can also generate pressure on the quarterback. He’s a very valuable defensive piece because of his versatility. The one downside with him is that he’s now 31, but players like Elliss tend to stay on the field longer because they can continue to do some things well. Still, this is a considerable sum of money for a 31-year-old, so this signing definitely carries risk.

The good thing about Jenkins is that he can play every position on the offensive line. However, his play has regressed lately, which is why the Packers cut him. He could rebound, but there was no reason for Cleveland to give him a contract worth $12 million per season.

The Jets have done plenty of stupid things through two days of free agency, but this is not one of them. I actually love this signing enough to give it an A+.
New York has been overpaying dusty veterans despite being in a rebuild. Collecting young players on reasonable deals like Nahshon Wright is what they should’ve been doing the entire time. Wright, 27, thrived in his first year as a starter in Chicago. He should continue to improve, all while filling a big need in New York.

The Lions lost Alex Anzalone, so they absolutely had to keep Malcolm Rodriguez. They managed to do so, as Rodriguez was another obvious candidate for a 1-year “prove it” deal.
Rodriguez was a stout linebacker in 2024, particularly when it came to stopping the run. However, he was out for most of 2025 with an injury. This is rather underwhelming. The Patriots discussed trading for A.J. Brown, but all they got was Romeo Doubs. I don’t hate this signing, but it’s not exactly what was best for Drake Maye, and I imagine that most Patriots fans feel the same way.
Doubs is a mediocre receiver who has been inconsistent in Green Bay. It could be argued that this was the fault of “No Cookie” Jordan Love, so we’ll be able to see Doubs live out his full potential in New England. I’m not overly optimistic that we’ll see him bloom into a No. 1 receiver, but I won’t count out that possibility either. It’s more likely that we’ll see Doubs function as a No. 2 possession receiver, which means this is a bit of an overpay, but not an egregious one.

Smith is a superb offensive lineman, but he comes with some glaring concerns. He has a history of injury and psychological problems, which could cause his 2026 campaign to derail. This is a high-risk, high-reward signing, but I like that Houston is taking this chance.

The Lions lost David Montgomery, so they weren’t going to go into season with Jahmyr Gibbs as the only viable back on the roster. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if the Lions ended up adding a running back in Round 2-4 because of how much they love to run the ball.
Pacheco seems like an insurance policy in case the Lions can’t find a running back they like in that range. He’s a cheap signing who might be able to rebound to pre-2024 form. Pacheco was a rock-solid back until injuries derailed his career. He’s been putrid since, but perhaps being two years removed from his major injury could allow him to revert to his previous ability. If not, then the Lions aren’t really risking anything.

Giants sign CB Greg Newsome (1 year, $10 million): A Grade
Greg Newsome was traded at the deadline last season, moving from Cleveland to Jacksonville. The Jaguars didn’t quite get the upgrade in the secondary they were hoping for, as Newsome struggled with his new team.
Given what transpired, it’s not surprising to see Newsome sign a 1-year “prove it” deal. I love this move, as the Giants will get Newsome at his very best to fill a huge need in the secondary.

Packers sign CB Benjamin St-Juste (2 years, $10 million): C Grade
Benjamin St-Juste was such a bad cornerback for the Redskins that Washington fans cheered last offseason when he signed with the Chargers. St-Juste was better in San Angeles, but only because he was used sparingly. St-Juste was just a backup, but he did a fine job in relief of the starters. Perhaps he can continue to perform this way in Green Bay, but this still seems like an overpay.

Patriots sign G/OT Alijah Vera-Tucker (3 years, $42 million): B Grade
This is a tough signing to grade. Alijah Vera-Tucker is an extremely talented lineman who can play any position up front. If he can stay on the field, he’s going to give Drake Maye a great chance to remain upright, which is not what we saw in the playoffs. Maye was sacked 22 times in four playoff games. That can’t happen again.
The problem is that Vera-Tucker can’t stay healthy. He gets hurt every year and misses far too many games. I thought there was a chance Vera-Tucker would sign a 1-year “prove it” contract, but apparently not. This is a very risky signing, but then again, it has an incredibly high payoff. Hence, the difficulty of grading this contract.

NFL Free Agent Signing Grades: March 9 Updates
Chiefs sign S Alohi Gilman (3 years, $24.8 million): B+ Grade
OK, so the joke I made in the Tyquan Thornton signing doesn’t work so well anymore. I wrote that the Chiefs lost their entire secondary and barely did anything to compensate, but they’ve at least signed Alohi Gilman to replace one of their departed players.
Gilman is not as great as Bryan Cook, but he’s still a very good player. Gilman has been terrific in coverage in recent seasons, so he’ll be a capable replacement at a reasonable price. Now, the Chiefs need to work on finding two new corners and addressing all of their other many needs.

Chiefs re-sign WR Tyquan Thornton (2 years, $11 million): C+ Grade
Chiefs fans watched their entire secondary depart this week, and all they got was this stupid Tyquan Thornton re-signing. Well, that and the massive overpay at running back. Dark times for Kansas City, indeed.
This isn’t a horrible move despite what I just wrote. Tyquan Thornton made some big plays last year. The problem is that they were few and far between, as Thornton and Patrick Mahomes struggled to connect. Still, receiver was a huge need for the Chiefs entering the offseason, especially with Rashee Rice potentially facing prison time.

Panthers sign LB Devin Lloyd (3 years, $45 million): A Grade
It was surprising to see that Devin Lloyd lasted nearly until Day 2. He was one of the top linebackers in the NFL last year, so it seemed like he would be scooped up almost instantly. Yet, he was one of the final signings of the first day of free agency.
Lloyd was truly incredible last year, thriving in both run support and coverage. He’ll be sorely missed by the Jaguars, but will thrive with the other 90s expansion team. The Panthers have lacked exceptional linebacker play since the days of Luke Kuechly, but they’ll have that again with Lloyd now on the roster. The best part is that they did not overpay for Lloyd’s services.

Cowboys re-sign DE Sam Williams (1 year, $3 million): A Grade
Sam Williams makes sense as someone who would sign a 1-year “prove it” contract this offseason. Williams once showed lots of promise as a young edge rusher, but he got hurt in 2024 and didn’t play well last year. Williams could bounce back now that he’s another year removed from injury. If he doesn’t, the Cowboys won’t stand to lose much. This is a great move because there’s nothing but upside.

Broncos re-sign RB J.K. Dobbins (2 years, $20 million): C Grade
I hope that for the $20 million the Broncos spent that J.K. Dobbins comes with bubble wrap. Dobbins, sadly, has never played a full NFL season. He’s seemingly always nursing some sort of injury, which is a shame because he was so talented. Dobbins is definitely not the same player he once was, which makes me wonder why Denver spent $10 million per season on him. Surely the Broncos know that there are plenty of cheaper options that are also safer.

Based on the numbers he was producing in October last year, Rico Dowdle seemed destined to receive Kenneth Walker-type money this offseason. Dowdle fell back down to Earth, but it’s still difficult to forget how dominant he was in Carolina for a few games.
Dowdle is a solid back who serve as a quality pass-catcher out of the backfield. He’s underrated, as indicated by this contract. Dowdle deserved a bit more than this, so the Steelers are getting an upgrade on a bargain contract.

Buccaneers re-sign TE Cade Otton (3 years, $30 million): C- Grade
Cade Otton was re-signed earlier in the day, but I was awaiting the contract details. We have them now, and as I suspected, Otton was overpaid.
Otton is a talented tight end, but he’s a very inconsistent producer. He’s certainly not elite, so if you’ve been reading my grades, you know where I’m going with this. Teams always regret paying too much for non-elite tight ends, and that would apply in this instance. The Buccaneers would’ve been better off taking this $30 million and applying it to the fund to keep Mike Evans around for a couple more years.

It’s still hard to believe that Cole Strange was once a first-round pick. A hilarious moment was when the Rams were heard saying that they were considering him in the third round.

If average backup quarterbacks earn about $5 million per year, then bad backup quarterback get, well, this. This signing makes sense, and at the very least, it’s way more logical than the Panthers foolishly giving $7 million to Kenny Pickett for some reason.

Giants sign S Ar’Darius Washington (1 year): A+ Grade
If there was one player in this free agency period who needed to be a signed to a 1-year “prove it” deal, it could be argued that it should be Ar’Darius Washington. The former Raven safety was a Pro Bowl player prior to tearing his Achilles in 2024. He returned to the field late in 2025, but wasn’t nearly the same. Now, two years removed from the injury, we could see Washington return to form. Then again, Achilles injuries can be brutal, with some players never returning to their former selves.
The Giants are taking a great chance with this signing. Washington will get a shot to prove himself, all while playing for John Harbaugh again, so it’s hard not to like this signing. If Washington struggles, then the Giants won’t be penalized very much for this signing. It’s all upside.

I love 1-year “prove it” deals, and Braxton Jones definitely had to be retained for one. Jones had played at a high level for the Bears prior to 2025, but he missed most of last year with an injury.
This contract will ensure that Chicago will be getting Jones at his best effort. For that reason, there’s a good chance he’ll have a great 2026 campaign. If not, the Bears won’t stand to lose very much on this 1-year contract.

To prove how much brain damage there is around the NFL, Quincy Williams was voted ahead of Quinnen Williams in the NFL top 100 list a couple of years ago. My theory was that the players confused the two, given that there were two Q. Williamses on the Jets.
In fairness, Quincy Williams was coming off a strong year. He has regressed since then, and now age is becoming an issue (30). It’s a very Brownsian move to sign a has-been, but at least this contract isn’t an overpay. It’s just about right for Williams, who could rebound, but could also just never be the same again.

Blankenship was incredible for the Eagles in 2023 and 2024. He’s coming off a down year, but at 27, he could easily rebound in Houston’s superb defense. He was also signed for a reasonable price.

This is a surprising signing, only because I figured Kendrick Bourne would wait for Mac Jones to be traded somewhere, and then follow him there. I don’t think there’s been a more consistent quarterback-receiver combination in NFL history than Mac Jones to Kendrick Bourne, after all.
Bourne will provide quality depth for the Cardinals, who will need it if they end up trading Marvin Harrison Jr. It’s been rumored that Harrison is on the trade block, so Bourne will be a key contributor if Harrison is dealt. Bourne had some nice moments for the 49ers last year, so that should continue in Arizona.

Arizona’s offensive line is a disaster, so it’s nice to see the team making at least one move to strengthen the area. Outside of Paris Johnson, the Cardinals needed help everywhere, but now one of the guard spots is a strength.
Isaac Seumalo is a terrific blocker. He’s been awesome for the Eagles and Steelers, and will likely continue to be for Arizona. He’s 33, but interior linemen tend to play well into their mid-30s.

I’m so upset that I can’t grade this as a Millen. There’s very little risk with this contract being just for one year, so a Millen doesn’t make sense. Still, it’s a move that Matt Millen would make, especially if he deemed Kenny Pickett to be a young stallion he’d like to ride all night long. His words, not mine.
At any rate, Pickett is a horrendous backup. Andy Dalton won’t be on the team next year, but Pickett is a horrible choice to be a QB2 on the team. It’s fair to question why he’s still in the NFL.

So much for Rashid Shaheed going to Las Vegas to reunite with Klint Kubiak. Everyone believed that Shaheed would sign with the Raiders, but he opted to stay with the Seahawks instead.
It’s hard to hate this re-signing. Shaheed was a huge weapon on special teams late in the year for Seattle. The Seahawks couldn’t figure out how to use Shaheed on offense, but perhaps they’ll be able to do so with an entire offseason.

A 1-year “prove it” deal is perfect for Malcolm Koonce. The Raider edge rusher was explosive in 2023 with eight sacks, but missed all of 2024 with a torn ACL. He struggled in 2025, but now that he’s two years removed from injury, there’s a decent chance he’ll rebound. If not, then the Raiders aren’t risking all too much because this is just a 1-year deal.

Raiders sign LB Quay Walker (3 years, $40.5 million): C Grade
I called the Raiders’ offseason a mixed bag in the previous signing grade. A perfect example of that is how they’ve handled their linebacker signings. Nakobe Dean has a chance to be a special player in Las Vegas if he can rebound from injury. Conversely, I’m not nearly as optimistic about Quay Walker.
Walker had a very promising start to his career, but he has gotten worse every year. He struggled a lot this season, so it’s hard for me to see him breaking his downward trajectory. Then again, the Raiders were able to revive the career of another former Packer bust (Eric Stokes), so maybe Walker will be able to rebound in his new home.

The Raiders have had a mixed bag so far this week. They’ve made some poor decisions, but they’ve also made good choices. This signing appears to fit the latter category.
Nakobe Dean didn’t play up to this contract last year, but he was coming off an injury and wasn’t himself. I believe there’s a good chance he’ll rebound to pre-2025 form. At just 25, Dean has a great possibility of doing so, and if he does, the Raiders will be getting a stellar upgrade at linebacker.

I still would love to know what happened to Greg Dulcich in Denver. He had such a promising start to his career, but just vanished suddenly. Dulchich reemerged in Miami late last season with some nice performances while filling in for Darren Waller.
This is a great bargain for Dulcich. Sean Payton is probably scoffing at this contract, but Dulcich is a legitimate receiving threat who will help Malik Willis transition to Miami.

The Chargers made the mistake of using Trevor Penning at tackle after they acquired him at the deadline last year. Of course, they didn’t really have much of a choice because of all their injuries, but still. Penning is a disaster when playing tackle, but he’s been a decent blocker at guard. Chiefs re-sign TE Travis Kelce (1 year, $12 million): B+ Grade
It’s pretty surprising that Travis Kelce is returning for another season. When he walked off the field in the home finale versus the Broncos last year, it seemed as though he was saying goodbye for good. I figured he would take some time to concentrate on his sham wedding, but he’s coming back to Kansas City for one more ride.
Kelce is mostly washed up at this stage of his career, but I think this is a good signing for two reasons. First, Rashee Rice has a pretty good chance of going to prison, so Kelce would be needed more as an intermediate receiver over the middle of the field. Second, with Patrick Mahomes coming off a torn ACL, it’ll be helpful for him to have a familiar weapon as he eases himself back into action.

Giants re-sign OT Jermaine Eluemunor (3 years, $39 million): A Grade
Jaxson Dart was beaten to a pulp in his rookie year, so the worst thing the Giants could have done this season was worsen his pass protection. Allowing Jermaine Eluemunor to walk would have hurt Dart’s development, so it’s great that the Giants were able to retain him.
Eluemunor thrived in pass protection last year, so this contract makes a lot of sense. He probably would’ve commanded more if he weren’t 31 years old, but he should still be able to perform on a high level for two more seasons.

This signing was very confusing because I forgot that Dee Alford is still in the NFL. I had to remind myself of how pedestrian Alford was for the Falcons last year. Alford had played somewhat OK in the past, but he was putrid in 2025.

Washington’s defense has been a mess in recent years. It was much better when the team had two mega talents at defensive tackle, so perhaps the front office is trying to recreate that.

49ers sign WR Mike Evans (3 years, $60.4 million): B- Grade
It seems as though everyone is celebrating this signing as a great one, but I’m not so sure. It looks great on paper, but there are several problems with it.
The elephant in the room is that Evans is 33 (as of August). Most receivers tend to decline at 31-32, so Evans is at a point in his career in which he could regress. Another issue is that Evans has been injured frequently in recent years. He has chronic hamstring issues, which can only get worse in a San Francisco environment where everyone always gets hurt. And finally, this money could have gone toward paying Trent Williams. As Evan Daniel said, “You and I might as well be the receivers if Williams is traded.”
Still, there’s a chance that everything works out. If the 49ers re-sign Williams, and Evans has a strong year in which he doesn’t get hurt, this move could help the 49ers win the Super Bowl.

Cardinals sign QB Gardner Minshew (1 year, $8.25 million): B Grade
As I wrote below when I graded the Marcus Mariota re-signing, average backup quarterbacks tend to go for $5 million per season. Gardner Minshew is as mediocre as it gets for a No. 2 quarterback, but he has tons of experience, so that has to be part of the equation. It was also important for Arizona to sign a smart quarterback (42 Wonderlic) to help tutor Ty Simpson, so Minshew will serve as a pseudo coach of sorts.

I’m not sure if Raider fans have heard this, but the Raiders botched the Maxx Crosby trade. Regardless, they needed at least two pass rushers to replace what Crosby provided for them, so here’s one.
Based on Kwity Paye’s production, this is an overpay. Paye had four sacks last year, so $16 million per season seems absurd. However, Paye played much better than that number indicates. He was able to generate lots of pressure on opposing quarterbacks, so I’m confident his sack total will rise in Las Vegas.

It’s sad, but Tua Tagovailoa is washed up. His brain is scrambled from too many concussions. He’s a shell of what he once was. He was benched twice for Quinn Ewers last year. It was a complete disaster.
Wait, so why the A+ grade? Because the Falcons are getting Tagovailoa for the 1-year minimum. The Dolphins are footing the bill for his contract, so Atlanta doesn’t have to pay him anything. There’s a chance, albeit a very unlikely one, that Tagovailoa can finally bounce back and have a strong season. At the very least, he’ll provide some competition for Michael Penix Jr. I’m not expecting much, but there’s no downside, so why not?

Jerry Jones is losing his marbles, so he may not be aware of two things concerning this deal: One, the safety position has been devalued. And two, this 2026 NFL Draft class is packed with talented safeties.
With that in mind, there’s no reason the Cowboys should have given $36 million to Jalen Thompson. It’d be one thing if Thompson were an elite player, but he’s not. He’s very good, but this is an overpay.

Someone must have locked Mike Brown in a room and took all of his bank information. One big signing in free agency was shocking. Two seems impossible. This is akin to seeing the sun rise in the west. I don’t know which is more improbable, actually.
Boye Mafe tallied nine sacks two years ago, so he seems like a viable replacement for Trey Hendrickson. Mafe’s production dipped after that, but he’s been playing in a very deep rotation, so there’s a good chance that he’ll bounce back to his old production because he’ll be asked to do a lot more in Cincinnati.

Charlie Campbell reported during the combine that the Redskins really wanted to add an edge rusher at No. 7 overall. It’ll be interesting to see if we can get an update on that in the wake of the Redskins giving Odafe Oweh $100 million.
I like this move for Washington, but can’t say I love it. Oweh has registered 17.5 total sacks over the past two seasons. He’s a very talented edge rusher, but I can’t say that he’s elite, and this is elite type of money. Oweh, however, is just 27, so perhaps he can continue to evolve into one. It’s worth noting, however, that he’s a big liability against the run.

The Seahawks had two of prominent cornerbacks entering free agency, with Tariq Woolen and Josh Jobe set to have their contracts expire. Woolen is all but certain to leave, but Seattle was able to retain Jobe.
However, I don’t view this as a great move because it seems as though the Seahawks overpaid. Jobe isn’t a bad cornerback by any means, but he’s as pedestrian as it gets, so I can’t really support a contract worth $8 million per season. I think something worth $5 million per year or so would have been more appropriate.

Chargers sign TE Charlie Kolar (3 years, $24.3 million): B- Grade
Everyone knows about Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely, but Charlie Kolar was an important member of Baltimore’s offense. Kolar didn’t catch many passes, but he served as one of the top blocking tight ends in the NFL.
I’ve long maintained that blocking tight ends are overpaid, but if a team is going to give one lots of money, it might as well be someone who is one of the best in the league. There’s no doubt that Kolar will improve the Chargers’ offense.

Bengals sign S Bryan Cook (3 years, $40.25 million): B+ Grade
Hell must have frozen because the Bengals have spent a lot of money on someone in free agency. I imagine this money had to be pried out of Mike Brown’s hands, but Cincinnati gave it to Bryan Cook, who served as a stellar safety for the Chiefs.
Cook is coming off the best season of his career, so he’s well worth this money. I’m not big on paying safeties lots of money, due to the position being devalued, but Cook’s high talent level makes up for that in this evaluation.

Titans sign CB Cordale Flott (3 years, $45 million): B Grade
The Titans had such a poor secondary last season that they needed to find not one, not two, but three cornerbacks this spring. They still have lots of work to do at the position despite this signing, but it’s a decent start.
Cordale Flott is not a known commodity, but he was a fine starter for the Giants last year. This is a bit more than what I would have paid him, but I definitely don’t hate this move. Flott is only 25, so he might have a very bright future ahead of him.

Colts sign DE Arden Key (2 years, $20 million): B Grade
The Colts overpaid for Alec Pierce earlier in the day. This is a more reasonable signing, as Indianapolis bolstered its pass rush with a former rival.
Arden Key has logged 16.5 sacks over the past three years. He’s not a great edge rusher by any means, but he’s a quality rotational player who will help Indianapolis attempt to vanquish Trevor Lawrence and C.J. Stroud. Key was signed to reasonable terms, making this a “B” grade type of signing.

Giants sign LB Tremaine Edmunds (3 years, $36 million): D Grade
The Giants are having a rough day. They earlier overpaid for an inconsistent tight end despite not having a need at the position, and now they just gave $12 million per season to a two-down linebacker.
The Bears thoughtlessly discarded Edmunds about a week ago because he was such a big disappointment for them. Edmunds is solid against the run, but is awful in coverage. A player like this does not deserve $12 million per season, so I don’t know what the Giants are thinking with this move.

Titans sign DL John Franklin-Myers (3 years, $63 million): A- Grade
To understand John Franklin-Myers’ value, just ask any Jets fan how much they’ve missed him before he departed for Denver. The Jets’ defense began its collapse when Franklin-Myers left the team, and now Denver will experience something similar.
Franklin-Myers is an awesome defensive lineman. He’s logged 14.5 sacks over the past two years, and at 29, he should continue to perform on a high level for 2-3 great years. This is the type of player Tennessee’s poor defense sorely needed.

Browns sign G Zion Johnson (3 years, $49.5 million): C- Grade
A few grades below this one, I made fun of the Falcons watching Jahan Dotson’s college tape prior to signing him because Dotson had done nothing in Philadelphia or Washington. The same can be said of this signing, to an extent.
Zion Johnson, like Dotson, was a former first-round pick. He hasn’t been a complete failure, but he hasn’t lived up to his billing either. He’s been a mediocre blocker overall. He’s not worth this price tag at all, but I can at least see why the Browns made the move. They had a huge hole at guard, and I’m always a fan of beefing up the offensive line for a young quarterback. Shedeur Sanders is a Pro Bowler, like it or not, so Johnson can help Sanders take the next step.

Bears sign LB Devin Bush (3 years, $30 million): B+ Grade
As mentioned earlier during the Coby Bryant signing, the Bears need everything on defense. That wasn’t the case with their linebackers, but that changed with Tremaine Edmunds being jettisoned.
Devin Bush could be a nice signing for Chicago. I say “could” because Bush has experienced a roller coaster career. He’s had some horrible years, but he’s coming off a great season in 2025, so perhaps he’ll continue to play at a high level. The price makes sense for him.

The Steelers are used to having a great defense, but that wasn’t the case last year because their secondary had major problems. Cornerback was a huge issue, so it’s not a surprise to see a signing like this.
Jamel Dean is coming off a great year as Tampa’s top cornerback. He’s going to be a big upgrade, and it’s not like Pittsburgh is breaking the bank with this move.

What are the Jets doing? Seriously, what are they doing? This would be a great signing for them if they were, say, competing for a Super Bowl. Do they think they’re competing for a Super Bowl?
David Onyemata is a talented defensive lineman who stuffs the run well and generates good pressure on the quarterback. However, he’s 33, so regression could be coming soon. Onyemata would’ve been perfect for a top team looking for a short-term spark at defensive tackle, but the plan doesn’t make any sense for New York.

Raiders sign WR Jalen Nailor (3 years, $35 million): KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN MILLENS Grade
I wrote this in my NFL Free Agent Rankings back in January: “Jalen Nailor had a big game down the stretch that could cause him to receive a larger contract than what he’s worth.” Well, there’s a sucker born every day, and the Raiders are one of the NFL’s biggest suckers. They were one of the top candidates to overpay for Nailor.
Nailor is just a No. 3 receiver at best, and I’m not even sure if he’s a No. 3 receiver. Giving him $35 million is laughable. What an absurd signing.

The Falcons must have watched Jahan Dotson’s college film prior to signing him because they never would have given him $15 million for his NFL work. Dotson has been a bum in the pros who has contributed nothing to either the Redskins or Eagles.
This was almost a Millen grade, but it’s just not enough money to meet the threshold. Still, $15 million for Dotson is absurd.

I love the idea of giving Tyler Shough the best offensive line possible. The Saints had great play from their tackles and center last year, so finding better guard play will make Shough even better.
I’m a big fan of this signing, though one downside can’t be ignored. David Edwards has a long injury history, so signing him could backfire. However, Edwards didn’t get hurt last year, so perhaps he’s over his injuries.

Chiefs sign DT Khyiris Tonga (3 years, $21 million): MILLEN Grade
Call me cray, but $7 million per season is a bit too much for a player who is mostly just a meme. Khyiris Tonga is a 330-pound nose tackle who played about 20 snaps per game last year and wasn’t very good at stuffing the run. He got a bit of pressure on the quarterback, but not very much.
This is a Millen grade. Not only are the Chiefs overpaying; they’re getting a player on the downside because Tonga turns 30 in July, so it’s not like there’s any upside with this move.

Titans sign WR Wan’Dale Robinson (4 years, $78 million): D Grade
One of those India-based X accounts posting about the NFL told us that Wan’Dale Robinson would be earning $25 million per season. Robinson didn’t quite hit that mark, but this signing is still for way too much money.
To put it simply, the Titans entered the offseason needing a wide receiver. They spent $78 million on a receiver, and yet they still need a No. 1 receiver. Wan’Dale Robinson has been just a PPR scam artist for most of his career. He became more than that last year, but he’s still not a No. 1 wideout, and yet he’s being paid like one.

Saints sign RB Travis Etienne (4 years, $52 million): D Grade
This is a lot of money for a running back who was deemed a big bust heading into 2025. Travis Etienne was awful for a former first-round pick, getting benched in favor of Tank Bigsby in 2024. It wasn’t even clear if the Jaguars were going to retain him.
Etienne has to thank his lucky stars that running back whisperer Liam Coen came into his life. Etienne had an amazing 2025, leading to this signing. However, running backs who depart from Coen do not fare well. Just look at the history of it if you don’t believe me. It’s not pretty. Thus, I have to deem this signing to be a big overpay.

Pour one out for any Trey Benson truthers. The Cardinals had no running game last year in the wake of the injuries to Benson and James Conner, so they had to find a new running back, even after retaining Conner earlier this offseason.
Tyler Allgeier is a great bargain. He should have earned more than $6 million, yet the Cardinals were able to get a very cheap option to be their new primary back.

The Raiders botched the Maxx Crosby trade, but they began making up for it with this incredible signing. Raiders fans are used to seeing me criticize their team, but this is an “A” grade signing.
A professional bettor of 35 years said on our nightly show that the Raiders had the worst offensive line he had ever seen last season. Center was the biggest position of weakness on that offensive line, so the Raiders did well to secure one of the top players at the position to provide an enormous upgrade. This is a huge signing because Linderbaum will be a huge boost for Fernando Mendoza’s development.

The Lions already had their work cut out for them this offseason concerning fixing their offensive line. Jared Goff took nearly 40 sacks in 2025, so multiple offensive linemen were needed. Then, Taylor Decker departed, giving Detroit yet another hole up front.
This signing is a great start to repair the front. Frank Ragnow was sorely missed last year, but Cade Mays could be a decent replacement. He pass protected very well for the Panthers this past season. He was added to a deal worth less than $10 million per year, so this is a win for Detroit.

I’d say safety was a big need for the Bears, but every defensive position is a big need for the Bears. Coby Bryant will fill one of the two holes Chicago had at safety.
Coby Bryant has been a solid, but unspectacular safety for the Seahawks. He doesn’t have any weaknesses, so he’ll be a quality starter for Chicago. This contract is fair, so the Bears deserve a grade in the B+ range.

The Redskins already needed a cornerback entering the offseason, and yet the hole got even deeper when Marshon Lattimore announced his retirement. With two cornerbacks needed, the Redskins had a lot of work to do.
Amik Robertson is a decent player, but an odd fit in Washington. Robertson has played well in the slot, but has struggled outside. That doesn’t really work in Washington because it seems like the Redskins have nothing but slot cornerbacks, so I don’t know how all of the pieces are going to fit.

The Buccaneers have made two great signings in the past hour. They obtained a quality receiving threat for Baker Mayfield in Kenneth Gainwell, and now they addressed their defense’s biggest need by signing a talented player.
Alex Anzalone has been a great linebacker for the Lions. He’s 31, so he could regress soon, but he should have one or two strong seasons remaining. He’ll likely replace Lavonte David, whose play fell off a cliff last year. Anzalone will probably be a big upgrade, and yet the Buccaneers signed him to a very reasonable deal.

They won’t even be able to begin the rebuild until next year when they land their quarterback, so why exactly are they signing 37-year-old linebackers to contracts worth more than $10 million per season? We can assume Rachaad White is gone in the wake of this signing. With White projected to leave, the Buccaneers replaced him with Kenneth Gainwell, who will serve the same role as a pass-catching back.
This is a great signing. Gainwell was so effective as a receiver last year that he effectively served as Pittsburgh’s No. 2 wideout late in the season. He’ll be a very reliable weapon for Baker Mayfield at a very reasonable price.

Jets sign DE Joseph Ossai (3 years, $36 million): C+ Grade
The Jets will be able to obtain a great edge rusher with the second pick in the 2026 NFL Draft to complement Will McDonald, but they apparently thought they needed to obtain a third pass rusher for when they go up against Josh Allen and Drake Maye. This would make sense if they had a team capable of competing with those organizations.
I’m surprised to see Joseph Ossai get so much money. Ossai led the Bengals in quarterback pressures last year, but that’s sort of like saying the 350-pound person is the most attractive individual in a room packed with 400-pound people. This is an overpay, but not an egregious one.

Neville Gallimore can get a bit of pressure on the quarterback from the interior, so it’s no surprise that Gallimore interested the Bears, who couldn’t get to the quarterback at all last year. I’d say $12 million for two years is a fair price for Gallimore.

Giants sign TE Isaiah Likely (3 years, $40 million): MILLEN Grade
Ladies and gentlemen, our first Millen grade of free agency.
When I first saw this signing, I said, “$40 million? You’ve gotta be kidding me.” I can’t believe Isaiah Likely signed for this much money. He’s had some great games in his young career, but he’s also done a whole lot of nothing as well. The fact that he couldn’t be a consistent producer means that he’s not an elite tight end, and any time a team spends big bucks on a non-elite tight end, they always regret it. Always.
Besides, this wasn’t even a need. Theo Johnson is a quality tight end with lots of promise. There was no reason to block his production like this with a mega overpay.

John Simpson was awesome for the Jets in 2024. He regressed in 2025, but the entire Jets team was a mess, so can you really blame him? Simpson was part of the Ravens in 2023, so I like that there won’t be too much of a transition to reunite with his old unit.

This signing can’t have surprised anyone. The Dolphins hired a former Packer coach to be their new head coach and a former Packer front office person to be their new general manager, so they obviously signed a former Packer quarterback to be their new franchise signal-caller.
Malik Willis has been awesome in relief of “No Cookie” Jordan Love over the past couple of years, so he deserved another chance to start in the NFL. It’s fair to be skeptical because Willis has had six starts, but he’s been better than Love in his relief appearances. Even if he fails, the Dolphins didn’t exactly spend a huge sum on him. This is a great deal for Miami.

The sound you hear is the hearts of Eagles fans being broken, as Jaelan Phillips, who was acquired via the Dolphins at the trade deadline last season, signed with the Panthers.
This is a huge signing for the Panthers. Phillips is an extremely talented, young edge rusher who will transform Carolina’s usually pedestrian defense into one that will be able to generate consistent quarterback pressure. I imagine there might be some sticker shock to seeing the terms of this deal, but Phillips can do for the Panthers what Milton Williams did for the Patriots last year, albeit at a different position. This signing says that the Panthers are here to contend in the NFC South with the Saints and Falcons seemingly improving.

Kenneth Walker made a lot of money in the Super Bowl because there was no way he was getting this contract prior to it. We know this because Walker wasn’t even handling the majority of the workload in Seattle, as Zach Charbonnet was given the important carries, namely those inside the 20.
This is an insane amount of money for any non-elite running back, especially a committee back. The Seahawks didn’t think Walker could shoulder a big workload for a long period of time, so I don’t understand why the Chiefs think he can. I understand that Kansas City was desperate to upgrade its running game, but is Walker even going to have the blocking to be successful?

The Patriots’ schedule is much tougher this upcoming year than it was in 2025, so they needed to continue to bolster their roster. Putting as much pressure on Josh Allen will be vital, so Jones and his seven sacks from 2025 will be quite welcome in New England.

Our first signing of the tampering period was the Colts retaining Alec Pierce to an absurd deal. A year ago, I never would have imagined that Alec Pierce would be getting $114 million because he was just an inconsistent deep threat, yet here we are.
Pierce had his best season at the right time, hence the mega contract. However, Pierce’s big year included just two 100-yard games, so it’s very fair to be skeptical about this deal, which the Colts could easily regret down the road.

Texans re-sign G Ed Ingram (3 years, $37.5 million): B+ Grade
I imagine Minnesota fans believe this is the worst contract of all time. Ed Ingram was a second-round pick of the Vikings in 2022, but never lived up to his potential. He started with the Vikings, but was eventually benched. Ingram went to Houston last offseason, and he finally emerged with his best year yet.
Ingram was so good last year that he was Houston’s best offensive lineman, somehow. It was important to retain him, especially with continuity being vital for offensive linemen. I would be worried about some regression, so there’s definitely a downside to this signing.

No one would have imagined that a season ago, Montaric Brown would eventually sign a 3-year, $33 million contract. Part of the reason is that no one ever had heard of him. Brown was just a seventh-round pick in 2022 who barely played in his first two seasons. He became a mediocre starter in 2024, but blossomed into a very good corner last year.

The Vikings did not evaluate their quarterback situation well last offseason, and it cost them. We’re seeing a habit of this, as the Vikings weren’t able to appropriately determine the value of their own players once again.
Eric Wilson is a strong run defender, but he’s a big liability in coverage. He’s a nice fit for Brian Flores’ defense, but giving him this sort of money certainly constitutes as an overpay. It’s not an egregious one, and it won’t hurt like the quarterback decision, but it’s still a poor contract.

Chargers sign FB Alec Ingold (2 years, $7.5 million): B+ Grade
If we were doing SAT analogies, Adam Trautman is to Sean Payton, as Alec Ingold is to Mike McDaniel. The former Dolphins coach loves Ingold, making this the most predictable signing of all time. In one game two years ago, McDaniel gave Ingold, a simple fullback, more targets than Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle combined.
Despite the odd play-calling, Ingold is actually useful in an offense because he can block well. A contract worth less than $4 million per season is very reasonable, and I like that Ingold won’t have to learn a new offense.

I saw one writer opine in the wake of this signing: “Sean Payton loves Adam Trautman.” That’s an understatement. I think if Trautman asked for Payton’s daughter’s hand in marriage, Payton would say yes without a second thought. Actually, I think Payton would say yes to Trautman asking to marry him.
Trautman is just a blocking tight end, so it’s odd to see this sort of deal. Sure, he’s a pretty great blocking tight end, but there are so many blocking tight ends, one could say that they grow on trees. In fact, a few are coming into bloom in my backyard as you are reading this.
In all seriousness, I like Trautman as a player, but this is too much money for the role he plays on the team.

Broncos re-signed LB Justin Strnad (3 years, $13 million): A Grade
We saw one overpay today, but the Broncos did not make the same error. They managed to re-sign a player of theirs at a very reasonable price.
Justin Strnad saw action last year when Dre Greenlaw was injured. He filled in well, but when Greenlaw returned, he went back to the bench. Strnad is fine enough to start, and yet the Broncos are getting him at a very cheap deal.

Packers re-sign G/C Sean Rhyan (3 years, $33 million): C Grade
We’re going to see lots of absurd contracts over the next week, so I don’t want to waste my Millen grades just yet. When I saw this grade, my thoughts immediately raced to Millen consideration, given how surprising it was. However, there are some positives to this signing, so it’s just a run-of-the-mill “C” signing.
The reason this contract is absurd is that Rhyan, simply, isn’t any good. He’s a decent run blocker, but is horrible in pass protection. However, he’s young (25), so there’s room for improvement. Rhyan is also versatile, in that he can play guard and center, so he’s a useful player to have on the team.

NFL Free Agent Signing Grades: March 7 Updates
Chargers re-sign DE Khalil Mack (1 year, $18 million): A Grade
We saw how important Khalil Mack was to the Chargers last year. Mack suffered an injury in September, and the defense took a dive after that. Then, Mack returned after five weeks, and the Chargers’ stop unit was far better from that point onward.
Mack is 35, but he’s still a ferocious pass rusher. Age is an issue, but this 1-year contract mitigates that. If Mack regresses, the Chargers won’t be punished for the long haul. This mitigated downside makes this a great re-signing.

Ravens re-sign QB Tyler Huntley (2 years, $11 million): B Grade
This signing isn’t nearly as exciting as the Maxx Crosby trade, but it’s still an important one for the Ravens because Tyler Huntley has been called to duty multiple times over the years in the event of a Lamar Jackson injury. We’ve seen that having a viable backup quarterback is important, and Huntley has proven himself to be capable in that role.
A salary of about $5 million or so is the going rate for a decent backup quarterback, so these terms are appropriate for Huntley.

Eagles extend NT Jordan Davis (3 years, $78 million): B Grade
It’s hardly a surprise that Jordan Davis received a contract like this. Davis has been a dominant nose tackle since entering the NFL out of Georgia. He’s a monstrous run stuffer who can generate ample pressure on opposing quarterbacks. It would be wrong to say that he’s not worth this sort of a contract.
So, why just the “B” grade? Well, I’m always wary of very heavy defensive tackles getting massive contract. It doesn’t always happen, but they tend to get fat and lazy, and once an already-heavy human being gains even more weight, it’s very difficult for them to get back in shape. Still, what were the Eagles going to do, allow Davis to walk soon? I can’t grade this signing poorly.

Bills re-sign C Connor McGovern (4 years, $52 million): B Grade
The Bills finally landed a top receiver for Josh Allen (go here for the D.J. Moore NFL Trade Grades), but if they lost two of their key offensive linemen free agents, then they’d just be back to square zero, as a Hall of Fame running back once said.
Connor McGovern was one of the free agent offensive linemen the Bills needed to re-sign. McGovern has been a rock-solid center for the Bills for the past few years, so losing such a player at an important position would have hurt. This seems like a bit more than I would have paid for McGovern, but continuity on the offensive line is very important, and the NFL salary cap is fake anyway.

NFL Free Agent Signing Grades: March 6 Updates
Rams re-sign S Kam Curl (3 years, $36 million): B Grade
The Rams just made a big trade to acquire their new top cornerback, Trent McDuffie. It wouldn’t make much sense if they would allow their top safety, Kam Curl, to depart. So, it’s no surprise that they re-signed Curl to a $36 million contract.
Curl is a talented safety who thrives in run support and does well in coverage. Retaining him is a good thing, but I’m not a fan of the price. Curl is a talented safety, but given the lack of positional value, as well as all the skilled safeties entering the league via the 2026 NFL Draft, safeties will be much cheaper this offseason (or at least they should be.)

Chargers sign C Tyler Biadasz (3 years, $30 million): B+ Grade
There was speculation that the Chargers were going to sign Tyler Linderbaum in free agency. They decided that they didn’t want to risk Linderbaum not being available for them, so they’ve opted to sign Tyler Biadasz instead.
I like this signing quite a bit. The Chargers had severe offensive line issues last season, and not just as a result of their two tackles being injured. Center was a big issue for them, so Biadasz is a big upgrade. Biadasz is not the amazing center Linderbaum is, but he’s a solid player.
This seems like a bit of an overpay, considering that the Redskins just cut him, but I like that this gives the Chargers a better chance of finally not failing in the playoffs.

NFL Free Agent Signing Grades: Feb. 23 Updates
Cowboys re-sign RB Javonte Williams (3 years, $24 million): D Grade
Jerry Jones has lost his marbles. He’s not willing to pay elite players at highly important positions like Micah Parsons and George Pickens, yet he’s perfectly comfortable shelling out plenty of cash for running backs with an injury history. We can now see why this once-proud franchise hasn’t had much success in recent years.
This is an embarrassing move. Javonte Williams played very well last year, but there are two issues with this re-signing. The first is that, as mentioned, Williams has an injury history that involves a devastating torn ACL. Second, running back is a very replaceable position. The Cowboys probably would have been able to find someone who could offer the same production for less than half the cost.

NFL Free Agent Signing Grades: Jan. 31 Updates
Saints re-sign S Julian Blackmon (1 year, $3.1 million): A+ Grade
Julian Blackmon seemed like a great signing by the Saints last offseason. He was known as a strong player in coverage and was supposed to help an ailing New Orleans secondary. He had a great first game, but was then lost for the season with a torn labrum.
Blackmon figures to be 100 percent entering 2026, yet the Saints were able to re-sign him to a 1-year “prove it” deal. This is a terrific bargain worthy of an A+ grade.

NFL Free Agent Signing Grades: Jan. 26 Updates
Chargers re-sign DT Teair Tart (3 years, $37.5 million): B- Grade
Is there a more perfect last name for a defensive tackle than “Tart?” Perhaps Marshmallow. If there’s a defensive tackle named Robert Marshmallow in the NFL Draft, teams need to target him early in the first round.
Tart, true to his name, is a quality run stuffer. He can also get a bit of pressure on the quarterback, though not very much. He’s a decent defensive tackle who can play about 60 percent of the snaps. I like that the Chargers retained him, though $37.5 million over three years seems like a hefty price, especially for a player who has just one year remaining in his 20s. However, I think this signing is fine and shouldn’t be graded poorly because Tart is a quality member of the Chargers’ defensive front.

NFL Free Agent Signing Grades: Jan. 3 Updates
Jaguars re-sign OT/G Cole Van Lanen (3 years, $51 million): A Grade
I’m experiencing a Mandella Effect moment right now because I swear Cole Van Lanen’s name was Cole Van Laren. Either way, Van Lanen/Laren has been an awesome blocker for the Jaguars this year. He has played both guard spots, as well as left tackle, where he’s done his best work. In fact, Van Lanen’s move to left tackle was the start of Jacksonville’s offensive explosion. Jakobi Meyers integration into the offense was also a big factor, but Van Lanen has provided elite blind-side protection for Trevor Lawrence.
With that mind, how can you not love this contract? Van Lanen can play four positions on the offensive line, and he can do that on a very high level. He’s also just 27, so there’s no reason to expect any sort of regression.

Rams re-sign S Quentin Lake (3 years, $42 million): B Grade
At first glance, this signing doesn’t seem too amazing. Quentin Lake is a talented safety, and at just 27 years old, he has a bright future ahead of him. If safeties were valued highly, Lake would deserve this sort of money. Safety, however, is not a premium position. There’s a reason safeties fall in the draft each year.
However, the Rams have an owner who is willing to spend lots of money, so the cap is not a real thing for them. Like the Eagles and Saints, the Rams are known to add bogus years to their players’ contracts to circumvent the cap. Given that the Rams are known to do that, this signing can be graded relatively favorably.
